Alright guys here's the burning question. I achieved temp root on the note edge using king root. Now If I use Titanium Backup to freeze and uninstall all the Knox elements then use CF-Root to get permanent root will it still trip the Knox counter even though there are no more remnants of Knox?
That's a good question, did you ever get this figured out? Also what build are you running and what version of King root are you using to achieve temp root?

Are we even sure that CF-Root will perma-root our devices, yet?

With either the Verizon or AT&T variants, you have to be running KK; the AT&T variant is ANK2.

Hey guys!
I'm coming from a Galaxy s4, been using it for 3 years now and its awesome. I did all my root and installed custom roms, and of course, the easy way out and trigger all sorts of Knox..etc.... But hey, I'm out of warranty after a year...so it doesn't matter.
I just renewed my contract and now upgraded to the S5....
I looked at this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2737724), and saw that if I used CF AR, then I will trigger Knox. However, I could use the towelroot.
So my next question is: Can I install Philzrecovery or TWRP without triggering KNox? The thread seems to imply that everything will trigger root...
If you use TowelRooted than it won't change knox. But you have to stay on stock recovery. Once you flash a custom recovery that's when knox get tripped @mercyme

so basically.... If I want to install a rom, lets say MOAR rom, I would end up having to trigger knox?

Yes, that's correct. In order to install a custom rom, you have to install a custom recovery. That's what will trip knox.
Q&A for [Root/Guide] How-to Root (Simplified)
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [Root/Guide] How-to Root (Simplified). If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
The only thing keeping me from getting this phone is lack of root and the locked bootloader. However, I might be able to survive without a custom ROM if I can at least have root.
Would I have to buy this phone ASAP in order to use this root exploit before Verizon/Samsung try to patch it? If they do patch it, would there be a way to downgrade to a vulnerable version of the OS so I could apply this root in case I don't get the phone before they patch it?

You should be able to ODIN backwards and still root.
Will adaway trip Knox?
Once I root using this method if I install adaway will it trip Knox?
Has anyone been able to do the "switch to supersu" part? I'm wondering if it can be done on a mac?

No, you will not. Unless something touches the bootloader or recovery partitions, you're fine.

It was pretty easy on my Win8.1 laptop. Although, one command toward then didn't work for some reason. It just gave me a permission denied error. The process still worked and I'm on Supersu now without any problems.

EDIT: I seem to have it almost working, but when I try to push SU to my device it says my device is not authorized and to check the confirmation on my device. There is no confirmation on my device. Debugging is checked. A serial number (my device) appears in the cmd prompt when I run "adb devices". What am I missing?
EDIT2: I just unchecked/rechecked usb debugging and I got the prompt to authorize. Everything is working now

All is well. Thanks guys!
work?
It works?
If so, can someone please do me a favor?
I flashed back to complete stock with Odin and I keep getting app not installed errors and can't install the ping pong app. What am I doing wrong?
Just got a notification about an OTA Samsung software update. If I install it will the root stay?

Root won't stay, or at least I've never seen an update where root remained, but the reports are that it is rootable. I haven't tested it yet.

I've had my S6 since close to noon today. Nice device.
Now the confusion..
I have been waiting for an OTA to get to OC3 but now I'm not sure I don't already have a newer build than that??
Under build number I've got: LRX22G.G920VVRU1AOE2
I am guessing this is newer than LRX22G.G920VVRU1AOC3 which is in a lot of recent posts.
Edit
well yes I have the newest already. Just used PingPong root to root it. Had to do it a couple times before it took but works great.

Have there been any findings about what a possible root for OF1 COULD look like?

Sure, when the process is complete you will have root and when you reboot the phone it will say custom on the slash screen.
Other than that it is still a little fuzzy.
OF1 has the patched kernel and cannot be rooted nor can it be downgraded back to AOE2 or AOC3
Has anyone tried oneclickroot.exe from oneclickroot.com ?
They charge like 30$ for a "safe root" for note edge .... im wondering if its something new or just a cf autoroot rip off ?

Safe root, flash TWRP/CWM with PC ODIN and then from there install SuperSU. There, your rooted, that'll be $30...
I don't believe any method tried wouldn't trip KNOX...

If they call it a safe root , charge 30 bucks and trip knox its .. well ... a "slight" rip off.

Depends on your definition of safe... If the phone still works afterwards it was safe, nothing is said of not tripping KNOX....
@Chainfire's autoroot for the Galaxy Note5 for Sprint (SM-N920P), which can be found here: https://download.chainfire.eu/844/C...Auto-Root-nobleltespr-nobleltespr-smn920p.zip, I have only discovered while rooting my dad's Galaxy S6 (and the cf-autoroot method in the Sprint Galaxy S6 threads)... but the Note5 thread still uses the custom kernel method. Has anyone tried the autoroot method? How well did it work? Any problems? Did it work?
UPDATE:
I tried it and it worked like a charm ^.^ I was able to install XPosed and remove bloatware with no issues.
-Private Mode works - UNTIL YOU FLASH XPOSED. SEE WORK AROUND HERE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-note5/general/tutorial-how-to-fix-broken-private-mode-t3311610/
-S Health Works
-Samsung Pay DOES NOT WORK of course as flashing this WILL trip KNOX
-No Performance Issues since using stock kernel.

My one and only Windows PC just died and I'm in the middle of fixing it. The rest all use Linux. Otherwise I so would lol. I shall try it hopefully this week if not next.
If someone beats me to it, do post your results
It is a successful root, however I am noticing that my phone is now running pretty slow. But that might be due to the fact I just reset it to out of box default and it's just now loading stuff.
It is a systemless root however. I am certainly not a dev, and do mods simply for fun / to make my devices work the way i want them to... so can someone maybe elaborate on whether or not i should find a way to make the su binary exist under /system or if i should leave it be?
currently, busy box installed just fine. Will be trying xPosed next. But so far it seems to function and no glitches.
Xposed flashed just fine, did not cause any issues (so far) with private mode or S health. All works very well ^.^
EDIT: Flashing Xposed broke private mode. See fix here:

Cf auto root is the best method in my opinion. It is quick, efficient and works. Afterwards, flash/reflash custom recovery like TWRP if applicable

Yes
If someone roots, I have heard that many apps stop working. My question is, if the device is then unrooted, will those apps still work considering the fact that knox will remain tripped? I'm not referring to Samsung Pay, but rather apps from the playstore.
Yes, using magisk you can run all of the applications...
Few may need workaround but possible

I hope I don't sound noob but coming from a 6p, i believe I am. I am new to samsung(even hated the idea of having one just as i hate iphones...) but was a gift and am lovin' it. I read a lot about rooting the s8+. Even got all the tools I found through a walkthrough to achieve root on my device. Many say it's not safe. The steps were flashing twrp through odin, then flashing magisk and the verity flash in twrp.
Hope i didn't tire you yet
Just a couple questions, is it actually safe to root my device? With the knox and whatnot(never had to worry about that before with the 6p)what apps will be affected by root and how to workaround that?
I have a g955fd btw
Thanks in advance

Its safe but once Knox is tripped its tripped for good. As of now there's no way to use certain secure apps if Knox has been tripped. You won't be able to us Secure folders (private mode), S Health and allegedly Samsung pay (although this one works for me on my rooted s8+ with Magisk). There may be some other apps but those are the main ones I can think of.
Besides these apps most if not all other apps root check capabilities can be fooled or bypassed. Apps like Snapchat, Netflix and Poke Go etc.are normally blocked on rooted devices but work just fine with Magisk.

If you dont care about the apps I mentioned or possibly forfeiting your warranty then I don't see why not. Its definitely not required though. There's not too much incentive to root yet until rovo89 gets Xposed to work on android 7.0+, if ever. I just rooted to make full nandroid backups and save myself the trouble of rooting down the road. As of right now there's not too much added functionality in having root access besides a few small-ish tweaks here and there.
