The latest update of JRummy's Droid Overclock app (v. 2.0.2) now allows kernel tweaks under Settings/Advanced Settings.
Options include setting the sampling rate, upping the threshold, enabling normalized sleeper, new fair sleepers and gentle fair sleepers as well as sysctl support.
What do these do?
Has anyone tried them?
Any recommendations for settings?
I can't even run 2.0.2 since it forecloses on me everytime on Fission.
It's Been FC on everybody since update
we will just half to wait for him to fix the problem.

Believe he had a tweet that he had fixed the issue

New update in market fixed fc issue for me. New version is 2.0.3. Although the kernel tweeks still will not set on boot for me.

The tutorial at droidforums.net/forum/liberty-rom-d2/122733-tutorial-sysctl-you-guide-better-preformance-battery-life.html should help explain a bit and he references his source which gives way more info. I applied all of the mods from there to my liberty 1.5 ROM. Haven't noticed much in the way of speed, but I've been using my phone non-stop for the past 2 hours (unplugged when fully charged after mods) and my battery is still at 80%, I'd say it's worth looking into.

This is a paid app. Warez and piracy is not supported on the forum. Please support jrummy and buy the app from the market.

Are we going to see the new 3.0 kernel being implemented on our phones any time soon? Any benefits to this?
Thanks!
The 3.0 kernel is just a renumbering scheme. It was going to be 2.6.40 originally. No major changes.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
No point, there's not much changed that would affect our devices in any meaningful way. Also this would have been 2.6.40.0 or 2.6.40.1 (not sure). I find Linux kernels are not stable enough until they reach the ~20th release. Each new release usually comes with loads of regression bugs
I understand it was supposed to be a different version but besides that point I wasn't sure if it was any faster for us.

3.0 has absolutely nothing major to add, see Linus' post here:
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=OTUwMg
I may compile a fresh kernel for my Slackware laptop though.......just to see how it runs.
???kernel 3???
I read some where this kernel will start bringing native support for arm, wouldnt that be a huge improve to our phones?

Learning about kernal dev my goal is to get wiimotes working on this device.

Urg, I believe that's related to the bluetooth stack, which is frequently not included in the kernel source. It links into the kernel and relies on the kernel.....
I think this should be moved to General until you have something going.
Okay, now I built a kernel and shared it, people are asking me to add things.
First up, should I add BLD?
Vote above!
Build it to your standards once done than you can start adding stuff that users may ask and see how it rides out
Agreed. Stability is top priority then start adding little features. I use BLD on Matr1x V22 bfs but I could live without it. I am going to try yours out soon since V1 is out. Congrats.

I do feel a little bit like if hundreds of people are downloading it, then it's become something more than a personal project.... But then, maybe people are intrested by something a little more stripped out?

That's true. It's out there and a lot of people are going to try it. If something is highly requested than you should consider it. This is young still but it is already growing beyond your personal kernel project. Thalamus and others don't always add things just because people like it. Stay true to what you want... Marmite and all

This poll feels like a loaded question...
Actually I find bld one of the more useful features, but I don't know how much extra work it is and how it affects stability. I remember Franco being opposed to it on stability grounds.

Oh yeah, i remember that too. Bld isn't much work to add though. But i want to keep non critical mods to a minimum.
I'd say it'll never end. You'll add BLD, then someone would want this, after some bickering you'll add it and soon as you'll notice, your kernel is going to be bloated same as the others :]
I actually run 0.6, would flash 0.7 or newer if I oc'd or ever used other governors then ondemand , but it's running so perfectly and smooth as CM9 kernel never did + it has MTP, so I don't want to ruin that experience.
Stability comes first & If BLD affects performance por stability-then No..(I dunno about BLD has some side-effects)
You are an expert, Just stick ur principle..

These are my two cents:
Most installed ROMs are either AOKP, CM9, RASCREAM.
AOKP offers softkey navigation bar ala Galaxy nexus. Some peeps may like it and therefore may want BLD to cancel off the default nav buttons on our nexus S.
I use a variation of AOKP and turned to morfic kernel because of bld, I personally don't use the softkey mod on the ROM but I use BLD to reduce to only half a second for my nav buttons lights to stay on and use LMT launcher to access my menus (this app is pretty handy since it overlays on the side of your phones making your thumb more efficient and fast).... If you have not heard of this app it is here on xda.
That's basically my main use for BLD and the fact I'm actually saving a little more battery. Imagine the fact I'm browsing the web, reading articles and whatnot for two hours straight (I have) the fact I can disable the lights with BLD may indeed save some more juice to our batteries.

Stick with stability, like others have said. You could always do what TerryHau did with his kernel. Have one with some features and the other with those features and a few others added on. Either way, it's your work, dude. Do what you wanna do!
Bedalus question for you: is bld something that can make a kernel instable?
Others have it and they work just fine.

Well Franco said it made things unstable, but i don't think it would with my kernel. It might have been incompatible with some of Franco's tweaks.
1 vote for yes lol ^_^ for me i just want bld nothing more ^_^
Can people interested in testing a BLD version please PM me for a download link?

I just sent a PM request for BLD version to you, Bedalus. Maybe some errors occured? I just can't find any clues of my sent messages. If you see that reply, please give me the link:laugh:

Don't worry, by default XDA doesn't keep your sent messages unless you tell it to. If you click on 'Go Advanced' when sending a message, and look through the checkboxes, you can see one for 'Save a copy to my sent items folder'
Anyway, link sent!
Is there any way to enable or add the option to choose 1000mhz in a kernel seem like it would be a sweet spot for running under clocked. Not opposed to reading and doing it myself if pointed in the right direction.

In which kernel?
What are you looking for - better battery, more stability, something else?

The beanstalk kernel just seems like 1000mhz would just t be more of a sweet spot

Better battery minus lag a lot to ask for i know just want to try it out if you have any tweaks or set up suggestions I'm open

The standard max freq for the infuse is 1200mhz. If you want speed and battery try setting a profile in your cpu manager.
I use SetCPU and set my screen on profile to 1600/ondemand and screen off profile to 400/conservative.. Substitute 1200 for 1600 - this may get you the result you seek.

Not 100% sure on this answer, someone more experienced would need to chime in on this, my experience is limited to compiling Ubuntu generic kernel code just for fun and learning but I believe enabeling the 1000Mhz speed would require obtaining android kernel source enabeling the options you desire using "make menuconfig" in linux (there may be android development programs that could do this in a windows enviorment). and then re compileing the kernel. Heres a tutorial for android kernels http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1748297
