I just got this a few days ago and I notice its lacking a lot. There is no development for it? No lollipop update either? Is there even root for it? What's going on? Should I swap it out for an s6 while im still within my 15 days of activation?
Not a lot of development for any note edge. Sorry. Sprint and att are the only 2 of the big 4 in the us updated. I havent tried to re root but i read it is the same process and doable. My bud has the t mobile and still waiting on the 5.0 update for his edge. Just wasnt a very well advertised phone. With the s6 edge doing so good the next note edge should take off a lot better and will have much more development. It is what it is man

The s6 edge was way over advertised, and opposite for the note. Which sucks because I don't think the s6 is beer in any way, shape, or form.
Id say stick with the Edge it has more features than the s6 in my opinion and development for the edge will pick up
I can't wait lol

Boy i sure hope so. I agree the note edge is superior from the s6 edge. S6 has a nice build and all and the built in wireless charging is a big plus for it. I just hope the next note versions dont go losing the removable back and micro sd slot. They got to get the wireless charging built in i would hope.

Wireless charging is easy to acquire though, the s6 will never have an s pen, removable battery, or sd slot.

I think you are better off getting the s6. The note 5 will released in in 5 months, and the resell value of the s6 will be greater than the note edge. Also once Samsung pay drops that will be a huge deal, better fingerprint scanner, camera, and screen. Yes you lose removable battery but I've swapped out my note 2,3,4 & edge battery probably a total of 10 times. You can completely charge the s6 in 80 minutes. As for sd card slot there's a ton of work arounds, get 128gb version, cloud, buy a portable keychain sd card. The s6 will get much more attention, the note edge was samsung prototype.... I'll tried you my mint condition note edge +100 for an s6 edge anyday

That makes no sense though, there's no realistic detail that makes the s6 better other than popularity. You can't even use the edges on the s6 got anything productive.

Exactly my thoughts! seems like Samsung went backwards with the S6, reminds me of a Google Nexus or dare I say Iphone, Samsung lost its key features on the S6 that made Samsung phones popular
Well, I have a week left on my 14 day trial with Verizon to swap out my note for something else. I really like it, but if there's something better out there I could be stuck with for a couple years.

The Verizon Note Edge is unlikely to see any development, from what I've seen. The locked bootloader is apparently a real problem.
An important thing to keep in mind here is that the Note Edge sold 600,000 units worldwide. The S6 and the S6 Edge sold 20 million units in preorders alone.
There just aren't enough of these devices in the hands of people knowledgeable enough to develop for them. It's sad, but there isn't much that can be done about it.

From what I understand it was 630,000 units over 2 months ago. Due to quite a few reasons though. Mainly, it was meant to be an expensive limited edition device not available to too many areas. Also because the regular note 4 had sold 4.5 million devices in less than a month, right before the edges release. I think we'll see the edge pickup big time, because everyone is getting familiar with the s6 edge, they're going to eventually realize, the note edge is a bigger, more functional version of that, with an s pen and a fully usable edge. I think it's going to be one of those devices that become more popular once people realize what it is.

They should sell the Note Edge as a "limited edition" and number them! :good: It will either hold its value better because it is unique and limited or it will be so limited as to have no interest at all...

Is there anyone who had either S6 or M9 before the Note edge?
If yes why did you chose the Note edge and do you regret it?
Sent from my HTC One M9 using XDA Free mobile app
I have had the M9 and S6 edge, and I keep finding myself going back to the Note edge, M9 there wasn`t anything really spectacular about it it was good phone, but nothing special about it, S6 edge it was ok it, its fast, but but the edge screen on it is limited to what you can use it for, also I love having the ability to have removable battery and micro sd card , and the edge part on the Note Edge is way more usable for me, has tools bar for stop watch and etc. and you customize the edge bars, can have different edge bars with your apps organized the way you want them. I just sold my T-mobile S6 on ebay and bought another Note Edge brand new on swappa, the S6 edge its a really nice phone, but I think the Note edge is a better all around phone, but it all depends on what your going to use it for.
The camera was a let down on the M9. Personally I liked the size and the features as compared to the s6. And the edge will leave you wanting. I pine for the note 3 but muscle memory made me re-activate the note edge once again.
And you are not afraid the Note Edge 2 will make the actual Note Edge "old"?
I had an S6 for 2 weeks, while I loved the camera I hated the absence of BT autoconnect, what I love in my M9 is that Car app is my daily car audio now!
Dunno if the Note Edge has the same trouble as S6 for BT autoconnect?

I dont have BT issues.. i stay connected to my lg infinums. They really are awesome.. i also have a HK Onyx that i use all the time.. According to Samsung, the Note Edge is already old and forgotten. As for the note edge 2. Im seriously disappointed with how they went about eliminating the expandable memory and the removable battery. I am also disappointed with the lack of development and updates.. i seriously will consider this phone to be my last samsing if they go the same route with the edge 2. I believe the 2 last great devices that left the samsung plant were the Note Edge and the Note 3. Innovation can go only so far before we start to realize that we dont need it.

Geez I will keep my M9 then!
I had the S6 and didn't like it
Hey guys I'm going to preorder my Phone today.
I'm just so indecisive on which one I should get. I went from the Note 3 to iPhone 6 Plus. I want to get back to my Sammy but I don't know which one to get.
What bothers me about the edge is the, well, edge part. It's bigger yet I feel like the sharp corners don't give u a good grip. On the positive side it's a bigger display.
The regular S7 looks to be much better of a feel on the hands.
What do u guys think? Am I being too hard on the edge or do some of you feel the same way.
Oh one last thing. I feel it would be a lot easier to break the edge screen.
Thanks

Well sounds like you want the regular S7.
I had my hands in both and both feel comfortable in hand but the S7 feels better in my opinion. Don't really care for the edge.

im in the same vote as you i preordered both devices , i have the reg s6 atm , the edge never apealed to me , i though tit looked cool but as for usefullness i find the edge gimmicky however seeing as how the reg s7 is curved on the back already and me wanting a larger screen and bigger battery i am taking the plunge and going edge version for this s7 upgrade , i always use a flygrip on the case of any device i have so holding it inst a problem . and the edge features can be disabled if needed.
Thank you both for your inputs. I'm gonna order the S7 non edge. Enjoy your devices guys.

Hit up BestBuy and give them both a try and see which feels better, S7 Edge might feel like a bad grip because of the screen but it isn't, you can also add a case and get a better grip no worries.

Exactly, I was settled for the S7 but then I gave them a try at BB and liked the S7 Edge better cause of the looks, bigger battery and the screen is bigger but doesn't feel as big as a 6 inch phone.
Well guys I completely fell off the wagon. I ended up getting the Note 5 32GB instead. I went to the T-Mobile store and felt much happier using the Note than the S7 or S7 Edge.
Don't get me wrong I was much impressed with the S7 but before leaving to an iPhone I was a note 3 user. Probably one of my favorite devices of all time to be honest. Anywho the important part is that im back with Samsung and Android.

With the current ROM and Kernel my battery life is great IMO
I had the edge and I returned it for the s7 and I'll tell you why. It's basically the only thing that bothered me... The edge function is nice, but the edge screen and it's shortcut thing has 0 use for any other app at all, and it makes the other apps really weird looking to me. Instagram for instance, the picture is warped around both sides and drove me crazy. Nothing else is meant to be viewed with 10 percent of the screen warped on the sides. Facebook the same thing. Even some buttons like the like button or whatever would be half on the bent edge, so you would have to hit them on the corner and it just bothered the crap out of me. That's just my thoughts obviously, but I couldn't deal. It was such a relief to have the s7 screen after that.
I have had both versions and US (Tmo) and International. I have to Say International (Exynos) regular is the one to go with. It's simply amazing ! I got better battery and gaming performance and ......... NO carrier BLOATWARE ! SM-G930F is the model number I have. Also It's rootable (not sure as of right now if US models are) but in future they may be as well.
Good luck !
I watched a lot of videos and read a lots of articles and reviews before I decided that I want a new Samsung phone and I thought that S7 would be the right choice for me. But then when I went to the local store and put my hands on both of S7 and S7E I just completely changed my mind for S7E.
Initially I had only one concern for S7E that it is too big but it is turned out tahat actually it is not as big as and having edges making this phone really nice and easier to use plus it has bigger battery than S7.
So my suggestion would be if you have Samsung store somewhere around just go in and physically touch both of the phones and play around a bit this way you can make proper decision. No one else can make it for you.
Good luck with your choice! :good:
Hey guys, been a long time XDA user, looking for input. I have never owned a Samsung device so I am completely new here. I came from a LG G4 that I loved it but wireless charging just melts down after 30-60 days and starts refusing to charge wirelessly. After 6 replacements I am here. My last one also had wireless connection issues.
The S7 Edge looked to be the best 1-to-1 match with screen size/features so thats what I had my mind on. Verizon recommended we swap for a different device and offered me a Note 5 64gb (because of no SD storage). So the Note 5 should be here in a few days.
BUT my mind was focused on the S7 Edge so I just went out and bought a S7 Edge on impulse, full price (thinking I would sell the Note 5 to recoop my money).
After seeing and playing with both, now I am kind of torn. The rounded edges actually feel nice to scroll off of. I think the edge apps have already lost my interest. I used to use "Side Bar" as a quick launcher and eventually just stopped using it.
Being new to Samsung, I semi know about the SPen and some of its features. The Note 5 is also the same width as my G4, so size isn't a factor here. In fact because of the rounded edges, the S7 Edge feels narrower/smaller than my LG G4.
Is there really anything the Note 5 can't do that the S7 Edge can? Not really concerned with waterproof or SD card. How is the Note 5 processor? The SD820 is probably a little faster but both are plenty fast IMO.
I'd be interested in hearing any FORs and AGAINSTs. I can keep either device right now, what would you choose?

I ended up going with the S7 Edge because of the faster processor, better low light shots with the camera and larger battery. Surprisingly I like the curved screen witch is something I thought I wouldn't. The two phones are top notch so you can't really go wrong with either. My wife has my Note 5 because I really don't want to let it go and she likes it so it makes little sense to get rid of it. The S-Pen isn't of much use for me but I do like the larger screen and excellent camera. Depending on what the Note 6 turns out to be I might go with that but for now it's the edge for me.
Yeah for me it really boils down to pen and screen. I am kind of leaning toward keeping the Note 5 and returning the 7E. I just didn't know if I would lose any software features like themes or something.
I am finding my palms are also tapping the screen and doing stuff with the S7E when I am typing or browsing. I have a hard time holding it without the screen going crazy. I just switched hands and it posted this and opened my Messenger chat head. Lol.
to me expandable storage is big. I have Note 5, i am waiting for Note 6 with expandable storage to get. I would say the s-pen is good but not a big deal. I do like taking notes with s-pen.
Unless s-pen is a must, i think sd card and water resistant is big deal for everyday use.
32gb has always been fine for a mobile. I complained about no SD storage though, which is why they gave me the 64gb version.
The waterproofing is cool but I don't plan on having it in water. Underwater pics are cool though. I have a hauwei watch for pool fun.

Themes will still be there, the only things you lose are the S-Pen related apps. I see what you mean about the accidental screen taps. I haven't used a case in a couple of days and it's pretty annoying especially when I'm trying to take a picture and open up the gallery. I had to return my Otterbox commuter because it kept ripping off my Zagg screen protectors. Hopefully my new case will be better when I get it tomorrow. It sounds like the Note is a better choice for you. I can always switch with my wife if I want.
I just wanted to chime in about picking between the note 5 and s7 edge. When I bought the note 5 last year, I had to live with no sd card and no removable battery. I can fast charge wireless and hard line as well. I don't really use the s pen as much as before. My previous phone, the note 3 i did. I dunno really, cause my wants and needs are different than everyone else. It some time for me to actually LOVE my new note 5, because I was used to having sdcard/removable battery on the note 3. The build quality is very nice on both phones. All metal, beautiful glass and both have marshnallow. My brother actually has a s7, he just got it a few ago and I bought my note 5 last year November.
I used to be a flash aholic on the note 3. We had recovery, roms and root. So after 2 years of being spoiled, I had to finally let go and move from that kind of want or need. Does that make sense? I realzied that I had give up the flashing game, because of the devices getting more difficult to Root. Specificllay Verizon and the Note series phones. So I when it was time to upgrade last year, I gave up the note 3, decided that I can live with the no sd card and non removable battery and said hello to pure awesome sexiness design of the note 5.
Nowadays, I dont find myself waiting on roms to be dropped. Constantly pressing f5 f5 f5 f5 and refresh to see when it dropped. But that was my choice. No more living with compromises, because a rom worked with this app and sor of didnt work with there other apps. If the s7 edge is constantly on your mind and boggling your curisoity, why not get one? From the few days I was able to play with my brother's s7. It feels nice in the hand, Smooth nice edges, good low light camera fast and snappy processor makes it smooth to operate.
Since I gave up on flashing roms, I just wanted a phone that I can use social media, so I can keep contact with my girlfriend. Facebook, instragram, snapchat, twitter, facebook messnger and facebook videocat oh and make phone calls/send text messages to her as well. I found that my note 5 can do these things with no problem what so ever. Well, sorry for being so long and best of luck on picking between the note 5 and s7 edge.
Yea I am thinking of keeping the note5 and returning the 7E. Memory and waterproofing aren't important to me. The Edge is starting to drive me crazy because you can't hold on to it without touching the edge screen. This causes other inputs to be unresponsive.

I might be returning mine too and go back to the Note 5. I got my new case today and this one is screwing with my screen protector too. This is my 2nd edge and never had this much screen protector problems on the many phones I have had. Totally frustrating. With that said I think you are better off with your Note 5...
I owned a LG G2x that had a curved screen like the Edge7 and remember that the screen protector issue was a big one. I stopped using screen protectors years ago though. With the Edge7 I would be cautious but I never planned on using a SP.

Keep your money mate! If you were coming form an older phone I'd say make the leap, but you should be set for at least another year.
It totally depends on your circumstances. If this and if that, only you know those answers ..

It really depends. There is more to the switch than just the processor. Antutu performance wise its about 25 ranks higher than the S7 Edge in overall performance. My roommate updated from the S7 Edge and likes it and I have both and prefer the S8+. If processor is the only factor for you then you can hold off for a while maybe window shop at your local store to see if you like it better.
bigger screen and the battery life are my two big favorites over the S7E. The fact the S8+ is also far less laggy than the S7E (which has to be a software problem since the Note 7 ran like a raped ape in comparison to the S7E and they shared the same processor/ram)
battery life is nearly double for me. Which is worth it alone.
All I know is my wife's s7edge is running like crap right now. Even cleared up some memory, moved all kinds of stuff over, reset phone and still slow and the battery life since nougat is horrendous. Weird, right when the new phone comes out.
I have tested the s8 and from when I had my s7edge it's definitely faster and smoother, but it's nowhere near the speed of my Mate 9. Should work for my wife, but not me.
Seems like battery reviews are decent, but so where our s7's when we 1st got them.

Looks like nobody has mentioned that if you LOVED the way Note 7 felt in your hands with symmetrical curves front and back then you will be right at home with the S8/S8+. It's every bit as sleek as the Note 7 was. Much speedier and actually more sleek due to not having any buttons on the front.... Only negative I've got is no s-pen. Will upgrade to Note 8 as soon as it's out . Once again, if this will be enticing enough on top of what everybody else has said, will be all up to you

Thanks for the replies guys. I actually utilize soc for linux packages and such so any performance boost is good. One reason I was hesitant is the 8890 still ticks well. Also yeah if the note 8 is coming this year I may get that one. I love my s7e but I miss the note. The S pen makes a good mouse too.
How's the s8 durabilty? I already shattered my s7 edge in december and the insurance gave me a brand new one. I already wasted 100 on two tempered glass because of case incompatibility. I would run no screen protector but I'm wary lol.
Also my s7e internal memory is running out since most of my apps can't be moved to sd card lol.
Idk it doesn't seem that big of an upgrade, that's why I asked.
Until the Note 8 comes out there is zero on the market to replace what the Note 7 performed. Our Note 7's where mini PC's and I agree the S-pen had developed over the years to become a mouse. I want a Note 8 and am looking forward to its eventual introduction. I think the Note 7 is a legend of a mobile and NOT for the negative reason but its positive capabilities. I have never missed a mobile with the exception of the Note 7.

After purchasing a s8 from Tmobile by means of an insurance claim ($175) plus jump, something dawned on me. All the new none hardware features the s8 flaunts had been running and running solid on my s6 edge plus for over 2 months and were no longer awe inspiring. After 2 days with my new sleek looking beast I instantly knew no way did I want to pay $800 for a phone I basically had for 2 months, with a locked bootloader, and doomed by Samsungs slow update rollouts. After owning all Sammy phones since the s2 I traded in the s8 for for the LG V20. I must say the trade off has been absolutely worth every bit of the $300 dollars I saved and more. The only advantage Ive seen of the s8 is the snappy 835. Yes I didn't say the screen because ive had burn in with every phone i ever had. Everyting else(that matters to homosapiens) is pretty much advantage LG. I cant belive Ive been as much a fanboy as the I$hit apple fan boys all these years. I will miss my favorite devs from through the years and you guys who showed love to a noob. My bags are packed, Im off to the other side and without a note 8 in sight no plans of returning.

Farewell, I'd do the same but for universal usability of Samsung Pay, and that I have to stop phone whoring, 8+ is not a bad phone to hang with
But I'm excited for you [emoji106]

I went from a Note5 to Note7 and then for obvious reasons ended up with a S7e. The move from N7 to S7e was like going from a BMW to a Chevy Impala with the S7e being much more similar to my Note5 than Note7. I can't even imagine comparing a S8 to a S6. I'm getting a Note8 but moved to a S8+ in the interim because I just couldn't handle the S7e and how outdated it felt; especially after my brief stint with a N7.. I can't imagine comparing a S8 to a S6. But to each their own.

Not comparing but the s6 edge plus does have a 5.7 screen and I was using the s8 port for months with all features working so there was no newness about the s8 for me besides the smoothness. The note 8 is where its at though.

You can put the 580HP V8 engine from a 2017 COPO Camaro in to a 2015 V6 stripper. What you'll have is a two-year old V6 stripper with another car's engine. For me and I'm assuming quite a few here the annual move to the next generation flagship is about the sum of the parts not one particular feature or single piece of s/w. After using it for a while now I think the S8 (I have a S8+) is Samsung's greatest work to date. Even with some of its issues. There are people who for whatever reason can't or won't justify moving to the next big thing. That's OK but don't try to use whatever rationale supported that decision on others. Value is in the eye of the beholder.

I stay for the gearvr, but the S8+ is a very nice phone if you have an unlocked BL. Had an unlocked BL not been available from Samsung , I would have gone elsewhere. In the future I'll likely buy the standalone VR and buy another manufactures phone because they do seem like they are trying to move away from an unlocked BL.
All the while too, I'm waiting for google to put out a better asop hardware phone together featuring an amoled display and external sd card slot, they have always be behind the 8-ball with that, the best phone they ever put out with the S4 GPE for obvious reasons.
I have an old S6 Edge and the software, on the latest 7.0 is snappy and almost the same as my S8+, besides bixby and some other featured. By no means do they compare, but with the new software lately, even old phone seem to be zippy. My old Note 4, which hasn't gotten 7.0 is slow to a crawl. The new TouchWiz helps a great deal.
As for the lack of an unlocked bootloader and root, it is a bummer. But it cannot be discounted that this is the best phone out right now, in almost every aspect
I made the mistake of buying an S6. I jumped from it asap. I went BACK to a Note 4.
When the Note 7 came out, I bought one ASAP. I ended up with an S7e and wish I had just gone back to my Note 4 instead.
Now I have an S8, and am a little more happy, but i'll be getting a Note 8 day one.

I think you'll be waiting a very long time....
Google would rather you use their storage services than have the convenience of an SD Card.

Funny thing, I had a V20 which was absolute ****. I purchased the Exynos S8+ and I've never been so happy! I've never owned a Samsung before because I HATED the button layouts (the back was switched with recent) and just over all screamed cheap to me. Now with this phone.. The best!
