[Q] Non-stock ROMs? - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if there were any non-stock ROMs developed for the OnePlus? I mean ROMs which have a different UI to stock Android, not ROMs like SlimBean or AOKP which use the same UI as stock Android.
I've been using Stock Android UI for the past three years and I'm fed up with it, hence the question.
Thanks!

What exactly are you asking? There are only Android ROMs available for this device (just like pretty much every other Android device), and you can't have Android without the Android UI.

I think he is looking for a skinned overlay type thing. Like Sense or Touchwiz.
The closest thing to a skinned option are a couple of MIUI builds and ColorOS.

Well, not exactly like MIUI or ColorOS, because I don't like them at all. More like TouchWiz, Sense or LG UI. Or anything with split-screen multitasking.

In that case, no there's nothing like that for this phone. There was a Sense 6 port being worked on but I believe it proved to be too difficult to get working. I think the closest you'll come is using a theme.

Well damn.
When I saw the first screenshots of Oxygen OS, I thought it might not look exactly like stock. That's why I asked over here.

I would just install the HTC BlinkFeed - Sense 7 Port, that way you get the awesome HTC Launcher with the stability of a rom designed for the OnePlus One.

Hey Lets Vote For Official MIUI On Our Device

Even though we already have a working miui, official miui team is taking poll to make miui for another device official. An official release will mean less bugs and faster updates.

I've never understood the MIUI styling. Why anybody would want to make their phone look like an iPhone is beyond comprehension to me.
I could not entertain the thought.

I used MIUI for 1 year.. my phone never looked like an iphone...
Stop comparing MIUI to iOS just because it has all the app on the launcher, MIUI is more than that..
+1 MIUI is NOT an iOS clone.. its way more..
stop judging and try it, see for yourself.. if you dont like use something else, dont ***** at the people that do use it lol
+1 me love MIUI

You guys just sit down and relax, i'm totally sure One S will have official support, because almost every above par HTC has it!
I hope we do. but miui tends to keep a lot of older devices and add the newer one later.
but we have a good head start with the unofficial rom, hope they are aware of that.
I find it hilarious and embarrassing how many phones were added to that list more than once...

I will be updating my ROM every week, just like China. It would be done already today, but there was a delay in China. The other thing to realize is if it does go official, it will be based off sense, so the file size will be at least double of what my port is.

A bit confused.. Why would they base it off of Sense? Haven't all other versions been AOSP/CM based?

That's the way MIUI has been doing all their official v4 releases. It's called patchrom. By doing it that way, they don't have to really on there being a developed aosp base, which can help the roms be released sooner. Downside is the zips are like double the size, and it's not an aosp ROM anymore

[Q] Why isn't LMT Launcher working from boot?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330150
There's the thread for the LMT Launcher; I followed the instructions, I followed Zedomax's video tutorial on YouTube, but after I install it, I open the app and it leads me to a black screen. I touched the screen a couple times and it somehow "started touchservice" and I had pie control. I can turn pie control off in the same fashion, but I can't customize it or even see the LMT Launcher screen... What should I do?
My phone is rooted using AAHK; my rom is Sabsa Prime v14 which has been working near flawlessly.
I'm new to this, and I'm not one to ask questions on here (this is literally my first), but I could not find anybody with a similar problem. Thanks in advance for any help.
My hunch is that LMT wouldn't work as well on non-AOSP ROMs, like the Sense-based Sabsa.
Ah, so basically my only solution is to run a different rom. Is there any way I could stay with something sense 4 based but more compatible? Anything recommended? I'd rather have sense 4 than LMT but pie control would be nice...

Definitely note that it's just a hunch on my part, and that hunch is only because I haven't seen PIE on non-AOSP ROMs thus far; that doesn't mean it's completely impossible.
Ah, I had completely forgotten that I had posted this thread. It was simply a problem specific to the rom; v15 fixed it and it's working soundly.

I thought so too, so I tried it on a One X running a custom JB Sense ROM (ViperX). It worked perfectly. So I guess it works fine on all Sense ROMs 4.0+. About LMT not starting on boot, there is a slightly obscure autostart option which I think the OP didn't enable. On recent LMT versions however there's an easy toggle for it.

So I don't mind sense. But I downloaded a stock ish Rom yesterday and it was 1.2 GB
That's 1 Gb more than cm of stuff I don't use. I like very lean roms that occupy less space and are highly performant.

Sense is awesome. Much more functionality and customization than AOSP although I sometimes do have the urge of running minimalistic AOSP.

Cm
I had cm on Verizon galaxy nexus! I started getting upset at the time it took to get to stable builds.
I doubt AOSP will be able to make the Duo Camera work. So, no special effects like focusing on different parts and other junk like that.
Might as well stick with Sense 6. It seems to be working very well so far.
surprisingly enough i dont mind sense...not the case with that steaming load Samsung calls Touchwiz. I would like to get back to aosp roms but i want the sense camera or one that can utilize the dual camera functions. That wont be long off...htc release the api for the dual camera so there will be options soon enough

HTC wants 3rd party development on the camera. They released an SDK. That may help.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/htc-releases-dual-lens-sdk-for-the-htc-one-m8-2014/
My issues with sense revolves around the lockscreen and how it handles notification sounds.
With sense in place dashclock, which I prefer, I can't replace the stock lockscreen. Even using AOSP lock screen on Viper is not optimal since my tasker script does not allow me to situationally disable/reenable the lock screen.
There seems to be an issue on how sense handles notifications. I use a third party app to give me situational sound profiles, similar to what is offered in CM. When using it with sense I don't get reliable results. The built in sound profiles in sense aren't flexible enough.
Maybe I've just been using AOSP too long but I find sense too restrictive for how I use my phone.

can the gpe on the international edition not utilize the dual camera functions? if it can, i don;t see why aosp roms cannot just keep the camera driver and the camera app from gpe.

I actually LIKE Sense (and completely agree about TouchWiz.) I have liked Sense back to the earliest versions but CyanogenMod has been my daily driver for a very long time. I am delighted to see Invisiblek is on the M8 project, I hope CM will be here soon and I'll be switching ROMs as I did with my Galaxy S3 and S4, running CyanogenMod until a problem shows up in a nightly and then switching back to Andybone's most excellent Bonestock ROM until CM gets fixed again. Eventually, CM became perfect (for me) on the Galaxy phones and I could stop switching and I know that's what will happen with the M8.

"Frankly, it'd be silly to have extra hardware on a phone that's completely unusable, so the Google Play edition will still take advantage of the Duo Camera functionality. Predictably, the app itself is the stock Google version, but the HTC magic comes out as soon as you enter the Photos app and try editing your shots. You'll be prompted to open up "HTC Photo Edit," and you'll see a screen that looks much like what you'd find in the Sense gallery, but with fewer options: UFocus, Dimension Plus and Touch Up are the only Duo Camera-esque effects listed, which means the Foregrounder, Seasons and Copy/Paste functions didn't make the cut. (Filters, frames and tools are still hanging out on the right sidebar.) UFocus is our favorite of the Duo Camera options, so we're glad to see it there, but Dimension Plus is a useless and gimmicky feature that we just don't use very often."
from http://www.engadget.com/2014/04/08/htc-one-m8-google-play-edition/
it seems like the driver and photo editing software that is the real key behind dual cameras is on gpe so those should port over seamlessly to aosp based roms.

J/K if you like the aesthetic then there are some excellent look-alike CM11 themes by thomasaffca.
If you want some of the extra features you'll need to look towards something like Mahdi which has hover plus a lot of other stuff.
Give a chance to stock in this device. Most likely you won't need 99% of the stuff Touchwiz conveniently shoves in your face and you will feel a device at least as twice as fast.

OPO... my mind is always tempted to write OPPO... which kinda is true.
The build quality, included storage (64GB vs 16GB), software and even battery life are better for me.
With that much space, not having an SD Card is not a problem to me.
Camera seems to be good, maybe not as good as the S5 in daylight but very good on it's own.
My S5 even when having top of the line specs (38k+ in Antutu) lagged thanks to Touchwiz. Never again.
^^ what he said. I've had galaxy devices since they were released. Believe me cm is MUCH better. Take some time to immerse yourself in the settings - it will really amaze you how much faster cm is.
Cm is actually one of the plainer aosp ROMs - check out carbon or liquid smooth - tweaktastic!
But... Touchwiz is the Satan of ROMs! Touchwiz is so slow and filled with useless blaotware from Samsung. I'd rather use Sense 6.

Its too high level talk for me . Pass
I like touchwhiz because of S health.
I really want to buy a OPO but i use S health every day and i will miss it so hard.
Never found a decent alternative (accuracy or battery usage)
I find touchwiz to have better interface than native opo. What I specifically miss on the opo is
1) having the home screens wrap around.
2) let me sort my total list of applications my way.
3) unread count on sms/mms.
4) easy creation of home screens to the left.
I haven't noticed touchwiz to be slow on my S2.

Cleanest ROM for Galaxy S7

Hey guys!
Okay so I'm quite new to this entire android thing as I switched from iPhone just before the summer and so I decided to get an Samsung S7 but I think it's so ugly and bleh compared to what the Stock android looks like on a friends P9 and was wondering if it's possible to get a clean android ROM and where in that case?
Thanks on before hand for answers!
Start with themes, the android 6.0 looks pretty aosp'ish.
There are some pretty good AOSP ish' themes on the Samsung theme store. I downloaded the "nougat" theme from the store and let me tell you it looks pretty damn AOSP ish'

As you switched from iPhone recently, i assume you don't know about launchers?
It changes the whole look and feel of your phone in a few sec.
Try Google Now launcher, Pixel launcher (my fav), Nova Launcher, ....
I believe the title says rom, not themes and launchers.
I personally use Basicplus. It has no bugs, a better battery life and is overall smoother then the stock rom.
