[Q] Lollipop on HTC one mini M4? - General Topics

Hello guys and fell xda members,
New to site, but will get straight to point on post -
just picked up a HTC one mini m4 (tmo), currently has stock 4.4.2. My quetion is -
would it be unwise/a waste of time to put lollipop on the phone?
I want to note that I am no where near veteran, or even experienced, status - on the in's and out's, or pedantics, of flashing/rooting etc.
Which, in turn, is why I made this post - for feedback. I have flashed, and rooted phones before - but do want to make sure I am not diving into something totally idiotic, only want to start with what could be a stupid question/post/idea.....
Thanks in advance for everyone's feedback/opinions/advice. Critique is allowed.

At the moment just a few Lollipop roms are available for your device and many users reported that they get no signal / network connection with them. I don't have a m4 to test but I suppose its worth to wait until other users report that the basic features work as long as you're not interested in adventures.

Rave: New Phone

This evening I picked up my new HTC Fuze - I'm thrilled!
After a good deal of grief with starting a new AT&T plan with my girlfriend I managed to get my new toy! I rarely will consider taking advice from employees at chain stores but after two visits at Best Buy I was actually very impressed.
On the first visit we were only looking at phones for my girlfriend and I wanted to see if they had any htc touch demo models. After talking to an associate about my interest in android (assuming he would be clueless) he gave me a pleasant surprise in describing the differences between carriers, limitations, status of android port and lots of other things. I've been reading the xda-developers and howard forums for a few weeks now but was still a little gun shy because I didn't feel like I got the whole picture (I'm a knowledge control freak - if I don't feel like I *really* know what i'm talking about - I'm extremely hesitant..). Anyway - he unintentionally convinced me that I wanted the htc fuze with AT&T. But he wasn't actually trying to sell it to me (yea yea.. i know thats the best sales tactic) - he was actually just as interested in android and pda hacking as most of the people here are.
On the second visit - after I had some of my current cell plan issues worked out - we returned to best buy and started a new plan. We worked with some different employees that were equally considerate and gave us the blunt truth about differences in insurance and other things. Sure - they were doing there job - but I never felt like they were jumping on us trying to get us in and out the door.
Anyway - I'm usually a cynic when it comes to chain stores, sales people and cell phone companies in general - but now I would actually recommend Best Buy when looking at a new cell plan or cell phone related questions in general.
Now - on to the hacking and tweaking! I'm gonna try to go a week without any major mods then hopefully I can me functional member of this forum!
P.S. Again - if this is the wrong forum to post in I apologize - I'll try to get with the program. I was just a little over excited and wanted to share with everyone.
P.S.S. And no - I don't work for Best Buy!

You'll want to check out the rom section. Lots of good 6.5 roms, PLEASE read the "flashing your rom for the first time" before you download one.

Yep - definitely will. I can't really afford to brick my phone.. I'll be reading half a dozen tutorials and probably asking a few questions before I dive in.

well, i read the forum for 3 days after getting my phone(used, $180, but still, it's expensive)
the main thing is to flash HardSPL... after that, it's really hard to brick the phone

I couldn't wait a week. Just flash a new ROM and Radio asap. You won't regret it. Try the one in my signature.
Just make sure you read the tutorial on flashing ROMs before you start.
RRE roms
Thumbs up on the RRE rom!
He just updated on the 27th to a newer version, which is even faster than the 921 version. Flashed it this afternoon. They just get better and better!

And i have an HTC Evo 3D , ive always been in to technology , especially Phones , im just ready to take it to the next level and start rooting .
Yeah, I had a blackberry bold 9780 since the day it was released, and I always used to follow this site on android development. But when the Nexus S was released on Rogers, I had to switch, and it took me a while to figure out how to Root the device but I love everything about this phone and technology for that matter.

so In a sense , What does rooting do for you.?
It gives you full control of the phone. One some phones, you can't do some things without root. Like screen shot programs need a level of access to your phone that is only available if you root it.
one of the best parts of rooting is having the ability to use customs roms which add a ton of features to your device. You can also over clock for faster speeds, take screen shots, use custom themes to make your phone look cooler, and a lot more.
Cheers
P.S. if this is good information hit the thanks button
If you want to learn some app development you should check out Cornboyz youtube channel.. i was in your position a couple months ago and that helped me a lot. Theres nothing about rooting there but start at tutorial 1 and its an awesome intro to eclipse and android dev

As a member posted above, it gives you full access to your phone. So you can change the rom, kernal, radio band etc. It's a neat thing to mess around with if your into technology and these types of things.
But do be aware that rooting your phone does void your warranty
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
just search through the whole forum, you'll find many many many information

[Q] Lollipop? Is anyone looking to develop a custom Rom for the Xoom?

I know our Xoom is getting a bit long in the tooth, but it still is one of the finest equipped pieces of hardware out there. I've been using the Omnirom 4.4.4 iteration for many months now, and love it.
How many tablets can you name that have external sdcard,HDMI, and USB capability besides the normative features most tablets have.
I think the Xoom might just might have a very good future with the next iteration of Android, Lollipop. I'd love to be able to
work on this, but if I did it, I'd have to find someone who would loan me a Xoom they have laying around unused for an extended period of time.
I don't know, but the more I think of it the more excited I become.
That's not how it works...... You are a user not a developer.... I will see what can be done when sources come out but no this is a scam! Why get a Xoom if you already have one? From a account with no rom threads started

Wasn't a scam Cameron. I have 1 Xoom that is my primary computing device with anything having to do with mobile devices. I will not have it's useability compromised.
By the way, long ago I wrote code for the Atari ST, STacy and Falcon. In the last few hours I have been able to get a second Xoom from a friend locally (he's not using it, and thought it was bricked-It wasn't, just needed help-I've got working) once I get my friend's Xoom up to speed and brush up on my coding skills I should be able to help.
Honestly, I'm 74 years old and just tired and busy enough that I'd rather not take away from my limited time to become a developer again. At this time I'd like to just be a user and return my friend's fully working Xoom to him
Cameron, It seemed like most of the developers had just gone into hiding and I was hoping to generate interest from the community..
You don't know me, or really know much about me. If you did, you'd know that I wasn't attempting to scam anyone. In fact, saying that my goal was to scam is almost criminal and libelous, but I'm not one to easily take take offense.
Just please don't do a rush to judgement again. Once you make such statements they aren't easily retracted.
I look forward to hearing from you soon. Your friend,
Rob

I am simply a "user" also but I can attest to the fact that I have seen numerous posts from Kingsman1 in other Xoom forums and he is always there to help others with questions or problems they are having with their tablet.

Thanks for the vote of confidence my friend. The Lollipop Software Development Kit (SDK) is out there. I think that I'm going to hide and watch(though I am available at any time) as far as development is concerned. There are many of us who need help, including me from time to time. I'll go back to helping when I can.
Blessings to all,
Rob

Since being on IOS since 2011 I haven't used this account ; I got on here to say thank you; you are an inspiration for the ages. As our knowledge and experience becomes "mature" it's good to see that young or wise by years; we can all work together.
By the way,
I do have a second Xoom of my own not, and am running Omnirom 5.1.1 Alpha on it. At the moment, I'm looking to see what it can, and can't do. I hope to be able to help Schischu develop this into a stable, and very complete Rom now. Even so, this alpha is very polished, fast, and smooth.
I think we're gonna love it.
Blessings,
Rob

eager newb seeking experienced android development veteran to learn from

hey, hopefully im posting this in the right section. im still pretty new to xda as well as the fascinating world of root access, custom recovery's and roms, and such so please let me know if this post is out of place and i apologize ahead of time if it is.
anyways, as for my original reason for posting to the forum, hi everybody ive somewhat recently discovered the possibilities of root access, custom roms and the like. not long ago i was in the market for a new device and came across an offerup post for a galaxy core prime SM-G360T1 (the metro pcs variant) at the price of $35 obo soo, personally never being the biggest samsung supporter i offered $20 n continued looking for another decent LG to hook up to my metro service. long story short they accepted my offer n deals like that shant b ignored so i purchased said core prime n spent the whole night searching through the xda forums to learn all i could.
soo, here i am now the proud owner of my first galaxy device, a rooted SM-G360T1 with a good working touch version of twrp (my preferred choice in custom recoveries) but, as ive come to discover only one very aptly named custom rom exists for this particular galaxy and though i completely respect its creator for all the time & effort he put into releasing the first working pre-rooted, de-bloated custom rom available for the SM-G360T1, i personally decided to stick with the stock rooted firmware and do the de-bloating and such myself.
ok sry about the mindless rambling there i may have gotten a bit carried away. now, as for my point in posting this in the first place. i wouldnt feel right asking others to solve my little issues for me so im not gunna try to pressure anybody into puttin out more roms for the metro core prime. instead, if at all possible i would merely like to meet someone more experienced and well-versed in the art of android development who might b interested in maybe taking me under their wing so that i might get the opportunity to learn the ways of the code and hopefully one day have all the knowledge necessary to develop my own custom roms, or maybe even eventually get myself a couple of apps that i can b proud of onto the play store.
to summarize, i am but a young aspiring software developer will very little knowlege of or experience with code, tho was raised on home built pcs my whole life so i know my way around a desktop pretty well hardware-wise as well as software-wise, im very willing and eager to learn, whilst having already developed through my previous experiences, a healthy fear of bricking yet another phone which has resulted in an increase in the frequency with which i backup my data, as well as a certain acquired hesitation toward attempting any uncertain actions without first doing the appropriate research on the given subject and im hoping to find someone willing to pass some of their vast knowledge down to me whom i can consider to b my teacher, professor, sensai, master, whichever u prefer, and whom i would never hesitate but to thank and give credit for any and all software that i may one day develop as a result of the lessons they had taught me :victory:
aaaanyways, this post turned out a lot longer than i anticipated so, if uve been able to stick it out and make it this far i am both sry for taking up so much of your time, as well as truly grateful to u for having taken said time to hear me out. well, have a wonderful day everybody and i hope to hear from my future sensai soon. until such time i shall b waiting paitiently thnx again for reading
oh and also just wanted to add that if anybody that knows what theyre doing happens to be in the midst of making/porting any new roms for the SM-G360T1 samsung galaxy core prime metro pcs version and needs any help with like testing or wutever let me know, i got a good twrp nandroid backup ready to b restored n just in case of an emergency i still got odin and the rooted kernel that i used to root it in the first place saved onto my pc

Free htc u11 to a dev for testing purposes

This post is really for a Dev who contributes to this great forum. I am very grateful for the time/money involved providing free tutorials, apps, etc that improves my phone immensely. For that reason I wanted to give back in a meaningful way. Now I have the chance. Recently I purchased a HTC u11 that I do not want. My heart is attached to m9- so I bought another. The u11 is free to anyone that needs it for the good of the community. It is brand new, unlocked, gsm phone with charger and headphone. I just need to know where to send it?

Thanks for being the first to inquire about the phone. Honestly I was wondering if I might need to keep it for the lack of interest. I responded to your question via private message.
thank you!
And my advise is you must post this somewhere else, because:
Any active developer here already has a U11, so they probably dont want 1 more.
Any other developer (dont have U11) would never come here in this sub-forum.
That's why .

Hi, I know the development of the Venom ROM has been slow lately and one of the reasons is the current Viper ROM dev does not have a U11 anymore available for testing, he would be glad to continue development if he had a device he could test on it himself before releasing unfinished development to the community you can contact him directly if you want hi username is @mikalovtch, please consider talk to him if you haven't decided yet to who send the device. thanks in advance!! Also as another option you could become a tester for him with the device yourself if you want to do that.

I second that. As a former Team Venom Beta member I am still happily using Viper on my U11 and I am not intending to give up that phone anytime soon. However, should HTC get their act together and really release a "Working" and hopefully "bugfree" Android 9 ROM, we will need our developer to port the current Viper over to the new Android 9 base. So, I suppose Jean has talked to our developer already (I'm not in touch anymore) and if he really signaled a "yes" to yet another port, I would be more than happy to know he has a phone to work on. Thank you for providing this excellent opportunity.
I was lucky enough to receive a device from a like minded person back in the HTC M8 days, for my firmware testing stuff (which always had a high bricking risk attached to it) and I can only say, such donations enable a ton of work being done here. That is really quite something. Thank you.
