Want Kitkat now? (AT&T) - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 General

There are now (at least) two working ROMs, here are links!
The general consensus of issues so far:
• SD card not working for some, others have it working
• Blutooth audio crackles a bit but functions
• Proximity sensor for phone calls doesn't turn screen off
Step 1: Download a ROM
Step 2: Download a 4.4 gapps file
Step 3: Download Loki-doki (only need to flash if you're using a ROM not specifically labelled AT&T)
Step 4: Wipe wipe wipe, Flash your ROM, GAPPs, and Loki if needed

REMINDER
This is not a development thread, this is just me trying to get you guys a list of ROMs to use while the AT&T boards don't have any in them. If you find issues on the ROMs and want to bring their attention to the developers, post in the appropriate threads listed above. I am not a developer and I cannot code. I can try my best to help you with issues on your end though!

I flashed albino mans latest in the tmo thread itvhas working camera. Just change the update script to jflteatt and flash latest supersu.
Switching from dalvik to art makes this thing suuuper fast. :good:

Flashed the latest on 1337m and it has working camera but no ext sdcard support so smooth and flawless

I think that is no exfat support, if you format fat32 should be ok
I haven't got into the linked threads too much yet. But, that was the issue on some other roms.
Only speculating atm--

if this is the same one from the TMO s4 thread. I had a question that seemingly was ignored over and over again. Snotty people over there *****ing about you ATT guys, but mine is a i337m jftlecan vs the jftlemob which it fails on when flashing because of being the wrong type of hardware. Is it simply a matter of switching the type in build prop or is there something I am missing?

Yeah, noticed the politeness or lack thereof. But, we have ours too.
I really don't know the answer. There was buildprop talk and a script change early on in one of the threads. But, that may have all changed. I am waiting a few days and hope to see something att flashable. Hopefully for yours too. On att we just have to flash loki-doki. I still may try if nothing comes out specifically for att soon. I didn't like the launcher on 4.4 when I was installing just some of the apk's on a GPE rom.

Open the rom zip and you will see a meta folder. open com/google/android then copy the update script because if you try to edit within the zip it won't stick. (you can do this from your phone, i use file manager) and exit out and paste it somewhere outside the zip. edit the first three lines you'll see jfltetmo to jfltecan. now move back into the zip and delete the original and you should be good to flash.

Have you got the update script open as a text? Once you do you will see at the very top where it says jfltetmo. There shoukd be three of them. Change all three to your model number. I'm assuming your model number is jfltecan?

Are you sure you downloaded the tmo rom? The international one probably don't have a security check which it looks like yours doesn’t. The reason we're flashing the tmo one is because it has working camera. The international one could have been updated by now with working camera though I'm not sure i don't go in there often. In any case you don't have to edit anything, just flash.

why go through so much trouble just to get a 90% working CM ROM?, just install a 4.3 GE edition, install the KitKat Apk's and you will get the same experience plus it will be %100 working no issues whatsoever. CM Roms have never been 100% working ROMS i think since version 7 they always have something not working or missing.

That will get you the same expierience UI-wise, but there are under-the-hood changes that you cannot have until you are on 4.4 - such as ART as opposed to Dalvik, wireless printing built in, etc.

That wouldn't do much but give you the launcher and maybe some new app features. When you upgrade to Android 4.4, you get more of the "under the hood" sort of changes. Speed and even the option to change from the Dalvik engine to Google's new ART engine. You also will basically just get the whole authentic experience in general. You don't get one from changing around the launcher and apps. If you could truly get the same experience with just changing those things, I'm sure Google would just change those through the Play Store with a few app updates. But they don't do this.

Just curious, with leaked 4.3 there was issues with installing a few apps from play store...anyone having issues with anything like that on here?

t989 ICS 4.0.3 on 727 hardware

So... coming from the t989 UVLDE (or whatever). Here is what I have done and what works far. Note: if you revert to the original 727 ROM _SKIP EVERYTHING DURING THE INITIAL SETUP PROMPTS_ do not do anything more than go to the home screen then reboot.
1.) From a tmo rom or stock 727 rom reboot into download mode
2.) Flash the TMO ICS 4.0.3 ROM.
Note: You can use "CheckFUS" to download the file from samsung
http://fus.nanzen.se/
3.) Reboot and wait for upgrade process to complete and sit at the home screen
4.) Reboot into download mode again and flash CWM
Note: I can only find the "CWM touch" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24085665&postcount=1 havent found the older one I use on the forum. Any help would be appreciated.
5.) Reboot into CWM
6.) Flash the TMO radio from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27291765&postcount=1
7.) Reboot
Issues:
Autorotate doesnt work right on the 727. Working on a flashable file unless someone already has one.
Wont "shutdown" stays hung at the TMO "goodbye" screen.

I brought this up in a couple of other threads earlier today:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592170&highlight=rotation+fix
This is what is used to run Skyrocket ROM's on the T989. Maybe try to reverse what is in this fix.
On TDJ's AT&T ROM for the T989, this fix is baked into the ROM. I never had any problems using his ROM with this built in. The reverse action should work going from T989 to Skyrocket.

I am good at following directions so normally if I run into a problem it is one I created myself and usually easily fixable. I have run sky ics, TWH AOKP, and nexusmod from over here and really enjoyed them all.
I do have to say that the reason I want there to be an easy fix for rotation is because of TDJ over on the T989 forums. Now that source is out and he can build his own kernel which he has said will be released later in the week, these phones will reach their full potential. On GB on that side at one point, 90% of the ROM's were running his kernel.
Downloading UCLA4 now and I'll repackage and test. I can't believe how easy these CWM zips are to make. It's easier than dealing with the software deployments at work. I should have actually looked at them sooner....
Tried a few different file versions and no luck. Pulled from 4.04 even.
I was hoping the UCLA4 zip drivers would fix it. I'm pretty certain it is something in the kernel, which I'm not advanced enough for yet. Going to bed now.
Btw- for the rotation fix, try my thread here:

Welcome to d2kat!

Cyanogenmod: everything
apparently we are starting again. taking post #2
so, this thread is apparently just for my builds. since i already made it clear that i am not committed to actively working on the d2vzw, I'm assuming its to force the other devs into making their own threads for their roms.
quick faq:
I will probably keep building these for a while to keep people satisfied until cm releases official nightlies. no promises though
my builds will be given to cammykool, untested for him to post. I do not own a d2vzw, and cannot afford to go buy one. buy me one, and I'll be able to test and fix things.
my builds will almost always be only cm code, what they have pushed to github and fixes waiting to be merged. I don't feel like fixing bugs myself. the devs that actually own this device can do that, and I'll merge it into my builds as needed.
cammy wants me to push out new builds on a weekly basis. i have no idea why he likes my builds so much, but i can handle weekly or more frequent experimental untested builds

SD card was also still broken for me (I'm thinking it might just be my SD card at this point, I'm gonna try out another one), but everything else seemed to work fine.
I thought in the other thread I saw something about CM11 not flashing with TWRP... confirm/deny with this build?
This rom really needed this fresh new start Also, what is different from this build in the op and the 2013-11-13-unofficial by sspencer? Anything fixed in it that isnt in the sspencer build? Thanks
Gonna need a lot more clarity in the OP or else this thread will be exactly the same as the last one. I'll start by adding instructions:
THESE BUILDS ARE NOT 100% OPERATIONAL.
-They boot, I flashed it last night and everything worked for me (front camera, SD card, WiFi..etc) browser FC'd on me once but that might have been something else.
-You will probably get 2 galleries, not sure why or which one to disable, I didn't get that far.
Flash instructions:
-YOU MUST USE CWM, TWRP IS BROKEN
-Factory reset
-Wipe Dalvik / Cache
-Wipe system
-Wipe Data
-Flash ROM
-Boot up, let it sit for a minute
-Reboot recovery and flash the GAPPs in OP
-Reboot and sign in
-Profit.
These were pretty much the instructions last night, and the ones I followed and everything worked fine for me.

I literally just flashed back to 4.3.1 but I ran this build for the past 3 days including the version from yesterday and today. It is seriously close to being able to be used as a DD. TVall, it seems like you are developing this until CM releases so I thought I'd say what wasn't working for me. I did not have the SD card problem but i know many do. I did have these things not working...
1. Certain apps would not reinstall from the Play Store. When I tried it said USB Storage not found
2. When launching Google+ it says network not found retry. I can view Facebook and other apps that have to get on network just fine.
3. Unable to connect to XDA using tapatalk, although I'm not sure that one is rom related as I am now back on 4.3.1 and it is still hit or miss.
4. Overall seems kinda sluggish and i'm sure that will get ironed out as the rom gets more polished. I don't necessarily mean the OS is sluggish but apps are and opening apps takes a little longer
I will probably flash back later or tomorrow as I already miss the launcher but nothing too serious here for me. Like I said it is extremely close to DD status right now and I really liked the ROM and appreciate all of your hard work.
All in all seemed OK expect WiFi and SD card issue, that's the only things I noticed. And (beepea206) yes that is true about the not flashing it with TWRP.

issue was fixed in twrp 2.6.3.1 or 2.6.3.2, i don't remember. twrp 2.6.3.3 fixed bugs in .1.

this build is made blindly by me. sspencer actually owns a d2vzw and can test and fix things. all i do is build and upload. his builds will be mostly working usually. mine will be just cm and fixes they make.
Download link not working
The download link for the ROM reads this when clicked:
"The file you are trying to download is no longer available.
This could be due to the following reasons:
The file has been removed because of a ToS/AUP violation.
Invalid URL - the link you are trying to access does not exist
The file has been deleted by the user."
I'm running the 4.4 from the older post before this one and would really like to update considering the front camera currently doesn't work on my ROM and may fix a few things. I've the link on multiple browsers and even installed the mega extension and it still doesn't work. Could you reupload?

like this rom
i like this rom only had a few problems but after a reboot seams to be working good again
I have the weirdest thing happening. I'm on stable 7 and have been for quite a while. It's worked perfectly until a couple days ago and now I can't send text messages out. I think I can receive OK. Just can't send out. I've even tried doing a clean install of this and other ROMs with same result. It gets more odd... After toying with it I can send only one text out. Just one to any person. But I can't send another unless I reboot or I think wait a few hours. Upon reboot I again can send only one text message out. And so on. I have no clue what could be happening. Any ideas?

I was able to locate the firmware and had a tough time finding the stock kernel as many links for many things are no longer good... Any thoughts, thank you in adv. Have twrp 2.8.0.1 btw and flashed MF1 firmware....

That's my bad on the ambiguity! Haha glad you've got it all set up. Just to clarify, every rom comes with a boot.img which is what becomes the kernel. Custom kernels are slightly different.

GPS issue with latest nightly
Just an FYI, I tried the latest nightly and got zero GPS fix, even with a clean flash. I went back to the latest stable build (also a clean flash) and everything's cool with that, except for my inability to view pics within Gmail. :/
Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot
Hi, I just loaded up Slimkat 4.4.4 with the stock kernel on my Verizon Galaxy S3. I used to use the Wifi Tether TrevE Mod with my previous version and that worked, however, this does not appear to work in this rom. I noticed there was a built in Portable Wi-Fi hotspot, which does work perfectly. I would like to use this but am just concerned that somehow VZ would know I am tethering and I would incur additional charges. Do I have anything to worry about or am I just being paranoid?
Thank you for a GREAT product, it's a spectacular rom.

Just did a dirty flash of 9 stable over 7 stable flashed the latest gapps, and now the Google play store does not work and a bunch of apps are requesting the install of Google Play Services.
Any tips?

You could try clearing data for the Play Store. I always encourage a clean flash (wipe data and system) before each new release.

How is it going? I actually like the G5 port. Please confirm everything is going well cos I would love to use it. Please tell me how you see the ROM.
My only fear is that I noticed that if one is to revert to stock there are other files to be flashed. Being the language is in Vietnamese if a mistake is made, then hardbrick will ensue.
Thanks

You can use Google Chrome to open the page and use translate the page to English, the rom installation is English. I have installed and run good and smoothly. You need to back up rom and then full wipe, and install rom. There is instruction on V3.0 section. I just use as normal use so I am not sure how is perfect or not. Any other user has idea?

I've downloaded the ROM, will flash later when I get back from work. Will let you know how it goes....
This rom is super cool. Im running a different one that's in the same section, it seems to have the UI more accurate like the V20. The devs there seem to be hella active. Ive seen updates every few days for both roms. Runs smooth and battery life is much better than stock in my opinion, cant tell if its a placebo though so Id recommend you test yourself.

I saw a post in the Dev section that stated both 20J & 20L are both set to Anti-Rollback version 2. As long as you stay within the same anti-rollback version then you should be able to move back and forth between 20J & 20L. I believe 20E is Anti-Rollback version 1.
I am about to move back to 20J and will let you know how it goes.
EDIT: I was able to go back to 20J with no problem
Do we need to modify any of the APN's or build.prop for use on Verizon in US? My phone says 4G but keeps dropping to 3G and then sometimes it says H...

Yeah, they are active but it is expected since they have a lot of sales in the Asian market. Can you please get me the link to the V20-like ROM?

Can someone say whether this ROM has init.d support? You can tell because there will be a folder called init.d at /system/etc/init.d. It may or may not be empty. If there is something in there then it's a pretty good indication. I usually drop a file in there that will run on boot and produce a log file in /data. If that log file doesn't appear, then no init.d support is present.

Can't find it using root browser, though it maybe me. Let's wait for another person to confirm.
I'll go ahead and assume the answer is no unless someone confirms otherwise. If I knew how to mod kernels, ramdisks, etc then I would add it myself. There is a universal init.d app that can add artificial support for this in the meantime, so not a huge deal. But kernel/ROM support for it is superior.

I believe this is the ROM you are looking for: RadeonMaya
I've had it installed for about 2 hours now and all is well.
V. 4.0 Back up first. My idea for easier update, wipe Dalvik / System / Cache and then install the 4.0
For Clean install, wipe Dalvik / System / Data / Cache then install

Ah ok lol haha, cool. All my andoid apps on the phone are failing to extract it, even with the password.
But as for the LTE, I think you may need to edit the build.prop if it isn't set up to be a Tmobile device. Or someone posted a tmo build.prop file in the thread about getting the 20l OTA, I believe

If you replace the build.prop in this rom with a stock one it will get stuck at LG and won't boot any further...at least in my experience. I'm sure it's something easy but who knows

TW ROMs in snapdragon section

Just summering if anyone had tried any of those as some say they're for our model and some say they'll work with the correct kernel.
I've been on AOSP/LOS MM,N, and O. I just wanted to try something different.
Thanks and sorry if it's been asked before

This looks interesting, what kernel did you install after installing the ROM itself. I"ve seen Boeffla, SmartPack, and Phoenix for TW Roms for verizon. There could be others I suppose in other threads though.
Also, did you do anything with CSC, That's an acronym that I'll have to look up and I've never had to worry about that option. Debloated as it is, is really nice, I'd say it's one of , if not, the fastest TW rom out. But I'm looking for something to debloat myself if possible as I wanted the theme engine from another newer phone like for example the s7/8/9 or note series or whatever phone, but substratum would be the shiznit.
Thanks for the reply, and I'm still collecting info from everyone else the more opinions the merrier IMHO that way not only myself but maybe others can make a decision.
I ran Phoenix 15 a while bak and it was a pain to install and use. But the theme engine worked flawlessly. I have all the files from one of the newer phones I found somewhere that after you copy them to the right places and restart your phone you can use s7 or s8 themes I beleieve.
Ahh that's cool the csc code can meke you TW ROM think your phone is something else... VERY COOL>

I like phones that look like "official", "untouched" and don't use rooted phones in everyday life.
That's why I use stock SM-G900V kernel for both CID15 and 11.
But if you have a CID15 phone, you can unlock the bootloader and use any kernel, of course.

Yes, the most obvious options are the APNs for local operators (I'm on the opposite side of the Globe from Verizon ) and some useful features as the phone call voice recorder.
But mostly I use this ROM because it's international and contains many languages - I use 2 languages besides English in my everyday life .
On the other hand, SM-G900V is a very good and inexpensive device and works just excellent with this ROM.

Nothing special.
The main idea is to use the system image from a good international ROM and the rest of firmware parts from the most recent G900V stock ROM.
Devbase idea is great and beautiful itself but I think is not that much needed for G900V.
Personally I use this ROM in stock unrooted variant.
The ROM (system image) is flashed to G900V from SafeStrap recovery.

Personally you use which rom?
My issues or quirks so far, going back to older twrp, just the right one so that my SD can be read, and I think none of the earlier versions that allow aroma to function correctly, can deal with my ExtSD that is set as internal in storage in N and O. So, I bit the bullet and tried a couple taking care to flash the correct kernel in each case. However, my efforts were fruitless, and I ended up completely wiped. And while I keep a lot backed up regularly, It had been a while but I didn't lose much important stuff but more like stuff I just don't like having to chase down, like the latest magisk, nanodroids zips, xposed, custom kernel, and so on..
Either way, after trying two different roms, Nemesis and Noise, which I was really looking forward to running, neither worked well. I can't remember making calls or sending texts, but I do remember a lot of apps crashing constantly but perhaps there's more to do that select a kernel, the one thing they ask you to select doesn't have an option for vzw. The code thing, that's probably what screwed me on both attempts.
For those who are wondering, there's the phoenix ROM in the vzw dev thread. It does have the theme engine from Samsung. I just wanted to try something like Noise or another Rom.
Also I remember downloading the files needed from somewhere to add to a stock rom to add the theme engine. There's quite a bit, but I'm almost certain this would work, for the theme engine, but I'd like to try some of the newer samsung apps.
I kinda really hate going back to to stock based rom because I have a feeling it's not going to be up to date with security patches. That's one thing I like about running Oreo, and even Nougat, there have been several dev's / builders releasing roms with the latest security patches baked in.. RR for example on AndroidFileHost, I think I saw viper, and others as well.
I'm still undecided at this point, and I'm just getting my apps back and with everything else after my accidential SD wipe when I tried to install one of the roms. That really sucked because my last full phone backup was a year ago.
Keep me posted if you guys get any of those ROM's from there working.
Well I've tried a couple and none of them have cell service of any type working for me. I've tried Noise and Unique to no avail. Unique booted fine but no service, Noise wouldn't get past the initial boot screen. This is just my experience so YMMV.
Oh, I've had excellent luck with the Phoenix ROM for CID 15 phones. Everything works as it should. But I still prefer AOSP or LOS based ROMS. If I can only get data working as it should when I'm not on Verizon towers.
