Edit internal memory to add to phone storage? - General Questions and Answers

Is it possible to increase my (rooted 4.4.4) fake galaxy note 4's phone storage, by taking some storage from the internal memory? Is it possible via root, or ROM at all? I don't want apps2sd or anything like that.
I think the phone storage is smaller than listed in settings, and I can get less than a mb of storage on it. No downloads go to my SD card, even when the settings are right.
By increasing my phone storage, I can at least see what's wrong.
Thanks

You'll need to change the system partition, and I wouldn't recommend doing it..

Well, upon lengthy consideration, I think I still want to. Can you tell me a little more? Can I do this with the stock ROM? Where would I find a guide to do this?

I never actually did this, and it seems to me that this is device specific meaning that you will not find a universal method how to change system partition.
I am not by a pc now, so I can't make really any research.

Thanks, but xposed won't install. I think lots of stuff uses the phone storage. When deleting everything possible, I can get about 1mb space. I think the storage is much less than stated.

OK bro I think you have a option that is creat partition on SD card & use link2sd app to free internal memory but remember I am not responsible for kind of damage, try this at ur own risk...
For procedure check this post.....

Note- before do anything take backup sdcard.

Thanks. I didn't really want to do this, but thinking about it more, its probably the best solution. I will try when I next have time to play around with my phone.

is there a rom where i can use internal storage

Well, i have 2gb sd card with the phone and its not enough. i have another 3 gb which im not using but i cant use it. Any way to get it or use it?
thanks
No, and you cannot use the internal storage for anything other than apps. It was never intended for anything other than that. it is not like a Samsung device which has internal SDcard storage space. And no there is not a way to format or in anyway make it work for anything other than app storage and installation.
This has been covered many times, please do a search before posting next time.

you can still push stuff to it with adb (/data)
I have put some stuff there, the problem is many apps will not read anything but the sdcard. so the data may not be usable

Yeah, that is the issue, it is really not a storage space like /sdcard is.
It is really not usable in a normal sense, and 4GB of app space and data is a total waste.
And from what I have seen in the HK ICS rom, it is still not the same as having an internal SDcard space like Samsung and other manufacturers do.
Could you symlink a folder on it to /sdcard-ext or something.

You have to wait ICS releases. I'm using the leak and it works fine.
Now there are several versions have ICS leak, it is sure that OTA will coming in a few weeks. (except the AT&T ones, sorry)

[Q] Can't move apps with Link2SD

I have tried to move apps to sdcard with Link2SD and other similar apps. It fails and says that I can't move them because my device has a primary external storage which is emulated from the internal storage.
Here is a screenshot of the message
Howdy!
as far as I have found out (and been following this problem on and off since I got my plus a few months ago) there is no proper way to move apps to your SD card. Best solution (and the one I am using) is to partition your SD Card then use Link2SD to link apps on your SD. You can set it up to do so automatically for every new app you install. As for partitioning I found this guide the best since I'd never attempted it before but it works really well.

Well, my phone was rooted anyway but I think Link2SD needs it. As to why exactly it needs to be partitioned I can only tell you that when my card wasn't partitioned as suggested in the guide I linked then Link2SD wouldn't even offer to link the apps. I am no expert as I pointed out but this was a solution that worked for me. It may well be someone else found something better that doesn't require partitioning. To my knowledge doing things this way requires root AND the partitioned SD card.

Did you try Apps to SD? Ill be rooting very soon and see what happens. If none works then last stop would be to make partition.
Okay I did root my phone successfully. Still cant move apps. Now going to do this partition system. Hope it works !

Yeah, I tried Apps to SD as well but without success. You get exactly the message as the OP said here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42863865&postcount=2
Same goes for Link2SD however once you partitioned it at least offers you to link the apps. But like I said that only happened after I did the partitioning. Beforehand it would not even offer that.
I am not entirely sure what or why Samsung did what they did in kinda blocking the moving of apps to an external card but it it really blows considering that you only get a somewhat limited amount of storage to begin with.

Hello again brother. Same here. Before partitioning there was not any option to create link even.
I did the partitioning stuff did work. I can successfully transfer my apps into the ext2 partition i created. (Btw which partition format did you go with?)
How ever I believe folder mount is still a better option as it does not require you to create partitions and works directly such as you enter a brand new card without partition and move apps into card and then it links it. But the only drawback is you need to purchase the app :

Well ext4 didn't work for me idky though ext2 did and it worked. But creating partitions is pure junk and it would reduce the life and speed of your card (its something i believe) so I deleted the partitions and brought my card into original format.
And yes man Folder Mount is something we need ! It does exactly what both of us want. Simply move all the app data from internal memory to external memory and as soon as you move you have empty space on your internal storage and external storage is occupied. Its simple and very clear and easy to use. Just 3 clicks i believe and its done. And another good stuff is it will show you how much an app is occupying internal space and then moves it into SD card and also doesn't show important system apps to move as moving them creates problem.
There's a free version to try which would allow you to move 3 apps only and if you want more then buy the app for 2 Dollars.
Its developed by @madmack. Do check it out. The sad part for me is I dont have a credit card nor Paypal is available in my country
And i need this app badly !

why is this happening??

i have been unable to get to the bottom of it. really could use some help. this tablet is running cm10.2. only sees 4.59 of memory.... claims to be the total onboard memory. makes no sense to me. if cm10 takes up 3.5 then the total should still be 8 with system files taking up 3+gb. but this is not the case...
thank you in advance!!!
Seriously? Thread #3 with the same question?

For crying out loud... I gave you the answer. You didn't like it, but that's your problem. I also asked you (and anyone else) to provide any proof of more internal storage on the 8GB model. No response, as expected. If you somehow remember getting full 8GB on stock ROM, as opposed to what you are getting now, you were hallucinating.
Let me try again. There is TOTAL storage, which is 8GB. And there is USER-ACCESSIBLE storage, which is much less. Unless you go really hardcore, and start playing with non-standard partition sizes on your tablet, you will NOT get more than approx. 4.5GB available to you. It's a fact of life. Get over it. To better understand what I mean, open terminal console, and type "df" (without quotes). Check the total size of your internal sdcard partition (on stock, it's /storage/sdcard0, on CM it may be something else). This is the definitive answer to your question.
Me too dude, The box of the tablet, and on the back part says that is 8GB but is only 4,59GB. Why?
Because the storage divides in two the first part is for the system app, and system process. The other part is for your apps or other things.
This is not a problem it is normal on any device. Why do you need many storage?
Try to use FolderMount or Link2SD for your apps. FolderMount helped me a lot for the big games.

okay i am the type of cat who is able to admit when I am wrong... i am wrong!!! I am sorry about that because I could swear that when i had the stock rom in that it showed 8gb TOTAL memory but obviously less available memory. since I posted this thread I went back to stock just to prove myself wrong and again, you were right. it only shows 4.59gb which really is a surprise to me.
just so you know it's not that i didnt like your answer, its just that I really believed that i saw 8gb total. my bad dude.

Sorry, can't help you with this, because I am not a CM user, and, most importantly, I never used any storage swapping methods. One think I did try in the past was to use some app to mount specific folder(s) on external SD to present them as if it was an internal storage. Although it doesnt completely swap your int and ext storage, it works just fine in most cases (with some limitations). Basically, this is what Folder Mount is about (already suggested to you). I used DirectoryBind, which has long been abandoned, and doesn't work on newer Android versions. Many people are happy with Folder Mount, but you can also find other alternatives, like Super Mount from Lidroid (it's free, unlike Folder Mount). Look them up on Play Store, it might be a workable solution for you...

Rooting My Samsung?

Okay, so I'm in a lot of pain. I was having some serious trouble with my Samsung s4 and decided to hard reset it thinking my pictures and contacts were on my SD CARD. They weren't. And nothing was backed up to Google or my Verizon cloud. I contacted Verizon. They sent me to Samsung and vice versa. I know my files aren't permanently deleted. The feds could easily recover them you know? Those pictures meant a lot to me. So I desperately did research on how to recover my hard reset contacts and photos.. I downloaded multiple softwares that didn't work and I also came upon rooting my phone. Can someone please help me? Help me root my phone and recover my pictures? I don't want to unlock my bootloader and wipe my phone a second time. I sobbed like a two year old thinking they're gone forever.. :crying: :crying: :crying:

but it also talks about external memory. "External memory would allow you to use data recovery tools that scan for deleted files and return them to a usable state. These tools work because most operating systems don't go through and set all of those 1's and 0's to just 0's when you delete a file. Usually the operating system will just delete the reference pointer in the index that says that a file exists with such-and-such name and it's located at this position on the hard disk / memory location." Is there no way I can get this stuff back?
You have a Samsung, either your bootloader is unlocked or it isn't, in the case that it is unlocked you could go ahead and root and it probably wouldn't take much effort. Not much else we can tell you about rooting your phone without a model number though.

External Memory is SDCARD what you want is Internal Memory, and it's pretty hard if not impossible to regain the stuff back from Internal Memory.

This application is what you need https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/apps2sd-partition-sd-card-link-apps-to-t3122919. It allows you to link apps to your sd card ext4 partition. You have to re-partition your sdcard to two partitions. First as a normal FAT32 partition and other one as a EXT4 partition.

Well cheap class 10 sd card was easily enough for apps2sd linking. Haven't tested with adoptable storage but I believe it will work without any problem.
