Hi
I have a quite bad bug regarding the camera.
It is distorted badly (like a fisheye effect).

The marked parts (did it with paint )should be straight
and not bending like they do.
Did anybody else encounter this kind of issue?
Anybody? I really don't like to push my own thread but I need my camera!
I have the same thing. Have googled and seems like nobody really cares, which is sad. I have 2 xperia z3 in front of me, one on cm12 (unlocked bootloader) and one on stock. Stock has no issue at all with camera.
Thank you! At least I'm not the only one. I guess the CM12 camera isn't processing the right way (camera sensor related). I installed various other cameras and it didn't help at all.
I even tried to get the stock camera to install on CM (which failed, don't know why, I'm failing knowledge for thus things).
Whether most of the CM users don't realize their camera is broken or there are different kinds of sensors. I recently noticed the infamous light red spot in the center of the picture as well (wasn't there on stock).
Have the same problem... waiting for a fix from cyanogenmod...
same problem on z3 compact with cm 12.1
Same problem. I guess this is due to Sony implementing a distortion correction in their camera app from the start. So I think it's not CM camera that's broken, but it's rather Sony camera that's too advanced.

Actually it's fallout of the whole disaster of cameras breaking when DRM keys were removed back in the 4.4 days with the original rhine family.
Sony has kept using that damn IMX220 sensor with all of the associated DRM stupidity (despite sensors that they sell to other companies like the IMX214 being superior AND not encumbered by DRM bull****), and as a result there has been a constant battle to have blobs that don't break in funktacular ways when the bootloader is unlocked. There is a positive result of Sony constantly recycling the same sensor:
CM's current approach is to use old 4.3-era camera blobs from the Z1 on the entire family of devices with IMX220 sensors. The problem is that while the Z3 also has an IMX220, it has a different lens, and the vignetting/distortion correction of the Z1 HALs is wrong for the Z3.
cdesai was working on getting newer (and more importantly, device-specific) blobs to work, but held off on finishing it as the guys at Sony are trying to get a more AOSP-friendly HAL for all devices released. Unfortunately, this is taking longer than expected, most likely because of lawyers within Sony.
People just don't seem to understand that the camera app rarely has much if any effect on image quality, unless you're using oddball/esoteric features and shooting modes. All of the heavy lifting is done in the camera HALs and support libraries.
At some point when I get the time I want to try and get the camera running in Omni/Sony AOSP using modern HALs based on cdesai's work, but I haven't been really motivated - for a phone to be a daily driver for me, I don't need a camera. (cell phone cameras suck, in fact I intentionally removed the module from my old Treo 650 so I could bring it to work before my company changed policy on phone cameras due to it becoming impossible to buy phones without cameras).
This is very interesting information, so is it likely that Sony will release the necessary data to make the camera fully functional when not using stock ROM? You mentioned about lawyers interfering and that's got me worried!

I've been hearing chatter about it, chatter which has caused people to focus on things other than getting 5.x device-specific blobs working on various Sony devices, but nothing has happened yet and there's nothing concrete. I might take a crack at it in the next few weeks, but I've got higher-priority things at the moment.
To avoid being on the wrong end of someone's lawyers, you often need to get approval from your own lawyers (and/or someone else's). Remember the Nexus 7 factory image fiasco that was the final straw for JBQ and led to his resignation as the AOSP technical lead? Same deal - no one got sued, but various releases got held up due to fears of lawsuits of someone released something without the right approvals. (Note: The Qualcomm/Nexus7 fiasco wasn't JBQ's only reason for quitting, but it was the final straw. Qualcomm took a big PR hit over that although the reality is that as bad as Qualcomm is with stuff like that, Samsung and MTK are far worse.)

It didn't came and i don't know if it will ever come by now.
I bought a Nexus 6 by now.

Well, the camera HAL side of things went up on github last week - but we still don't have mm-camera blobs to my knowledge (unfortunately, mm-camera is where all of the heavy lifting is...). I was on vacation so I haven't had a chance to sync up with Alin to see where things are.

not going to flame, but... tome going from a Z3 to a Nexus is a serious downgrade
Is there anything we n00bs can do to help drive this forward?
I just can't understand it. Sony has the source code which is necessary to build appropriate binary blobs. Technically it should be possible to integrate the corresponding flags and algorithms in a way that custom roms benefit. They have already done it with the Z1. Does anybody know something about the progress ? Does Sony have the intention to enhance their blobs ? Did they mention something about that topic ? It would be nice to hear something new :=)
I am not sure if we can realistically expect MM blobs before sony release there own MM builds. I realise that the concept versions have been in the wild for a while, but thats just not the same.
Would you expect a baker to release a recipe before he has had the chance to sell his bread?
Hi,
for the lens distortion, please try the following parameters for barrel distortion in post-processing.
a="0.0132" b="-0.07765" c="0.14683"
You will find these as a profile in lensfun. Works best for me, cause my z3 was the reference. Hope the lenses don't differ too much.
You can use the free graphicsmagick to apply it.
convert input.jpg -distort barrel '0.0132 -0.07765 0.14683' output.jpg.
All credits go to the lensfun team!

Hi all,
ٍSome of us need front cam on N1 ? BUT HOW ?
Is the production of the front camera is difficult if the idea of connectivity through usb?
Will we see this product in the near future?
Sorry for bad language
... I really don't think so. You should develop and mass produce one, I'd mod my Nexus but I wouldn't put any effort in trying to figure it out myself.
I'm curious as to why "all of us need front cam on N1". I personally would never use it, nor want it.

Same here. I have my laptop with me pretty much all day, so if I really needed to do face to face, I'd just skype someone. Plus, what a battery killer.

It's very simple actually.
You can get it through a simple rewiring process.
It's experimental from what I see... but it *might* just work.

front facing cameras are useless
Thank you for all and some answers were convincing
But my purpose of this subject is to determine what strength to support Nexus one
maybe wrong when I say " all of us "

Perhaps someone will create one that plus into the 3.5mm jack like the square does for accepting credit cards. A small camera that you simply plug into the top of your nexus. Or perhaps a case with the camera built-in that utilized the three pins on the bottom of the phone. However I think most of us are just going to wait awhile longer until a new google phone comes out with a 2ghz processor and a front facing camera built-in. What do you guys think.. 1, 2, or 3?

I have used Nokia phones with front cameras for a couple of years now, latest the Nokia N97 and used ichat a chinese software for video with the front camera, for me its no big deal, you have to use the fone in speaker mode or maybe with a headset, like I said for me its kind of pointless but now that the icrap has it all the idrones think is a great invention, to use it on the Nexus you would need an attachment again I think it is silly and useless, better to wait for the Nexus 2 if it comes with one, but for me its the least feature I want in a fone. but then again I make my calls quick got better things to do then talk on a fone for a long time never mind with video.
my 2 cents
I see my wifes face enough at home why would I want to see it on my phone at work all day.
I certainly don't "need" or "want" a front-facing camera on my phone. My 6-year old Sony Ericsson W900 had one, it got used about twice as a novelty and then never again since. Useless in a noisy environment as you can't hear each-other and also useless in a quiet environment as you have to have it on speakerphone so everyone can hear your conversation.
It's mostly a gimmick and there's a good reason it has never caught on. We certainly don't need this "new" feature that Apple have "invented" just because Steve Jobs says that it's "magical".
We'll I for one would love a front-facing camera for my N1. Whether or not I would use it, is irrelevant. **** I would love a to be able to beam to the moon from my Nexus One, doesn't mean I'll ever use it.
Android to me means freedom which is everything opposite to what Apple is.
Now to OP, I think it is very possible to create a camera that will plug into the microSD in of the nexus one, but then again, to have to plug in and out every time you want to have a video call, would be... annoying, Unless you gonna be doing some late night "skyping", then this application makes sense.
However to my original point, I would love to see the N2 have one.
In Australia we have been getting phones with front facing cameras for many years. No one uses them, the whole video phone idea flopped here years ago.
I suppose to have one, would be something pointless that the phone has, but doesn't get used.
If we are so lucky as to see a nexus two.. (lol since i'm on at&t that will be never).
I would like to think that it would save some money and not have a front facing camra.. Naturally all the ifollowers will be happy and talking about it.. so other companies will add one just to compete..
With that said... I would rather google (or htc, or whoever).. Not put in a front facing camra just for the sake of saving money and adding some other better feature.. Or just passing savings right along to the buyer..
I don't want to take pictures of myself.. I don't want to video chat with other people.... Its not like the crappy camra added is going to be "great" in the first place..
You want a front-facing camera? Here's a FREE way to do it.
1. Go to your Wife's purse
2. Work your way through all the junk and find her compact or whatever that thing is called that has a mirror on it
3. Start whatever video-conferencing app you have on your phone.
4. Hold the mirror behind your phone, so that the mirror is reflecting your image to the camera.
Voilà!
It's been about a year since my optics class, but we had the chance to play around with some right angle prisms. These prisms could be used to reflect light in this manner by total internal reflection:

If this works, you could just hold this in front of your camera, which would reflect your face into the camera. The right angle prism I played with was just about perfect for this. I'll have to see if the professors can loan it to me.
Hey.
So i got a chance to trade my used Oneplus one for a used Sony xperia z2 like new with all accessories sealed and the dock head to head.
What do you think I should do and why?
If you have experience with both please elaborate! What's better and what's worse?!
Thx.
Nope. No need to list pros and cons, it's a step backwards in every respect, you'd be trading down.

The only things I would consider you would 'gain' are the dust proof and water resistance features, sd card slot (although like most phones its has a measley 16GB internal which isn't much for apps after the OS is taken out of it). With the OPO you have the benefits easy bootloader unlocking and the development community which is up there with nexus devices. Plus you have a CM based stock ROM right out of the box, faster updates without any bloat and further updates that OPO keep bringing ie the RAW functionality, MaxxAudio and much more to come with CM12S and OxygenOS, so as timmaaa says its a step backwards, unless you have some major preference for Sony devices.

Tell me you are joking!
I had a Z2 for work, it is a really good phone. The screen is more vibrant, and the camera is just as good, if not better. You also get AOSP which is pretty cool, even though stock Sony Android isn't too bad.
You gain:
Probably better camera, although tastes differ
Nicer design, although tastes differ
Better build quality
Dust and water proofness
Nicer screen
MicroSD card slot, expandable storage
A better rounded, properly QA'd stock ROM experience
You lose:
Allround-hassle-free bootloader unlock experience of OPO (Sony is usually unlockable, you do lose DRM keys (and thus some features) doing it though; reversible if you take a backup prior to unlocking)
A bit larger dev community (number of custom and custom-custom ROMs)
64GB internal storage
RAW camera output
Tie:
CM and PA also on Z2
Sony also has audio EQ and such stuff, nothing lost actually rather won, IMO Sony does it even better than CM folks do
Battery probably comparable. Sony is outstanding, but so is OPO.
Stick with the opo, it's better. At the end of the day the opo is better in development department. Trade it only if you do not root and do not flash custom roms. Then the opo is nothing for you and go for the z2.

"Every respect" is a bit extreme. To be fair, it's more like a step sideways rather than backwards. At a glance, they both sport:
Snapdragon 801
3 GB RAM
1080p displays
3000+ mAh batteries (OPO is 3100, Z2 is 3200)
The camera and flash are a bit hard to compare. Sony's is an all-Sony unit, but the OPO only has a Sony sensor. The rest is made by Sunny Optical, who are known more for their cost-to-performance ratio rather than overall quality. Also, the OPO's dual LED flash gives minimal advantage, if any. The Z2's larger sensor compensates for the lack of dual LED flash.
64 GB of internal storage vs. 16 GB + expandable are both good in their own ways, but I'd personally choose the latter over the former because I've never used up 16 GB worth of apps. It keeps system and user data separate, and if the phone completely dies at least you can just take out the MicroSD.
The transition from StyleSwap to an all glass and metal construction is a big step forward. Sandstone Black is by far the least durable material choice ever on a smartphone I've used. It has only been 6 months, and it's already showing signs of wear. Under the same usage conditions, none of my previous phones wore out so quickly.

Sandstone Black certainly is unique, but I have a feeling OnePlus made the most wear-prone the most common one so you'll buy their replacement StyleSwaps. And if you buy a non-standard finish like bamboo, it will cost the same as (if not more than) buying a replacement screen assembly for the OnePlus One. It makes no sense, and it makes even less sense given that bamboo StyleSwaps are continually being manufactured, so it's not a supply thing.

The Z2's camera is definitely better than the OPO's hardware-wise (sensor is larger, higher MP count, probably better optics too), and don't forget the Z2 also has a physical camera button. Just open up the viewfinder on both the Z2 and OPO, put them side-by-side, and observe the difference in viewfinder responsiveness, white balance and exposure accuracy/appropriateness. I find the advantages of RAW to be minimal at best. In most instances I would prefer not to mess around with RAW and just get the picture right the first time around.
You didn't mention the true stereo speakers! The OPO's [dual mono] are louder, but the Z2's have a better range thanks to a larger continuous enclosure.
I owned a Z1 compact before the OPO and still love it very much. I previously owned a Z, which I also still own. I have had time to play around with a Z2 and also a Z3. The steps Sony makes from revision to revision are - keep in mind it's only ever half a year between models - impressive for the time gap. The more recent Sony devices are truly impressive and very refined devices, definitely.
Personally, if I were presented with your offer, I would probably make the jump, although I really like the OPO the Sony device is definitely more refined. Brand new it does cost about twice what the OnePlus costs though, that must be kept in mind Value for money, I think the OPO beats every device on the market. Value alone, there's better offerings and, all around, I consider the Z2 to be one of them.
Anyway, you have a quite extensive list already of the pro and the con's of each device. If the con's do not matter that much to you and you really do like the pro's, then do the swap. If not, stay with the OPO. Quite simple
So I repeat, I really like my OPO, I won't trade-in my OPO for anything any time soon, but if I were presented with the chance to swap for a Z2 at no costs, I'd hands down do it. But that's just me.
Hello everyone,
I am planning to get the Xperia Z5 (Dual)
Is it worth it to buy this phone in 2016 (December)
- How is the hardware?
- The Software?
- I think i won't be flashing any rom but i will flash mostly audio mods
- What colour is great in your opinion?
Many Thanks for any feedback given
within SONY v/s SONY , from 2015 to 2016, from Z series to now X series , there hasn't much changed. accept few reports that xperia X software is much better and ram management is faster. (perhaps) but what hands on xperience i had, I found X pretty much same as Z5
when SONY v/s others. SONY is very expensive and one can carefully say it almost inclining toward unfair trade deal where price v/s hardware is concern!

Pls don't troll this forum!
The z5 is a great phone all round, the build quality is super, pretty good camera, batteery life is not bad, waterproofing is awesome and it sorta makes the phone feel undestructable.I purchased it last year new I got the gold color which looks nice but I also like the graphite black one too.
If you are planing on dropping 500$+ I would wait till ces or mwc 2017 where Sony will release its next flagship along with the smarthwatch 4.
What sorta makes me sad is that there is still not a lot of development support for the z5 from Sony, it sorta grinds my gears that Xperia x get the nougat preview and the z5 doesnt, heck even the z3 got marshmellow before us witch is confusing to me why Sony is ignoring z5 users.
Overall, hardware is great. Battery could be better.
Software is OK too, but since Z5 is over a year old, it's gonna get updates after XZ and X series. And probably the next update would be it's last.
I have a green one but I think black is better.
At the end, if you don't care about waterproofness, I'd suggest you to buy Xperia X. It's newer and better in many aspects.

Nice review there, perhaps i might consider the z5
I don't know the exact temperature but sometimes it gets warm and only gets hot in heavy games which I'd say is normal.
And another thing I like to mention about the hardware is that the back glass isn't quite even with the metal frame, so you would feel the sharp edges of the frame when holding the phone. In other words, the metal frame is a hair thicker than the phone itself. You might not see that in the pictures but you'd certainly feel it. I'd say it's a design flaw but nothing you can't live with.
guys ill let me know u something...i had z5 and i was satisfied with the stock one.but then i had problems with heating and poor camera perfomance but then i bought galaxy s7 and yea i can say that it kills the z5 camera in speed and sharpnes but thats almost all...so i was using sgs7 for 4 months and gues what i gave it to my father and he gave me back my old z5 and then i saw that there are some roms and mods for this fella and of course i went for it so now im happy z5 user with bootloader unlocked rooted with camera and sound mod and yea lets dont forget the thermal mod witch is for me the best mod ever made for z5 becouse of this mod phone works like a charm...cheers guys hope i cleared someones mind
Ive had the Z5 for a while and it literally never gets hot though I dont stress the cpu with games or pi calculations to 15M
Camera is terrible with DRM enabled but it has almost perfect sharpness when DRM isnt working (-.- good job sony)
The camera is actually very good once you disable DRM but that does result in a instantly voided warrenty once you unlock the bootloader.
Personally I dislike over-saturation and i perefer richer colors to brighter colors

I agree. Although I think it may be by design. My Z5 is far less scratched on the back ans easier to grip then my Z3.
The Z3 battery gives me 2 full days with my usage, the Z5 gives me 1!

the cameras post processing is messed up, instead of it sharpening the picture and reducing the noise it over-does it and creates the oposite result (this didnt happen on 5.1.1 but does on marshmallow)
without DRM enabled the camera seems to be near perfectly sharpened on MM which I personally was quite happy about.
I've seen a few threads discussing this issue and even xperiablog picked it up today.
But in the end, I think what's most important is how general users see and feel about it.
So I'd like to hear your voice.
Note: No need to prove anything. You can be completely subjective
Added: XZs has the same camera and the same issue, so XZs users are also welcome to participate. as well!

I personally haven't noticed it in any of the pictures I've taken so far, but I don't take a ton of pictures either. I have noticed that if you don't give it ample time to focus the pictures turn out terrible. The focus isn't as fast as advertised in my experience.

There are some interesting explainations about this.
Haven't seen any distortion whatsoever. I tried taking shots of grids to reproduce. Do you have to be a certain distance? I'm very happy with the camera so far.
Does anyone know a way to minimize distortion?
Quote from XperiaBlog comment:
I recently became the proud owner of an Xperia XZ Premium. I spent this morning trying to fix distorted images of a lighthouse with what should have been a straight horizon. Then I read this article.
I contacted Sony and told them about the problem, and they gave me a fix. I've been told in the settings, under Superior auto, scroll down to the More options. On Auto-capturing select Smile Shutter. (Actually, they asked me to reduce the resolution to 17Mp 16:9 before setting to Smile Shutter - then I could change back to 19Mp 4:3 - not sure this is necessary.)
I'm very sceptical, but over the next couple of days I shall try and get back to the coast for a decent horizon with which to test it.

hardware issue for sure ,sony should at least fix as much as possible like Samsung
Forwarding:
samsung start selling their S7&S7e model in March last year, some users feedback camera with distortion issue to the samsung official forum, which is the pincushion distortion just like XZP ,but not bad as XZP level. And samsung developer wrote quick reply which said they will study to fix the problem ,After three weeks the S7&S7E received a new FW upgrade which come with a new camera options SHAPE CORRECTION. Yes,when you focusing still can see the distortion on screen, but saved photo has been corrected close to perfect.

Yeah, I've seen a few photos with person. The distortion is sometimes obvious with even no-liner object.

I got confus, someone said sony looking into it and fix it ,some one said sony will not, which one is it?
If it is not I will get refund, go for a S8 ,I tried it really great quality without distortion.

Omg, this is far beyond acceptable level of distortion....
Very unacceptable
They definitely CAN fix this with software and hopefully they will, although I wouldn't get my hopes up as the XZs has the same problem and it still isn't fixed.
phoneArena picked up the issue as well.
http://www.phonearena.com/news/User...emium-camera-distortion-Sony-responds_id95285
Hope other sites follow so that SONY reconsider their response.
I have taken lots of photos, I can reproduce it when trying, like taking a close up photo of my black framed posters, they look bent. But normal everyday photos I was taking look great to me, one I took I thought would be a good example, the flags are pretty straight as they were in real life (they are in the ground at a sort of "U" not lined up straight in real life also as seen in the photo), while other people photos they would of been tilted. Another phtos shows the trees and stuff in the background look as they were in real life also, everything seems normal. I know It is unacceptable from what others are experiencing and I'm pretty sure Sony will get some sort of fix out for people, but it seems others are more affected than other people. I really cant complain about the photos I got out of it so far.

see this you will know
see this sony official dancing woman's photos (above photo)from XZP you can find in your phone,The distortion has been already there very serious, just that wall have bad workmanship make you think it is.Do a anti color you will see the serious distortion just absolutely same as XZP distortion map below .( borrowed from other user analysi post)
look at the merger photo here you will see the coincide curve line. You know what is the most coincidence part that this little woman's head and body just inside the blue box area where have less distortion.XZP review online they all took photo from long distant landscape,no close-range or people so we can see the issue very coincidental .S PHONE and IPHONE review usually have close range shoot and close portrait.
See this official photos.Whether use any angle to shoot these light bulbs should be regular spherical, rgiht ?! But the one closest to the yellow safe area has been distort absolutely serious already.I'm not saying that wide angle don't have distortion, But this level ..........!This is definitely not a photographer and perspective problem. Also the "curve line" certainly affected distortion.
Now the light bulb photo and map explained why my photo will be seriously deformed ,and also explained that no matter what angle and composition I try I can't get one normal photo .Explained that why I use a 4:3 scale will have even more elongate head, also more and more in single person photo like below. (borrow from other user) Exactly same issue like my traveler's photos, which they Complained about.
This is not an ordinary perspective and wide-angle problem or what ever industry standards is.More like a failed lens design ,what is the point to use the lens like that ? Mobile phone camera should be to allow users to take pictures more easily than professional camera. Most users will not use the phone to shoot master style landscape photos. Most of them are normal shooting for ordinary live photo. If this phone designed for some landscape and flowers which are random shape please put it in the ad and packaging. Also even the landscape you can see the distortion easily than other phone.
My old note5 and the new S8 I tried ,Safe area it is roughly in green box see above photo.
I see the user here said that if cut some pixels may be able to get less distortion. If so, I would agree and accept too.And also like Samsung make a late correct option on software would be grateful.
Can you post the link to the original SONY photo? Just wanna make sure if it's from XZP

Its been few months since relase and tons of updates, but still, no updates for the camera. How is that possible?
I remember, that S21 Ultra got plenty of camera updates straight out of the box. There was neither one camera update for our S22 Ultra.
Do you think its still coming or we should accept camera as it is ?
If you haven't noticed updates can and do break things. Do you have specific issues?
Invariably Samsung will issues updates for the cam. Unless there's a gross firmware issue(s) the improvements may be more superficial and likely not greatly increase performance.
The more that Samsung seems to emphasize their phone's cam performance, the greater the overall decline in their product. Sammy is drowning in their own hype marketing bs. 2 years straight of not hitting the mark with their flagship phones in my opinion.
This N10+ in my hand isn't small or light but the S22U is bigger, heavier, thicker with a worse display/bevel ratio.
Worse, no expandable storage, SOT isn't better, spen on the wrong side again, in actual usage only barely faster and that all goes to pieces once the ram loads up. Now there are reports of cam issues coming out that appear to be with the optics of the N22U.
Updates will fix some of these issues but not most. Samsung, innovative ball dropping.

What specific issues are you having with the camera? I haven't experienced any problems with taking quality photos. I don't think there is a need for updates unless there are known issues.

This Blackhawk character has been on Note 10's d**k since it dropped and has spammed literally hundreds of threads, where he's just ****ting on every subsequent Samsung release. I think we should get a fundraiser together to get him a new phone. I feel like he can't afford a new one and needs his self worth validated by claiming the Note 10 as the only viable Samsung phone out there It's quiet sad and comical at the same time at this point honestly.

Exactly! I called him out a while back and the moderators deleted my response and basically said dont feed the troll.
Yet they do nothing to stop the trolling. I come here to participate on a forum about my phone and every day the troll with the annoying avatar shows up espousing the virtues of his N10+ and how superior it is to anything else. He's not the only one either but he's certanly the most annoying.

It has issues (towards end of vid)... and so does Android 11 and 12.
Members are posting a crappy blur pattern when trying to simply make a copy of a letter with it too. We'll see what's up when the updates and the dust settles. Regardless it's not not getting a better form factor, any lighter or any more memory. It can never boast a 1.5 tb dual drive or have the advantages that confers.
Actually I did get a new phone half year ago
To be frank I'm napalming Samsung for screwing up again. No token trophies.
