[APP] Mobile ODIN!!!! - Verizon Droid Charge

Would you like to flash an ODIN file straight from your device? How would you like to be able to do it, AND STILL KEEP ROOT?
Check it out, the guys over at Chainfire have sure outdone themselves!
From Androidpolice.com:
ODIN is a handy, yet powerful tool for Android-powered Samsung devices that allows users to flash firmware updates and kernels using a relatively simple interface.
Looking to channel the power of the ODIN tool into something a bit more, well, mobile, developer Chainfire has released Mobile ODIN, a tool that allows rooted users to flash firmware straight from the app's interface.
What's more, Mobile ODIN Pro comes with a tool called EverRoot, which will ensure that no matter what you're flashing, you'll maintain root privileges, even if you're attempting to update your device with a leaked version of official firmware. EverRoot also allows users to inject certain useful apps (like Superuser) into the firmware that is being flashed.
If you're unfamiliar with concepts like rooting, flashing, etc., check out our primer here.
It's worth mentioning that Mobile Odin Pro only supports a handful of devices at the moment, but the app is still being worked on to broaden support. Here's a list of devices that are compatible right now:
Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100
Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000
Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000
Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" GT-P1000
If your device is among those supported, grab the download below. If your device isn't supported yet, or you aren't ready to commit to Mobile ODIN's $2.69 price tag, you can check out the XDA thread for a Lite version of the app, or information on how to get your device on the list.
Just need to attach a PIT file to your post at the XDA thread to get your device supported.
If anyone can point me in the direction of a PIT file for us, I'll gladly submit it to the guys at Chainfire and hopefully get out Charges supported.

DO NOT PURCHASE OR USE YET! Droid Charge is not currently supported and you can seriously mess up your device!

Yeah I made sure I posted the supported devices that way someone doesn't just instantly buy it and then mess their phone up.
Chainfire said though that if a PIT file is submitted to them, they can add support. I just need to find one now.

Hacks for WIND Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4G?

I picked up a WIND Samsung Galaxy S 4G today. I looked in the Android Dev thread here and I don't see anything specifically for this phone.
The model number is T-959W so I don't want to try anything with hacks/roms etc meant for the T-Mobile version.
I'd be happy to supply a dump of my phone for any devs who want to play around and help us here in the great white north!
Thanks
System dump would be nice if you can provide it. I'd advice against installing any mods you found here. Good thing you're cautious
Great, thanks! I have never done a dump before so I'll have to look into how to do it. I will let you know when I do.
I see it has 8 gig internal, we only got 2 there's a tutorial somewhere for system dumps, let me find you the link.
You need to be rooted I believe.

I found the following source files from opensource.samsung.com
SGH-T959W_NA_Opensource.zip
SGH-T959W_NA_GB_Opensource.zip
Will these help XDA with support for the Wind SGS4G?
Sure but idk if our devs are gonna build you guys stuff. Also, go to sampro.pl, it is a polish site so use Google chrome to translate it, then create an account for the site, go firmware downloads for your model if you see. If you do, then post a link to the latest version.

I have heard that there may be an update in August. It may be prudent to wait for this update before capturing a ROM image, in case important fixes are made.
I guess a good question would be whether anyone has had any experience flashing T-Mobile SGH-959v ROMs on to this device.
Another avenue could be to ask someone inside Samsung whether they changed much between models.

Absolutely! I'm currently taking a little break (gotta find a job... like two weeks ago.), but when the dust settles, I'll take a little look at the source and see if we can help out.
What you could start with is a diff between the SGH-T959V-TMB_GB_Opensource.zip and the SGH-T959W_NA_GB_Opensource.zip drops.
I'd be willing to look into giving you guys something fun to work with.
I'll do a series of diffs tonight on the T959W stock kernel source and the T959V sources (stock and our CM kernel).

I have been hearing on the web (in these forums and on the SuperOneClick page) that the 959W is not being successfully rooted in the usual ways. Has anyone had luck with this?

You really shouldn't flash roms not made for your phone. If they contain bootloaders, you could brick your phone.
Hey T959W people. Looked at the source and things are looking pretty close. I'm not saying to run off and flash our stuff, but I need some info and someone with the big kahunas to try flashing some stuff.
Please be running linux. I can't help you with windows problems.
It would also be helpful if you have a usb download mode jig.
You can get one here:
http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-download-mode-jig/
Ok Canadians! I've verified that the SGH-T959W should be exactly the same as the SGH-T959V.
There were some interesting differences between our T959V and T959W that may fix some bugs for us on T959V.
With that said, please... please... please, read all of the instructions for flashing ROMs and Kernels very carefully!
If the rom contains bootloaders, please DO NOT flash them until we can confirm there are no bootloader differences.
Like I said before, it is very common to soft brick your device. It is not the end, and do not worry if you do this. Make sure you get yourself a usb download mode jig here:

This will help you use heimdall or odin to flash stuff to your phone to make everything happy again.
You will only hard brick this device by writing the wrong bootloaders to the phone, which is why I am warning you to not flash bootloaders, for now!
With that, enjoy cm7, cm9, aokp, et alii!
I will also announce this in the android general forum!

I managed to get my Wind SGH-T959W rooted and up and running with a unofficial CM9 build, but it took a bit of work.
Firstly, I tried just about every one-click solution out there, to no avail. It's possible SOC 1.7 with rattlethecage works, but I didn't have the patience to find out whether I simply had to wait a bit longer.
I followed this guide(whilst clenching every clenchable muscle I could consciously control):
http://www.galaxyforums.net/forum/o...mission-t-mobile-galaxy-s-4g-gingerbread.html
The gist is, Odin 1.7, stock+voodoo for T959V, plus some update that I'm not qualified to describe. That should get you rooted and if that's all you're looking for, you'll have to suffer through a little T-Mobile branding on startup.
Once you got it all rooted, you'd think it'd be a good idea to toss sgs-ics on there, right? Well, no. After installing the 4G variant, it promptly set off into a boot loop which I'm again, unqualified to diagnose. The obvious solution was to try another team's version of ICS, which I indeed found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1730954
Barring some missing features, it sounds like a good alternative to sgs-ics. Though I had to go through one additional step, which I really, honestly assure you I was under-qualified to execute. When I tried to load Team Acid's CM9 r3 it gave me an assert on the updater-script, since the hardware didn't match up. Easy. Unzip the package, open up META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script, remove the first check. You know it's the same hardware, you don't need some stinkin' script to tell you it won't work.
So all said and done, I now have a Wind Mobile SGH-T959W running ICS 4.0.4 courtesy of bhundven, the Odin folks, Team Acid, and likely a slew of other contributors.
Thanks folks, and enjoy!
PS, if you want that tarball bhundven, send me a PM with some brief instructions, and hopefully you can help my fellow Winders.

Rooting and dev stuff in layman's term

Disclaimer: I am far from being a dev of any sort, so take this post with a large serving of information reading elsewhere. I am not responsible for anything that happens to you or your phone, good or bad.
**If this thread helped you, simply click the "thank you" button and leave a reply if you wish.**
I had a really hard time entering the rooting and ROMming scene when I first got the phone, but I am now relatively confident in my rooting and ROMming. One of the reasons I had a hard time at first was simply not knowing what anything was or meant. Even after a lot of reading, I still didn't feel like I knew what I was doing (I simply followed instructions and did things to my phone aimlessly). Nonetheless, everything I post here can likely be found in a sticky or in another thread, but probably in more technical terms; I simply want this thread to be informative to a new user.
With that being said, here are a few things to help the truly new-to-the-scene guys (and gals) here:
********************************************************************************************************************************************************************
Definitions:
Root: essentially gives you the ability to access every nook and cranny of your phone and customize lots of stuff.
ROM: kind of the like the operating system on computers; there are many different ones, but find the one suitable for your needs.
imunts: some really cool dude who developed some really cool stuff for our really cool phone; he's done much for us, so he gets his own line here
kernel: the link between your phones software and hardware; comparable to the nervous system of animals by relaying info between the mind and body
flash: basically like installing something on your computer; everything installed or flashed onto electronics has its dangers and risks (and benefits).
recovery: kind of like the "safe mode" on your PC. Incase SHTF, recoveries can be used to save your phone in most cases.
dwitherell: another cool dev who made a really cool ROM by the name of Tweaked
OTA: Over The Air; typically refers to the updates being pushed upon our phones wirelessly from the heavens... or wherever data comes from
Odin: a program used to flash things onto your phone by using your computer; I personally see this as your computer being the brain and your phone being a temporary zombie that takes commands.
CWM (ClockWorkMod Recovery): a custom recovery that must be flashed onto your phone to replace the stock recovery if you want to flash ROMs, backup or restore your phone.
********************************************************************************************************************************************************************
Links
To Root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832040
To UNroot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPocqv9qWyw
Tweaked 3.2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895049
Everything you need (all files and instructions) to go FROM BONE STOCK TO ROMMED WITH TWEAKED can be found within those three links above. Please take the time to read/search a bit before asking questions. It's likely been asked 654354 times before and it will even help you learn a lot in the process.
********************************************************************************************************************************************************************
I have not developed anything for the phones, nor am I taking any credit for making the tutorials or providing the files associated with the above material.
I will update this as I have more time.
Again, if this helped you, just click the "thank you" button or leave a reply. Also, go and let the devs know how much you appreciate their work and time by visiting their threads and thanking them with a reply or something also. Otherwise, we may never get any advances to our software (like I dunno... ICS or something)

Flashed JB back to ICS but want Root
Been combing thru the developer section for hours. Of course, you have to almost go back to September for ICS related stuff. But, only saw the rom, recovery & root rom for JB. Where is the one for ICS? Even some of the custom tweaked roms for ICS now have dead links. I have root explorer and want to take some of the crap off and add some stuff.
I didn't like JB because of the GUI the notification bar was awkward and not sized right. Didn't like the screenshot softkey being gone either. The youtube buffering and connectivity was a turn off too plus the battery drain. I got 8 hrs on JB and 13 hrs on ICS. I would love to root and or put on a custom rom, any suggestions?
so i'm gonna be getting this tab in a couple weeks, and i have never had a multi version tab before (wifi onlyversion, and different carrier versions).
i found this thread, and i'm glad i did. my first question about this tab, is development related. i want to know how the community is, and how active it is. i quickly looked through the dev section and it seemed pretty positive, but it was just a quick look, so not a very accurate perception.
secondly, my question is on different twiz versions, are all stock images rootable in the same way? or are some versions more difficult to root? and i don't care about flash counters as the device is a glorified secondhand device.
and finally, just wondering how others like this tab, i don't want to start a war, or anything. just wondering about the device, because i'm new to samsung tabs.
besides that, i'm looking forward to being a part of this community.

There isnt a whole lot of development for the 10.1 version. But all of the man stuff is there and awesome. Its very easy to root on all versions of twiz. I personally love the device. I have the 5113 version which has an infrared blaster which is very useful to me. The specs arent spectacular but I havent slowed my tab down even playing high quality games. Galaxy tab 2 p3110 3G + WIFI has two problems after rooting.
I recently got a samsung galaxy tab 2 7.0 P3100 and rooted it with cwm and everything was ok. Next day, i decided to upgrade os to Jelly Bean but i copied the file to internal sd card instead of the external one, In order to correct this, i removed the ext sd card while the pad was still connected to the laptop and copied the files through the card reader of the laptop, put back the card in the tab before disconnecting. Now I completed the upgrading process, but instead of the jelly bean, i got the ICS. In download mode the laptop recognised the tab and I've flashed with odin two more time.I've rebooted in recovery mode twice without luck.
These are the problems:
PROBLEM 1. back and since then my laptop can't see the tab, I've done kies, reloaded usb drivers etc, no luck.
PROBLEM 2. In-coming calls are blocked but I can call out.

I didn't want to risk the ban as I have found this site very useful over the years so I'm posting this here. I know a lot of work goes into finding ways to root each device when possible so I thought I'd throw my $0.02 in.
I purchased a T-Mobile (SM-T217T) Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 last night and wanted it rooted. After hours of trying every method I could (SuperOne Click, Cydia Impactor, Kingo, and every other non Odin based root I could find) I gave up and decided to try some Odin methods.
I downloaded the CWM recovery for the SM-T217S
I grabbed The Universal Root file.
And lastly Odin 3.07
BEFORE STARTING put the untouched Universal Root file on your EXTERNAL SD CARD
Put the Tab in download mode (Power + Vol DOWN)
Open Odin 3.07
Connected your Tab to the PC
Click PDA in Odin, and select the CWM file which then asks to select the recovery file inside the tarball.
Make sure the ONLY options selected are Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time and then click start.
Once the Tab turned off I let it reboot fully before touching it to make sure I didn't brick it but You can skip that and go right into recovery if you want.
Reboot into recovery (POWER +Vol. UP)
**Vol. Up and Down control line selections and Power selects the line**
Select Install Zip
Select Choose Zip From External SD Card
Select android-armeabi-universal-root-signed.zip
Select Yes
Reboot
WIN!
Once I can find a way to safely upload a a nandroid or similar back-up (maybe a more experience Dev can send me a guide/walk me through it) I'll update this post with a link for a T-Mobile stock rooted rom. Or someone else can do it after you have root.
If You were part of creating any of the root files I used (found through Google and direct linked here) please let me know so I can credit you in my post.

Unfortunately, the links became invalid after a day or so.
I suggest just looking around XDA for the specific file names.

Awesome, just got a tab 3 4 days ago and it rooted like nothing, Thanks, now all we need is a sm-t217t kitkat rom :fingers-crossed:
Thanks juncey
It was quick and painless and it worked great. Now I can finally debloat my tab
That would be awesome as long as it doesn't come with Knox

That was the entire reason of my exploring with root methods. I hate T-Mobile's unlock plan and figured the first step was rooting and debloating.

Has anyone been able to find a T217T ROM anywhere? I hope someone comes up with an AOSP ROM for our device.

I haven't really looked to be honest. I'm not sure if anyone has attempted to flash anything custom yet or if they have then they had issues and haven't posted for the rest of us.

i know those are 4.2.2 but at least they are getting attention, meaning at least there's devs developing for it even if it's a modified 4.2.2 stock rom... 4.4.2 would be awesome for this tablet no doubt...I'm just hopping to get some development support for this puppy :fingers-crossed:, i hate this stupid TW...

Safestrap and ROMS status

So with PingPong root proving that root can be obtained for the Verizon Samsung S6, the next step would be to obtain some form of recovery that would allow us to flash Touchwiz based ROMS with certain features removed, hidden, or added. This thread will be devoted to getting status and updates on Safestrap and/or ROM versions.
I'd like to start off by stating the two absolutes that I'd like to see:
Debloat
Native Mobile Hotspotting (Wifi Tether)

All these are already taken care of..
1: Debloat Tool
2: WIFI Tether
3: ROM versions and updates
4: SafeStrap is discontinued and FlashFire is available

Thank you for this information. You may have misunderstood what I meant by touch wiz based ROMS though. I meant custom ROMS based off the stock ROMS so that they can be flashed. There doesn't seem to be any for the Verizon s6 yet.

If I want to increase my productivity at work, I'll hit you up for the broken ROM. In th email meantime, I'll stick with stock.
FYI, after disabling a number of apps using the debloat tool the battery life has improved tremendously so thanks for that. I will post a full list of disabled apps but I am not done reviewing everything yet.

Yes you are correct much easier
Forgive my ignorance, but when flashing with flashfire, are we replacing the stock ROM without using recovery? Or are we adding a new rom "next to" the original, and booting into it?
If you know of a "Flashfire for dummies" I would love a link! I really have no clue. I've never dealt with flashing anything but the old fashion way (cwm/twrp). Which, to add to my confusion, TWRP is now available for the S6

it depends on what variant you have.. if you have a locked BL twrp will not work for you.
To be honest there is no flashfire for dummies as it's pretty dummied down already lol. you have your typical wipe options and flashing options and backup/restore options.
to my knowledge it flashes to your regular partition you always use..
so set it to wipe and then install ROM.zip as usual.
flashing regular mods or zips you simple select flash zip, choose it and flash.
its sort of like its own recovery.. you'll see a loading screen followed by the screen that shows you what its flashing (update-script) so everything is selected from the app (not while in a recovery)

There is no flashfire apk download link available in the flashfire thread. It is also not available in playstore. I see a beta 0.18 apk download in their google+ site. Is that what you used to flash zips in S6?

I think what he was trying to say was......before posting questions about flashfire, please check out this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/paid-software/flashfire-t3075433
Once you have at least read through the OP of this post and searched that forum for answers to your questions, then ask the community.
The best way I could describe flashfire is like having an easier to use version of Safestrap that is run on demand rather than as an option on each boot. If you want to flash something, you load it up in Flashfire first and tell flashfire each step you want it to follow and then click flash and it goes to work. I'd liken it to boot from CD for Windows (i.e. windows bypasses the boot up commands and instead loads files from the CD to boot up with....you'll notice with flashfire that after your boot, it loads a bunch of files very quickly and then enters a recovery mode to flash the files. But I'm just blabbering, give it a chance and you'll see it is easy making bacon taste good!
So is the real reason there is a lack of dev support and ROM cooking for this device is the locked bootloader ? It's likely we'll see a very small amount of (admittedly very good) ROMS here ?
