[Q] Any way of removing activation prompt on each reboot if using only for wifi? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I purchased a Boost Mobile Moto G 1st Generation device today and want to use it as a spare wifi android device at home only.
The model I have is the XT1031 Boost Mobile CDMA. I went through a whole bunch of threads here and got my device updated to Stock 4.4.4 Kitkat [Falcon], bootloader unlocked, rooted with Super User, and the latest TWRP [the one for XT1032 worked perfectly fine!) I also found the very long paragraph bootloader unlocked nag screen on startup logo removal zip and that was sweet! Thanks to everyone here (so many of you from all of these topics and work beyond imaginable!) I also went ahead and installed Xposed Framework, Gravitybox, F-Droid + AdAway... will need to fiddle around with XPrivacy a bit more or come back to a really old LBE Master Privacy Guard project that seems to be translated now and working for a lot of devices. Now just waiting for the stable Lollipop image to come out and enjoy the next generation of our OS!
So with that all said (loving the device), on each boot right before "Starting Services", the Activation Screen comes up. It starts to first check for Profile, PRL Updates but fails and gives the error : Airplane Mode.
Anyone know a workaround to get that Activation screen disabled from appearing again (if you're not ever planning to use voice/data but only wifi)? I thought after I put the device on Wifi-Airplane Mode, it would go away, but it always comes up. My only workaround (which really isn't a workaround ) on each time I power back up/reboot the Moto G, that it comes up with that message, I just click "Next" and it will go to the Android Home screen just fine. and connect straight to my wifi network while already in airplane mode and work fine like that .
Anyways, it's a very minor thing, but maybe you all could direct me to a link or reply on what to check out if that's something easy to modify? Please let me know if you need any other information from my device or setup thus far to help you with my question!
edit: Hmm, now the activation notice doesn't appear on reboot but a notification at the top (white triangle) with SIM Card Error comes up. The device will hang with starting services in the center. If I press the power button once and press it again, I can swipe away the notification of the SIM Card Error and it will go to Home and everything works. If I click on the Sim Card Error, it gives me a message saying to either power off or continue, stating the device cannot work without a SIM Card.... (this is all while in WiFi-Airplane Mode). I thought it was an error or issue of Xposed/Gravity Box but uninstalling/reinstalling those didn't make a difference and the SIM Card Error still shows up on reboot. Strange thing, I thought the XT1031 Boost CDMA doesn't have a SIM Card Slot. Anyways, if I disable wifi and disable airplane mode and reboot, the original activation screen comes up again... and I can skip it and then go back to Wifi-Airplane mode... Okay, hopefully that gives some insight and maybe someone will know what I am talking about!

Turn off warning pop ups

Hi All,
Firstly, I love this site have gotten alot of great upgrades from all of you so thank you. Now to the question, I have the HTC Touch Cruise and have been temporarily kicked off the cell network for reasons of a large phone bill. However, trying to turn on my phone has become a massive hassle now. I have two options of turning on my phone now that I have been suspended pending payment:
#1 - I can turn on my phone and enter in my sim card password:
In which case I will constalty get a warning that creates a window each time that says
"WARNING - There is a problem connecting the GPRS service in your registerd home network."
I can not stop this warning it seems, i can click the x but another window with the same warning will open because my sim car is still trying to connect to the network. I will also get a remnet.exe warning as well, but becuase of the previous warning box, (that will not go away no matter how many times you close it) i can not read what the remnet.exe warning says.
It is most importantly to point out, that this constant error, and constantly trying to connect to the network does not allow me to press anything else, it is as if these errors override everything, it is so bad that I can not even turn my phone off, as the error message will pop up in front of the power off option menu.
#2 - or I can turn on my phone and bypass the sim card option.
In this case I also get a frustrating warning that will not disappear, in this case though the warning comes from the top bar on the main screen, and it goes like this:
"CANNOT CONNECT - Dialed - The answering modem has disconnected. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap settings."
This warning, just as in option 1, seems to override all other options i have in the phone. I cannot even get to the comm manager to at least put it in flight mode, which essentially turns off all connections. However when bypassing my sim car, the phone still tries to connect to the cell network.
--
So these are my two options that I know of. Unfortunately in both options its a losing battle. I was hoping to hear if anyone knows or have experienced this problem and has found a work around to disable these warnings and error messages, so that when you know you dont have the network you can still play with your phone, even use the tom tom gps which does not use the cell network. This I also can not do because of these warnings that pops up.
I would give you more details of the phone, but I cant access it so I am not for sure which specific one is. I have only modified htc today screen, so its still main OS is windows mobile 6 and the last that I had checked windows could not find any updates.

Bypass Gmail sign-in, Bypass passwords, Bypass screen lock drawing!!!!!

I read this over at tmonews...
"While playing with my G today, I found a way to enter "safe mode" which will bypass the initial gmail signin and allow you to straight to the good stuff with out activating via google. You can also bypass the security drawing pattern.
1. Power off your device
2. While device is powering back on press and hold the "menu" key, keep holding it past the G1 and android splash screen.
Phone will boot all the way to the main screen and display "safe mode" in lower left corner.
I have confirmed that data is still fully operational and all of my downloaded programs."
Very interesting

How about a ROM DUMP?
I think there's already a thread or two about that.
im sorry to say this but the safe mode does not allow to bypass the initial activation screen but it sure does bypass the security screen

Correct I already posted about this. You still have to activate service with Tmobile and Google. Safe mode on the phone is just like on a regular computer help you fix issues.

i have been google searching for two hours and i have yet to find how to put commands into the g1 i got the drivers and everything and its recoginzed by my comp but i dont know where i type adb shell uninstall or w/e can you direct me in the right direction?
you need to download the SDK from google. You should see some threads with the SDK or the Emulater... it is all the same. adb is in the tools thread. Ohh and you need to enter "adb -d uninstall (name of apk)"

Which firmware are you running? I'm on ota rc30 and I can't repro. I wonder if this was fixed in an update.
I should say, I can get into safe mode, but I can't get past the initial google sign-in screen.

Shouldn't it help to start the phone with non T-mobile sim card?
Why u require to bypass Activation Process
You can Unlock the Phone and add your GPRS Setting and Activate the Phone Officially on your Carrier.
Well... Don't you still need valid T-mobile sim-card for the first boot after unlocking?
The real reason is, I tried to use my G1 without G1 data plan (-$25 cheaper . It was Ok, I could use WiFi for internet, but I made a factory reset and was not able to pass that activation after - can not use WiFi for that.
You require Valid TMobile SIM only for Activation becuase GPRS Setting Preset in Phone.
But if you have Any other Non TMobile SIM Card Press Menu Button this will popup APN Setting Just Press it again Press Menu Button this will popup New APN Just Add your Carrier APN, Mobile Country Code and Mobile Network Code And reboot. If you can see G or E or 3G on top Bar your Data is Activated Just follow with your Google A/c and Password and you did it

Thanks 8! i was going almost crazy to get around this checked almost every forum but no body could give me a suggestion like this! thanks for you now i know how to set up my own account!

ReyTech.
I was able to get into safe mode via holding down the Menu Key while booting. Open Home was giving me issues and i was unable to get past the "Android" splash screen. Booted to safe mode via the initial instructions and was able to uninstall open home. I'm using JF's 1.5 ADP w/LucidREM App2Sd image. So the "safe mode" works in the newest release. I can't account for getting past the drawing pattern thing since i don't lock my phone and not sure about the activation thing. But it does boot to safe mode

In safe mode, only stock apps are loaded. I can post the whole log if anyone wants me to. And yes, its much like windows' safe mode, in a sense.
My wife's g1 is stuck in safe mode.
I have tried the holding menu+power buttons till it boots thing but nothing.
I flashed back to jk 1.41 and nothing.
Any ideas on how to get out of this safe mode.

what do you mean? if you hold the menu + power button, it puts it into safe mode..
boot by holding the power only? also if you know how to use adb hook up your phone and do the following in a cmd prompt
Code:
adb logcat
we may be able to find something causing it, even if it is a little late. and by jk 1.41 you mean jf right?

I'm sorry, Yeah I meant Jesus freak. If by adb you mean having the setup to develop on the pc then nope, don't have that.
Now I did search this forums and did a google search and found out that if I power off the phone then press and hold both "menu & power red button" I was supposed to get rid of the safe mode, I should say get out of safe mode.
When the phone got stuck in safe mode she was running on of the first rom from JF for 1.5. I also read that if the holding down the bittons thing didn't work I should either reflash or master reset. Is master reset what you do from the phones settttings?
Maybe I'm just missing something. I'm usually not this dumb @ following directions lol. I got on my phone one of the hero rom w apps2sd so I have done some major things (for me) to the phone (this on a different phone. My phone lol). But this got me scratching my head.
Thanks for replying man.
* update
I did the "return to master settings" thing. The phone rebooted and went to the console then I did an alt+w and the thing rebooted to the first activation with the dang "safe mode" still there. Sorry if I'm having a hard time explaining this.
She don't have that new spl. Do you think she can run a non hero rom with it? I want to try and get the new radio and maybe the spl and that newer recovery image in her phone and just maybe a newer 1.5 stable non hero rom and see what happens, eventhou I think non of it has anything to do with phone being stuck on safe mode.

Its no problem I'm pretty sure I understand what your saying. Your menu key isn't, stuck is it? The new SPL by Haykuro will work on any almost any ROM, Hero or not. Flashing the radio might help and probably should be done. You can also try to start from step one and go through the steps to re-root it, but DO NOT PUT THE NEW SPL ON YOUR PHONE IF YOU ARE GOING TO DO THIS. downgrading the radio and/or un-rooting while the new spl is still on the phone will brick your phone.
I don't know how the safe mode is persisting across a master-reset (Alt + W)
If you are under warranty or insurance, it might be a good idea to unroot and restore original settings, and have them look at it.
You should also wait for more input by some of the community members here as I'm still inexperienced with Android.
The wife is desperate. She went to our buddy on the tmo store and he tried everything they know on it ofcourse then he found out it was a flashed g1 and told her it might be something screwy going on with it.
At the end of the visit he got the warranty department to send her a new one because "the menu button isn't working" yeah yeah... lol
Anyways... should I un root it anyways for when I have to send it? Thanks for the help man. I've been a member here since I had a dash a couple of years ago but usually don't post cause I sually find the answers to my problems by searching... the ol art of searching ah
Thanks again... ill check the un rooting thread again and will try that.
lol i've only been here a few days and i learned a lot. the people here are generally very helpful and i find almost all of my questions answered so i don't have that many posts either.
Ya you should unroot it because you don't want to have your RMA rejected and besides.... its getting RMA'ed anyway so whats there to lose

ive sent back a few g1s rooted with various roms on them, i even asked tech support if it was a issue that it was rooted, let alone running a leaked version of cupcake at the time
the responce i got back both times i asked was that as long as they can get the phone back to a stock rom, it didnt matter what rom was on it, ive yet to have an issue sending back g1's with cupcake on them before cupcake was released

If you have a SIM with no data plan, you can just bring up the settings menu, connect to WiFi, and then activate. How? Connect using adb shell and type:
Code:
am start -a android.intent.action.MAIN -n com.android.settings/.Settings

I really do hope someone will find some interesting uses for safe mode. Since I've already activated with my Google account, Gmail and Market both worked fine for me in safe mode. The only difference I see so far is that all widgets are disabled except: Analog clock, Calendar, Music, Picture frame, and Search. It did not bypass the "connect-the-dots" security drawing pattern for me. Anyone notice some other differences in safe mode?

[Q] Stuck sometimes while unlocking sim, and strange "error" in status bar

Hello. Sometimes when I turn on the phone and unlock the SIM with my PIN, it just gets stuck in the unlocking SIM message. The phone gets signal, even internet access, and I get notifications, everything runs OK behind, but I can't use the phone because that message is there in the middle of the screen. Not even enabling airplane mode fixes it, I have to reboot. I haven't tried removing the SIM, though. I recently wiped everything > flashed a factory image > flashed cataclysm > flashed franco BUT it already happened before and keeps happening now.
Also, sometimes I see a strange error in the status bar (more often when the SIM problem occurs? dunno). In Spanish (the language the phone is set to) it says:
"El acceso restringido se ha modificado"
Which in English is, more or less:
"The restricted access has been modified"
When I pull down the notifications, it's already gone, and the phone keeps working perfectly
I can't RMA it (it's not officially sold in the canary islands, well, it is via amazon but when they announced that it was too late), so I hope it's a bug. Any ideas?
I think it would be useful to know that it's a real microsim (not a cut-down SIM), a movistar one, and I don't have any other microsims to test or other phones that use microsim. The phone is from the UK.

Nexus 5 SIM not recognised

People,
I hesitate to ask the question again, but I promise you that I've read everything on the subject that I can find (including many of the 171 pages of the "Nexus 5 Flashable Modems and EFS Backup" thread...) and also on a lot of other sites.
My son's N5 on 5.1.1 ran out of battery a month ago (it worked perfectly for the 15 months that I had used it) and when he recharged it he'd lost mobile data. He had the mobile service triangle in the notification bar, but empty. No service.
I have tried absolutely every suggestion that I've read. Airplane mode on/off. Flashed 3 older radios. Installed older Lollipop & Kitkat 4.4.4 from Google Nexus factory image site. Installed the latest nightly of Cyanogenmod. Installed MPZ79M. Rooted it. Nothing works.
I don't believe it's a hardware problem - when I remove and replace the SIM the notification goes from the square with a diagonal bar across it ("no SIM") to the empty triangle. But as soon as I reboot (not just screen off & waken, but full restart) the triangle is replaced with the "No SIM" square again. The same reaction happens on the initialisation after a factory reset - at the "Register SIM" screen it says "No SIM", but extracting and replacing the SIM starts the "Attempting to connect to service" sceen, though this just does nothing until my patience runs out and I skip it. The SIM itself has 3 scratches along it, so all in all I don't think it's a contact problem, but something in the software. The SIM works fine in the Nexus 4 that I've given him.
EFS - I don't know enough about it still, but the phone displays the correct IMEI, so I'm hoping that this means that the EFS is not corrupted?
I know that this is a well-known problem, but on the off-chance that somebody has read a solution that I haven't found...
Thanks for your patience and any help you can offer.
Oh well...
...I guess I have a £350 paperweight?
I suppose at least I can use it as an entertainment console, since wifi seems to be ok. But a terrible shame to waste such a beautiful device.
Maybe you already tried it... Just to be sure:
a) You have incorrect APN configuration, to solve this try resetting your APNs via Settings > Wireless & networks > More > Mobile networks > Access Point Names and then click in three dots above and select "Reset to default".
b) Your mobile phone antenna unit is not working properly, solving this is pretty easy, shutdown your phone, remove your phone's back panel very carefully (using a plastic material..i did it using guitar pick) and then you'll see two wires adjacent to edges of your phone, just remove and refix them gently and reboot your device.
c) Reboot in safe mode and try to play with the preferred network type.
d) I had this problem "No service and no signal network in nexus 5" after restarting phone.
I tried to restart phone few times again and reinsert sim card. No luck.
Then I took sim card out while phone was on ( I forgot to turn it off) and reinsert it and now it's working fine.
It must be a contact problem. Just not shure how long will it work.

Thanks, Primokorn, I'll give your suggestions a go - appreciate the ideas.
I have tried the APN settings, but since there's no SIM (huh!) it's greyed out, though it's temporarily updateable if I extract/replace the SIM while the phone's on - but it's grey again on the next reboot.

Primokorn,
No luck. I tried all of these with no result at all. It looks as if this is a very serious flaw in the Nexus 5 - I had my doubts, to be honest, when my son said it started after the phone ran out of battery, but I see exactly the same explanation from other people in the huge number of threads reporting this no-radio problem. How can Google issue such a good phone with such a lousy bug in it...? No point in even asking them (though I've seen at least one person who tried with an impressivly helpful response from the Google support person) since not only is the phone out of warranty but it has been rooted.
Oh well, I enjoyed it while I had it...
