Safestrap and ROMS status - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6

So with PingPong root proving that root can be obtained for the Verizon Samsung S6, the next step would be to obtain some form of recovery that would allow us to flash Touchwiz based ROMS with certain features removed, hidden, or added. This thread will be devoted to getting status and updates on Safestrap and/or ROM versions.
I'd like to start off by stating the two absolutes that I'd like to see:
Debloat
Native Mobile Hotspotting (Wifi Tether)

Thank you for this information. You may have misunderstood what I meant by touch wiz based ROMS though. I meant custom ROMS based off the stock ROMS so that they can be flashed. There doesn't seem to be any for the Verizon s6 yet.

If I want to increase my productivity at work, I'll hit you up for the broken ROM. In th email meantime, I'll stick with stock.
FYI, after disabling a number of apps using the debloat tool the battery life has improved tremendously so thanks for that. I will post a full list of disabled apps but I am not done reviewing everything yet.

Yes you are correct much easier

Forgive my ignorance, but when flashing with flashfire, are we replacing the stock ROM without using recovery? Or are we adding a new rom "next to" the original, and booting into it?
If you know of a "Flashfire for dummies" I would love a link! I really have no clue. I've never dealt with flashing anything but the old fashion way (cwm/twrp). Which, to add to my confusion, TWRP is now available for the S6

it depends on what variant you have.. if you have a locked BL twrp will not work for you.
To be honest there is no flashfire for dummies as it's pretty dummied down already lol. you have your typical wipe options and flashing options and backup/restore options.
to my knowledge it flashes to your regular partition you always use..
so set it to wipe and then install ROM.zip as usual.
flashing regular mods or zips you simple select flash zip, choose it and flash.
its sort of like its own recovery.. you'll see a loading screen followed by the screen that shows you what its flashing (update-script) so everything is selected from the app (not while in a recovery)

I think what he was trying to say was......before posting questions about flashfire, please check out this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/paid-software/flashfire-t3075433
Once you have at least read through the OP of this post and searched that forum for answers to your questions, then ask the community.
The best way I could describe flashfire is like having an easier to use version of Safestrap that is run on demand rather than as an option on each boot. If you want to flash something, you load it up in Flashfire first and tell flashfire each step you want it to follow and then click flash and it goes to work. I'd liken it to boot from CD for Windows (i.e. windows bypasses the boot up commands and instead loads files from the CD to boot up with....you'll notice with flashfire that after your boot, it loads a bunch of files very quickly and then enters a recovery mode to flash the files. But I'm just blabbering, give it a chance and you'll see it is easy making bacon taste good!

So is the real reason there is a lack of dev support and ROM cooking for this device is the locked bootloader ? It's likely we'll see a very small amount of (admittedly very good) ROMS here ?

Why can't custom roms have OTA updates?

That is not what I meant. I meant why can't rom developers send there own OTA's so the rom can pick up on them and download it Over The Air.

I suppose they could if they really wanted to, but it isnt that hard to plug into a computer and just flash an update from your ROM maker.
I think roms in the past have tried it before, just didnt end up working out I think
Doesn't ROM Mgr sort of do this already? Track new ROMs and updates for you and let you download and flash them?
yeah basically ROM manager is quite literally getting an OTA update from your specific ROM developer. i see what you mean that you dont get a pop up from them. but for all purposes, you check rom manager for a new version, download it, and it flashes it for you automatically, all OTA.
Oh, this is too funny. I normally wouldn't bother, but I just watched this Cyanogen Mod V7 Preview demo video on youtube, and at the 3:42 mark he shows the screen that allows you to enable OTA notification of ROM updates.
So, the answer to the OP is that they can, it's just most don't choose to for one reason or another...
Correct. The latest CyanogenMOD 7 Alpha 2-2 released January 6, 2011 for the Nexus S now has an OTA option.
Well I need to look through the rom more and the reason I do not like rom manager is because I do not want to pay $5 just for that but thanks everyone here.

I paid the $5 as a thank you to Koush for all his development support of the devices I own, not for the features of it - I hardly use it at all.
I do however use his CWM recovery, his root instructions and files, and he's the main dev for Cyanogen Mod on the NS. Several of my phones are much better experiences because of his work. He doesn't ask for direct donations, he just says "if you like my work, please buy one of my apps."
YMMV.
This is the first time I have actually used a koush rom but I do see where you are coming from. I just thought that titanium backup and root explorer were better deals.

[APP] Mobile ODIN!!!!

Would you like to flash an ODIN file straight from your device? How would you like to be able to do it, AND STILL KEEP ROOT?
Check it out, the guys over at Chainfire have sure outdone themselves!
From Androidpolice.com:
ODIN is a handy, yet powerful tool for Android-powered Samsung devices that allows users to flash firmware updates and kernels using a relatively simple interface.
Looking to channel the power of the ODIN tool into something a bit more, well, mobile, developer Chainfire has released Mobile ODIN, a tool that allows rooted users to flash firmware straight from the app's interface.
What's more, Mobile ODIN Pro comes with a tool called EverRoot, which will ensure that no matter what you're flashing, you'll maintain root privileges, even if you're attempting to update your device with a leaked version of official firmware. EverRoot also allows users to inject certain useful apps (like Superuser) into the firmware that is being flashed.
If you're unfamiliar with concepts like rooting, flashing, etc., check out our primer here.
It's worth mentioning that Mobile Odin Pro only supports a handful of devices at the moment, but the app is still being worked on to broaden support. Here's a list of devices that are compatible right now:
Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100
Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000
Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000
Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" GT-P1000
If your device is among those supported, grab the download below. If your device isn't supported yet, or you aren't ready to commit to Mobile ODIN's $2.69 price tag, you can check out the XDA thread for a Lite version of the app, or information on how to get your device on the list.
Just need to attach a PIT file to your post at the XDA thread to get your device supported.
If anyone can point me in the direction of a PIT file for us, I'll gladly submit it to the guys at Chainfire and hopefully get out Charges supported.

Want Kitkat now? (AT&T)

There are now (at least) two working ROMs, here are links!
The general consensus of issues so far:
• SD card not working for some, others have it working
• Blutooth audio crackles a bit but functions
• Proximity sensor for phone calls doesn't turn screen off
Step 1: Download a ROM
Step 2: Download a 4.4 gapps file
Step 3: Download Loki-doki (only need to flash if you're using a ROM not specifically labelled AT&T)
Step 4: Wipe wipe wipe, Flash your ROM, GAPPs, and Loki if needed

if this is the same one from the TMO s4 thread. I had a question that seemingly was ignored over and over again. Snotty people over there *****ing about you ATT guys, but mine is a i337m jftlecan vs the jftlemob which it fails on when flashing because of being the wrong type of hardware. Is it simply a matter of switching the type in build prop or is there something I am missing?

Yeah, noticed the politeness or lack thereof. But, we have ours too.
I really don't know the answer. There was buildprop talk and a script change early on in one of the threads. But, that may have all changed. I am waiting a few days and hope to see something att flashable. Hopefully for yours too. On att we just have to flash loki-doki. I still may try if nothing comes out specifically for att soon. I didn't like the launcher on 4.4 when I was installing just some of the apk's on a GPE rom.

Open the rom zip and you will see a meta folder. open com/google/android then copy the update script because if you try to edit within the zip it won't stick. (you can do this from your phone, i use file manager) and exit out and paste it somewhere outside the zip. edit the first three lines you'll see jfltetmo to jfltecan. now move back into the zip and delete the original and you should be good to flash.

Are you sure you downloaded the tmo rom? The international one probably don't have a security check which it looks like yours doesn’t. The reason we're flashing the tmo one is because it has working camera. The international one could have been updated by now with working camera though I'm not sure i don't go in there often. why go through so much trouble just to get a 90% working CM ROM?, just install a 4.3 GE edition, install the KitKat Apk's and you will get the same experience plus it will be %100 working no issues whatsoever. CM Roms have never been 100% working ROMS i think since version 7 they always have something not working or missing.

That will get you the same expierience UI-wise, but there are under-the-hood changes that you cannot have until you are on 4.4 - such as ART as opposed to Dalvik, wireless printing built in, etc.

That wouldn't do much but give you the launcher and maybe some new app features. When you upgrade to Android 4.4, you get more of the "under the hood" sort of changes. Speed and even the option to change from the Dalvik engine to Google's new ART engine. You also will basically just get the whole authentic experience in general. You don't get one from changing around the launcher and apps. If you could truly get the same experience with just changing those things, I'm sure Google would just change those through the Play Store with a few app updates. But they don't do this.

T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 (SM-T217T) CWM recovery and Root

Hey All,
I didn't want to risk the ban as I have found this site very useful over the years so I'm posting this here. I know a lot of work goes into finding ways to root each device when possible so I thought I'd throw my $0.02 in.
I purchased a T-Mobile (SM-T217T) Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 last night and wanted it rooted. After hours of trying every method I could (SuperOne Click, Cydia Impactor, Kingo, and every other non Odin based root I could find) I gave up and decided to try some Odin methods.
I downloaded the CWM recovery for the SM-T217S
I grabbed The Universal Root file.
And lastly Odin 3.07
BEFORE STARTING put the untouched Universal Root file on your EXTERNAL SD CARD
Put the Tab in download mode (Power + Vol DOWN)
Open Odin 3.07
Connected your Tab to the PC
Click PDA in Odin, and select the CWM file which then asks to select the recovery file inside the tarball.
Make sure the ONLY options selected are Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time and then click start.
Once the Tab turned off I let it reboot fully before touching it to make sure I didn't brick it but You can skip that and go right into recovery if you want.
Reboot into recovery (POWER +Vol. UP)
**Vol. Up and Down control line selections and Power selects the line**
Select Install Zip
Select Choose Zip From External SD Card
Select android-armeabi-universal-root-signed.zip
Select Yes
Reboot
WIN!
Once I can find a way to safely upload a a nandroid or similar back-up (maybe a more experience Dev can send me a guide/walk me through it) I'll update this post with a link for a T-Mobile stock rooted rom. Or someone else can do it after you have root.
If You were part of creating any of the root files I used (found through Google and direct linked here) please let me know so I can credit you in my post.

Have you tried "GrooVe IP" application, which works in conjunction with you "Google voice" account. Works awesome for me.

It was quick and painless and it worked great. Now I can finally debloat my tab

That was the entire reason of my exploring with root methods. I hate T-Mobile's unlock plan and figured the first step was rooting and debloating.

Has anyone been able to find a T217T ROM anywhere? I hope someone comes up with an AOSP ROM for our device.

I haven't really looked to be honest. I'm not sure if anyone has attempted to flash anything custom yet or if they have then they had issues and haven't posted for the rest of us.

How is it going? I actually like the G5 port. Please confirm everything is going well cos I would love to use it. Please tell me how you see the ROM.
My only fear is that I noticed that if one is to revert to stock there are other files to be flashed. Being the language is in Vietnamese if a mistake is made, then hardbrick will ensue.
Thanks

You can use Google Chrome to open the page and use translate the page to English, the rom installation is English. I have installed and run good and smoothly. You need to back up rom and then full wipe, and install rom. There is instruction on V3.0 section. I just use as normal use so I am not sure how is perfect or not. Any other user has idea?

I've downloaded the ROM, will flash later when I get back from work. Will let you know how it goes....
This rom is super cool. Im running a different one that's in the same section, it seems to have the UI more accurate like the V20. The devs there seem to be hella active. Ive seen updates every few days for both roms. Runs smooth and battery life is much better than stock in my opinion, cant tell if its a placebo though so Id recommend you test yourself.

Q: Can you roll back to 20J after trying 20L, or will it brick?

There does seem to be a lot going on there! But there's only one 20l ROM thus far, right?

I dirty flashed the 20l ROM over stock rooted 20l, it booted up fine and seems fine so far.

I saw a post in the Dev section that stated both 20J & 20L are both set to Anti-Rollback version 2. As long as you stay within the same anti-rollback version then you should be able to move back and forth between 20J & 20L. I believe 20E is Anti-Rollback version 1.
I am about to move back to 20J and will let you know how it goes.
EDIT: I was able to go back to 20J with no problem
Do we need to modify any of the APN's or build.prop for use on Verizon in US? My phone says 4G but keeps dropping to 3G and then sometimes it says H...

Yeah, they are active but it is expected since they have a lot of sales in the Asian market. Can you please get me the link to the V20-like ROM?
Ty
Can someone say whether this ROM has init.d support? You can tell because there will be a folder called init.d at /system/etc/init.d. It may or may not be empty. If there is something in there then it's a pretty good indication. I usually drop a file in there that will run on boot and produce a log file in /data. If that log file doesn't appear, then no init.d support is present.

Can't find it using root browser, though it maybe me. Let's wait for another person to confirm.
I'll go ahead and assume the answer is no unless someone confirms otherwise. If I knew how to mod kernels, ramdisks, etc then I would add it myself. There is a universal init.d app that can add artificial support for this in the meantime, so not a huge deal. But kernel/ROM support for it is superior.

I believe this is the ROM you are looking for: RadeonMaya
I've had it installed for about 2 hours now and all is well.
V. 4.0 Back up first. My idea for easier update, wipe Dalvik / System / Cache and then install the 4.0
For Clean install, wipe Dalvik / System / Data / Cache then install

How did you extract this? The apps I used on the phone say a password is required. And it's a TWRP backup to be restored?
Edit: got it from the thread there! Duh

Glad you got it worked out, it took me a minute to figure out the password also lol. So far I've noticed my data speeds are slow and I only see 4G and not 4G LTE at the top so far....

Ah ok lol haha, cool. All my andoid apps on the phone are failing to extract it, even with the password.
But as for the LTE, I think you may need to edit the build.prop if it isn't set up to be a Tmobile device. Or someone posted a tmo build.prop file in the thread about getting the 20l OTA, I believe

If you replace the build.prop in this rom with a stock one it will get stuck at LG and won't boot any further...at least in my experience. I'm sure it's something easy but who knows
