Stamina Mode or MMS issues?? Read here! - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

All,
**ONLY DO THE FOLLOWING IF YOU'RE HAVING THE LISTED ISSUES AND NOTHING ELSE IS WORKING**
I use Google Messenger since the Z3's stock messenger app clearly CANNOT handle MMS properly. This is what worked for me....................
Before setting up your Z3 to be able to handle MMS messages correctly, as well as enabling Smart Call Handling to ACTUALLY work, you must do the following which will do both a factory reset AND re-update your phone. My software must’ve been corrupted at some point because after doing this, my phone worked much better. The battery life had gotten really bad (would get really hot and battery would drain fast), but now it’s back to incredible again. My phone works 100% for the first time ever!!
** Sony PC Companion Instructions:
We have an extended guide that should help you fix the issue on your phone, please follow the instructions carefully:
Visit this link:
http://www.sonymobile.com/us/tools/pc-companion/
Click on Download PC Companion
Run the software and install it
Turn the phone off and disconnect it from the computer
1. No matter what the program says do not connect the phone until you complete step 9
2. In the welcome screen you will see the different modules available for you including the "Support Zone" option. Click on "Start" below it.
3. On the next page Click on "Start" under "Phone Software Update"
At this point if you get an error stating that "Unable to install update components" or "Server is busy" , then please proceed to step 12
4. The program will say that there is no phone connected. Click on the option below that reads: "Repair my phone" the program will issue you a warning about the content that you will lose during the update
5. Choose the option to continue.
6. The program will issue a final message warning you of possible data lost during the update. Click on the checkmark and then on "Next".
7. After that, the program will download the necessary information (5 to 6 minutes) and it will present you with a list of phones.
8. Choose your phones model from the list then click on "Next" then you will see a new section telling you how to connect the phone. (don't connect it yet) (YOU CAN FIND YOUR PHONE’S MODEL # BY DOING THIS: SETTINGS-->ABOUT PHONE-->MODEL NUMBER)
At this point the phone must be off and disconnected from the PC.
9. Connect the cable to the PC not to the phone, then while pressing and holding the indicated button (in the steps on screen an specific button will be shown for you to press on the phone) connect the cable to the phone and keep holding the indicated button until the program says "the update of your phone has started..." (in some cases a message of "Installing drivers" will appear before the message of "the update of your phone has started..." is shown.)
10. If you failed to follow the steps correctly the phone will turn on and it will request that you "Proceed with the following steps, slide down the notification bar", If this happens disconnect the phone from the cable, turn it off and repeat from step 9).
11. If the phone is connected properly, PC Companion will proceed with the update ( It will tell you to let go of the back key) then wait for the update to finish and follow instructions on screen to disconnect the unit.
Dear Customer,
12. If "Unable to install update components"
1. Close PC Companion
2. Install Java from: http://www.java.com
3. Start PC Companion again and try to do the software unlock process once more.
Note: If you wish only to update the unit wait for the program to open and then select the quick link on the upper left corner that says "Update Phone/Tablet" and follow the instructions to perform the update. (the PC may request for the phone to be placed in Mass Storage mode. Do this by going into Settings>Xperia>Connectivity>USB connection mode)
Now that you have completed the PC Companion part, follow these instructions carefully to restore MMS and Smart Call Handling: (NOTE: Although Lollipop has fixed the MMS issues with the Z3, I highly recommend Google Messenger over Stock. I don't know for sure if Lollipop has corrected the Stamina Mode issues though as of yet.)
1) Add a NEW APN (Settings-->More-->Mobile networks-->Access Point Names ((APN))-->push the + sign button) using these settings (and make sure to select it after creating and saving it): (UPDATE: Don't do this if using Google Messenger ((preferred)) while on Lollipop. )
Name: T-Mobile Data 2
APN: fast.t-mobile.com
Proxy: not set
Port: not set
Username: not set
Password: not set
Server: not set
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS proxy: not set
MMS port: not set
MMS protocol: WAP 2.0 <---(DOES NOT APPLY TO THE Z3, BUT OTHER PHONE USERS MAY WANNA TRY IT)
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
Auth Type: not set
APN type: default,mms,supl,admin,hipri
APN proto: IPv4/IPv6
APN roaming proto: IPv4/IPv6
APN enable/disable: enable
Bearer: unspecified
2) DISABLE Stock Messenger app.
3) Replace it with Google Messenger. It works just fine with VoLTE enabled too, so enable VoLTE as well. Very important: After installing GM, read 4.1 below and follow ALL of it.
4) (Update: I NO LONGER use Stamina Mode. Too many issues, too buggy. Only way to resolve them usually ends up involving a factory reset (see above). However, I've found an app that works even better than Stamina Mode IMO. Instead of waiting 15 minutes after you turn your screen off to kick in like SM does, this app starts RIGHT away. And unlike SM, it does NOT cause any issues or even delays with SMS & especially MMS messages! It simply hibernates your apps when the screen is off, which means it doesn't let them continually do background stuff, but it DOES still allow calls, IMs, e-mails, and texts to come through with no problem. The app is called 360 Hibernation Master. It's free to download, but I highly advise getting the full paid version (currently $1.95) to get the most out of it. I leave my phone uncharged at night with this app, and when I wake up, I still have EXACTLY the same (give or take 1%) battery percentage in the morning!! So disable SM, and get this app now!! Highly recommended!!!)
You can leave STAMINA mode on (under Settings-->Power management), however...... only enable the "Extended Standby" option and of course Activation should be at 100%/Always on. Also make sure “Queue background data” is enabled too. You must also have whitelisted 2 specific apps in STAMINA under the "Apps active in standby" list: The text msg app you're using (i.e. Textra, Google Messenger, etc…. the stock app will NOT be listed though) and I would also whitelist one under "All others" entitled "Phone/Messaging Storage". Keep the other stuff disabled in here. With regards to STAMINA mode:
4.1) OPTIONAL: IF AT ANY POINT STAMINA MODE IS NOT WORKING (i.e., WITH IT ON AT 100% POWER, IT SAYS ON STAMINA MODE SETTINGS PAGE THAT YOU HAVE ANYTHING LESS THAN 5 DAYS AND 3-4 HOURS FOR ESTIMATED BATTERY TIME), THEN FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS: Turn off STAMINA mode. Go into Settings, Apps, All, Extended Standby Mode Controller (now called Stamina Mode), Clear Data. Then go to your text app's (Google Messenger, Textra, Stock, etc….do it for all texting apps you have) "App info" page (on same Apps "All" screen) and clear ONLY the cache, then close out the app itself (3D button to the right of the virtual Home button, swipe the text app(s) off the screen). Restart phone (NOT factory reset). When you come back, follow what I said above in #4, including turning STAMINA mode back on. (Don't worry if Projected Battery Life times seem "off" down the line. This is normal. Sony needs to fix it, but it doesn't mean Stamina Mode's not working. Stamina Mode kicks in after the screen's been off and phone left uncharged for 15+ minutes. If after a few hours like this or even overnight your phone's battery percentage has dropped less than 5%, Stamina Mode IS working. If over like 5%, then it probably isn't and you need to follow what I am saying here in this post.)
5) Put “Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep” to "Only when plugged in" (Settings--> Wi-Fi--> Advanced). Also, make sure everything else on that page is unchecked/disabled.
6) OPTIONAL: IF HAVING ISSUES RECEIVING TEXTS FROM IPHONE USERS WHO HAVE iMessage ENABLED ON THEIR IPHONE, THEN FOLLOW THIS: And lastly, there’s the “iMessage” issue ppl like myself are/were having (also those with LG G2 I’ve heard have this issue too) where when someone with an iPhone sends you an MMS pic text msg while their iMessage option is on, you don’t get the text…….. try this (a T-Mobile store rep told me this and it worked!): send YOURSELF an MMS photo text msg but include at least one other phone # as well too. If you’re using Textra or anything besides just the stock text app, then do this for EACH app. If that is the case, then do it via stock app first then Textra/Google Messenger (easier this way). If you receive the pic successfully, then ask anyone you know with an iPhone to send you an MMS message (preferably having a 3rd phone # in on it too, but not sure if you need to) with iMessage ON. If you receive it, then it worked. If not, try this again.
What I just said here MAY resolve any lingering MMS issues, and also resolve any issues regarding STAMINA mode not kicking in too.
If you have any questions, let me know.
P.S. This ALSO fixed my Smart Call Handling issue where it wasn't working, but now is.
P.P.S. One thing people................. in recent weeks, I've had two instances (post-Lollipop) where after turning on my screen while phone was in Stamina Mode (Wi-Fi off), the "4G LTE" icon at top would not appear, even after like a minute of waiting. I'm guessing this is some kind of minor bug with Stamina Mode. I just did a quick reset of my phone, and it was fine after that. So I guess Stamina Mode isn't perfect, yet, but this is so minor to me that I'm not gonna worry about it. But now I guess Sony has two bugs to fix. lol (UPDATE: THIS APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN FIXED.)
RockStar2005

I didn't have any MMS issues on my Z3C but #5 was a big help for my stamina mode! Thank you!

Puff,
No problem!! Just glad you got it fixed up. Now you can REALLY enjoy your phone, and not have to worry so much about keeping it charged. lol

Text msg issue resurfacing?
Just recently, for no good reason, I've discovered that I don't get certain/random text messages until I reset my phone. I never had this issue before, but it's happened now twice in the last week. So I'm trying out the alternate APN (step 1 from my main post, second half) and am hoping that will do the trick. I thought it was a network thing, but I don't think so now that it's happened twice. If this doesn't fix it, then I'll have to try disabling VoLTE again, but I'm hoping since the Lollipop update included fixes for VoLTE that I won't have to do that too. We'll see.
I had a similar issue pre-Lollipop, but that was for only MMS (data and/or group) messages, not SMS (regular) messages. This time around it's just SMS. Weird.
I'll post updates here in the coming weeks after I determine whether or not the alternate APN fixed it like it did pre-Lollipop.
RockStar2005

I just started having MMS over Wifi issues over the past couple days. It had been working great up until then, on lollipop using the stock messaging app and stock APN settings. Now it's no longer working without having a data connection.

volkey,
I'm sorry to hear that. The stock texting app sux on most phones, and the Z3 is no exception.
See the second half of my main post (after the Sony PC Companion part). Read it carefully, esp the parts regarding WiFi and Textra/MMS. It should fix it.

Can anyone help. i rebooted my whole phone to fix my battery and stamina mode and it worked fine for the day,, but come the end of the day around 4pm my phone was on 67% and said i still had like 11 hours left without stamina mode, then all of a sudden it says i will only have 4 hours left. and stamina mode enabled would give me 11. please help

Brad,
You may need to do a factory reset using Sony PC Companion to fix it. I had a similar issue and this fixed it.
Read my original post above, carefully. Almost 100% chance if you follow it carefully it will resolve your issue. You can skip the MMS parts in the second half, but I'd at least skim them so you know what's up. You may even wanna try them out if you have time.
Let us know what happens, and if you have any other questions.

Hey man, thanks for getting back to me. i did a factory reset the first time and it solved it, then disaster hit lol, i followed the stamina mode (5.1) all is good now, but i think if it happens again i'll have to keep doing that hole Clear cache Stamina mode malarki

Brad,
Ok. But honestly, if it happens again, for me, that wasn't enough. Clearing the cache for Stamina Mode can work, but if it persists, the only fix for me was the factory reset via Sony PC Companion. I also use Sony PC Companion for big updates like Lollipop, but don't think the little ones need it (though you can for those too).
I also recommend removing Stamina Mode from your Navigation Pane to avoid accidental disabling. It's my theory that enabling/disabling Stamina Mode too often is what messes it up in the first place, though I can't exactly prove it.
The way I knew that Stamina Mode was shot was that the battery seemed to drain really fast, even with Stamina Mode on. My way of testing it is to leave the screen off for a few hours or so (or even just overnight) and then checking it later. If it has gone done more than 2-3%, then it's not working, and you WILL need to do the Sony PC Companion factory reset. Honestly, I don't even charge my phone overnight anymore. lol I go to bed with it at 100% or whatever and then the next morning (about 6-7 hours later) if it was at 100% at night, in morning it's never any lower than 98%. Sometimes it's still at 100%, but not often. The Z3 has the best smartphone battery available right now, hands down. (And they make the same camera sensors used in the iPhone and Galaxy phones. Fact.)
Stamina Mode takes 15 min to kick in after screen is turned off, then after that, it cuts WiFi and Data, which are big power consumers. I recommend whitelisting certain apps like third party texting apps like Textra to ensure the messages (SMS & MMS) come through even when Stamina is running. (Other smartphones that have Power Saver don't have whitelisting that I know of....... so another bonus of owning a Z phone.)

It's just a bug in your battery stats - stamina mode is still working properly. It happens to all of us.

Oh. I thought it was actual. Yeah Brad, I didn't realize what you were saying. If that's the only issue, and you're not noticing ACTUAL battery drain, then just ignore it and you're fine. Sorry. It's a bug as discussed earlier in this thread that Sony needs to fix, but it has no ACTUAL impact on battery life.
RockStar2005

Well, my Stamina Mode "fix" only lasted about a week. I recently started noticing the phone battery levels dropping even while it was "asleep". The wifi turned off as it should, but the battery percentage refused to hold steady. I finally gave in and cleared the data/cache for Stamina Mode and rebooted the phone (not factory reset). Looks like I'll have to do this once a week for the lifetime of the phone, or just bite the bullet and do a fresh install as RockStar suggested.

Puff,
That sux. I think you're better off "biting the bullet", but if you wanna deal with it on a weekly basis, be my guest. I went through the same thing and the short term hassle of factory resetting it to me completely outdoes having it be a continuous issue.
Good luck!
RockStar2005

Puff Daddy and all,
See my updated Original Post (OP) with regards to Google Messenger (over Stock and Textra). (Note the parts in bold.)
NOW we can have VoLTE AND a text messaging app that works well with it too! :good:
Post any questions you might have.

[Q] Turning off cellular modem without turning off WiFi

Hi all!
I just recently upgraded from a Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0" to a Moto G. I sold my SGP and accessories for almost what I paid for my Moto G, which I considered a pretty good deal. I currently have no need for a cell phone, however, and merely use the Moto G as I did the SGP. That means connecting with WiFi only and using it mostly as a media and navigational device (with pre-downloaded maps and GPS enabled).
In an attempt to conserve as much of the (already amazing) battery life as possible, I've set location to Battery Saver and disabled "Data enabled" and "Data roaming" under Settings>Wireless & networks>Mobile network settings. I've also set "Battery Saver" under Settings>Battery to "On". Despite this "Cell standby" under Settings>Battery still consumes an average 20% of a full charge of my battery. Part of this could be that as I am in a remote location, with only very weak cell signals available, the device is constantly searching for signal despite the fact that I do not even have a SIM card installed.
Is there any possible manner in which I could switch off the cellular modem in the phone without switching off WiFi? I can set the device to "Airplane Mode" but that also turns off WiFi, which I prefer to leave on during the day and only switch off at night. I am very new to Android 4.x, so do not yet know all the ins and outs of the Settings menu, and as such may be missing something. Or there might just not be the option. Either way, is what I am wanting to do possible?
You can turn WiFi back on (long press it in the quick settings tile) after enabling Airplane Mode. There may be an app or widget to do this more seamlessly, though.
Turn OFF cellular radio.
I can't wait for my Moto-G to arrive, so I am winging it here..
You can try this: *#*#4636#*#*, and you will enter the TEST mode.
Select Phone information, and scroll down to where you see the SMSC dialog box, directly above this, you will see another greyed out box with the wording: Turn off radio. Select that, and the radio will be disabled, but will restart on a reboot, but there is a way to shut off the radio completely as well, but this should help for now.
You can also use this: ##7764726(program) and then tap DIAL to access the SPC password menu, where you enter SIX ZEROES, and tap 'verify' to enter the programming menu.
The two you will be more interested in, are the first and third selections, User activation and Extended NAM
You can wipe all the data if you wish (but write that information on paper so you will know its location if you decide to actually use that device in the future!
Scroll down to Extended NAM and write that information down, first to last, in proper order as before.
If you wish to completely disable ALL outbound dialing, you should delete the emergency number listings as well.
To upgrade your overload class, change that number to a '1', so some schmuck can't boot your call in favor of theirs.
Your MIN and MDN should be erased, as this prevents the phone from placing any calls, even 911 calls if you erased those numbers.
You can erase everything, from the SID to the MCC (Mobile Country Code), to anything the phone uses to access the network.
Just write everything down in proper order so you have a point of reference when you forget what you did.
Once you finish your task, reboot the device. You may need to once again, shut off the radio using the *#*4636#*# operation, but each device is unique here, you may not need to do this.
You can then try the above mentioned shut down procedure again, and disable the radio completely.
WiFi should still be operational
Thank you both very much for your replies! tma200's method works quite well for me, being easy to get to (definitely seamless compared to doing anything in Gingerbread!) and simple to remember. Thank you for your reply, AECRADIO, I'll keep it in mind if I ever need to do some more advanced radio management on my device!

[Q] Wi-Fi won't stay off

I am quite given up with this issue in my phone; my Wi-Fi connection won't stay off. I want to manually activate/deactivate it, but it seems to have a life of its own.
This is apparently a very recurrent issue among Android phones, but the fix that applies to most doesn't apply to my phone. Most phones come with a Smart Wi-Fi, or in Xperia L's case, Location-based Wi-Fi, which you can disable and hopefully never have Wi-Fi respawn against command again.
In other phones you just have to disable notifications of present Wi-Fi networks, and the Wi-Fi can sleep tight until awoken.
However, I have disabled both modes, and my Wi-Fi still goes back on, no matter what. Can somebody shed some light?

I was looking for a fix rather than a workaround, but I will follow up on that Battery Doctor app, it may well relieve my headaches with this meanwhile.
However, how can I get some kind of debug log about the Wi-Fi activity (like events that trigger it on)?
I found a way to access debugging messages and these 3 messages appear on separate occasions but repeatedly:
Code:
Start proc com.sonyericsson.android.locationbasedwifi:service for broadcast com.sonyericsson.android.locationbasedwifi/.LbwBroadcastReceiver
Code:
Process com.sonyericsson.android.locationbasedwifi:service has died
Code:
D/WifiService( 776): setWifiEnabled: true pid=991, uid=10133
These are the only messages with relevant information about the wifi business. And 2 of these 3 seem to mention the "Location Based WiFi" service, which needless to say, was set to OFF in the Power Management Settings. However, this process has been rendered quite rebelious.
So, what I am trying now is to disable the "Location Based WiFi" built-in app from the Apps Settings (after having forcefully stopped it, of course) and waiting on to see if this application is the culprit.
Did you tried to disable (in Settings/Applications) wifi display mirroring and throw settings?
I have kicked off SomcWifiDisplay.apk and problem has gone. Of course my phone is rooted, if yours is not try to disable application in apps list.

Hmm, my phone is not rooted so that last suggestion is not an option, however I have searched for the mirroring and throw settings in the Apps settings and have only found "Screen mirroring", which I disabled as an application.
The problem seems to have become a lot less present. Yesterday I went almost through the whole day without it occurring once, but just as I plugged in the phone to charge it, the Wi-Fi turned on.
I have posted a similar thread to Sony's own forum, and they're telling me to repair my phone software with the PC Companion. I'm going to see how that goes and I'll report back to the community.

Tried that with repair already and problem in original untouched firmware disappeared for ... 2 days
Try to clear data of Smart connect, looks like misbehaving of Smart Connect (or at least this is less hurting decision).

Up to now I've had the problem virtually disappear; I had disabled the applications Location Based Wi-Fi and Screen Mirroring. Since I did it, my Wi-Fi only turned on once against my will when I connected my phone to the charger *—I didn't sweat it.
I am going to try your solution, and to be honest I'm quite offput by Sony's solution suggestion; I don't even use Windows/Mac plus I'd have to install the PC Companion.
Data cleared. Let's wait and see. :cyclops:

I am still hoping that your problem has gone. I do not have any more aces in my pockets beyond this. All my suggestions were based on my previous experiments.
Just clearing the Smart Connect's application data did not work for me. I enabled all Sony applications previously disabled and cleared the data of said application, but the problem returned. I have gone back to my workaround of disabling Location Based WiFi, Screen Mirroring and I have also disabled Smart Connect because these autoconnections have been all but smart.

Very Slow/Inconsistent Notifications

Hi, so the simplest way of stating my problem is when my device is either unlocked (AKA browsing apps and whatnot with the screen on), or locked (sleeping), notifications are slow to arrive. Right now I've been testing with Skype, and Gmail, both of which are inconsistent. My OPO does not currently have a SIM card (haven't setup the plan yet), and I've tried with both LTE and Radio off (using *#*#4636#*#* on the phone info page)
Info about my OPO/Setup:
Flashed CyanogenMod 12.1 as stated in the Sultan thread before flashing Sultanxda Rom
Using Sultanxda Unofficial CyanogenMod 12.1 Sep 14, 2015 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/one...m-kernel-unofficial-cyanogenmod-12-1-t3120259)
Using AK v.020 CAF Kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/orig-development/kernel-ak-t3189886)
Using StyloKing v1 Synapse profile for CAF (http://forum.xda-developers.com/one...ad-oneplus-t3163211/post62600798#post62600798)
Using build.prop mods (http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/build-prop-tweaks-device-t3168207)
Using TK Gapps Pico (http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/tk-gapps-t3116347)
Using Oxygen OS Modem ONLY (http://forum.xda-developers.com/one...dio-updated-modem-radio-files-oxygen-t3072516)
Using Xposed for Lolipop (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811)
Using Greenify and Amplify with settings from both of these threads (http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/guide-0-0-hour-idle-battery-drain-stock-t2973588 & http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/guide-extreme-battery-life-t3095884)
My OPO does not currently have a SIM card (haven't setup the plan yet)
Things I've tried:
With both LTE and Radio off (using *#*#4636#*#* on the phone info page)
Older Skype versions
Push Notification Fixer (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.andqlimax.pushfixer&hl=en)
Disabling Amplify by disabling the module in Xposed, and rebooting
Double checked that Greenify isn't touching Skype or anything related
I also have a Samsung Galaxy S3 that is using the stock ROM (Android 4.1.2) with root permission and a custom recovery. That is the device I've been using to test with. If I send a Skype or Gmail message from my OPO to the Galaxy, it takes 2-3 seconds EVERY TIME consistently.
If I send a Skype or Gmail message from the Galaxy to the OPO, sometimes I'll get the message within 3-5 seconds, other times it takes 1 minute+ and even a few messages don't arrive until I unlock the device and open Skype or Gmail.
When I leave Skype open, and lock my OPO, it seems to get the messages very quickly almost every time.
Also, it appears that when my phone sleeps for a certain period of time, seems inconsistent, the WiFi will disconnect - and I DO have keep WiFi on while phone is sleeping.
I've run out of ideas short of trying a full wipe and different rom/kernel/who knows what at this point...=\
Any/all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Edit/Update: Found this post (http://forum.cyanogenmod.org/topic/107023-cm12121-wifi-connectivity-issuesdrops-workaround-included/) on another forum, and that seems to have fixed it for me. Doing further testing, but so far positive results.
The delayed response is most probablye due to the Greenify/Amplify tweaks that you've made. Remove everything related to Gmail, Skype, Google Play Services from Greenify & Amplify and then test. Add back the tweaks one by one and find the culprit.
I've already tried that. Fully disabling Amplify, and double checking that I've touched nothing close to Skype or Gmail or Google Services in Greenify's settings.
As I put in the edit in my first post, I found out going to /system/etc/wifi/WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini and changing the line
Code:
McastBcastFilter=3
to
Code:
McastBcastFilter=0
appears to have solved the issue for me.
But when I did that, I also noticed something else, and I wish I hadn't unplugged my device (AKA wiping battery data so I could show a clear screenshot of what I mean), because I saw when I was looking at the battery usage chart, all day long while I had McastBcastFilter=3, my WiFi signal was turning on and off CONSTANTLY throughout the day, and sometimes for decently long periods. Now that I've changed McastBcastFilter=0, my WiFi signal shows that it's on 24/7 in my battery screen.
I'm worried that this is going to cost me a fair bit more battery, but at the same time I need my notifications.
I found another setting in that file with this comment:
Code:
# Enable suspend or not
# 1: Enable standby, 2: Enable Deep sleep, 3: Enable Mcast/Bcast Filter
gEnableSuspend=3
Before I made any changes to this file, it was set to 3, which makes sense with the McastBcastFilter changes I made. But attempting to get some more battery life so my WiFi goes into some sort of partial power save mode for battery longevity, I'm going to try my OPO with Enable Deep Sleep on all day. We'll see how the battery fairs and if notifications are still delayed or not.
Edit: I was able to get the data from my secondary battery app so screenshots for all!
This is what my Wifi/Battery was like before I changed McastBcastFilter at all:
Code:
imgur.com/ZXmFYhI
This is after I changed it from 3 to 0:
Code:
imgur.com/H5ZlXc2
And this is what it's been like since I rebooted last night with gEnableSuspend=2 (AKA Deep Sleep):
Code:
imgur.com/2O6GuVE
Obviously when the WiFi is off, I'm not getting my notifications. >=\
(Gave the URLs CODE tags so I could link the images...)
Well so far I haven't seem to have come across any issues with leaving BcastMcast at 0 and using Deep Sleep for WiFi. I'm still getting all my notifications, and as far as I can tell the battery life is give or take about the same. Possibly a little more battery drain than with BcastMcast on, but I haven't done any sleep tests yet, just initial observations with using OPO in a daily setting.

Google Pixel WiFi Problem (Fails to download videos, apps, etc. and goes offline)

Hi,
Wondering if anyone has run into the following issue with their Pixel. My phone is an international model (G-2PW4200) and I bought it exactly a month ago.
The issue is this: I seem to never be able to download any decent size file (e.g. a video on social media sites or apps like Facebook, YouTube, Whatsapp, etc., or to download any app on the Google Play store) via WiFi without the download getting "stuck" half way, sometimes not even at 10%. The download would get stuck indefinitely, and only resume once I disable WiFi and start downloading via LTE. Sometimes it also comes back if I just disable WiFi and enable it again. Another problem I have is that my phone seems to go offline when it's not being used for extended periods of time (that being in the 5-10 minute range given I look at it almost every 10 minutes) despite having WiFi during sleep set to be always on. I can tell this because when I try to log in to something like Whatsapp Web it complains that my phone is offline, and this is a problem that never happened with me with my previous phone in the same setting.
A few points to keep in mind:
1- I have "Keep WiFi on during Sleep" set to "Always"
2- This happens everywhere (at home, work, friends', public WiFi, etc.) so it's not related to just my router's setup, and it happens every single day and almost every single time.
4- System is "up to date" and I have the latest update installed (Android 7.1.1, build NOF26V)
3- I'm still able to browse web pages (via Chrome), and browse apps like Facebook, Whatsapp, etc. without getting interruptions or showing any signs of disconnect. It's only the above two issues that I see when downloading big chunks of data, and for some reason my phone appearing to be offline during sleep when it shouldn't be.
Any idea what may be wrong here and how I can fix this? I really would like to keep this phone, but this is really becoming frustrating.
Thanks.
Have you factory reset?

Yes. And ironically enough I ran into the same problem immediately while restoring my backup as the phone was trying to redownload the previously installed apps. It would get stuck not downloading anything but not complain about a lost connection until I disable WiFi and switch to cellular data.
This reminded me that the first time I ran into the problem was also the very first time I used the phone when also downloading my apps.
contact google and get warranty service
can you test your wifi performance with another device?
and also try some download manager like ADM and check download with it.

Given that this happens everywhere, not just with my home WiFi, I know the issue is specific to my Pixel. Unfortunately no one at work has a Pixel to try it, but all other devices connected to the same WiFi spots are fine.
I was told by someone that disabling LTE and sticking to 3G cellular data will fix my WiFi issues. Will be trying that at work today.

Enable RCS on any carrier!

Someone on Reddit figured out how to enable RCS on any Android phone on any carrier!
https://www.reddit.com/r/UniversalP...a2v8r?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
You'll need an app called Activity Launcher: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.szalkowski.activitylauncher
I suggest you turn off WiFi before setup
Steps:
1.) Enroll in Messages Beta and install
2.) Download Activity Launcher
3.) Clear the data of 'Carrier Services' and force stop 'Android Messages.'
4.) Open Activity Launcher
5.) Tap 'Recent Activities,' and in the menu choose 'All Activities.'
6.) Look for 'Messages'
7.) Tap it, then scroll until you find 'Set RCS Flags'
8.) After pressing it select 'ACS Url"' and in the menu select 'http://rcs-acs-prod-us.sandbox google.com/.'
9.) Select OTP Pattern, and in the menu click, YourlsMessenger\sverification\scode\sis\sG-(\d {6}).
10.) Click Apply
11.) Follow setup in Messages. Will take around three minutes.
Step 9 doesn't save in the OTP area. Not sure if that's important but messages was able to enable the advanced feature for messaging over wifi, read receipts, typing notifications etc. Now if I can just find someone else with the feature to text with lol.
Set it up on my 4 xl, and my girlfriend's 4. Left wifi on the whole time. It took me a couple of tries to get it to work. It was easier on my girlfriend's phone. For me, I had to turn on airplane mode with WiFi on

I set it up on my wife's Note 8 and even though it activated we couldn't see typing notifications for each other and her texts wouldn't come through. Working fine on my phone though.
What is the benefit of rcs over sms?

Text me! I'm dying to try it! Dm for number
Group text?
I'm down. Nobody I know has RCS and I want to see how it works
Worked great! I'll try it tomorrow.
I wonder if it'll show on iMessage when I read things and what not. Guess I'll find out soon
Seems to be activated on my 4xl. Will try my wife's phone and then play around tomorrow.
is RCS supposed to work with other RCS users over-seas?
if so can someone PM me their number and see if it actually works
I can't verify my number. How to fix that
my pixel 3xl is eternal activation
I've tried it with my Coral, not working. I may try it this evening again, as well as on my Taimen, and see if either one works.
From Coral, with Tapatalk
I got mine to work and shows the additional chat features. After enabling, the only way I could get it to work is by going into a specific persons contact and toggling on/off the "only send SMS/mms " option. It then worked for me. It will revert back to standard after a bit but if I toggle that option again RCS comes back.
Don't know if this will help anyone else. Don't k ow how to get it to stick permanently
Anyone notice carrier service using more battery?

Yes. Overnight it drained more than usual. I rebooted and it looks like it settled down. I wonder if there is a way to undo what we did.

Mine also looks like it settled after a restart
I'll see how it looks overnight
Clearing cache and data for messages and carrier service should revert it back
I've done this on several pixels 1,2,3a,4xl, sgs8 and two LG G6s... Working great on all (all at&t)
Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using XDA Labs
I have this working on two devices and after some testing I have to say unfortunately it is not working enough for day to day use. The RCS communication does work between the two devices if you are actively having a conversation but if you set them down and then try to message one the message will say sent but not be received on the other device until you pick up the other device and send a message to the sending device, then the message will come through and RCS will be working. Basically it works but it is not working to push the message through when not active. I re-tested using sms and all was good. Anyone else experience this?
