[Q] Asus Fonepad 7 K00E won't boot at all! - General Questions and Answers

Hi everyone!
First of all I would like to thank everyone who took the time to read this.
So about a year ago, I bought an Asus Fonepad 7 Model:K00E. Of course that decision was heavily regretted due to the uncountable bugs and malfunctions due to low manufacturing cost and non existent support from Asus itself. Anyways, so I lived with it.
A month or so after buying it, it fell screen first on concrete floor. And as you expected, the touch screen broke. ONLY the touch screen though. So then I had it replaced.
From then on the real problems began, touch screen would suddenly freeze when connected to charger, keypad would type on its own occasionally, and SD card reader no longer worked. Basically they screwed it up even more. Oh and when I changed the screen and made a factory reset due to thinking they were software related, it booted and said android is upgrading (like when you wipe dalvik) but if literally upgraded to KitKat.
Anyways, so problems stopped after a while and and came back occasionally. It worked okay for months, then one day when I was restarting it..it didn't boot..literally. Nothing even showed on the screen, it never turned on. It would just vibrate then nothing would happen. When I took it for fix and repair, since there literally no support from Asus themselves, I took it to a third party shop. After a few days I realized that people who worked there didn't know **** and just said it needs a new software.. Then they said the mother board needs to be replaced (which is basically like buying a new one..even the prices are close)
So I want to ask if there is anyway of fixing it or if anyone experienced this and how they solved it.. Sorry for the long post, just wanted to give every detail so you'd see the full picture. Thanks in advance, any and all replies are appreciated!

my device also switched off yesterday and now won't boot up, did you found any solution???

I some problem, this no boot is a only startup on recovery mode

The service centre guys confirmed that the device's motherboard is dead, so I bought a new motherboard and my tab is now working good

Portion of the touch screen is unresponsive sometimes!?

Hey Chaps,
Wondering if anyone has experienced this one before - my transformer is about 2 weeks old and I've just noticed in the last few days a funny 'unresponsiveness' of about 1 inch of the touch screen from the right hand side (this covers the "App, + , and Time " portion of the screen. no matter how many times I tap it just doesn't respond.
Heres the strange part, I flip the tablet 180 and i can close execute "Apps, +, and the Time" features no problems! Switching back also allows this to occur.
I'm totally baffled. At first I thought it may have been some software issue so I've tried the following:
- restart
- factory reset (twice),
- cold reboot
Still no go, I've downloaded a multitouch app and testing shows the same thing!
Cheers in advance for any assistance provided.
p.s firmware is 8.6.5.9 TW
Sent an email to ASUS to see if they will recommend anything.

excuse the heavy breathing & poor camera skills - i'm sick.
experienced the same thing. i bought my tf to an asus repair center, said there was another one with the same case as mine, making me the second. they said they fixed the first one by upgrading roms. i highly doubt that though, since i tried everything from reflashing stock to rooting to a custom rom.. everytime, there's still a weird unresponsiveness that randomly appears and disappears..
neilbantoc,
I think I nailed it down - I turned it off, and left it off last night. When I started it up this morning, it was all good - I was amazed as I thought it was gone. Then it came back after 5-10 mins after some surfing / games. What struck me that I never really put 2 and 2 together is the back plate of the affected area, it was hot!
I personally think it's an over heating issue and not a software issue. The seller said it was their first TF101 returned and they have sold many - guess we just lucky we got lousy ones?
I got an exchange today and no issues so far! Fingers crossed.
Got the same problem, tried different roms, kernals.etc, will send it back for exchange.
I had a similar thing - Try downloading a drawing app and drawing lines SLOWLY down the screen with a stylus (fingers are too fat).
This may reveal areas of touch screen which don't work at all.
For mine I had a line nearly an inch high level with the speakers running horizontally across the tablet.
If you have this, get an exchange - their repair of mine failed and made it worse, and it took a month, so IMO don't risk a repair.
Guys, I can confirm that the problem has gone away with the replacement. It was definitely a hardware related issue (I still think it's over heating )

A700 Touch Stops Responding

So, I just got my A700-32GB and it started out great but for some reason it started not responding to any touch after a few minutes. If I hit the power button to let it sleep and hit it again to power it up, it responds again for about a minute and then stops again. I did a factory reset and it works but after about 5 mins of use it does it again. Anyone else run into that prob? Well, needless to say, Acer wants me to send it in so I will be back to my A500 for a week...That sucks, but I'd rather have a working unit. I didn't have any problem with my A500, hope I didn't get a lemon.
They fixed it...So they say.
So, I sent the device back and monitored the status on the support site. Took 2 days to get there. 1 day later the status changed to resolved. I was supposed to get a follow up email with a tracking number but no dice. I looked it up and it listed resolved but no tracking number so I called. The guy was a tool from an India call center. He was hard to understand and it seemed like he didn't understand what I was asking. I got the tracking number after asking about 5 times. Then I asked if they found what was the matter with it. His response was, "It was a problem with the digitizer so they reset the software." So I asked if it a hardware problem and he said, "No" I asked to clarify if it was a problem with the digitizer hardware and or the OS and he said, "no, we reset the software." So, I hope I get back a working device that isn't going to crap out. It is scheduled to get here on Monday.
Wish me luck. I'll post my findings... Things were SOLID with the A500, I hope they didn't just screw this product up. I like my A500

Got an update for you all. So, I got the device back and the " Diagnosis/Repair" said that they reseated the digitizer cable and it fixed the problem. Well, it didn't!. It worked for about 5 mins and after that it started crapping out again. I called them and REAMED them a new one and they had to discuss it with a supervisor and they escalated me to the next level. Which means, my call got transfered from India to Texas.
After about 30 mins of walking the technician through my frustation, he sent me another Fedex Ground label (7days) and told me that he would ship it back Express (2 Days) after they repair it.
The "Diagnosis/Repair" this time says "Replaced mainboard and LCD module. All systems tested good." So, I turn it on and it is asking me if I want to updated the device. I canceled it for now to test it out and it seems to work fine.
So, does anyone think it might be the update that caused the issue? Should I try running the update? Anyone hear about the update causing a system hang?

Holy cr*p, why doesn't Acer just send you a new device? It's a lot faster, easier, customer-friendly and probably much cheaper.
The update is probably JB, which changes (fixes) the touch response. But since Acer replaced the whole motherboard and LCD (why not the friggin' touchscreen itself?), it should be nothing to worry about updating. Some people (US peeps mainly) are having trouble with the update yeah, but it should go well and if it doesn't, the tablet will (or should ) revert to the state before updating.
Good luck.

Well Mate, I have a 701. Long story, but it's my second 701. First was bricked due to a faulty CWM recovery.
As with all reported issues with ICS (initial build) touch screen will "lag" at certain times. Not totally unresponsive, but required 2 or 3 times selecting an icon for example. This I saw myself on occasion. So you were not seeing things
With the JB update, it seems these issues have mostly been fixed. I was prompted as soon as I started (my second tab), but waited till I filled out the Wizard. And checked to make sure things were normal. Then I did the update to JB.
Also know this, some icons in apps, require you to touch the point, in a slightly "offcenter manner". Like the refresh button on the Acer weather widget. Not sure if this is a widget/app programming error in the widget itself, or is caused by the 70x digitizer. Doesn't do it with all apps though.
Go for the update.

[Q] Asus transformer screen touching by itself

Last september I did what most people do when they want more out of their device, I rooted and soon unlocked to put on custom roms. Everything worked fine with the occasional bootloop that was easy to fix. One day, my tablet started to open and shut apps by its self and scroll from the right to the left on the screen or on whatever I had open at the time. In a desperation, and partially the tablet clicking wipe all, I lost all hope of getting my tablet back until today. I finally got it to charge and got chromi-x on it from a micro sd card, but the tablet still presses things randomly by it's self and I can't figure out what is causing this. Any help would be appreciated.

I had that issue with both a Palm Pre phone and the my TF700T. In both cases the problem was h/w and required repair/replacement of the digitizer by the vendor.

Really? How much would that cost sense I never had a warranty and even if I did. I voided it within the month of buying it. I don't want to spend to much sense I am more than happy to just keep on using my iPad.

Mine was in warranty but based on other postings I've seen, it would most likely minimally be $150 (plus mailing and insurance if desired). You'd have to contact Asus but until they have actually looked at it they probably couldn't cost it accurately.

S6 Pressing Back Button By It's self (Capacitive key)

I'm not sure how this is possible, but about once or twice a day, the back button on my S6 is pressed on it's own. It has happened when the device has been on the desk, I see the soft keys light up, the device vibrates like they've been touched and the app I was on went back, all while I was not even touching the device.
It's happened mostly when I'm holding the phone but not even close to touching the buttons, and once it happened and pressed the back button about 10 times in a row while I watched it.
The phone is completely undamaged, perfect condition, never touched water, not dirty at all, buttons are 100% clean. Happens while it's charging or on battery.
Has anyone else experienced this?
(My device was repaired by Samsung for a different issue, motherboard replaced, this only started happening after the repair)
i have, started like yours random. then it started happening more and more so when i was at the store waiting for someone i decided to factory reset ( factory reset twice while at the store) but it got worse. couldn't even get passed initial setup the phone just kept spamming back button so i just kept going back. luckily i already ordered a replacement s6 from tmobile since i was having some other issue with the phone. sadly the replacement s6 took over 7 days to get here. shipped through UPS and got to hawaii then for some reason UPS gave it to USPS for delivery. kinda sad that i ordered screen protectors 2 days after i ordered replacement phone and the screen protectors got here 4 days later through USPS. but other than that my NEW ( we all know its refurbished) galaxy s6 so far has no issues. even the no audio on calls is fixed.
also if you are going to order a replacement, be sure to let them know you have a GALAXY S6 and the date it was released. i say this because the 2 tmobile reps i talked to kept asking questions they say it was for them to determine if my galaxy s6 that was what 2 almost 3 months old at the time was still under warranty
My s6 was showing the same issue with the stuck back button.
It started randomly but than it went crazy and stuck. I wasn't even able to use it.
But 1 factory reset fixed it.
But yesterday the random stuck back button started again when the phone was on my desk and it was really hot (weather was hot as well as the phone). I turned it off for a while and apparently the issue stopped.
I'm not sure it's temperature, firmware, whatever related but I really don't want to factory reset it again.
No solution here, but it is happening to me as well
Solved
Hi i had the same problem aswell , i bought samsung s6 in Pakistan, after the update the back button kept pressing ghostly, i went to local samsung repair shop and the assistant reset something from the setting and then it was fine, i even asked him what you did and how you did? but he said it is secret lol very stupid. i could have post the solution if i know it, but i think it is very easy and something to do with setting. i am sure it is not hard/soft reset. i will post this on other forums to help other people.
thanks
having this problem with my phone too, i cant even get it to stay on the settings screen long enough to back up my stuff
edit: well i think i solved it. i tried clearing the cache, didnt work. then i did a hard reset, didnt work. then i went back and cleared the cache and did a hard reset at the same time and it seems to have worked.
+1 same problem. It happens mainly when the phone is on the move. Funny thing it happened 3-4 times while taking the metro (go figure) with the data on. Usually when I turn off the data, it reduces the amount of back press.
Normal reset doesn't solve the problem. It stops after a while, probably when the phone cools down. I can't seem to reproduce it, but I believe it has something to do with the data on.
I don't really want to factory reset so I'm going to write to samsung directly as the phone is brand new.
i am having same issue too.
---------- Post added at 09:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:16 PM ----------
Did anyone try loading a custom rom and got it fixed ?
I've had that issue with my first one. Took it back ASAP as it was DOA. Got a brand new one 3 days later as they didn't have any in stock. This one doesn't have any problems. Don't worry to mutch about it. Get it exchanged.
It is a hardware defect: When the phone turns up power to the radio to strengthen the connection, it can cause Electronic Noise to leak over the connection into the capacitive buttons (due to poorly insulated shielding tape), causing the phone to think the buttons were pressed. That's why you notice the problem more when roaming -- the device needs to be repaired/replaced.
I have the exact same problem...did anyone contact the manufacturer and got a response on the matter?
I believe it may be an app setting messing with the system settings. My device did it once and wouldnt allow me to use my device. After factory reset it made it worse so i used twrp and wiped everything but my modem and flashed my stock firmware and it stopped and hasnt done it since

Hum that's interesting, thanks for your precious input on this.
I did contact Samsung who asked me to do a factory reset. It didn't change anything.
They redirected me to a Samsung office in Paris, not for repair but for a deeper factory reset... (not sure what they are talking about), but I haven't been there since due to lack of time.
However, I didn't experience the problem since the last update FXXU3QOKN so I'm keeping an eye on it.
Following "faiding's" comment, I'll probably pay them a visit for a replacement.
working "workaround"
workaround:
lower the speaker volume to ~75% in all settings (Media, ringtone, system, notifications, etc...)
Whats going on? why is it working?
some posts ago someone (user called "faiding") mentioned something about EMC leak, or at least he meant to, by mentioning a faulty insulation.
with that in mind i did some testing and found out that the closes radiating component it the speaker... and once you lower its emissions even thought the faulty insulation, the EMC leak is sufficiently low and the 'capacity short' is avoided.
Note: depending on how 'faulty' is your insulation (it varies from one phone to another depending on production line assembly) lower the volume until the issue stops accruing.
not full-proof but working

might be a coincidence, but this worked for me:

Repair tech
It is true that if your in the US and your phone has no damage or any water damage to void your warranty even if you bought it from someone else, u can register the phone at samsung website and then request a repair. It will still have a warranty.
But as I am a Cellphone tech, sometimes I rebuild phones. A s6 came into my shop and i once rebuilt it and worked for a while before doing the phantom touches on task and back keys. So when i pulled the screen up a little off the touch keys, it would stop. I gave up after a while trying to figure it out as i had more things to work on. Back in December i decided to rebuild it again, new screen, new battery, new frame and new back. Turned it into a gold s6 to try and sell it again. Sold it couple days ago, and it came back the next day doing the same thing. So got bored tonight and started to take it back apart. Figured i would try one more thing, replaced the charging port (which is also the soft touch keys) to see if that would resolve it. So far its not wigging out but im letting it sit here and try using it from time to time, with wifi on and a simcard installed. So far its not going crazy, but I will let everyone know if it fixes it or not. As for the "Youtube thing" I tried that, did not resolve. Im guessing its a defective soft touch keys/charging port.
I would not recommend this repair unless your phone is out or voided of warranty.

Hi dslayer83,
I've the same problem with my S6
Could you solved the problem replacing the charging port?
It would be very important to me knowing how to repair the phone because I buyed it abroad. In my country Samsung does not cover warranty.
Up with this thread!
I had an S6 since January.. initially the problem was very random, maybe 1 or 2 times per day, sometimes would go crazy for a while
Then i had some time with no defect at all (a couple of weeks?) without doing nothing
This past week, the phone was feeling like the MENU button (what menu as in this phone there isn't any?) and that was very weird!
Today, it simply went completely crazy, and now is completely unusable... i can't actually swtich it off as the back key is pressed so quickly i don't have the chance of doing nothing!
EDIT: Managed to reboot and wipe cache... now it is useable, but still hits the button from time to time
Update... went unuseable again today.... factory resetting now...
If it works, shall we suspect is something software related?
Update: Not working... it started giving the phantom touches just after the factory reset then suddenly stopped
Worked fine for few hours, then started craza again
Now i have done a wipe and factory reset again, and still unuseable

We've heard of similar cases here on XDA before, sounds like a dodgy digitizer to me.
Had the same problem last year, after that I started getting these so-called snowstorms and my phone kept rebooting itself.
I ended up purchasing a new screen on eBay and was lucky enough to get a genuine one for about 70 Euros.
All went well for me, new screen's working flawlessly.
If the problem persists or even gets worse you should perhaps think about whether it's worth the money.
Removing the old display and assembling the new one isn't that difficult, there's quite a few YouTube videos out there.
If you have any further questions feel free to ask.
Edit: When did you start having that problem? I don't think it's probable but maybe it's got something to do with the ROM you've got installed. Try flashing another one (e.g. AEX Pie, LOS 15.1 or stock) without any custom kernels or boot into TWRP to see if you've still got the same issue. Play around a bit to see if the problem still persists. Remember to back up your important data. Again, this probably isn't the cause but it's still worth trying before considering to buy a new screen or phone.

No problem. Here's the link: https://ebay.to/2N7SQYO
Hope it's OK to post this on XDA.
I've suffered this issue since 1 year and last month the phone couldn't display itself anymore, my trick was to slightly twist the phone using both hands and it will temporarily enable the display, got tired of it and I went to a local mall offering mobile phone repair services, told them the issue, most of the shops refused or would just advise me to get a new screen buty persistence in telling that the screen is fine it might be just a small misalignment or loose contact and thankfully one technician listened to me and just asked if I'm willing to risk the screen being damaged and we'll what do you know he just re seated it and walla phone is alive again in fact I am typing this through my S5
