Hello!
Just got my g2x today and i love it. However, when I'm connected to wifi, 4G is on at the same time! When i'm downloading an app, i see the arrows light up which mean its using my 4G data. Anyone have problem with this? I turned it off to prevent using my data for now.
Edit:
Working Solution:
Okay what I was experiencing was Wifi and 4g on at the same time. Also, the wifi doesnt work.
It is due to My Account, however, you cannot delete it.
You must download "Bloat Freezer" Its a buck.
Freeze My Account. Easy to do. I had two My Account installed for some reason so i froze both.
Restarted.
WIFI WORKS!!!
Wifi off, 4g Turns on. Wifi on, 4g turns off.
Ya I had the same issue except I was on 2g. I noticed it was very slow so I disabled and re-enabled wi-fi and it worked fine after that.
Sigh.. now wifi doesn't work. Happened twice already. Works on my Nexus. Its happening to a few people on the T-Mobile forum. Becareful when you buy. Hopefully its software problem... ****ing lg

WIFI
Hello,
When I turn WIFI on and connect to my router, my 4g turns off.
Try turning on WIFI wait for it to connect and then open a browser session.
Works here.

I had this same issue and I found out the cause. First off, if you skip the initial setup and set it up later, you will never fix the issue. Particularly when downloading from the Market. You need to go to Settings/Privacy and do a factory reset and make sure you set up your Google account on the initial setup screen.
Second, make sure that your phone is not using any data before turning wifi on. If it is, let it stabilize for a few moments.
If this does not work, turn on wifi calling. Its better voice quality anyway and you don't get dropped calls.
This is obviously just a software bug that needs a patch to fix. I've seen far worse problems out of the gate with phones than software bugs as small as this.
I did set up my account at initial setup. Internet works on nexus s perfectly. I'm using 4g right now to type this. Lame....

I have actually seen this same problem on my Nexus One many times so I'm not sure this isn't just an Android issue, not a G2x issue.
My cellular data connection disappears when I'm on wifi. I use wifi often and never seen both active. My N1 was the same way.
When I disconnect from wifi, the data has to reconnect. Saves battery I guess.

I have two My Account running also. I'll try to root and freeze it.
Wow the 4G/2G goes off right away after I endtasked My Account, leaving Wifi icon only instead of both. So, it is really the My Account app. Thanks tony.
i second the "my account" advice. i used titanium backup to remove it (i had 2 instances) and wifi seems to be working fine now.
My Account doesn't fix for me. I think it is the Market app. Whenever I have both Wifi/4G, I endtask the Market and the 4G icon disappears right away. 4G icon comes back when I open up Market again.

Market did the same to me, but it stopped after I turned off mobile data and turned it back on. I think the MAIN problem is 'My Account'

I completely removed the My Account through Titanium Backup and still have problem.

Exact same thing happened to me. I exchanged my G2X in-store and powered it up, skipping the setup to make sure everything was working real quick and the Wi-Fi was being wonky until I did a factory reset on it and did the setup.
"My Account" is still running

the reason this does not work for some people is BECAUSE "My Account" (version 1.0)
is still running
even if you Freeze it with Titanium Backup it still runs
"Advanced Task Killer" does not list it so can not be killed with that
and can not be killed in the default android task manager
Bloat Freezer MAY be able to truly Freeze this program but i can not get the program to find out :-(
I'm overdrawn on my bank account right now buying this damn phone
Titanium Backup says it's frozen BUT if you reboot and go into your default task manager you'll see it started up and is running again.. with no way to kill it.
look if you don't believe me
Default task manager:
Settings>Applications>Manage Applications> "click running at the top" >scroll down to "My Account"
see it's running (and you thought TB froze it)
so my question is HOW to fracken kill this program with out paying a dollar. so Titanium Backup can freeze it properly
OR Just kill it
i don't mind killing it every boot if Titanium Backup can not freeze it properly
i just need a way to kill it
My work around solution is to turn on WiFi calling
BUT i don't want to do this
i paid 500+ dollars for this damn phone
i should not have to turn WiFi calling on JUST to run the Market and the web on WiFi
(sometimes it effects web surfing)
.

did you check your running apps ?
I'm just wondering if it is listed there
.
I didn't start most of these apps and yet they are still running when I check. Some of them I can understand, like the market related ones may be checking for updates, but the Sportacular, Shazam, and Google+ were not even touched. Any ideas?
Most web dependant apps that have network access permission will start up if they detect a wifi connection.
Coming from the ground up
I wish there was a way to turn that off, it's annoying.
Dear community, please help me. I'm going insane over this issue...
In my town there are several free & open WiFi spots to which you can connect without password. My problem is that this free WiFi is also within reach from my apartment and I want to make my phone & tablet to prefer my domestic closed&encrypted WiFi. I'm perfectly aware of the possibility to set WiFi-priorities. Problem is: those are only used when searching for a new connection. If my devices are connected to the public WiFi, they will never switch to my private one unless the connection breaks or I disable & enable WiFi in Android.
Right now, my rather silly "workaround" is to always delete the public WiFi from the list of known WiFis when I'm at home and re-add it when I go outside. But this procedure is getting quite annoying. I want Android to use this WiFi, just not when I'm at home...
I can't be the only one with this problem. Is there any way? Root and/or Xposed based solutions would be okay too....
I already tried the app "WiFi Prioritizer" from Google Play and it came pretty close to what I was looking for, unfortunately its background process was killing my battery.
What version of Android your phone and what the tablet has?
Στάλθηκε από το GT-I8190 μου χρησιμοποιώντας Tapatalk
Currently my Samsung i9100 runs AOSP NeatROM (Kitkat 4.4.4) and my Nexus 7 (2013) runs CleanROM (Lollipop 5.0.2).
It shouldn't matter though. I'm looking for some kind of universal solution that could work on any Android version... :-/
From what I have read and understood, your problem is that when you want to connect to a specific network (your home network) you can't because your device scans and connects to the '' free'' ones simply because you were connected to them before or you are still connected to one. From what I know and also have worked for me, is to simply tap on the network you want to connect each time(an analogue should pop up and ask whether to ''forget' the tapped network or to connect to it if you are already connected to another one.). Also I don't know if a module exists for this purpose on xposed framework.
Maybe there's another way to do it, but since I don't have bought the app (it's called IF BY IFTTT) I can't tell if it does or doesn't do what you want. What it does is that makes selected actions automatically by running in the background. I think that it can do almost ''anything'' (like to upload the latest photo you took from gallery to Instagram without your actions).
I hope I helped
No no, I can connect to my home network manually, that's not the problem.
My problem is that Android doesn't do it automatically, when it is within reach and the phone is still connected to another (the free) network.
What Android SCHOULD do is automatically drop the connection to the open Wifi, as soon as my higher priority home network is within reach.
I didn't said that you can't connect to your home network, I simply said that it doesn't seems to do it automatic. I have also prioritised my network preferences and still my phone doesn't connect to the first one if it is not disconnect from the other (by the way the two networks I have tried it to are my home ones). In conclusion in my opinion this option is where you want to connect first, not for changing the connection automatically based on the received signal(although it does if you completely lost the signal to the connected source). Probably in your case the free Wi-Fi is close enough to you and your phone or tablet doesn't disconnect from it which in my opinion is perfectly fine since my phone does exactly the same.
Oh sorry, maybe I misunderstood you before.
But yes, you summarized it completely correct. Only that this behavior is not perfectly fine for me, as I'm sick and tired of being connected to open, slow and unencrypted connection at home
I have the impression that Android's WiFi management is pretty bad
You can try the app that I mentioned earlier but I am not sure if will do what you want. I suggest get in touch with the developer and ask him. I am happy I helped.
PS.1 If I helped don't forget to use the thanks button as it helps me and lets community know that I have contributed.
PS.2 I don't take credit for the app, I just suggest it because I think it may work.
Have fun
Thanks for your help, I will try the app later today, it sure looks interesting. My only fear is that it will be a battery killer.
EDIT: This app didn't really do the trick for my needs... I'm back to always deleting the open WiFi out of the list of known WiFis... Too bad that there doesn't seem to be a good way to do what I need
i am having an issue that i cannot figure out and i am hoping someone can help. i have a galaxy s6 through Bell and it is completely stock and i have not modified it in any way. i am having an issue where some apps, but not others, will not download data unless i am on wifi. i do have some apps that have background data restricted but i am having issues when the apps are in the foreground and are actively being used. i have checked to make sure that there are no data limits or restrictions blocking data, i have full lte signal and i have tried toggling between lte and 3g with the same results.
i have used the phone for 5 weeks at least and for the first 3 weeks all was good until this issue crept up and i had to do a hard reset. i started from scratch and reset the phone and all was good for another 2 weeks and now it is an issue again. as an example, i open the play store app and it loads up the icons and i can use lte and load all info and pics, etc, but when i try to download a new app or update an existing one it will indicate that it is trying to download but nothing happens. i can switch to the browser and it will open pages but when i switch back to the play store it says that background data is disabled when it is actually not.
today i have also had issues with google music where it will allow me to play radio stations over lte just fine sometimes and other times the icons will be greyed out and it will not allow the radio stream to open unless i switch to wifi. the settings are set up to allow me to stream over data, etc so it should be working.
i have had many android devices in the past and am usually able to figure this stuff out but i am stumped on this one. i tried searching and did not find anything. any help would be appreciated.

Did you check to see if power saver is set to on? Turn it off
If it's not that, check under settings > data usage and make sure "set mobile data limit" is OFF
Thanks but neither of those is the issue. Some apps will work while others will not. Gmail will get push email but I cannot download apps or stream music in play music. Frustrating
Disabling background data will simply stop the app using mobile data to do things in the background. I'd imagine the app recognises streaming as "background data".
I would turn off disable background data on the effected apps as the setting does not improve battery and has very little effect on data used.
I will try that and see. What confuses me is that the phone has been great for a few weeks and suddenly this issue comes back and I have not changed any settings from one day to the next
Hi,
Wondering if anyone has run into the following issue with their Pixel. My phone is an international model (G-2PW4200) and I bought it exactly a month ago.
The issue is this: I seem to never be able to download any decent size file (e.g. a video on social media sites or apps like Facebook, YouTube, Whatsapp, etc., or to download any app on the Google Play store) via WiFi without the download getting "stuck" half way, sometimes not even at 10%. The download would get stuck indefinitely, and only resume once I disable WiFi and start downloading via LTE. Sometimes it also comes back if I just disable WiFi and enable it again. Another problem I have is that my phone seems to go offline when it's not being used for extended periods of time (that being in the 5-10 minute range given I look at it almost every 10 minutes) despite having WiFi during sleep set to be always on. I can tell this because when I try to log in to something like Whatsapp Web it complains that my phone is offline, and this is a problem that never happened with me with my previous phone in the same setting.
A few points to keep in mind:
1- I have "Keep WiFi on during Sleep" set to "Always"
2- This happens everywhere (at home, work, friends', public WiFi, etc.) so it's not related to just my router's setup, and it happens every single day and almost every single time.
4- System is "up to date" and I have the latest update installed (Android 7.1.1, build NOF26V)
3- I'm still able to browse web pages (via Chrome), and browse apps like Facebook, Whatsapp, etc. without getting interruptions or showing any signs of disconnect. It's only the above two issues that I see when downloading big chunks of data, and for some reason my phone appearing to be offline during sleep when it shouldn't be.
Any idea what may be wrong here and how I can fix this? I really would like to keep this phone, but this is really becoming frustrating.
Thanks.

Yes. And ironically enough I ran into the same problem immediately while restoring my backup as the phone was trying to redownload the previously installed apps. It would get stuck not downloading anything but not complain about a lost connection until I disable WiFi and switch to cellular data.
This reminded me that the first time I ran into the problem was also the very first time I used the phone when also downloading my apps.

can you test your wifi performance with another device?
and also try some download manager like ADM and check download with it.

Given that this happens everywhere, not just with my home WiFi, I know the issue is specific to my Pixel. Unfortunately no one at work has a Pixel to try it, but all other devices connected to the same WiFi spots are fine.
I was told by someone that disabling LTE and sticking to 3G cellular data will fix my WiFi issues. Will be trying that at work today.
