[Q] Signal drops during calls (Z3 Dual D6633) - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm using a D6633 (23.1.1.E.0.1) with two sim cards (China Mobile GSM and China Unicom LTE). It is the international version (Hong Kong) and runs with the stock ROM (Lollipop 5.0.2). Every time I make or receive a phone call, the call will drop after about eight to ten minutes. Both signal indicators show that there is no signal at all. After a few seconds, the signal level will be normal again and I can restart the phone-call for a few minutes, before the same problem occurs again.
This problem makes this otherwise brilliant phone basically unusable. As there is an ongoing discussion in the Sony support forum, I am sure I'm not the only one suffering under this problem. A fresh install (Lollipop) and switching the sim-cards from one slot to the other didn't make my life any better. The problem continues to occur every single time I make a phone-call which is longer than a few minutes.
I experienced all kinds of problems with my past Xperias (Z, Z1, Z1, Z1, Z2), but this is entirely new to me.
Best,
JK

Any solution? I have same problem when using LTE/WCDMA/GSM mode.

Are you using the phone in China or Hong Kong? Have you got new sim cards from your phone providers?
I've got the D6633 and use it in HK (with HK providers) and have not had any call dropping issues.

I bought the Dual-SIM-version, because I am traveling a lot. The call-drop-issue I always have, no matter in which country I am or which SIM-card I use. The official Sony Supportforum is full of complaints. Apparently it is a problem that came with the Lollipop-Update. It goes without saying that there is no solution offered by the support-staff in the official Sony forum.

Let's hope they correct this problem with the upcoming update.
I have drop calls as well.
If 5.1.1 won't correct the problem I will have to switch phone.

[Q] Telephone from another EU country not working???

Is this some kind of standard now, that the phone I bought in Germany is not working in Slovenia and it is not locked in any way.
This is my third HTC phone with this problem. The GSM network is not found and sometimes it is but the signal is weak. It is like the reception would be weak. So 50% of time I am unaccessable (no networks found) and half time I have one line in the signal strength.
I tried SIM cards from 2 of our operators and same problem :-(
Is there any setting/program I could try, I can not believe the radio part of the phone is country specific.
First phone was HTC ONE X, didn't work, when I bought it in my country it did. I bought now HTC Rhyme Lila for my wife, same problem. I exchanged it, the new one is not from France but from Germany, same problem :-(((
Any ideas please?
I have importet 2~3 phones from spain und I had used it in germany without problems.
Last time i was in the UK i got problems but it was a german sim card in the roaming mode and in that case i had problems too. No signal or if I had signal i could not make a call.
Well but if you want to use it for the rest of life in your country have you think about flashing a rom? A custom or a rom of your country? It could help. But bevor flashing read a lot how to do it. In this forum are alot of tuts.

Z3 Dual D6633 SIM compatibility / issues

Hi, I've got a Z3 dual D6633 which I want to use with an EE SIM in the UK. I've tried a cut down microsim and been into the EE shop and tried one of their nano SIMs but both don't work correctly in the phone.
The cut down SIM makes a service phone.android.com or something like that continually crash and doesn't connect to the network.
The one I tried in the shop just doesn't connect to the network.
This is on 23.0.F.1.74 and .82 I noticed in the release notes for .82a fix for Yoga SIMs in Russia but don't know what the problem there was, but wonder if it is linked. All other UK Sims work including 3, Lyca, giffgaff, Vodafone, virgin just not EE. has anyone got an EE one working or had similar problems?
I did notice that an app/widget I use called phono to show network info and signal strength usually shows the IMEI when no SIM inserted or the MSISDN, however with the non-working EE SIM it just shows 00000 - not sure which field it is getting wrong. Oh and yes the SIMs work fine in all other phones I've tried.
I do need to try more tests on factory reset and removing phono etc but so far it looks to be a firmware incompatibility with EE Sims.
OK, so I did a few more tests and got hold of another nano SIM on EE.
So it looks like the 23.0.F.1.74 firmware does not like EE SIMs and the phone application constantly crashes. On the later .82 firmware it works fine. I was mislead a bit by going into an EE store and trying a SIM - they must have given me an un-provisioned SIM to try. I stupidly assumed they would have actually given me a SIM that worked, doh!
I'm experiencing something similar here. I have the D6633, bought in UK, now I am in Brazil and the phone works great except that it won't connect to the 4G/3G/2G/LTE network. I can make calls, send sms normal. But internet only over wi-fi.
I called my operator, they say the phone is configured correctly, I tried my brother's sim card from another operator and the same happens.
So, the phone is clearly unlocked, if not it wouldn't recognize the sim cards at all. But no connection to the internet...
Any suggestions? I already did four factory resets, I recovered the Rom using sony software...

Hello, I have the exact same problem. How did you get the firmware .82/for what country? Is everything working well with it? Really appreciate your guidance.
I had the same problem with the EE sim card, ended up sending the phone back.

Just a thought, but is it definitely a 6633 and not some other variant which perhaps doesn't work in your country/network?

I purchased my D6633 from Saudi Arabia and the 23.0.F.1.82 update came as an OTA notification about a week ago.
If you look in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/d6633-z3-dual-updated-to-23-0-f-1-82-t2929352/ it mentions that someone thinks the update has only been released for Saudi and Brazil - I assume it is for Europe as well as one of the release notes says a problem with Russian Yota SIMs has been fixed. I think there are also links to the firmware in there although I've not looked that hard as I got the OTA. I guess it might still in my memory - anyone know where Sony stick their OTAs?
Seems to work fine so far - no noticeable difference - well other than EE SIMs now work!

Ah, shame as it looks like the update might have fixed it. I was thinking I might have to go to another handset too (The Samsung G900FD is OK if you can put up with touchwiz and other Samsung "features"!!)

Hmmm, sounds like another issue as with mine the EE SIM caused the phone.apk to constantly crash/restart.
Did the data work OK in the UK?
As you can make calls/SMS I assume you are at least on a 2G network which should still give you (very slooow) data - It does sound more like an APN issue - or something else. I know you said you checked with your operator what their APN settings should be (just my experience with operator customer support lines) - but I would try and have a look yourself - and maybe list your APN settings and operator and someone may spot something.
I have seen a couple of phones / operators where the "APN type" in the APN settings needs specific settings - its down the bottom and often isn't mentioned when people get the settings. For example in my current settings I have "default, hipri, dun, supl" for Virgin mobile in the UK.

It was working fine there. Here It apparently could not download APN settings, so I installed an APN APP and now it works fine!!!

I see. Mine is the d6633 but it is customized for HK. I have not received the OTA upgrade yet. I have checked xperifirm as they may have it but will wait for the OTA upgrade. Sony must be releasing soon.
Thank you for replying! I am using Vodafone in the meantime, but want to go back to my EE plan!

For mine, on my networks here in Australia, I can assign 4G LTE to any sim, however, that makes the other sim 2G only (GSM).
The other option is to have both at 3G (WCDMA/HSPA).
If you assign 4g to sim one that work only for 4g or like other phones "LTE(preference)/WCDMA/GSM"
4g not available automatically search 3G if 3G not available automatically search 2G?
Assume second sim is on 2g

Yes, your 4G sim slot will fall back onto 3G and 2G as per expected for most handsets.

I just got a 6633 through kogan and i am having real trouble getting it to connect to optus network with iinet and truphone simcards. Does anyone know if i need to update any settings or firmware from factory to make it compatible. I can see iinet and truphone lte networks (which i assume is the optus 4g network) when searching manually but the phone wont connect. Sims work in a mates iphone6 without a problem.
Don't suppose anyone knows how to get rid of the #sim card icon on the statusbar?

Have you managed to root it? I rooted the 23.0.1.f.0.96 firmware for my Z3 D6633, but after a while (half a day) it starts to reboot frequently, and Google Play stops working (can browse apps, but not download them, as the download bar never progresses).
Also, my EE sim seems to work, but the phone still shows it as 'Sim 1 0000000' whereas other sims simply appear as sim 1 and sim 2.
I am wondering if I should just downgrade back to 23.0.F.1.74 and move from EE to Vodafone or 3...
Ah, work forced a BlackBerry (yuck!) on me and I've since sold the D6633.

[Q] Help with Dual SIM in UK region

Hello everyone.
So i thought i'd be really smart and pick up a new Xperia Z3 from a foreign website (based in Dubai) as it had the Dual SIM model on offer... Only trouble is this phone seems very 'fussy' with which SIM cards i put in it back in the United Kingdom.
EE - SIMs are rejected outright with a nasty message that doesn't go away til i take it out
3 - SIM is simply not acknowledged at all
O2 - works
Vodafone - Works but gives me no LTE (only 3G and HSDPA)
I would really like to use the phone with either EE or 3 since they offer the best reception / network speed / costs in my area. Any suggestions for me? Should i use a different ROM?
Many thanks!!
Charlie
PS Amazing Battery life on this thing by the way - very happy with it otherwise. Just kinda miss having 4G / fast LTE

Hello Charlie,
Did you get this sorted? I read somewhere that a software update fixed the EE card rejection issue?
I'm looking at getting this phone myself as I use EE but no signal in my work building so I miss calls. However I know O2 works so I was going to get a PAYG O2 SIM and have EE forward to O2 when at work so I can receive calls.
Cheers - Mark

Dropping calls on sim2

Hi everyone,
First post so be gentle
I got my dual sim honor 8 some months ago as I dont want to carry 2 phones around with me.
My personal sim and the phone are with Three UK and my work sim is with EE.
The three sim is in slot 1 and the EE simin slot 2 and I am finding the calls keep dropping for no reason on the EE sim. I can be in an area with full signal but when the call drops I cant dial out or receive calls. The phone goes to dial but just sits with the calling screen and then fails to connect.
After I have moved it works again, its generally happening in the same places too but places that shouldnt be an issue.
Whilst the sim 2 is in this condition I can still call out from sim 1 (Three) and this problem never occurs on sim 1 (Three).
I have tried swapping the sims over but the problem remains with the EE sim. I have tried to swap the 4g priority over but the Three sim is 3g only so wont work as the secondary sim.
I have spoken with my work IT and they have replaced the EE sim but this hasnt fixed it, I have called Three tech support who have reset this and reset that and run diagnostics and say nothing wrong with the handset.
Any ideas or any one else experienced this?
Many thanks
If it's from the EE sim card, then it's from them I believe

Hi,
I have and they advise no fault, they have even replaced the sim card to rule this out.
Just try with a 3rd operator on both SIM slots: that will rule out hardware problems.
As for 3G/4G, operators use different bands, but you shouldn't have any problem.

Samsung S7 Edge AT&T G935A no network problem in Europe

Hello,I am new to this forum and this great platform of knowledge. I start this thread to find a solution to a problem of mine (and maybe some of you out there) about a Samsung S7 Edge AT&T G935A. I brought it from America back to Europe and particularly in Greece and tried it with my local service provider.
It was locked to AT&T as a device so i contacted them and asked for an unlock code which they provided. I restarted the device, put the unlock code and worked for my network.
I then decided to update it from fw G935AUCS2APH1 v6.0.1 to fw G935AUCU4BQF3 v7.0 through G935AUCS4APK1 because OTA updates were no longer an option for me because i was out of US and no longer in AT&T.
Then my problem starts because after the updated fw, now i did not have network connection, i cannot search for networks in network operators nor manual selection of a network primarily because it does not show any and pops up errors in every option i choose in the settings.
I even updated to fw SMG935U4BQH3 v7.0 to try the open csc file for all bands. The problem persists.
It is not a service provider issue because i use 2 different sim cards from different providers and are micro sims as they should. It is not a problem of IMEI with my providers because the do not list IMEI numbers here in any of the service providers.
I did a wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition in my last fw and all the steps to reach here i followed the guides step by step. To upgrade to the U version Odin3_v3.12.7 was popping up an error so i used Odin3_v3.12 Unofficial which was suggested anyways.

Hi,yes i solved the issue after 7 excruciating months of searching for a solution.
The problem was at the screen itself, because Samsung have a fixed chip on the screen for the gsm networks.
So if you have an American version of the device and you put a European screen, the device will function normally except it's function as a damn phone. You have to use an American screen for an American device and vice versa.
I have gone through Samsung support USA, Europe and Greece without no one of them knowing this issue or if they knew, trying to help me out.
Hope this helps.

Yes,i have replaced the whole screen because it was cracked and the "edge" does not help for just glass replacement.
On the cable of the screen there is a part of gsm controller probably and it has to match with the phone. Otherwise it will not work.
