[Q] HELP! Verizon samsung galaxy s6 wifi connectivity issues. - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6

I just got the galaxy s6 two days ago and I am already having wifi issues. The phone tells me that the signal is very strong but it cannot load pages and tabs keep crashing. I have to turn off wifi and then turn it back on multiple times to fix the issue. After about 15 minutes it goes right back and continues with the same issue. I know this is not a modem or router issue because all of my other devices are connected and have no issues of loading anything work perfect. Just posting to see if anybody else has this same issue. Please keep me informed if you have found a fix. Thank you!

Exactly having the same issue with WiFi

Same issue here as well. No issues with my older HTC One, but my S6 is having really bad issues with staying connected to WiFi.

Well i figured out the problem. There is an issue with it configuring to different router settings. I changed the authentication type to wpa2-personal and has been working fine with zero issues now.

Did you manually change the settings in s6?

No. I had to go into the router settings and change it manually. Phone will switch to the changed setting automatically.

tronic86......thank you! Finally! Something that worked! It's been driving me crazy. I've tried every every every other trick....DNSet....cache clear....ipv6 changes....manually changed dns to Google....nothing worked until I switched to lower wpa2 setting. You're the only person I've seen post this fix after extensive searching. Hallelujah.

Captivate WiFi issue?

My captivate has a problem. It'll connect to WiFi no problem. Unfortunatly, after a while (could be anywhere from long 30 seconds to a few minutes) the WiFi stops sending data. I have to disable/reenable wifi to get it to work again. It still says connected to network, it just won't receive data.
Anyone know of this happening, have a fix, or maybe what I should look for that might be causing this issue?
I disabled recently installed running apps, no help.
I did try a speedfix last night, and it was unsuccessful, and I uninstalled it. Didn't test enough after that to know for sure if it was the issue, but I don't think so.
It was like, I was going through google reader, started a youtube vid, paused it, restarted it, and it wasn't loading. Just wouldn't load. That's when I think the problem started, and I haven't installed anything since then, that i haven't disabled/uninstalled.
Have you tried flashing the stock OS. Maybe this will help. My wifi has been solid so far but i will see if i get a problem like yours. Try reflashing. If it doesn't work post back.

I have the exact same issue on enterprise class cisco wifi APs. The only difference is the symptom is immediate, and not after an interval of time.

I'm thinking of this, but I don't know...
I have my music on my computer, I have my .apk's in a folder and my market synced with appbrain. Anything else I need to do? Will appbrain reset, and make me go find and reinstall everything?
What about the apps that I paid for, what happens to them?
Would be my first flash, and I'm thinking about flashing one of those I9000 roms, but that would be a last ditch effort. I really hope to avoid this.

It's an AT&T U-verse router, and only started a few hours ago, as near as I can tell.
I experience the same phenomenon of dropped wifi, and it occurs at any AP, but I have an interesting twist.
One time out of twenty when I start wifi, the 3g icon doesn't go away, but stays up on the status line with my wifi icon. On those rare occasions, my wifi stays solid for days. Unfortunately, it's random and rare.
same issue
My Wifi stops sending data and the 3G still shows. Sometimes restarting the router helps and sometimes nothing helps.
For anyone that might find this later, turns out (after two rom flashes) it was the router. I found this out when connecting my laptop to it. Surprised the captivate didn't admit it lost connection though.
I wish that were the case for me. My Captivate stays connected, but stops receiving at many different APs--Home, Starbucks, airport. I need a solution or a Scotch.

I had this exact problem, I tried a factory reset and it was still broken. I exchanged my phone and now it works perfectly holding a signal (except for enterprise 802.1x ap's which are known to be broken). (Also if you run dd-wrt check your logs for "deauthenticated due to local deauth", there is a problem with the wpa/wpa2 modules in either android or dd-wrt that they are not compatible with each other).
I actually found this searching for a solution to my own issue with WiFi. I actually fixed it while I was reading this. Unfortunately I have AT&T DSL with 2wire Modem. I went into the setting and setup MAC filtering and assigned it it's own IP. It has worked flawlessly for the past hour. I know this probably will not help when at other locations but at least at home I have a good connection.

Same router type as mine that lost it originally. Interesting, wonder if there is a connection? Or random coincidence.
I'm having a wifi issue as well, but not to the extent others have.
I connect fine, but it appears as though my data download speed is capped at <2mbps for both wifi and 3g?
My wife's iPhone is getting download speeds of over 10mbps on the same wifi network and >3mbps over 3g.
Is it worth flashing back to stock? or is this a known issue?
I'm running stock JH3 with SRE 1.2.1a with lagfix
I have this same issue and it's really random. Running JH2, sometimes it works on wifi, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes disabling\re-enabling wifi fixes it, but rebooting the phone always fixes it. Really frustrating...

Nexus 5 Wifi Issue

So I've had my Nexus 5 for roughly around a month and I hadn't experienced any issues others have had with wifi not connecting until now. My N5 will show im connected to my home wifi with full bars, but going into quick settings shows it to be orange. Suggesting there's no data transfer, I cannot use any internet based apps with wifi. I've tried some suggestions, switching my router off then on, rebooting the phone, turning some settings off in the advanced panel in wifi settings. All have failed.
I was just wondering if anyone else has this problem and if anyone has a fix to it.

There was a thread around here somewhere that suggested turning off your mobile data helped fix this problem, I think it was in the N5 General forums.....here it is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2550690
Don't know if it'll help or not, just saw your thread and had just looked at the other one, figured I'd toss it out there.
Thanks for the reply, just tried that solution but still no luck.
I have a similar problem except that there are phases of wifi not working.
Sometimes I would have around 20-30 seconds of WiFi not working and there would be no data transfer.
Speeds are still fast when it is working however.
I played a little with only using mobile data and no wifi, and everything worked. (Small sample size however).
Seems like this is a WiFi only issue.
So somehow overnight the wifi has managed to fix itself, will report back if the problem returns.
The issue with the wifi returned unfortunately.

Don't know if you've tried this but change your WiFi frequency band in advanced setting to either "5 GHz only" or "2.4 GHz only," whatever your router uses. Might be worth a try.
Thanks for the help, but I've tried changing some settings in advanced wifi settings but it hasn't worked. Even what you recommended I've tried that before and it didn't work.
wifi issue
Also I have the same issue - Im connected to router by wi-fi, home and work and time by time (5x a day) wifi stops working. Wifi is enabled in settings, but there is no connection. Restart the cellphone helps, but after that, maybe an hour, it appears again.
Issue was in 4.4 and still appers in 4.4.1.
Yet did not found how to solve it.
I have the same issue on my gnex running shiny 4.4, but I also had the same issue on 4.3. Tried the wifi options, nothing worked. Unfortunately, no solution for this device that has to last one more week. The double swipe down and tapping wifi gets the connection back, but it is only a work around.
The N5 connects seamlessly to my home and work wifi. A few days ago, I flashed the hammerhead factory image, TWRP and the 4.4.1 update.

Hey,
I have the same problem with 4.4.2.(factory rom, no root or not unlocked). Sometimes the wifi not works and get orange. I must put airplane mode to fix it. Its annoying.
But as well happens to me:
When I go out from office or home (where I have wifi connections saved in phone) the phone automatically switch to data plan from carrier. But when I come back the phone stays with data and there is not automatic switch to wifi. Sometimes it help to put wifi off or always airplane mode on/off for a while.
I do not know if it is normal behave of android but I would like have automatic switch to wifi.
I tried to change wifi details (changing bands, etc.) but not helped.
Please help. Thank you.
Is custom ROM or kernel will fix it??
For some unknown reason, as soon as I updated my router's firmware, the problem disappeared.
Updated Android 6.0 solved the issue

So I had the unfortunate experience of having my wifi go down while on vacation and for 3 weeks I spent a good chunk of time wiping and reinstalling multiple versions from Cyanogen, Paranoid android and 4.4 - 5.1 to no avail. I just did another factory wipe today and installed the new Android 6.0
The Finger Pointing Game is OVER
Read through 30+ pages of other android users with similar experience and some people send their units back to LG and some even managed getting a new handset. There was never any hardware issues with my unit I just couldn't turn on the WiFi but after the install WiFi works? Guess next time you push a software update to our Phones CHECK YOUR SH*T google and Maybe DON'T Take 3 months to FIX your F*CK Up.
I have a similar issue. Since Lollipop my phone almost never automatically connects to my WiFi anymore. What's wrong?

[Q] Anyone else randomly have their data stop working?

Hi everyone,
Just wondering if anyone's had issues with their data not working after while and require a reboot/airplane mode to work again?
I've noticed it both with Wifi and also with Mobile Data where one minute it'll work, and then suddenly I'll lose signal and need to reboot or switch on/off airplane mode a few times before it connects again.
Thanks!
Nope, haven't noticed anything like that yet. Is this happening on LTE or H/H+?
Nope. Do you have Chinese imported or International version?
Not stop, just slow...
Oneplus arrived from China and CM 11 was installed OK. For over a week everything has been fine using Virgin network in the UK.
Since yesterday though the data has been rather slow when browsing or using apps that require a connection.
When switching the data on the phone does recognise between 3g/H/H+ but when trying to load anything it is far slower than what it has been before.
I've tried clearing the cache and even clearing data but to no avail. Tried a factory reset last night and thought it was OK for a bit but today the same thing...
When using the browser pages will load but the blue loading bar at the top never moves past the first centimeter. (Doesn't move when using WiFi either though speed is finewhen using that).
Already contacted Virgin in case there were any issues but say the service is fine.
Any advice for troubleshooting or things to check would be appreciated.
Cheers

Another reset and browser OK... Haven't done any updates or or signed in to Google account or reinstalled any apps. I think a slow and steady install of what I want and syncing to see if there's a clash somewhere. Hmmm, not happy at all

I have had it where chrome wouldn't load webpages, usually it would start working again after a minute or two.
*sigh*... Thought things were fine last night but using it now its back to being slow again. No idea what's going on. Main update I had to install was Play Services. Chrome seemed a little funny so decided to roll it back at at the time things were alright but using it now its annoying. Took about 4 minutes to download a 3.5 meg file whereas it should breeze through it. I'm not expecting miracles but past experience was far better. Don't know whether there's anything I can do or just raise an issue with my original supplier.

Strange.. for me, it's been both H/H+, LTE and Wifi that have had it happen to me..
Also, it's not the Chinese version. It's the International version I got from Oneplus. Lately it's been ok, but we'll see how it goes..
APN settings ok?
Do you have your preferred network set correctly?
Personally I've noticed no difference. Its set as EE by default but manually added Virgin's own to try.
Been working quickly enough again without rhyme nor reason.

I can confirm the same happening to me... I'm on WIND Mobile in Ontario, Canada. It won't show that you lost the connection, things just stop loading... and the only way to fix it is to toggle airplane. It happens quite often, like a few times an hour. It's definitely a software issue that I'm hoping will be worked out in future updates, or maybe I'll have better luck with another ROM.

I've noticed it a few times where I'll swipe to the left (using Google launcher) and Google Now will indicate there is no internet connection even though I'm in an area with solid coverage. Usually if I swipe down a few times to refresh it will reconnect and update. Today however I had to reboot to reconnect. I have already checked my APN and it's fine. Did not have this issue even once with my Nexus 5 or my OPPO 7A I've been using. I'm going to check the CM bug log to see if it's been reported there.
I*have the same issue. Seems to happen when the 4g signal is weak and the handover to 3g does not happen. Then signal is lost instead.
I changed my APN now, but don't think it will matter... I'll give it a go. Using Franco kernel now, but is probably baseband related. Never had issues with my g2 previously on same location and APN.
In Norway BTW...reboot solve the problem temporarily
I have the same problem. My data connection will just stop at random and Facebook and Google now won't refresh, YouTube videos will suddenly stop playing, and upon hitting retry I'll get an error in both the playback screen and comments, and also the speedtest app won't finish preparing the test when I go to verify that my data connection is severed. I would have to restart in order to get data working again. I do get LTE speeds when it works, but it seems that the OPO takes longer to ramp up to those speeds compared to my Nexus 5 if that makes any sense?

[Q] WiFi Issue

Background:
A week ago, I flashed the Lollipop Developer Preview onto my Nexus 5. I am also in High School, and my school offers WiFi. When I went to school the morning after I flashed it, I was having some trouble with the WiFi. I usually open up Chrome and go somewhere basic (google.com) because the school WiFi will block everything and automatically redirect you to an authentication page, where you would sign in with your student ID and password. What would happen was I would try to connect to the open, unsecured SSID, my phone would connect to it, but would leave a little exclamation mark next to my WiFi indicator. I did some research on that and found that it was because my phone wasn't detecting an active connection, and was switching me back to Mobile Network thanks to the new Lollipop feature. Which means that when I would try to get redirected to the Authentication Page, it would use Mobile Network and successfully bring up whatever URL I threw in there. I searched some more on Google, XDA, and various other Android forums, to no avail.
So, I figured it wasn't the worst thing in the world, and decided to go some time without WiFi while sticking to my Mobile Network. After a couple of days, the WiFi issue seemingly resolved itself. I'm not sure if it was because of something I did, or whatever else. I used the same SSID, same URL for redirection, same browser, same everything. I didn't care, it was fixed. And I thought that was the end of it.
Fast forward to now:
Last night, I flashed the official stock image, straight from Google. I thought the issue I had the week prior was a bug that would've been fixed. To my surprise, I get to school, and sure enough, the same issue as a week before. I am, obviously, going to wait and see if it fixes itself again, but the issue sparked curiosity, and now I have to ask...
What would cause this?
What are some possible resolutions to this?
Is this something Google didn't think of when designing 5.0?
If anybody has/had the same issue, I would love to hear about it. Any help or tips/resolutions are appreciated.
Thanks,
206003
Update:
I'm not sure what happened, exactly, but upon coming to school this morning, I noticed that my WiFi works and the issue is gone. Though I'm glad, I'm still not sure why this happened. Any answers?

I read here on the Nexus 5 site) that Lollypop has a problem when on channel 12 and higher on wifi. Might be your problem.
That's what I thought too. So I downloaded a WiFi analyzer and tried to connect directly to a channel 1 connection. It didn't work. I tried a channel 6 connection, which still didn't work. Any other ideas?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA mobile app
I don't think you can do it that way. I think you will have to actually go into the school router and make the changes on the router. You will need password and permissions and I doubt that school will give it to you.
The WiFi analyzer I used showed me the available channels for the SSID, along with the channel number I was connected to. None of the channels worked.

Same problem. Whenever I try to reconnect to any WiFi, it shows an exclamation mark. To make it work, I have to either switch airplane mode on then off, or forget network and setup again.
This happened ever since upgrading to Android Lollipop without wiping data. I am rooted if that matters.
Any updates? Changing channels is far from a feasible solution.
I found a better temporary fix. Once connected to WiFi, you disable data until the exclamation mark is gone, and then re-enable it.
I'm still not too sure what the fix is. Like I said, time solved my issue. I am still curious as to what it is though, so any input is appreciated.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA mobile app
After a while, the problem reappears so I keep mobile data disabled while on WiFi. You can automate that with Smart WiFi Toggler. Problem pretty much solved.
Yup. Problem reappeared. When I try to disable mobile data and connect again, nothing happens. I still have the exclamation mark.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA mobile app
Here's how I do it:
Connect to WiFi > Disable Mobile Data > Surf the Internet > Exclamation mark disappears.
Android 5.0.1 seems to have fixed the issue for me.
Greetings.
I had the same wifi! problem with everyone and when i looked at my router's settings i noticed that there was no dns selected in the router. not from isp, not manually, nothing. So i just checked dns from isp and voila.
hope that helps someone.

WiFi keeps disconnecting after the nougat update.

So far I love the nougat update. The main problem I have now is the WiFi disconnects when I turn off the screen. Really annoying because I listen to music a lot at work and ever since then the music will stop randomly so the wifi will have to connect again. Rebooting does nothing and I don't want to hard reset the phone to see if it will fix it. I have already gone through 3 different note 5 because of stupid problems. it seems like a battery saving thing. the old update power saving feature used to do the same thing and wouldn't let background apps use data when the phone was off and now its doing it on all the power settings. Not sure what to do.
first off, make sure your wifi is set to stay on always during sleep (at least just to test to see if that fixes things). That said, I've experienced this too (even with that setting set to "always") and hopefully I've fixed it but need more time (and others seeing this issue) to verify the fix and actually I really don't have a fix, just a work around.
I think what's going on is that wifi is being subjected to the battery optimization/power saving stuff and is disabled or whenever when the screen goes off. I've turned off all "power saving stuff" and now wifi seems to stay on.

This seems to be a pretty broad issue with Nougat updates, on many device models. Some have suggested disabling the advanced wifi setting "smart network". I just did that and will see how it goes.
Yep same problem here and I have tired nearly everything but smash the phone so far.
I gave up trying to fix it. Nothing is working and I'm not wiping the system just for that. Mostly only happens at work on that wifi. Home doesn't really disconnect much.

I'm thinking it happens for me when the phone tries to swap between to wifi access points of the same ssid... like at hotels and work.
Might be right but I know it has something to do with it going to sleep when my screen shuts off. I have the always on turned on but it only happens when my screen is off and I turn it back on

I tried a factory reset to fix the Wi-Fi issue. It did nothing except waste my time. I've been with the Note series since the 2 and I'm done with them. I seem to also have some issue with the damn things. I've never been on IOS but I'm ready to take it for a spin.

Hello Mr Mike,
I'm to the point I can no longer stand this issue. I'm constantly getting an exclamation mark beside my wifi. The thing that boggles me the most is I don't see very many complaints when researching this issue. Am I missing something simple? I also know it's not my router. My wife has an S7 edge, my son uses my old Note 3, and my daughter has an eclipse tablet. None of those devices have this issue. I also know that nothing associated with wifi is set up to sleep. I'm at a loss!
I would hate to roll back to marshmallow but I'm seriously considering it! I'm constantly streaming music and this issue has made this a nightmare.
Any help to fix this would be greatly appreciated!!

Do you have "smart network switch ebabled"? If you have no need for your mobile data to be enabled then disable it for as long as you're going to be near the Wi-Fi network so you can still receive texts and other stuff.. Just as a sort of test to see if your mobile data is fighting with your Wi-Fi data.. Also how many devices are connected to your Wi-Fi at the time the drop usually happens? For instance if I'm using most of the Wi-Fi data, like say your speeds capped at 10MB and your wife is downloading using almost all of the speed and then other devices will not be able to use that data and your phones going to think the Wi-Fi network is being slow and rather drop it altogether.

I've tried enabling and disabling smart switch and I have the same issue. I just tried forgetting the network and setting wi-fi back up fresh (after a factory reset, logging into my Samsung account sets up my Wi-Fi from previously saved settings). So far I haven't I disconnected.
The wife and kids do use some data, but not enough to warrant the issues I've been having. Once again thanks for a quick response. I will report if resetting the connection works.

Enable developer options and under Network make sure nothing is on.. I don't know much about your type of setup but I have internet through the cable company but I use my own modem and Wi-Fi network built into it and manually control what devices can use, like what amount of speed, the IP address it can use and so on so I don't really have any issues like that.. I even have it setup so it's a white list type setup so nothing can be connected unless I personally add that devices MAC address.. Neighbors always trying to get free internet!!
Hey just found something. There's a way to check to see what's making the wifi disconnect. For me it is my gear s2. Goto wifi settings and under advanced, scroll to bottom and control history is there. I clicked on it and it said gear s plugin turned my wifi off. So I went and disabled the wifi setting on my watch and made sure to turn sync wifi profiles off also. It seemed to help at home but at work it's still happening but less often. I don't think this is the culprit for most but I have seen an improvement at least for me, it seems.
The only solution I've found is to stop buying Samsung. I went 3 months without sensors working and now my wifi is garbage. So long Samsung!

So I think I've narrowed the issue down. Yesterday I had a pool party and used a Brookstone speaker I have that plugs into the 3.5mm jack (I usually connect to several Bluetooth speakers I use). I did not have one single issue. Is it conceivable that using Bluetooth is causing my Wi-Fi issues? If so, any ideas on a fix?

It could yes since a lot of them use 2.4GHZ like Wi-Fi does but it's usually unlikely that Bluetooth would cause your Wi-Fi to get messed up because Bluetooth uses AFH which basically identifies bad channels (i.e. those that are already in use) Bluetooth technology nowadays uses what’s called spread-spectrum frequency hopping. That is, they rotate between 70 randomly chosen frequencies within their range, changing 1,600 times a second. That makes it unlikely that two devices will share the same frequency. But if you have your Wi-Fi unit in a spot where it has to pass between a bunch of walls before it gets to you that could also cause a problem since Wi-Fi signals don't like traveling through walls and other objects.

Only 1600 times a second lol. Thanks, I'm going to try setting up a repeater to widen my signal.

I'm pretty sure it's the new "app power monitor" battery saver that comes with Nougat. You can disable it by going to Battery> Advanced Settings> App power monitor > OFF. I recently tried it and it worked instantly and consistently.
It looked like a good idea... basically, it was an official Android version of "Greenify", only it repeatedly turns off wifi. What a joke. I turned that off, and now my wifi is stable, instead of turning off every 5 seconds.
Where do we go from here? I still want the battery savings... I guess I'll go back to Greenify and Package Disabler Pro...
I'll try that out thanks
