New to me tablet and I'm new to rooting/etc.
Factory tablet on 4.1.1, build 10.4.2.20-20121228
I downloaded and ran the Asus unlock utility, then ran motochopper to root. I then loaded TWRP 2.2.2.0 (I realized the mistake later). Made stock backup using twrp ok. Wiped cache/dalvik/etc and tried to recover to CM.10.0.0. Boots to cyanogenmod logo and just sits and spins. I can reboot back into recovery and restore from backup ok.
I realize now that I've loaded an early version of twrp, would that affect the cm bootup? If so, how do I upgrade twrp? Or should I try CM10.1 exp using twrp 2.2.2.0?

I can see you are on the 4.1 BL. I would suggest upgrading to the 4.2 bootloader and the using the most recent versions of TWRP and CM. You would do that by flashing the stock 4.2 Asus firmware, then the latest TWRP from their website with -42 and then the latest cyanogen mod ROM which is compatible with that bootloader.

First off, thank you for the assistance. Here are the steps I believe I should take. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
1. Download and install latest 4.2 bootloader from Asus= US_epad-10.6.1.27.5
2. Would I need to download and install the unlocker from Asus? = Unlock_v8 for 4.2JB
3. Download and install TWRP for 4.2= TWRP 2.6.3.0-tf300t-4.2 blob
4. Then I should be able to run any of the CM 10.0.0 and up on the 4.2 bootloader, right?

Lots of ppl are having problems with the V8 unlocker. Since you are already on 4.1, you could just unlock now with the V7 tool.
1. Unlock with V7 tool (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949758)
2. Flash Latest Asus Stock (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949758)

4. Flash Latest CM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2413878)

Ok, been reading until my eyes are bleeding.
From what I've read, Motochopper doesn't work for 10.6.1.27.x versions, so I would have to load 10.6.1.15.3. I should be able to download it and unzip it the first time on my pc. Then transfer it to the root directory of the tablet and run TWRP to install the .zip file. This would overwrite everything and bring it up to 4.2. I would then run the unlocker_v8 and install twrp for 4.2 using adb. If all that works, I should be rooted and unlocked and allowed to install CM 10 and above.
Please, anyone, check me on this. And thanks for the help.

Oh sorry, I thought you meant that it had failed to unlock and flash.
Flashing a stock ROM will not relock your bootloader. Asus doesn't want people relocking their bootloader .
I'm not sure why you are using motochopper if you are going to install a custom ROM anyways. Almost all custom ROMs have the SU binaries in them.
Once you have unlocked your tablet, you will never need to run another unlocker, so dont worry about v8. The NvFlash backups need you to be on the 10.6.x.x bootloader, so you would flash the stock ROM then do the nvflash procedure.

I'm not sure if you can flash the stock from the TWRP, to be safe I'd fastboot it from a computer. Once you flash the stock, it will upgrade the bootloader and erase TWRP. You would use the install command.
Success so far! I got it updated to 4.2.1 /10.6.1.27.5 using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35294881&postcount=1.
Hi,
I was on a rooted Oneplus One having the TWRP recovery. I got the notification for the latest Incremental OTA ZNH2KAS254 update. I know that its not possible to install this incremental update if you are rooted and are using TWRP as your recovery. I read some of the posts and it was suggested there to unroot the phone, install the stock recovery and then try to install the OTA. I downloaded the stock cyanogen recovery and flashed it, which removed the TWRP recovery. I then unrooted my phone using the option in the SuperSU app.
Now i have an OPO which is having stock recovery and is unrooted. When i try to install this incremental update, i am not able to get through. The update goes through the installation process and ends up booting in the stock recovery with an exclamation mark on the cyanogen robot. I then decided to factory reset the OPO completely by wiping everything that was there on the phone.
Even then i am not able to install the incremental OTA and land up with the same error as mentioned above.
What am i doing wrong? Could someone please help and let me know how to get this incremental update installed? I would also like to install TWRP and root the device once i am done installing the incremental OTA.
Cheers,
Gokul
You're in the OPX section. You have OnePlus One, right?
A mod can move it?
If you are on Oxygen OS, I think you have to flash the full rom zip disponible here :
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/oxygenos-2-1-4-for-the-oneplus-one.425544/
If Cyanogen, I don't know.

Saurav,
Thanks for your message.
Since i do not have TWRP installed, i believe i would have to flash the latest signed zip using ADB. Am i right?
Secondly, would it be possible for me to flash the TWRP zip using stock recovery?
Cheers,

Yes, you can sideload latest signed zip or can even flash from stock recovery.

No you need to flash it white stock recovery

Do you have the ze552kl or the ze520? I can try to do it for the ze552 since I have that model.
@Rasque
If you can flash with stock recovery, you can flash with twrp. It has been discussed many times, and I flashed Oreo with twrp so I am speaking from personal experience.

what do you mean by "put room"? If you don't want to unlock your boot loader, you can still flash the stock unmodified rom through stock recovery.
If you don't want to unlock, you can try booting (not flashing) twrp through fastboot and then flash magisk. I've never tried it so I'm not sure if it'll work.

Yes, you can flash it with twrp. Edit the updater script, it works fine. I don't think I've ever used the stock recovery to flash anything, went straight to twrp and never looked back.

Yes, you can. No need to edit script or anything but before reboot you need to flash magisk or it wont boot.
You don't need any kind of recovery to install this update. Just download the rom file from asus website, put it in the main folder of your zenfone3 (remember the main folder, not the downloads. if you download the update from your phone it will directly go to downloads folder, so you have to move the update file to main folder) and in couple of seconds you will get a notification that says new update found. And it will update itself. You don't have to flash anything with any kind of recovery.
Only thing to pay attention is when you are downloading the update from official website which is HERE choose the World Wide (WW) version.

So I unlocked by Bootloader and Rooted my OP6, the question I have is will the OTA updates be installed without any problems or will I have to install it manually?
Also when I install twrp (I have not installed yet) how will I need to update my phone through OTA?
Sorry if this is a noob question because the last time I rooted and flashed roms the software support was over so I never had any OTA updates.
Thanks
It will download the update but it most probably will download the Full 1.4GB ZIP
Meaning it will install the full rom and not the small update package.
It will install normally to the other slot and after reboot you should be updated.
This should work just fine with TWRP because it updates your other slot within Android, not in recovery.
After update, reboot phone, then reboot to TWRP and install Magisk!
I updated while being rooted and TWRP installed. Just download the update, then reflash twrp and root and everything works fine.
So if u want update your system but don't need TWRP you can just download OTA with system updater and install it.
If you want magisk don't reboot! Open magisk and press install and install to second slot. Then reboot. You will have an updated system with working magisk!

So the only hitch to get an official incremental OTA update, is the root? Unlocked bootloader and TWRP installed doesn't cause any trouble?
If you just remove the root and then check for the update, evrything gonna be fine, am I right?
But how does it work this "slot a" "slot b"? What does it mean? After an update will your OP6 get 2 roms in the same time? The new and the previous? What happen after an update and the reboot? Have you to delete the old rom?
Thx for the patience...

If I'm not wrong, on a rooted device OTA installs a full rom. On a not-rooted phone OTA installs just the incremental update.
I only unlocked the bootloader to prepare for TRWP and root (So no TWRP and root yet) and it tells me it will download full update.

Because I was not sure I wanted root again there are always apps that even with Magisk hide won't work.
But just to make sure I prepared by unlocking bootloader so if I decide to go for TWRP and root my data and storage won't get wiped which would mean starting all over again and losing app-data.
So, if I update from a ROM rooted with TWRP, will not the user data be deleted? Should we just root again and install the TWRP?
I had rooted 5.1.5 with TWRP and Magisk. I just downloaded the full package, copied it to phone storage. Then went to system update, update locally, picked the file and it ran the update.
However after reboot and update complete I lost TWRP and root. So I went to fastboot, booted the official TWRP (fastboot boot twrp.img). Then flashed the official TWRP and Magisk for root, rebooted and all was good again.
I'm pretty sure there's an easier way of doing this but this worked for me.

Yeah probably but it has a lot of mixed reviews and this takes me 10 minutes more or so oh well. I'll rather do it like this It's not like we get a new update every week
maybe to help you all
me: 5.1.5, unlocked bootloader, unofficial TWRP from thread by wuxianlin, magisk 16.4
my procedure was to change to official twrp which can be done easily by
downloading the twrp installer from official site, put to internal storage
flash twrp official installer
still in recovery, select reboot: recovery
flash magisk
boot system
now download full 5.1.6 signed flashable zip
recovery: flash 5.1.6
reflash recovery
reboot recovery
flash magisk
boot system
now you have rooted 5.1.6 with official twrp and magisk, no wipe needed
Hey guys im really unhappy about the newest firmware. It isnt as smooth as it used to be and I would like to downgrade the firmware. I have already downloaded the 9.5.5 firmware. I didn't read anywhere in this thread an indication of your bootloader status. Are you already unlocked?
- if you are not unlocked, then you will need to unlock it to gain root and TWRP. And unlocking the bootloader automatically wipes your internal storage.
- if you are unlocked, then you can proceed with installing root, and TWRP. As other users have posted, you can downgrade with a simple flash of 9.5.5 over 9.5.7... if they both share the same month's security patch.
