I've been following the Flex 2 since Flex 1 came out
I've been planning to upgrade from my Note 2 FOREVER... I really wanted the Flex 2 but the whole SD810 overheating problem, lack of 3GB RAM and no Flamenco red colour choice in Europe has stopped me from buying the LG G Flex 2 straight away. I can see SD810 is getting better with updates and I realized 2GB RAM (European model) is not a deal breaker for me. But I really want a curved screen and the Red colour choice.
So I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for the red colour to come out in Europe... and guess what?
G4 was released today.
G4 seems like a perfect phone to me. LG seems to have corrected a lot of its mistakes from G3 and Flex 2. Perfect Camera, Perfect Screen, Perfect Size, Perfect Battery, Perfect Micro SD, Perfect UX.
But I just cant get over the FLAMING HOT RED AND CURVED LG G FLEX 2. My head is saying G4 but my heart is saying Flex 2.
So I have to make a decision and I would love to hear some opinions
G4: More RAM, Better Camera, "More Stable" Processor, Better Screen, Better Software.
Flex 2: CURVED SCREEN, FLAMENCO RED.
What would you choose?
I may have only had the flex 2 for 5 days, but so far I like it. I do have issues though.
Battery is nothing near what the flex 1 was, barely lasts me 12 hours of moderate use. 6 hours of heavy use. (average screen on time is 3.5 hours so far)
The device does get hotter than the flex 1, but it hasn't overheated yet. It will get hot to the point where the device will prevent you from increasing the screen brightness, though.
Performance is fine. It has very small, almost unnoticeable lag every once in a while. Usually in an app that requires a lot of computation (games).
Take everything I say with a grain of salt, as this is the AT&T US version, which has 3GB of RAM.

I'm actually quite irritated that the G4 wasn't on the radar a month ago. I would have waited a little longer, and now I'm stuck with a device that seems like it wasn't designed as well as it should have. I feel burned by LG for this, especially because I took a risk with a preorder. I really wish I could return it and get a G4 but that's not an option for me ($-wise) anymore.

That's why is best to wait it out instead of trying to be one of the first to get the device. Also there was so much rumors about the 810 chip before the device even had a release date but a lot of folks decided to ignore it and still risk on getting it thinking maybe an update would fix it.

LG G3 was the first phone with 2k screen and they didn't do a good job with it, then came along Samsung and perfected the 2k screen same with the chip lg g flex 2 was the first with it and failed badly on behalf of both LG and Qualcomm. Now what even funny is that the G4 has the 808 chip which LG and Qualcomm has been working on for 2 years what!!! Lmao I know right I mean why didn't they just go ahead and put the 808 into the flex 2? Well guess the flex 2 was their test phone for Qualcomm 810 chip and saw how fail it was and decided to go with the 808 for the G4 lol.
G4!

Now, this is a device I might actually buy if the price is set right. Top-of-the-line Snapdragon 810 processor with a FHD!!! Screen, 3000 mAh battery, 13 MP camera and all other goodies like the curve and it's self-healing back cover (which hopefully will work better than the old one.
The original G Flex had poor developer support due to it's price and mediocre display, but it was blazing fast, had insane battery life (720P POLED coupled with a 3500 mAh battery) but this G Flex 2 is better in every way and I'm just hoping that it will be cheap. I doubt it, but one can hope.
This thread will be updated with wallpapers as soon as they're live.
I really like g flex 2 specs. looking fine and the size of the phone is well. First flex was huge for me but g flex 2 is perfect. But I think it wont be cheap.
>it will be cheap
They said it will be priced higher than the G3 and its successor.
I am sticking to picking up phones used now and not signing up to lenghty contracts but the LG's do seem to depreciate faster than other brands.
To be honest I think even this G2 is powerful enough for my needs, I do wonder how much day to day performance gains these new chips bring. Looks good though I would like to have one
Check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EKilfyOHh0
G2 users soon: Screw G3 port! Do a Flex 2 port
This phone looks good, but not much differences with G3 except screen flexibility... I think much people will appreciate G3 due to his price and others good performances...
Looks like LG listen to their costumers. It has great specs and I can't wait to see how the first ever snapdragon 810 phone will preform.
Until recently I was a Nexus 5 user, but it broke and I switched to my wife's old G2 that was in a draw upstairs. Such a good phone.
But, I am itching for a new phone. Was very tempted by the Nexus 6, but I decided that it was just that little bit too big for me.
The G FLex 2 has me pretty excited. It depends on the price here in the UK really. If I can sell a few bits and bobs to secure the funds then I am very much hoping this will be my next phone. Unless the G4 really smashes it out of the park that is.
LG really are nailing it in the Android space at the moment. They seem willing to take risks and listen to the customer feedback.
awesome phone, but unfortunately not my price
Is it me or does Lollipop on the G Flex 2 suck? I've heard rumors of problems with the Snapdragon processor, but I think overall my experience with LG phones leads me to believe that Lollipop might be the problem. The battery life is average at best, where as other LG phones like the G2 (KitKat) have way better battery life. Performance lags on the G Flex 2, for example if you drag down the notification menu there's a small lag.
Any hope for getting a KitKat based rom on LG G Flex2?
I'm guessing it has more to do with LG not spending any time to optimize the overall performance and experience, focusing instead on their upcoming flagships.
It suck on the nexus 6 as well . sold my nexus 6 for this phone the new os is gonna take awhile until Google refine it. Hell they did a horrible launch on the nexus 6 that phone got so many issues. In time it will get better
Lolipop on the Nexus 5 is incredible. I'm so annoyed with LG right now. This device is crap.
Its more of the developers error pushing preset numbers that throttled the crap out of the phone. Fix comming soon.

Battery life is the issue for me, as a guy who doesn't buy portable chargers, I need one now for the Flex 2. It's very disappointing. Hope LG does something about it
Sorry fellas, I returned this pos, even after reconfiguring the throttle levels, which made the phone better, but not as smooth as I'd hoped overall. Picked up the nexus 6. Enjoy this pos for the next 8 months until they release lg g 4 lol...

Have fun with the nexus 6 i sold my for the glex 2 then had issues and took it back for the note 4 and couldn't be any happier. Lg dropped the ball on this device. First off if people wanted a smaller phone because the og flex was to big get a g3. Secondly they should have offered the lg g pro 2 to all the carriers or kept a phablet around in either flex or g pro form. People buy phablets then complain about the size i don't get it. Samsung has the same issue people complain about built quality then complain about no sd card or removable battery. Hopefully lg do right with the g4. The flex 2 is a great device with a bad engine that overheats.

I'm actually kind of feeling the same. I haven't had the lag nor overheating problems but the phone refuses to see my samsung 64gb micro sdhc.
It also corrupted the data on it and i lost 40 gb of content. About half of which i cannot replace.
With the Galaxy S 6 coming out on the 10th I just may switch depending on how things go.
Lollipop 5.0.1 and 5.0.2 has a huge memory leak... and it doesn't help that our cores are throttled due to over heating... the memory leak is fixed in 5.1
Hey guys,
It's been a long time since I bothered to post anything here but, I just wanted to make a post to say goodbye.
It's coming up to 2 years since this device was released and now a lot of people on 2 year contract cycles will finally be able to upgrade to a new and better phone.
I was lucky enough to be offered an early upgrade months ago and have been using the s7 edge for about 4 months now.
It's a fantastic phone and it's like heaven after using the G flex 2.
Don't get me wrong, it's certainly not without its own faults, I'm still figuring out how to hold it without constantly touching the edges of the screen.
I've finally traded in my flex 2 though, so I thought I'd share my final opinion of the phone with you all;
Even as I handed the phone over in exchange for a small amount of cash, the clerk commented on how good the flex 2 looks.
That's what I believe won me over to begin with.
It's a beautiful phone, the curved design just draws you in and wraps you up in the screen. It was always so pleasing to hold in your hand and sat very comfortably in a pocket without poking you.
The buttons on the back were (in my opinion) perfectly placed and never ever pressed by accident.
Even the default wallpapers showcased the definition of the screen perfectly with powerful imagery and vibrant colours.
I really wish I could say that such a pleasurable experience as that first moment lasted longer than said first moment.
Unfortunately, the first night I had my flex 2 I bricked it!
I tried to change the lcd density and must have done something wrong because it got stuck in a bootloop.
There was literally zero information on how to recover from this back then so, I took it back to the shop and was given a new one.
If I had had any idea of the future then I would have never accepted a second flex 2...
Over the years I broke another 2 G Flex 2's due to testing everything myself and all the other devs could possibly think of to just do even the simplest modifies on this phone.
In fact, after the 2 years I've had the flex 2, I've found that I'm so far behind the modding and roms scene that I cannot honestly call myself a dev anymore until I feel I've caught up.
As I don't have the kind of money some people do, I can only justify having one phone at a time.
This particular phone (again, in my opinion) has damaged the modifying community, not just because I've fallen behind (that would be a monumental ego trip if I thought that was true) but because so many people have given up truly great work due to lg's policies.
I won't go into it any further as I'm sure you get the point already.
Is anyone else due an upgrade, or are you in the process of dumping this phone anyway?
If you are then please, join me in sharing your final thoughts on the LG G Flex 2.
I'd love to see how other people have been coping with this device for the last 2 years.
TLDR: The LG G flex 2 Is just a pretty face!
Do not get this phone if you are after anything more than an overpriced burner.

I know where you are coming from.
I recommended the GF2 to the Mrs due to the great specs for the money, (about $250.) The phone looks great but you either have the choice of the H955 which doesn't have enough RAM, or the H950, which is held back by AT&T's crappy software that sucks the battery dry in no time. If I could turn the clock back, I'd never have suggested this phone to the Mrs and I feel a bit guilty as she is stuck with it, (Even guiltier now that I'm one the One Plus 3 which is everything the GF2 should have been.)
Let me join the party as well. Like the OP said, my 2 yrs contract is up and make me choose a new phone to continue with the contract. Well, call me stupid, but I choose the LG V20 (yet another LG). I didn't trade-in my H959 as it will continue to serve me as a backup phone.
There're reasons I choose V20 over other phones. Main reason is the QHD display, and another big reason for it is the replaceable battery.
So far, I also enjoyed the great double barrel shooters as well. I always shoot in manual mode if it is possible (if I have enough time to switch to manual mode). The wide angle lens is superb for group photos, as well as the landscape shootings. The normal lens is also very good for night-time shooting and macro photography. The lens-blur on that camera is awesome.
I'm only disappointed that the battery didn't last much longer than expected. But since the battery is replaceable, I don't mind it at all.

Interesting choice Spider,
When the Mrs's GF2 packs in, I will be advising her to go for the One Plus 3. In many ways the One Plus 3 is the opposite of the V20 as the hardware is inferior in pretty much every way. On the other hand, the software is just awesome and has given me the best Android I've ever experienced.
What I always wonder about the GF2 is how it would have performed running something like CM13. Would this have been the phone that we were always promised?

I could have choose OP3T, but unfortunately it's not available with my telco, so I've got to stick to LG again. On the other hand, the metal body, the QHD display and QDAC audio is too good to deny this phone. LG's customization to Nougat is also quite decent. The only thing I don't like is the new LG Launcher 5. I've never been a fan of "throw all your icons on the home screen" type launchers. That's one of the reason I don't like XiaoMi phones as well. Luckily, LG let me download the old Launcher 4 "Home & App Drawer" through the "Update Center" and the problem is resolved.
I always would like to run a stripped down version of MM on the GF2. Something like the Slim rom will be awesome. My GF2 H959 has already been on the V20A so I know it can run MM nicely. Just hope that it could run faster.
for my Mrs, I get her a Sony Xperia XZ becoz she's been complaining me a lot how bad the photos taken by her G3 is. Japanese built quality, dedicated shutter button, ip68 certified, and the awesome iA mode on the camera, she's quite satisfied with tha t phone as well.

I'd always discounted One Plus from any decision due to it being a Chinese phone with Chinese support.
That changed here in the UK where they teamed up with O2 and sold it in there stores. What really sold the OP3 to me though was the 6GB RAM. Lets face it, for now and the future, you can never have enough RAM.
I agree with you regarding the Camera on the G3. Its the same camera as the GF2 and whilst good in decent lighting, in low lighting it gets its focus wrong time and time again. It's so bad on the Mrs's phone that my LG G2 used to take better shots.

Best phone i ever purchased.
Battery life and performance is amazing.
Stock android is very smooth way better than my galaxy S6.
Love the simplicity of the phone, no hardware issues from the device except few OS side issues
Phone is outstanding. Great battery life / form factor / build quality.
Price point combined makes this my favorite phone to date.
Nexus 6 note 5 s7edge.
I like this better than those.....
My only actual gripe would be that front speaker grill(cavity) gathers dust rather quickly and it's kind of annoying.....but I just blow the dust out from time to time....not that bad
Will see how long it lasts...but for price....beats the g5. I should have never spent an extra dime on my g5 and just got this but the 4g ram version. But even this works good enough.
GPS....no issues (g5....horrible),
Never gets hot...g5 got so hot that after 9 months it now bootloops when it gets to hot (no warning and no way to cool it down fast enough)...
Had some issues while driving (ups driver) where my gps would show on maps no connection (like the g5) but it pulls the address , loads and doesn't look position.
For a 200$ phone it is really good. Lg should learn something...word of bootloops in g6 and v20 is already out.
The Moto ..2 weeks in....much better than my g5 felt in it's first 2 weeks. Especially battery wise and heat wise.

Possibly the best value smartphone I've owned in all the devices since my first smartphone back in 2003 (HTC Canary)
Used to spend considerable money back in the day to have the latest phone with a USI, but no more, can't justify it, phones are much of a muchness these days.
Mine is doing great. Haven't even really tweaked it, didn't root it yet, and very few things I dislike. Can't get over the fact that the 2 g5 and my wife prior g4 are such a waist of lg techie....

I really like the G5 Plus, it could do with the sharpening knocking down on the rear camera but that is my only criticism really.
I'm a big fan of stock Android, really love the stock UI. Great performance and battery life, especially from a budget phone. Still not a fan of the ascending ringtone, but I can live with that.

Coming from a OnePlus One, the Moto G5 Plus does pretty much everything that's expected of it. For the price, it's amazing an amazing device. My only gripe is the lack of a compass which makes it tricky to use Maps.

Ahh... So we traded our NFC for a compass? Odd trade off.
After 3 month or so of use the vibration feature started to die for me (US unlocked g5 plus 4/64). If I move the phone / shake it, it might come back on for a while. Figure it has to be something loose? I never dropped my phone or done any damage I can recall to it... So it has to be poor manufacturing. This is the second Moto G that I had defects in, too (g3 some years ago). My bad luck or just cheaply made products (get what you pay for)?
Nonetheless, think I'm looking to a different company next time.

No service center near me. So I can either send it to them, sit without a phone for 10? 15? 20? Days... Or pay for a replacement along with the $200 hold.
I'll eventually send it out, after I get a replacement phone that isn't Moto. Google should have never sold Motorola to Lenovo. Their quality has tanked.

Well, I succumbed to the advance replacement and paid the $25 plus the $200 hold money to ensure I'd return a phone. For my troubles Motorola charged me an additional $25 for no reason. They assure me it's no problem, that when I return the broken one I'll get all 225 back (security hold plus the extra money for no reason).
I expected nothing but problems and Lenovo isnt letting me down. Grr.

I like Moto G5 Plus. Good budget phone, great performance with Snapdragon 625, good battery life, good display, except compass sensor every sensors are available. Using from 3 months now and I m satisfied with this phone.
The Moto G5 Plus is my 13th android phone, and I've been using it for about 3 months now. I think it's outstanding, and I expect I will use it for quite a long time.
It's not perfect. The screen and camera are mediocre. It's slightly too big, 5.2" is an awkward screen size IMO (the G5 was perfect at 5").
I've never felt so happy with a phone like with my LG G Flex 2.
I always had a soft spot for stylish phones
- I had a few Motorola Pininfarina, loved them.
- I remember my Nexus One fondly
- I had a great time with HTC Sensation.
Then I fell in love with the LG G Flex 2
I knew Flex 1 and was curious about it, almost bought it, but it was too big for me.
My HTC Sensation died so I bought Flex 2.
Loved it every bit. The OLED display, the curved display, the feeling holding it while talking, etc.
I was very happy with it, and I knew they were better phones, with better display, 4k, battery, android version, but I didn't care.
I had a blast with it for a few years until it started failing. Overheating, boot loop. Fixed it a couple of times because I love it so much but in the end I couldn't get it to work anymore.
Bought a Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite and I am happy with it, very solid performance, lots of space and RAM, doesn't overheat at all, unlocked, etc. It works perfectly and I know I won't be having problems with it.
Basically a perfect phone, no downsides.
BUT
I still miss the Flex 2 everyday, it was so different and fun to use.
Am I crazy?
Is there a similar phone with the same characteristics? (curved screen, oled)
The only phone that I'm interested is the new Motorola Razr, and MAYBE the Asus ROG Phone 2.
