What to expect from this phone? - Need Suggestions - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
I am planning to get the Xperia Z5 (Dual)
Is it worth it to buy this phone in 2016 (December)
- How is the hardware?
- The Software?
- I think i won't be flashing any rom but i will flash mostly audio mods
- What colour is great in your opinion?
Many Thanks for any feedback given

within SONY v/s SONY , from 2015 to 2016, from Z series to now X series , there hasn't much changed. accept few reports that xperia X software is much better and ram management is faster. (perhaps) but what hands on xperience i had, I found X pretty much same as Z5
when SONY v/s others. SONY is very expensive and one can carefully say it almost inclining toward unfair trade deal where price v/s hardware is concern!

Dont buy z5 heats too much sometimes unable to hold, poor camera at night

The z5 is a great phone all round, the build quality is super, pretty good camera, batteery life is not bad, waterproofing is awesome and it sorta makes the phone feel undestructable.I purchased it last year new I got the gold color which looks nice but I also like the graphite black one too.
If you are planing on dropping 500$+ I would wait till ces or mwc 2017 where Sony will release its next flagship along with the smarthwatch 4.
What sorta makes me sad is that there is still not a lot of development support for the z5 from Sony, it sorta grinds my gears that Xperia x get the nougat preview and the z5 doesnt, heck even the z3 got marshmellow before us witch is confusing to me why Sony is ignoring z5 users.

Overall, hardware is great. Battery could be better.
Software is OK too, but since Z5 is over a year old, it's gonna get updates after XZ and X series. And probably the next update would be it's last.
I have a green one but I think black is better.
At the end, if you don't care about waterproofness, I'd suggest you to buy Xperia X. It's newer and better in many aspects.

Waterproof is something i need in my "phone upgrade checklist"
Perhaps i will consider the Z5 (black) or maybe gold

Nice review there, perhaps i might consider the z5

I don't know the exact temperature but sometimes it gets warm and only gets hot in heavy games which I'd say is normal.
And another thing I like to mention about the hardware is that the back glass isn't quite even with the metal frame, so you would feel the sharp edges of the frame when holding the phone. In other words, the metal frame is a hair thicker than the phone itself. You might not see that in the pictures but you'd certainly feel it. I'd say it's a design flaw but nothing you can't live with.

guys ill let me know u something...i had z5 and i was satisfied with the stock one.but then i had problems with heating and poor camera perfomance but then i bought galaxy s7 and yea i can say that it kills the z5 camera in speed and sharpnes but thats almost all...so i was using sgs7 for 4 months and gues what i gave it to my father and he gave me back my old z5 and then i saw that there are some roms and mods for this fella and of course i went for it so now im happy z5 user with bootloader unlocked rooted with camera and sound mod and yea lets dont forget the thermal mod witch is for me the best mod ever made for z5 becouse of this mod phone works like a charm...cheers guys hope i cleared someones mind

Ive had the Z5 for a while and it literally never gets hot though I dont stress the cpu with games or pi calculations to 15M
Camera is terrible with DRM enabled but it has almost perfect sharpness when DRM isnt working (-.- good job sony)
The camera is actually very good once you disable DRM but that does result in a instantly voided warrenty once you unlock the bootloader.
Personally I dislike over-saturation and i perefer richer colors to brighter colors

I agree. Although I think it may be by design. My Z5 is far less scratched on the back ans easier to grip then my Z3.
The Z3 battery gives me 2 full days with my usage, the Z5 gives me 1!

Do you really mean what you wrote? Camera is better WITHOUT drm functioning?
Seems really strange to me. As far as I can say, it's not sharp but I never heard that sharpness appeared after unlocking the bL

the cameras post processing is messed up, instead of it sharpening the picture and reducing the noise it over-does it and creates the oposite result (this didnt happen on 5.1.1 but does on marshmallow)
without DRM enabled the camera seems to be near perfectly sharpened on MM which I personally was quite happy about.

Lenovo K900 thoughts

Didn't find a Lenovo K900 thread anywhere, on any site as a matter of fact, so I'm starting one. First phone from a Chinese company to get me excited. I'm still leery of ZTE and Huawei, but Lenovo has been making Thinkpads for several years now so I'll bite. This phone looks amazing, especially the diamond pattern. It's super blocky, but its so thin at under 7mm it makes it look really cool. The frame around the black glass front really makes it stand out in its own unique way. It even has a microSD slot. A big middle finger to all those other unibody phones that keep on saying no microSD is the future. The only thing I don't like is the look of the speaker grille. There's also a 13MP camera by Sony. Hopefully it is the new Exmor RS and not the old R. If it is the RS, it's kind of weird that Sony is not making their own sensor exclusive, and instead sharing the limelight with Lenovo on the same show. The Lenovo one is even thinner. Did I mention it has a 5.5" 1080p IPS screen?
Here's a fun video where the rep makes a bunch of mistakes. Poor guy confuses sim card with microSD card and internal storage with internal RAM. He also does this Sarah Palin-esque jumble of words about how he personally loves the phone, its good for low lighting, because he's a power user, and a whole bunch of other stuff that aren't necessarily connected. Does it in all the other videos too. Gotta dig how he says that 5.5" is the perfect size.

Here's a comparison with the Galaxy Note 2. Its a little bit taller, but looks a little bit less wide, if not the same.

Since you want thoughts, I have to say that IMO that's one of the ugliest phones to date. The shiny back thing worked well on phones like the Nexus 4 but on that it looks absolutely awful. From a specs standpoint it seems pretty decent, although I don't think it's any better than the Xperia Z or ZL (whichever one's better lol). The Xperias are infinitely better looking, too. However, as stated in the comments of the youtube comparison with a GNote 2, phablets are pretty pointless without some sort of special S-Pen like functionality.
I like the metal and those screws which make it look solid and upmarket even though being so slim. The diamond pattern version is not for me, although it does look like those engine turned instrument panels on pre-war Mercedes'. Performance wise I've seen initial benchmarks which look impressive. It does need an S-pen. At the moment the Note 2 is my favourite phone even though Samsung is using far too much cheap looking plastic.

Congratulations! Nicely designed hardware (the simple stainless version), unfortunately with really tacky overlay, but nothing that a good launcher can't help, I hope.
I just ordered one
Is the K900 definitely a WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100 phone? Most specs mention only 2100 for 3G, some add 900, but one of the shops confirmed, when questioned specifically, that the K900 covers WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100. This is important for the US users (and here is what Lenovo seems to be distributing: http://www.letsgomobile.org/images/news/lenovo/lenovo-smartphone.pdf)
How do you like it so far?
What is the battery life?
What is the camera like in low light?
I also have the HTC One Developer Edition on order, but will probably cancel it (the f/1.8 lens on the K900 was the tipping point for me, hope it's great not just on paper).
Also, does it have FM transmitter?
Most of the chips with FM receivers include a transmitter as well, just curious if there is an app on the K900 for the transmitter.

k900 and iphone 5 have their own strengths,in your link to zol.com.cn ,they show that iphone 5's photo is better at night, but ,Lenovo K900 is still very stable from the comparison of outdoor , indoor , macro , panoramic night view of these aspects , whether it is indoors or outdoors, Lenovo K900 can be very accurate in place to restore the colors and details . iPhone 5 because of its usual " automatic " style ,adjust the photo color , brightness to compare to please the eye , but During panorama shooting iPhone 5 " automatic " loss of efficiency , a significant drop in the brightness of the screen .

Sure, the K900 has an overall fine camera with great wide aperture and hopefully the software side will be tweaked to make the shots better.
Thanks for the photos in the rooting thread you've started, it a great-looking phone.
Have you figured out if the phone has radio transmitter (so that you can stream music to FM frequency on your car radio, for cars without A2DP receivers)?
Also, have you come across any documentation on the 3G bands enabled (850 and 1900 are of particular interest)?
Oh, and can you get through the day without a recharge (with "normal" use)?
Thanks.
guys frankly before ordering i was thinking this is the best phone in the world in this price range but after i used it for 1 month ive realised that firstly..camera is good but it needs some settings every time.....guyz im not a developer but i guarantee u with roms like cm or miui this big beast will turn to a monster...problems is in its software"lenovo UI"..I WOULD APPRECIATE IF SOMEONE WOULD PORT ROMS ON K900

you should make a poll as well it will be able to sort out the answers a whole lot easier
but im sure as you already know posting a question like this in a htc forum your going to get more HTC votes than SONY and the other way around in the sony forums
i have been following both phones very closely and i am going with the HTC now. the screen, camera, audio, and processor all look to be in the favor of htc
My main problem with the One and the one that makes me look more to the Z....the "iPhone 5 problem"
scratches happen....if you dont want a scratch get a case...i would love to see a phone thats been dropped or banged and still doesnt have a scratch on it a year later....who knows where that pic came from it could of been a demo unit which 100 people picked up
im sure the all glass body of the XZ will break far easier than the metal body of the htc one
edit: actually looking at that pic it is the demo unit that everyone tested out at today's event....im sure it saw it share of rough handling

Don't agree with you!
First you have at least 2 videos of very bad treatment to the Z and it was perfect after that!
Second this is not the event phone, so don't try to make excuses! This is a German unit and it not passed through 100 people nor is a year old!
This is simple:
HTC made a beautiful phone that has se same problems the iPhone 5 has...scratches to easy!
Personally, I don’t want a cover to make it even more thick...it already has 9.3mm!
And in the XZ you can easy use only screen protectors for scratches and in the HTC would feel odd on the aluminum and the screens cannot protect the rounded edges!
Just put my deposit on the Sony Xperia Z after the specs announcement of the HTC One (M7), no sdcard slot or low network support.
I have seen people rubishing the screen, but to be honest with my hands on, it looks just great to me, photos looked great in the real world and the movies looked stunning. I was shocked how light the phone was aswell, super snappy. If I was to complain about any feature of the phone, the headphone jack waterprrof cover doesn't look like it will last long using it every day.

Im getting the XZ and then buying the Xperia Phablet to come with it in H2 )
m7 looks great.
Just waiting on what the s4 delivers.
Id love to get both but they will cost over 1400 or so.
March availability for the m7 and s4 announcement the same month.

This.
IMO
HTC One advantages -
Screen
Body
Camera
Sound quality
Fastest processor
Sony Xperia Z advantages -
Waterproof
Dev friendly
MicroSd Card
I would really wish Samsung would incorporate all these advantages into the S4, but I'm sure the most obvious let down we'll see is the plastic body and being not dev friendly.

I am comparing the features too, but being Dev Friendly is not on the list for the Xperia Z.
And the HTC One supports 802.11AC.
Seems like the HTC One will be a better choice for me, the next most important factor will be the price difference.
Still waiting for the Xperia ZL as of right now. But like what I said weeks ago if I won't see any ZL like sony promised coming the first quarter of 2013 then HTC M7 would be the one I'll buy. Anyways I really love sense UI and I don't have any problems with HTC.
I was dissappointed about the unremoveable battery of HTC One since I know sense is a battery hog. But seeing a Lithium Polymer battery on board this made me reconsider this device
LiPoli and Lithium ion batteries are practically the same capacity wise but LiPoli batteries tend to have more charge discharge cycles compare to Lithium Ion.
I have here a Xperia Pro(2011) model which uses LiPoli battery and for almost 3 years now it's capacity didn't even wear for even a little bit. Still kicking a 6hour video playback on gingerbread stock Xperia ROM considering it's only a 1500mAh battery.
So here's my consideration list as of now:
1st Xperia ZL
2nd HTC M7
3rd Nokia 3310
4th Samsung Galaxy S IV

Xperia Z2 and Oneplus one

Hey.
So i got a chance to trade my used Oneplus one for a used Sony xperia z2 like new with all accessories sealed and the dock head to head.
What do you think I should do and why?
If you have experience with both please elaborate! What's better and what's worse?!
Thx.
Nope. No need to list pros and cons, it's a step backwards in every respect, you'd be trading down.
Transmitted via Bacon
The only things I would consider you would 'gain' are the dust proof and water resistance features, sd card slot (although like most phones its has a measley 16GB internal which isn't much for apps after the OS is taken out of it). With the OPO you have the benefits easy bootloader unlocking and the development community which is up there with nexus devices. Plus you have a CM based stock ROM right out of the box, faster updates without any bloat and further updates that OPO keep bringing ie the RAW functionality, MaxxAudio and much more to come with CM12S and OxygenOS, so as timmaaa says its a step backwards, unless you have some major preference for Sony devices.

Tell me you are joking!
I had a Z2 for work, it is a really good phone. The screen is more vibrant, and the camera is just as good, if not better. You also get AOSP which is pretty cool, even though stock Sony Android isn't too bad.
You gain:
Probably better camera, although tastes differ
Nicer design, although tastes differ
Better build quality
Dust and water proofness
Nicer screen
MicroSD card slot, expandable storage
A better rounded, properly QA'd stock ROM experience
You lose:
Allround-hassle-free bootloader unlock experience of OPO (Sony is usually unlockable, you do lose DRM keys (and thus some features) doing it though; reversible if you take a backup prior to unlocking)
A bit larger dev community (number of custom and custom-custom ROMs)
64GB internal storage
RAW camera output
Tie:
CM and PA also on Z2
Sony also has audio EQ and such stuff, nothing lost actually rather won, IMO Sony does it even better than CM folks do
Battery probably comparable. Sony is outstanding, but so is OPO.
Stick with the opo, it's better. At the end of the day the opo is better in development department. Trade it only if you do not root and do not flash custom roms. Then the opo is nothing for you and go for the z2.

"Every respect" is a bit extreme. To be fair, it's more like a step sideways rather than backwards. At a glance, they both sport:
Snapdragon 801
3 GB RAM
1080p displays
3000+ mAh batteries (OPO is 3100, Z2 is 3200)
The camera and flash are a bit hard to compare. Sony's is an all-Sony unit, but the OPO only has a Sony sensor. The rest is made by Sunny Optical, who are known more for their cost-to-performance ratio rather than overall quality. Also, the OPO's dual LED flash gives minimal advantage, if any. The Z2's larger sensor compensates for the lack of dual LED flash.
64 GB of internal storage vs. 16 GB + expandable are both good in their own ways, but I'd personally choose the latter over the former because I've never used up 16 GB worth of apps. It keeps system and user data separate, and if the phone completely dies at least you can just take out the MicroSD.
The transition from StyleSwap to an all glass and metal construction is a big step forward. Sandstone Black is by far the least durable material choice ever on a smartphone I've used. It has only been 6 months, and it's already showing signs of wear. Under the same usage conditions, none of my previous phones wore out so quickly.

Sandstone Black certainly is unique, but I have a feeling OnePlus made the most wear-prone the most common one so you'll buy their replacement StyleSwaps. And if you buy a non-standard finish like bamboo, it will cost the same as (if not more than) buying a replacement screen assembly for the OnePlus One. It makes no sense, and it makes even less sense given that bamboo StyleSwaps are continually being manufactured, so it's not a supply thing.

The Z2's camera is definitely better than the OPO's hardware-wise (sensor is larger, higher MP count, probably better optics too), and don't forget the Z2 also has a physical camera button. Just open up the viewfinder on both the Z2 and OPO, put them side-by-side, and observe the difference in viewfinder responsiveness, white balance and exposure accuracy/appropriateness. I find the advantages of RAW to be minimal at best. In most instances I would prefer not to mess around with RAW and just get the picture right the first time around.
You didn't mention the true stereo speakers! The OPO's [dual mono] are louder, but the Z2's have a better range thanks to a larger continuous enclosure.
I owned a Z1 compact before the OPO and still love it very much. I previously owned a Z, which I also still own. I have had time to play around with a Z2 and also a Z3. The steps Sony makes from revision to revision are - keep in mind it's only ever half a year between models - impressive for the time gap. The more recent Sony devices are truly impressive and very refined devices, definitely.
Personally, if I were presented with your offer, I would probably make the jump, although I really like the OPO the Sony device is definitely more refined. Brand new it does cost about twice what the OnePlus costs though, that must be kept in mind Value for money, I think the OPO beats every device on the market. Value alone, there's better offerings and, all around, I consider the Z2 to be one of them.
Anyway, you have a quite extensive list already of the pro and the con's of each device. If the con's do not matter that much to you and you really do like the pro's, then do the swap. If not, stay with the OPO. Quite simple
So I repeat, I really like my OPO, I won't trade-in my OPO for anything any time soon, but if I were presented with the chance to swap for a Z2 at no costs, I'd hands down do it. But that's just me.

Nexus 6P tpu case spotted

Spotted this on amazon.

I can't wait for this phone... 810 or not.
Waiting to see what the other cases will look like.
And interesting lock screen image they have on there.. is that what it's going to look like?
That seems like the Emotion UI from Huawei.
Marshmallow is almost the same as Lollipop.
(I guess you can flash Emotion UI anyway, or just port the lock app )
thats just a faux image, it doesnt have the hump on the back which is shown in every previous leak. just a placeholder image dude

Ok. I was only curious.
And I never mentioned the hump on the back.
But the CASE shows it has room for the hump.

That case doesn't have any room for a hump. The camera, mic and fp scanner are in the right spot tho (according to the leaks) just missing the hump. The leaks could have been a a early prototype tho. We'll see on the 29th

True indeed....the camera and sensors are in the right spot...just missing the hump. I hope they got rid of the hump. I really want the phone but will not get it with that stupid hump in there.
They honestly should have kept the nexus 6 moto design. One thing they could learn from apple and Samsung for that matter is to keep a great design and just build on it till its perfect. They could just made shamu smaller and added the fingerprint scanner where the moto symbol was and that's it.

i liked the moto design it was just a tad too big. and i dont mind the huawei stuff. their premium phones look and feel pretty amazing in the hand. and their fp scanner tech is definitely quick to respond and on point. one of the reasons why i enjoy the nexus line so much (besides the glory and awesomeness that is stock android) is that you know the new nexus wont look the same as last years model. it feels like youre getting a brand new phone every year not just an upgrade

That's true about getting a brand new phone....only problem is if the new phone isn't to your liking you end up waiting 2 years for a new device...hence why I'm using a 2013 N5 instead of N6. I like the idea of a new phone every year with an updated model 6 months later.
i guess the images of the case i was looking at (with a small hump where the hump is) fooled me. I mean, am i the only one who sees it?

Guys I don't know what are you saying.. I. Clearly see the hump.
Look at the side images.
The hump is just 2 mm, people got fooled by the contrasting colors in pictures but it's not nearly as bad as it seems..

finally! somebody who bothered to look at the pictures. :victory:
either way you can can clearly see that that photo was shopped. just look at the cut outs. and ill admit that with the new leaks that came out yesterday the hump doesnt look anywhere near as prominent as it did in that 1st leak . i loving the black color though. im already sold on it tbh lol
It's a nexus device, must be original Marshmallow

not my kind of style. I would prefer something as clean looking as this: http://www.amazon.com/REDShield®-Fl...CadrDtL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160,160_
but waiting to see if spigen is going to have anything for the 6p.
Reading the past posts, the op is definitely the 6P case...also if, IF I get one I'm looking at that Verus case on Amazon... pretty slick.
I'm wondering if/when Spigen will release their cases. I almost exclusively buy their cases every year but I always try other brands as well. I'm the end k use Spigen/Ringke slim on a daily basis so I hope they get announced soon
Does anyone know something about Diztronic cases for N6PP

Or Ringke, I'll be happy with either since Spigen said no to the 6P

Does it feel smooth? I'm currently deciding if I should buy this phone or the Mate 20 lite (I'm buying with Tre at the same price), I really like the screen and the camera but the SoC is slower on the A7. As long as it is a smooth UI I'll buy this one, since I'm not that interested in graphics demanding games and CPU intensive apps, I just need it to be usable without lags and random freezes.

Don't buy the Mate 20, i bought one before getting the A7, the screen in the Mate 20 is really bad, has one of the grey "ish" blacks I've seen on any recent phones, my unit also had a problem with hot pixels that were only noticeable on black colors in very dark environments

Is it really that bad? I mean, it's an LCD, obviously OLED screens are better, but I was told and I found online that it's a fairly good LCD for a mid-range phone. Also, I don't really mind the screen, I just need a smooth system, and from experience I know Samsung ones can be quite heavy. On the other hand, after two years and a half of EMUI I'd like something that looks newer, and Huawei has recently stopped providing bootloader codes for free. That said, I'll still keep EMUI if it means that it's smoother.

The Mate 20 has a faster chipset, if your priority is power then i guess that's your best option, having said that, the A7 is a very smooth device, i have not found any stutter or any apps that struggles to handle, i think the experience is very good
i primarily use my phone for media consumption and was very disappointed with the screen and audio quality of the Mate 20, the volume with headphones is below average in volume
this is the way i see it:
Mate 20
pros
faster chipset
feels very premium in hand
cons
screen not as good as the A7
sound volume and quality are below average
has a notch
A7
pros
fantastic screen without a notch
very good audio quality (has dolby atmos)
better camera than the mate 20
is widevine L3 certified so you can watch netflix at full hd
you get always on display
cons
the device is very light in a cheap kind of way,
front camera doesn't have autofocus
the side bezels are a bit bigger than we are used to in 2019, i'll take that over a notch
doesn't have usb type-c
i hope that helps with your decision

Well, thank you very much, I was lucky to find someone who has used both phones.
Also, sorry for the OT!

well, the xiaomi mi A2 is almost half the price of the A7, only $ 180, i don't think is a fair comparison, the A7 is better in every single way but that's to be expected from a device twice the price
if money is not a problem i would go for the A7, if you are on a budget and want to save some money then i guess the xiaomi is a good option, i've never had a xiaomi device so i can't really tell you what to expect

Thanks a lot, a check with Smart Switch revealed that there is an update for the Netherlands as well. I guess for a lot of other European countries tool. Rooted phones will not receive the update OTA, you must manually download it. For that you can use Sammobile.com which is excruciatingly slow however. If it works, use SmartSwitch instead. It is ree, quicker, less of a hassle and you can be sure you get the right version for your phone.

Youre getting a way better camera, super amoled, one ui with a7. One ui is the best skin right now.
Mi a2 has sd660 which is slightly better in gaming and youre getting android one. Better updates.
For me, id go with a7 because of one ui and the camera. Go with mi a2 if you feel like gaming but battery is terrible
