Hello fellow Desire S owners and enthusiasts. I would like to see this happen, I love stock Android and I have been trying for several days to port Nexus ONE ROM 2.3.3 to our device but I didn't have success. So I'm hoping somebody here with more skill and knowledge may do this. I don't really like what HTC is doing to the devices the Sense skinning is only eye-candy and I don't like it one bit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
if you replace the launcher and install the stock apps then youre halfway there, out of interest why did you buy the desire s?
Because I like it's design mostly, I came to it from a Desire HD that one got bricked but it also had Cyanogenmod ROM available and that was very nice. I love the device itself I also had the normal Desire but the battery life was very poor on that one. Anyway, I'll keep trying to get this done.
Is anyone ever going to port a Sense 3.0 rom for the g2x? I've been really wanting to try it lately
NOOB ALERT

If they did it would probaly lag pretty bad since sense is a resource whore. Still i'm not saying it wouldn't be nice to see 1 made for our devices.
OMG I love sense

Sense doesn't make...
Sense would be a huge undertaking for the g2x. HTC sense runs propriety drivers and frameworks. Written to work on HTC hardware. Since the g2x and almost any HTC devices have very little in common that means writing drivers to get it to work. Although not impossible (think hd2 which shared alot of hardware with native Android/HTC phones) it's a huge undertaking and highly unlikely.

When i had the g2 they ported sense 3.0 to it. Watching the progress of them getting it up and running, it was a HUGE undertaking. Took a huge tightly integrated team and HOURS UPON HOURS UPON HOURS X 20 to get it to work. Our dev community just isn't active enough to undertake something like that sorry

The G2 was an HTC-Made device... It had a snapdragon processor as well, just like any other HTC Phone.
HTC Sense has been ported to the Galaxy S Devices before, so it IS still possible on Tegra 2 devices.

G2 is the HTC vision in Europe where it was released with sense, should
of made it a little easier to port the latest sense to it. As far as sense on the g2x never said it wasn't possible, just said it would be a huge undertaking.

I would pitch in at least 10$ for someone to port sense 3.0, anyone else?

man i dont care to give $20+ if they make a sense 3.0 or 3.5 or LG OVERLAY on the g2x that works good stable. just so we can have another choice of flashing roms that are not stock gingerbread. most of all the roms we have are like that.
If and when I have time I would like to try. I don't care about the money, I can't receive it right now anyway. I just want sense. If you guys want LG UI I think that it wouldn't be too hard, so I'll do that first.
go ahead man were 100% pulling for you
Ya that would be awesome, go ahead and try it

Say what? The G2 and Desire Z are virtually the same exact phone and sense was ported to it quicker then you can blink! All they did was change the partitions and remove various apps so sense could fit on the G2's much smaller boot partition.
I'm not trying to imply that the devs did no work, and I for one could never have done it. But, it wasn't thaaaaaat big of a deal. Just sayin'

Do you think it would be possible to base the port off of ports to other Tegra phones?

True, but missing one important fact. Both of those phones are htc phones. HTC sense is has it's own custom framework written for htc phones. Much easier than porting it to a non htc phone. (Not saying it can't be done, but don't dismiss it so fast. )
I recently lost my HD2. I love this phone to death, I was among the 1st one tried out hyperdroib-v12, it was the best rom so far....Wondering what phone should I get this time. Here are some candidates:
Tmobile-G2x
HTC-HD7
Mytouch4G slide
or another HD2 ?
hoping for honest opinions here, pro and con? ...future stable tweak. I personally enjoy fast response, longer battery life, GPS, and user friendly..not so much of a theme, UI guys.
Thanks
i noticed you are a big HTC fan
so i'll suggest HTC Amaze, also called HTC Ruby
it's basically the old HTC Sensation upgraded
nice..thanks, looked it up ...HTC amaze is not being offered from Tmobile at the moment.
Based on what you're looking for, stability, fast response, battery life, GPS, and user experience it'd be wrong to suggest anything but WP7. You can't tweak it much but that's because it doesn't need to be tweaked to exceed android and even iOS in those categories.
wait for the nexus prime ;-)

Hi, I was in a similar situation to you a few weeks back...I replaced a broken HD2 with a new HD7 through Asurion (they were no longer offering the HD2 as a replacement :-( ), and after a few weeks of missing running Android, I bought another HD2 off of ebay for about $170. Now I have the HD2 as my primary phone running WP7 off NAND and Android off SD, and I have the HD7 to play with on the side while we wait for DFT to create an Android hack for that phone as well. The HD7 development is getting close, but it's not quite as far along as I'd like before I'll make the HD7 my primary phone--for me, the HD2 is still the king. I'd get another one of those, if I were you...
Id get the g2x

I have been using WP7 for a few months now and is one of the best phones i've ever had, i recommend you the HD7 you're not going to regret it!!
If you like installing Custom Roms ,Kernels etc. Than get the Nexus S
Or really wait for the Nexus Prime!
The Nexus S is a TOP Smartphone which is also very cheap!
I would wait for Nexus Prime.
i see no reason to put time and resources in a skin when vanilla android is good.
also, customers dont have to wait a year to get there updates,
anyway its a question that has always bothered me.
can anyone give me some info on this matter.
thank you.
I thought the custom skins were good on gingerbread, bringing improved design and extra features, but vanilla ICS is gorgeous and I wish people wouldn't mess with it, or they could give a theme option.
I especially hate touchwiz!

Suggest a way to distinguish them?
Why will you buy the same product if it's already available in market? You won't. So it's very necessary to add personalized touch for each manufacturer.
Think of coca-cola and Pepsi. Same basic ingredient but still different?

To each their own I guess. I love the Sense UI from HTC. I've owned 10 or so android phones from Samsung, Motorola, and HTC, and it's night/day experience between the brands.

Before ICS "vanilla" Android wasn't very good.
The reason is differentiation. If two phones have exact same hardware, what would make you prefer one over the other is the skin. At least the ordinary customer.
Sent from my U8150 using XDA
ordinary people would just look at the design of the phone rather than the specs.
TeeJay might be right that before ics android was not so good.
my first experience with an android phone is with gingerbread and htc sense on top of that.
dont know what it was like before that.
but after playing with a nexus s i already made up my mind.
my next device will be a nexus.
its called differentiation and it's useful to distinguish them from the others. hehe
Hi All:
Did you ever think how the perfect rom should be ?
a Perfect rom for me is a rom which
1- Have CM settings and options .
2- Have the Sense Image Camera App working as stock rom.
3- Heavy duty Battery serving.
4- No bugs or force close.
5- Stable with No mistakes.
What else ??
Is such a rom even exist ??!
I don't know if this wish is so hard to achieve for HTC or any other mobile band company.
for me my problem with the stock sense rom is stability and little amount of setting available for the user, App keep crashing .....
and some thing driving me crazy which it is that I can't turn vibration off when I answer a call because there is no option to do that , HTC team think that every one like this option and they forget that people think in different way and what you love must I hate it.
Come on HTC think again about what you are doing.
Samsung , Sony , HTC ....ect the only thing they care about is to distinguish from each other " I'm using Android but my Android is different than your Android" ..... Just Like Children
In the end I'd like to say that I respect Huawei so much, they offer for the user to use stock Android system and other Huawei UI in case that you don't like the stock Android, other companies should check and learn how to satisfy the customer
I would love a cm10+ Rom with sense camera.. best of both.. don't know if it can be done though.. no bugs etc is a given..

Why don't you try the Viper ROM?
It has the Sense Cam (CM will probably never have it) and you can enable the CM-like quicksettings in the notification bar. It also has pretty good battery life and is also close to having no bugs.
No bugs? Yea dream on, thats never gonna happen as long as its humans who writes the code.
I switched from Viper to CM a few months ago and have been extremely happy with the product. Viper was unfortunately too slow, even when OC. CM10 is extremely smooth and fast, even without a custom kernel for OC. The camera for CM, however, is extremely disappointing. It is not nearly poor enough where I would switch ROMs, but it definitely needs considerable improvement to been anywhere near that offered by any Sense-based ROM.
My vote is for CM with good camera, too.
What about Snap Camera - haven't used it but I've heard good things about it.
Thank you for your replies guys
For me I'm using Viper One S 2.1.0
It is cool rom but .............. still there is no real CM like settings.
In the first place , why we selected an Android phones ............... there is Windows Phone 8, iOS Apple , Nokia Symbian and more....
But our choice was Android, the ability to fully control & customize the mobile.
Stock roms specially sense make alot of limitation and even also with alot of bugs and unstable performance after long process of destroying the real And pure Android !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I believe that Google should put a condition to any mobile company want to use Android which it is offering the customers the freedom between using the Stock company rom (sense ,touch wize samsung ....ect..) or the pure Google Android.
Then we will see how many users will keep using a rom like sense
Liquidsmooth by Droyd is my favourite right now. Fastest rom I've ever used. And it looks stable so far!
Regards!
Sounds like you want a Nexus 4 instead of a One S.

To be honest I don't trust LG and all Nexus 4 issues and I don't think that one day I will buy any thing from LG except the washing mashine , the HTC hardware is amazing but............... software is below average.
It is a matter of open source, all what HTC should do is to provide a fix for camera app in CM and well known roms to satisfy their loyal customers

name a setting in cm that doesn't exist in viper..... besides quiet hours...
you have quick settings, you can change battery icons, you can change carrier txt, you can do MORE than what cm offers actually....
PS since sense is closed source you'll never see sense camera on AOSP it's impossible to do since every app that you see in sense is tied to the framework.
and if you don't like sense go buy a nexus phone... seriously.. sense is great and with dev's like torx he gave you more options than half the AOSP roms have.. and what limitations you're speaking of i'd really like to know, all the included sense apps have 10 times for thought and convienence set that stock aosp.. though i do agree that google should make all oems allow users to choose aosp or oem provided there's a reason they dont.. THATS WHY GOOGLE HAS THE NEXUS BRAND!!!!!
... jus sayin
"If you dont like sense buy a nexus"... What kind of bullsh*t is that?
The HOS is superior in every way except for sense - which can easily be solved with an AOSP rom...

didn't even know that existed... but that's very minute.. you're right htc does make the best hardware, and just because one OEM allows you to choose aosp doesn't mean all will. That's the reason there's a distinction in phone brands... And if you don't like it thats what us developers are here for so we can make tons of aosp options for ya'll

Form factor. The whole point of the One S for a lot of people is to have a slightly smaller phone that allows you to browse comfortably one-handed without adjusting your grip (I'm sure someone will claim they can do the same with a One X or Nexus, but come on... 4.7" is a bit much for a lot of people, let alone 5" in the Galaxy S 4).
Also, build quality in the One S might be a bit better than the Nexus 4 and certainly anything by Samsung. Would love to have an HD screen in this size but the QHD isn't bad. Anything over 250 ppi is fine for my eyes.

That was my thoughts when buying the phone last year. The One S looks and feels unique, and the screen size is perfect for normal phone & texting usage. I had the option to pickup the Galaxy S III for $50 more, but the Sense UI felt smoother to me - not to mention the camera app.
