Hello everyone. I'm somewhat of a noob still and I would appreciate any help you could give me.
I'm trying to install the new OTA update that came out today but I'm having issues. I have a rooted One S with TWRP recovery, and everytime I try to install the OTA update it brings me to the TWRP recovery screen. I'm pretty sure this is because I don't have stock recovery. I've even tried "unrooting" with Voodoo Over the Air root, but it keeps bringing me to the TWRP recovery screen.
I rooted my phone with the All-In-One root kit, and I really don't want to lose everything on my device (or have the pain in the butt of restoring everything). Is there another way? Or is there an easy way to reinstall the stock recovery with the AIO kit? I know the AIO kit has the option to install other recoveries, but I'm not sure where to get the stock one.
Please help! I really want to upgrade.

Scroll half way down and you get a list of different steps you may have to do in order to get it done.
Most include installing "OTA RootKeeper" from GooglePlay
Steps vary from how your phone is setup. Stuff like do you have Root, Custom or stock Mod, or CWM or stock recovery. Check it out. I'm trying it now.
(adding more to it so I don't double post.)
I tried the method with Root Keeper, it doesn't seem to work for me. It also seems as though a few others are having the same issue. Someone recommended use an RUU to go completely stock, therein losing all your data unless you back all that stuff up.
I'm going to avoid an RUU at all costs, I hate having to reset up my phone. Plus I just got a XOOM I need to work more on and get setup so I don't want to put more time on the phone than I have to as to take away time from my XOOM.

Hello. Any stock recovery for Ville C2 (One S s3)? I'm looking everywhere and I cannot find. I want to update to JB with OTA
This post should be inside of this thread, but I do not have 10 posts so I cannot post in the Dev forum
I own a Sensation (4G) and achieved S-OFF with HTCDev and Juopunutbear wire method. I then installed KGS1992 Utility to my desktop (wasn't working when installed in Program Files) and made sure all other windows were closed. I successfully used the utility to install 4EXT recovery. I then tried to Root and this is what happened [screenshot attached]:
On my phone it opens the recovery, opens another program (rooting tools by mike1986), and reboots my phone to the normal screen. I then hit [Enter] because the installation looked complete. The KGS1992 utility prompted me again if I'm sure the installation was completed. I hit [Enter] again but received the error:
"goto was unexpected at this time"
Am I good to go? It seems as though the installation was complete. I haven't closed the command prompt window, and haven't disconnected my phone since the incident. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
EDIT:
Just checked with a root checker app on the marketplace and it says that I do not have root.

What do you intend to do with your phone? If you want to install a custom ROM, then forget about rooting. You have s-off plus 4ext recovery; and custom ROMs are normally pre-rooted.
Otherwise, try simply rooting your stock ROM with ERoot, a program for windows.

I am very new to rooting, but I've been reading threads for a while now trying to understand. And yeah, I would like to install a custom ROM.
Thank you for the help, I am fairly sure I understand now. Is my understanding right that I can go into 4EXT, make a backup of my current factory ROM, download a custom ROM, and replace factory with custom. If this is right, I'll browse for which custom ROM I want now I dislike the factory bloat.

If you ran Sunshine successfully you are now S-off, allowing you to truly and irreversibly brick your phone if you go about customizing it to your liking the wrong way.
Read a lot, use the serach function here on XDA and Google in general with abandon! Ask if you diligently searched for hours but cannot find an answer.
Flash only if you really understand what you are getting yourself into.
Always make backups before you try something new and research how to reverse what you are about to do!
Here are a few terms for you start with:

Thanks! I've done enough poking around to see most of these terms before. I gather I can't do anything after Sunshine without SuperSU, and that TWRP is the next step. Is that right?

With S-OFF and an unlocked boot loader the first step for root would be to flash TWRP recovery via fastboot on your PC. Navagate your way on the phone to boot twrp. After that you can flash superSU. With root you can permanatly uninstall all vzw apps via an app like titanium backup. If you want to go a step further you could flash Clean Rom(pre debloated ROM).
At some point soon your phone will get a OTA(over the air) update if you have twrp installed on your phone you won't be able to update. You will need to backup in twrp. factory RUU your phone(100% back to stock) keep your bootloader unlocked and S-OFF. Take the OTA, flash TWRP, restore your backup..profit! Its a good idea to make a backup in TWRP right when you install it TWRP(that way you have the option to flash the stock recovery and take the OTA)You can't have a modified system when taking an OTA.
Make sure any backup you make is saved on something other than the phone storage. You could lose everything.

well, with the Sunshine method you are S-OFF which stands for Security Off - AKA Unlocked bootloader.
You can actually control you entire device now that you are sunshine S-OFF. Anything you want - which for new people to HTC and S-OFF can be a disaster. Please make sure to follow everything to a T for instructions as with S-OFF it removes the blocking of things that aren't suppose to be flashed on the phone. With S-ON you can't flash say, an HTC One X Hboot on an HTC One M8, however with S-OFF you can, so be VERY careful and make sure that whatever you flash is 110% for the device you have, and that you check the MD5-checksum.
SuperSU is root. S-OFF = permanent root.
so since you are sunshine S-OFF you can just install the SuperSU and now you have a stock rooted ROM.(I suggest making a nandroid before editing the stock ROM).
If you want to go ahead and mess around with flashing of ROMs, then you would need to flash a custom recovery (I also suggest TWRP)
command is fastboot flash recovery name-of-recovery.img

However, it has gotten laggy over the past couple weeks and a friend suggested to root and flash a rom on it. So, without any prior knowledge, I have been doing some research and browsing through the threads on this forum. I can see that there are guides but was very unsure if the methods would still work because I have noticed that most of them were last updated/edit a while ago. I know I shouldn't use the word 'latest' for doing this to a tablet that is fairly old in the market. However, it would be very helpful if someone can point me to some 'proven to work' or 'trust-worthy' guides of rooting, flashing recovery, and rom.
Also, just out of curiosity, please recommend which recovery and rom a first-timer should use if possible

these are the things you need to do before flashing a ROM.
note: -the following things may void your warranty.
-do this on your own risk.
1. HOW TO ROOT
-First install kingo root on your windows PC. Then check USB debugging .
( settings. < about device < touch build number 7times < go back and select developer options < check USB debugging.)
-Open kingo root on the PC and connect your device and connect your device to the PC. Start root and do not remove the USB cable until it says finish.
-Now you have successfully rooted your device.
2.HOW TO INSTALL A CUSTOM RECOVERY
- Go to the following link and download CLOCK WORK MOD(CWM)
LINK: https://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
Select your device and install the recovery.
go into the app and install recovery .
3.BACK UP
download rom manager from playstore and do a backup( do a backup using this ap only if you are using CWM recovery.

I was looking in the forum and someone said that I would also need to unlock the bootloader? If so, how do I do that?
Also, is there a difference between kingroot and towelroot? I saw a post in the forum here saying towelroot is fast and easy to root the tablet.
Not much difference.
Actually there is not much difference between kings root and towel root....towel root doesn't need a PC...but I have never used it so I can't assure you that it is safe.
And coming to the boot loader I don't know much about it but I didn't do anything like that before flashing a rom or rooting my tab2....

it is not necessary to unloack bootloader for tab 2 as it comes with a unlocked bootloader from stock.

Hey, it's been a while. Honestly speaking, when I first posted this thread, I didn't really have enough time to do the things so now I am finally back and trying to do it. So far, I know what recovery and rom I'm going to use with all the files downloaded and ready. Though, currently, I am still at the pre-root stage. I have read up things about kingoroot and not sure if I wanted to use it. So I looked around on the forum and wonder if Odin is still a working solution. Reading on the steps and guides, I was wondering if I need to have Kies installed?

Kies is not needed as it never helped.
You can depend on odin it is your only saviour when you are in trouble.
I think rooting with kingroot is easy as it is just connecting to your PC and cick the start button.
So just notice me when your ready.
And there is also one good news...?
Tab 2 has got marshmallow.

I have rooted the tablet. I did it with odin and twrp with flashing the updatedSuperSU zip folder.
I have tried flashing the CM12.1 rom yesterday but resulted in a boot loop. So for now, I'm just rooted and on stock rom until I or someone can find out what was the problem. I have read about the discussion with marshmallow but it seems to me that the project isn't really stable yet. From what I have researched lately, can I assume there's issue with the p51xx line of tablets? Because I saw many people having problems with p51xx and most people with the other tablets aren't having any.

You first must update your tab to jelly bean bootloader, before trying out newer roms.
Or perhaps flash stock jb firmware with odin
Whatever you choose, both is ok.

Next Read through the rom threads, clear your mind and your tab too. You must format data.
Stay on twrp 2.8.7.2. Don't go to the latest one yet.
Flash rom, wait, it will boot up.
Every tab behave differently with every rom, sure you are going to face soft reboots, on some roms it will be a lot, on some it will be less. I would suggest you try both LP and kk first.
Remember, it's better to keep this tab updated than to stay on stock. This tab 2 series has a emmc bug and staying on stock or jumping back is a risk too. I have been on kk and lp. They both have kept this tab running great and away from that bug.

Do I have to unroot first? Do you have a link to making a nandroid backup?
Edit: Oh, I looked at the link you included and it said that if I am on stock jb (4.2.2), I can skip the update bootloader part..
When you flashed the new rom, did you do a factory reset (wipe data)?

Yes, that's what I meant too, if you're on jb already, you are fine. You don't have to unroot. For making a nandroid backup, use twrp recovery, there is an option for backup, select and backup all from there, if you get into bootloop or any other problem, as long as you can get back to recovery, you can restore from there. Most rom comes pre rooted.

Yes, I cleared the top four options in recovery, and formatted data before flashing.

That's what I did. Let me just briefly summarize what I have done:
used odin with twrp
booted into recovery and made back up
cleared dalvik, cache, system, and data, formatted data
flashed update supersu, booted into system and checked root with root checker
rebooted into recovery, cleared dalvik, cache, system, and data, formatted data again
flashed cm12.1 and gapps, rebooted but ran into bootloop at splash screen
rebooted into recovery and restored back up
So I'm rooted and on stock 4.2.2 currently.

I did.
Try flashing blisspop or slimLP.
