Can this be done? I've inserted my micro sim adapter but I am not getting data.
I have tried several different apns with no luck.
Any help would be appreciated
You need the 4g/lte sim. Call att make sure phone is on acct and add correct data plan

Thanks, will the new sim work in my 4s if I have it cut to micro size?

The reason you're not getting data, perhaps, is because you need to change your plan with your carrier.
AT&T right?
They can tell sometimes. Other times they can't. I have a SE x10 device able to be a mobile hotspot without paying extra for the tether plan. Oh and before that, I had a x10i then lit up a new x10a AT&T branded android their system automatically without my permission switched my data plan from 2G unlimited, to a 3G+ 2GB cap and $10/GB for overage.
Hope that helps.
Yes sir, AT&T. I called customer service prior to posting here and, as I figured, they said I have to get a new sim. My only problem is I'm not ready to give up the iPhone entirely. I'd like to try and have the best of both worlds and switch back and forth.
Oh and I was able to switch back and forth between the Galaxy Nexus and iPhone with no issues.
Only problem was the Nexus had terrible gps and kept losing signal and I returned it.

You need a new one. It will still light your iphone up, ask about your data plan. There should not be a problem with a new sim and correct data plan.

I wonder if you're confused about that cuz the SIM is obviously much larger than your extended memory chip. Like Thumbnail compared to pinky nail LOL.
An iphone user wouldn't be as familiar with the Micro SD HC chip (removable on Android handsets). I put a 32 GB Class 10 in my skyrocket, or my Infuse, and it has 20 gigs of stuff loaded on it and it zooms with the skyrocket compared to the Infuse.
---------- Post added at 01:40 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:28 AM ----------
And personally if I couldn't move my stuff, the stuff I have loaded on my Lexar, (bought from Sears so I could pay extra) 32 GB Micro SDHC, Class 10 thumb drive (which are wash machine and dryer proof, tested multiple times, occasionally the USB adapter reader doesn't make it)...
bottom line...
Dude, if you can't move your chip to your iphone then why would you bother lighting the darn thing up with your SIM? Get over your iphone!
Update...I was on my way to the AT&T store and noticed that I had the 4g symbol. Sweet!!
Only problem is my download speed is about half of what I get from my 4s.

I have both the Skyrocket and the iphone 4S and have not problem switching the sim. I use a microsim adapter in the Skyrocket. You don't need a special sim for either phone. Just have ATT provision the microsim for your Skyrocket on a LTE data plan. Before doing that, my skyrocket could make calls but not receive data. Once on the LTE plan I can now switch back and forth from my iphone to Skyrocket and both work fine with the same sim.

Thanks for the reply, one last question.
Have you had any issues with your gps?
I find it odd that both my Galaxy Nexus and Skyrocket are both losing signal while using navigation.

No problems at all with GPS. The Skyrocket has the best GPS I have ever had on any phone. Locks super fast and tracks really well.
Ok, guess I will be exchanging my current one for another Skyrocket since this one loses signal and sometimes doesnt keep up with my current location.
Sorry can't help much, but the SIM card for my iPhone 3GS can switch back and forth easily and works with data. But it's not a micro sim
This totally answered my question. Thanks!
One question though: does visual voicemail work ok on both?

I went to the store yesterday, got a new SIM, cut it to microSIM size, and was happily surfing on both devices. Thanks for the confirmation. I was going to try it anyway cause I couldn't seem to find anyone that did it but ran into your post yesterday. Made me feel better about doing it. I just had to get over the fear of cutting my new sim with the dodgy sim cutter template.

There really is no such thing as an lte sim card whether it says lte on it doesn't matter. It's how it's provisioned in the ATT system. I didn't cut one down. When I bought my Skyrocket I pulled the mini sim out of my iphone, placed it in the adapter and put it in the Skyrocket. Phone worked but data did not. To fix the that, the agent behind the counter just changed my data plan to the lte one in the system and data immediately started working. As soon as I got back in my car, I put the mini sim back in the iphone and it also worked on voice and data.
Hey guys, I know that there was another thread on this previously, but there was no answer. I have an old Sim (from around 2008) and just purchased a Skyrocket. I tried using the APN for the LTE, but didnt recieve any internet signal at all. I am currently using the HSPA+, but I was wondering if you guys had any ideas on what could be causing the problem. Thanks in advance.

You need a new SIM dude.
Yes, I am actually an old employee and they never took away my plan, so I have avoided going into an ATT store or calling them for about 3 years. lol. What is the difference between an LTE sim and another one? I thought that they just got smaller.
I was in the same boat as you earlier this week. I was still using the same sim for probably the past 4-5 years.
I had to first go get a new LTE sim from the AT&T store. Mine was free although I've heard some places try and charge you.
Next I had to call up 611 and have them change my data plan which was previously listed as "Blackberry Personal Unlimited" <--LOL and switch it over to one of the new LTE unlimited plans.
Took about 5 mins on the phone with the ATT rep and I had LTE service. Congrats on the phone! I've had mine for less than a week and am loving it!
Hey any of you guys think Best Buy would give you a free sim?
Corporate AT&T stores (from my experience) give you free SIMS....Authorized Retailers usually try and charge you.
I have never had a problem with my local AT&T Corporate store, it's the only one I will go to....I never go to an Authorized Retailer.
I really only go to BB because of the insurance being 9.99 a month

Call AT&T and have them provision your line with the LTE plan, there's a specific plan that needs to be added so that your phone will connect to the LTE towers.
I came from an iPhone 3GS. I was allowed to keep my unlimited data plan (which doesn't exist anymore for new people) and got my SIM for free. I did this at a retail store. I say just go in. Verify they aren't going to do anything you don't like before you give them your account info.

You may have to perform what's called an IVR acceptance. I'm recently separated from the company but I consider myself a decent expert on the processes. Did you order the phone from online/call center? If so, when AT&T sends the phone, due to you not being able to PHYSICALLY sign a contract when you upgrade/activate, etc., they place this feature on your account until you dial *862 (from the CURRENT, not new, phone) and accept the terms. You'll need the Billing Zip, Account Holder's Last 4, and the phone # of course. It's all automated. Try that out and THEN insert the new SIM in the SR. It amazed me how many customers would call CARE or go to a store and get stuck for hours because the "rep" thought it was a technical issue when it's really a 2 minute process.

I'm assuming you just attempted to just swap the SIM into the LTE SR and keep it rolling. They're correct when they say you need a new SIM. There's a coding to the network that older (especially 2008) SIM cards won't accept because the network hadn't been constructed @ the time. You will ALSO need an LTE data plan on the account so make sure you've done that as well.
Thanks for all the help guys. I think I am going to give them a call and switch it to a new sim to see if that would work. I have to switch phones first, lol. My plan is super cheap right now, and I got the phone at a steal at 340. My sim card is old as hell, and I will see if it will work without me having to pay more for my old employee plan. I hope they dont ask me for my supervisor's name. Wish me luck.

Do you have the data feature as stand-alone or integrated into the rate plan itself? Some school districts did it that way. 99% of us have stand-alone. If that's the case, it shouldn't affect your current stasis.
Skyrocket CM7 O/C +
Its the one that has it all integrated into the single plan. Here is the text from the plan.

Wow. Rather unique plan you have there. Looks like you have a grandfathered plan that isn't for smartphones. That being the case, outside of the iPhone 2g trick, you're stuck with capped data options.
Sent from my SGH-I727 using XDA App
Someone else a RadioShack employee too? Been gone since mid-08 and am also still on the same plan. I was looking at finally upgrading my Touch Pro 2 and was curious about the data. Looks like I'm pretty much stuck considering I don't want to lose my $25/month plan.
unlimted
I was able to keep unlimited grandfathered data with 4g, but no matter what i did, or who i talked to, LTE would take it away, so i said keep the 4g, im using a skyrocket, and i dont get lte in my area for now, so its kind of ok ( except for travel)
but i had to do this all on the phone with an att rep, nothing was doable online.
hope this helps someone.
I think I understand the logic behind this question, but I'm going to ask anyway because I want to see if there are any policy pitfalls before I take the plunge and purchase a One XL. This specifically is about AT&T and their LTE network.
I have an Inspire 4G on the AT&T network and I would like to buy the One XL and just transfer my SIM card (by either cutting mine down or by stopping by an AT&T store and purchasing one of the mini SIM cards). I don't want to have to sign up for a new contract because I have an old grandfathered data plan (unlimited) and I don't need the LTE network... I'm perfectly happy with the HSPDA speeds I've been receiving.
Has anyone done something similar or ran into any problems with attaining a new SIM card and not having to move to a new data plan?
On a side note, I was going to give my Inspire 4G to my girlfriend to replace her Iphone 3GS. I understand the SIM card is the same size and she doesn't have an Iphone specific plan... it's basic voice + unlimited data for smartphones. Anyone have issues with that type of transfer either?
Just go to an AT&T store, and they should give you a MicroSIM for free, as they usually do for account holders.
Further, you do want to add LTE to your account. You can do so and keep your unlimited data plan. You just have to be specific about telling them to do it, and make sure they do it right. Its not completely straighforward for them. It took them about 15 minutes to figure out how to do it, and the rep had to call his manager over. They technically need to put you on a "new" data plan, but it says "unlimited data with LTE" and its only available for grandfathered customers. Its really the same plan you were on before, just with LTE added. Its no extra fee, you keep unlimited data, and you get the smoking fast LTE speeds. Plus your cap before getting throttled goes up to 5 GB, versus 3 GB for non-LTE plans.
Whether you want to stay off contract, and just pay full retail for the phone, versus subsidized pricing and an additional 2 year commitment is up to you. But all I've mentioned above should be true in either case.
Your GF should be fine putting her SIM into your old Inspire.

I bought a One X and was able to keep my unlimited data. Also, when you go to an LTE data plan the data throttle cap for unlimited plans goes from 3GB to 5GB. There is plenty of reason to add LTE to your unlimited plan unless you really don't want a contract.
Looks like all of that was already pointed out. So X2 it.

That's true. My bad. Slip in my thought process.
Maybe, just maybe, if you truly wanted better battery life you wouldn't want LTE (since there is no way to disable it on the AT&T One X). Lol.

Awesome information! Thank you so much for your help. This isn't spelled out very well anywhere on AT&T's website. I avoided the 2 year commitment with a subsidized phone because they said I would lose my unlimited data plan. I didn't want to give that up with a new contract. However, if that information isn't correct... then I need to find a store with a competent salesperson. Anyone know if that's the case?

You can call them or got into an AT&T store and they should know that you get to keep your unlimited. I bought mine through Best Buy and they can make sure unlimited stays right there, although I still called to verify after.
Anybody at the store tells you otherwise, then they are lying.

Looks like you've already taken care of it. But for others that may have the same question: Yeah, the salesperson needs to be pretty competent. But it seems to be getting a bit more common that people with grandfathered plans want to get LTE added to their accounts, as LTE is being launched in more and more markets, and their are more devices with LTE being offered by AT&T. So its not as bad as when they first started doing it. When the Vivid came out last year (the first LTE phone on AT&T?), I was reading lots of reports of AT&T reps accidentally taking unlimited data off people's plan, not even knowing/understanding what the customer was asking for, trying to tell them its not possible to keep unlimited data, etc.
Its gotten better since those days, but you still have to be careful its done right. Doing it in the store is good, the rep let me look on the screen to confirm the choices before finalizing each one. It did take a while for them to get it done right. The rep had to call his manager over, who had to sign onto an "older" system on his computer in order to do it, since my account was so old. But it got done, and at least they knew what I was talking about.

Talking about 'old'... I still had a 'blue' plan from the days before cingular! They had to upgrade my plan then because I was signed up for a legacy data plan that was a weird data+voice plan that wasn't carried over. I don't recall the reason but that was before I ever had a smartphone.

Wow, that really is old. Mine is nowhere near close. I've only been on AT&T/Cingular for 11 years or so. And only had data for maybe 5 years.
Might have been some major shift in technology that required the change. My father-in-law was forced to switch cell phone plans way back in the day when they were turning off the analog system and going digital!
I've search around everywhere not just on XDA looking for speedtests of this thing. I really want to pick up the $99 prepaid Verizon phone, bypass the prepaid activation, and then use it as my main device for a while (on my Verizon contract). First off, if I bypass the prepaid activation, I could do this right?
Beyond that though, I can't find speed tests ANYWHERE for the Verizon version. I would love if anyone that has it could post what speeds they normally get. The issue is I've had an LTE phone for almost 2 1/2 years and never had a 3G phone, meaning stepping down would be pretty painful. So if I could just get some solid real-world numbers I could decide if it's even a possibility of me getting it.
Thanks.
I get about 60kbs with 1-2 bars, and 400kbs and higher with 4-5 bars.
also, you HAVE to have this phone activated on a prepaid account for 6 months straight before you can move it to a postpaid account.

Also, a recent patent filing shows that an LTE Moto G is coming. So IF that comes to Verizon, that sounds like it would be great for you. Or if you live in a place where you can deal with T-Mobile or AT&T, then its an option for you.

Wow those numbers are inexcusably low... How can Verizon call that 3G? Also, is bypassing the activation just so people can use it as a media device? I don't see how it stops you from using a contract if you bypass it. I'll take your word for it though, just wondering for an explanation.

I live out in the middle of no where, outside of a small town. Where I live, I get 1-3 bars, tops. So i never really have a strong connection. But it is STILL pretty freaking slow.
Patent filing for a LTE Moto G makes no sense whatsoever. Maybe an FCC filing for compliance testing is what you mean. Regardless it's probably not going to happen as US carriers have already decided what they want the Moto G for and it was for their 3G networks, mostly prepaid ones at that.
only did 1 speed test and I got 730Kbs down/1.1Mbs up. This was in the center of big city, near major shopping centers and highways in southern calif. (full bars), and really this varies on location and time of day. I've seen 2.7Mbs down/1.5Mbs up in the same place other times with an older phone as well as much less rates (~100 kbs) with this same older phone and in the same location (again full bars).
I can't believe how bad Verizon's 3G is compared to T-Mobile and AT&T...
Also, I don't really understand how they could tell if the phone is pre-paid and now allow you to use it on a contract if you bypass the activation. Especially if you rom it and then try to use it as your phone.
Anyway, I had an idea. I could use my current phone to tether to the Moto G when I want to do anything other than text or call people and then just use my phone for those things. Do you think it'd get tedious? (Why doesn't Verizon have calls/text over data yet )
I just bought the moto g on Verizon prepaid for 50 bucks did a speed test and got 2.47 down and .76 up. Not on the same level as my note 3 on DCHSPA or lte but fast enough for most things I need done on a smart phone
Oh and I'm in the suburbs of DC, southern Maryland area. Actually right next to a national park in did this in the basement of my house so I expect in the middle of the city with five bars I should get faster. Maybe in the 4-5 range down
This is on LoIng Island, N.Y....
Up until yesterday I was receiving 4G signal in my entire town, inside and outside of buildings, but now it refuses to even try to connect at 4G. I thought maybe I had screwed up the radio partition when I flashed a new ROM, so I went back to stock recovery and stock ROM and did a factory reset and that didn't help. I called customer service and they, of course, have no idea what's going on. They've opened a network ticket to try and figure it out. But here's the kicker... I put a deactivated account, former post-paid SIM in my phone and it went straight to full 4G... I thought maybe my SIM was fried so I went to the local Verizon retailer and bought another one for $10... and I still only get 3G with my prepaid account.
This sounds clearly like a provisioning issue with my account, but they're not being very helpful on the phone. I asked the rep to remove the provisionings for 4G and then put them back on there but she kept making excuses on why she couldn't/shouldn't do it...
Anyone have similar issues or have any insight on whether it's my account, SIM cards or something else?

Up until yesterday I was receiving 4G signal in my entire town, inside and outside of buildings, but now it refuses to even try to connect at 4G. I thought maybe I had screwed up the radio partition when I flashed a new ROM, so I went back to stock recovery and stock ROM and did a factory reset and that didn't help. I called customer service and they, of course, have no idea what's going on. They've opened a network ticket to try and figure it out. But here's the kicker... I put a deactivated account, former post-paid SIM in my phone and it went straight to full 4G... I have verizon prepaid but have no coverage here at home. I will check mine when I go to town later today. I would go to verizon corporate store and say fix it. Also a corporate store will usually not charge you for a sim card, now that was on post paid, but since your 4g isnt working I bet they would have swapped it out for free anyway prepaid or not, especially if you asked to speak to a manager I bet they would have for free for sure. When I switched from post paid to prepaid they just reactivated my same sim card I used on post paid. Another issue I had when I had post paid I had 2 accounts closed one opened another a month later the could not get a new nano sim card to register on my account for my m8 they actually had to reuse the nano sim that I had originally received with my phone when I got it new which was from the first post paid account. Maybe it has something to do with the nfc also because only the new sim cards can run nfc. I will post again after I find out later if my LTE is working.

Oh don't even get me started on the troubles I had to go through to get this phone activated ! Every time they tried to activate my phone (and failed) I was charged $48 for the prepaid plan... only problem is that it doesn't reflect on my account. Basically they just took the money! I'm waiting another week to allow them to reverse the charges, before I file disputes with my credit card company.
I would've gone to a corporate store for a new SIM but the closest one is 50 miles away.

I went to town and my freaking data icon wont show at all but mobile data shows connected I tried airplane mode numerous times and rebooting and no go. I even changed my setting so mobile data icon shows at all times still no go, even changed my connection icons all back to verizon because I usually run the at&t style connection icons rebooted and still no mobile data icon. Tonight will try reflashing the viperone 1.8 rom if that does not fix it will try a back up where it did work if not that then try back up of a couple other roms I will also post on viperone forum see if any bugs reported on it.
If I were you I would be on with verizon and ask which one is the correct charge and ask for the authorization number that they have with your cr company then call cr company and have them remove all the extra charges I wouldnt wait letting verizon screw with your finances find which charges are unauthorized and get them removed by your cr company.
Yeah 50 miles sucks corporate for me here in Ohio is about 20 miles each way but I usually need to go to town for myself anyway.
Hey when you go to add money to your verizon prepaid account for up coming months buy from www.prepaidonline.com because you get discounts from them and pay less than buying direct from verizon plus prepaidonline never charges tax so there is a few dollars every month there alone. I save the taxes plus I get like a $2 or $2.50 loyalty discount which you can use on the next purchase so keep using it and every month no taxes on it plus that loyalty discount off every month too it adds up saves probably $5 a month or more off of purchasing through verizons web site or on phone.

I called my credit card company (Barclay) two days ago and they said to give Verizon at least 15 days to reverse the charges ... I might hit up the corporate store this weekend, because the false charges add up to over $150 . I think you're right, I don't see Verizon doing the right thing here, I wonder how many people they scam money from this way every day... One of the charges did get reversed, another was partially reversed (they mysteriously took $3 for themselves from it though), but there are still 3 other charges that need to be reversed.
As for going to prepaidonline.com, the only reason I wouldn't do that is because I'm signed up for the lowest plan and have it set to AutoPay which gives me a bonus 500mb of data, totaling 1GB on the $45 plan.

Yeah but you could save probably $5 a month this way and you can buy 3 gb's for $20 that lasts for 90 days. I weighed it out and it saves me money plus the money you add to buy the bridge data you earn loyalty rewards on also.
Yeah Barclay sucks I have them too but also have capital one too and they are much better. I use my paypal debit card for everything its backed up by my bank account with my paypal debit card I get 1% cash back on all charges made on it every month its free money. Paypal would have cancelled the charges or reversed them for me immediately. Barclay you have to fill out paperwork and mail it to them yeah they suck big time.

I got my mobile data icon to show again, so I will check later this afternoon as I have to run errands in town later and there is LTE there all I"am showing here right now is 1x which is normal for here sometimes might show LTE but use any data at all and goes right to 1x. Will post later if my LTE is working.
My LTE seems to be working ok. I got 12mbps sure it's not at&t speeds and barely more than at&t's hspa which is as much as 8mbps but yeah it's LTE just verizon slow speeds lol. I think your problem must be your SIM card.

It seems whatever "network ticket" they opened for me resolved the issue. They never called me like they said they would, but I bet it's probably because there wasn't a network issue at all but rather a provisioning issues like I kept telling them lol
Still need to get all my false charges reversed by Verizon though...

Good they at least got it working for you. They probably needed to reset your account and no one new how to do it. It was probably due to them still going through the changes of adding LTE to prepaid. I would get on them about the charges, are they completed or still pending ?

Made it to a corporate store after work today, the lady that helped me remembered me from before and she remembered the ridiculous amounts of trouble we went through to get my phone activated. So it was nice to have someone that understood why I might be frustrated. I showed them my credit card and debit card statements. She sent in a request for me to get my money back. Sounds like it'll get resolved, sooner or later but hopefully sooner.

At least your 4g is working and they have to refund the overcharges, just crazy they are taking so long.
