Verizon from lte device to 3g help - General Questions and Answers

Well due to a series of be things with my Verizon note 2, I'm out of a phone.
I am due for an upgrade now but I am waiting for the galaxy s6. So in the mean time I need a phone. I have a s3 that is at home that my father is going to mail me (I'm 500 miles away at school). So while I wait for that, I have an old droid x that I've been using as a scan tool for my truck. It still works so can I use it?
Obviously I won't have 4g signal, but will it work and still let me go back to the s3 when it gets here? If so, how do I activate it again? Do index to go to a Verizon store and have them switch it over? This was my phone a few year ago. Same with the s3. Thanks for any help

NO SIM 100, my patience, 0

Upon returning home from a business trip, the dreaded NO SIM error started creeping up on my phone again. 2.5 weeks in Salt Lake City, no issue. Back in TN, horrid NO SIM errors abound. I called Verizon tech support today, and he noticed I already exchanged the phone for a new one, along with a new SIM. One thing he mentioned, it looked like I was "roaming" in the system, so he reset some routers (his words) after having me pull the battery and wait a couple of minutes before powering the S3 back up. Sure enough, on the drive home from work, the phone had a NO SIM issue... so I unplugged the battery for the rest of the drive home. Once inside, I plugged the battery back into the phone, everything looked hunky dory, so I went about my business... and sure as s***, the phone gave me another NO SIM. So I contacted Verizon again, and she offered me any Android phone as a replacement. Now, I don't know if you guys have looked at the current line up for Verizon's Android based smartphones, but it's basically the Moto Razr or the Samsung Galaxy S3. I have not found a case that I absolutely love, so I have invested in quite a few so far, plus additional charging cradles, car mounts, etc... frustrating because I love this phone, but I use it for work, so I can't deal with this issue much longer.
If you had to select another phone to replace it, what would you go with? The new RAZR M? (lose NFC, smaller and crappier screen, etc) The RAZR Maxx?
Thanks, in advance.
No other phone on Verizon can touch the S3. Only phone that can be comparable is something that is not out yet.
Then when it comes out, they will tell you it is to new.

Might hold out for the Note 2. Testing something currently... wondering if Go SMS is the issue, seeing as the problem seems to creep up with some sort of combination of texting and calls. Will update tomorrow.
Did you apply the latest update? It should have updated automatically OTA, unless you are running custom unlocked rooted whatever ROM. In that case go to dev section and download latest radio and flash it. Should fix that damn no SIM problem.

Yep, already flashed last week. Tech Support told me tonight they have been fielding calls post patch showing it didn't fix the issue. If they are offering me any android of my choice, they are probably as flustered as I am. Almost went to a Rezound, a step backwards, I know, but I am at wit's end. Will see how the next week goes.
Sorry to hear. Try and hold out for a fix. I came from a rezound, and while I loved my HTC phones, this s3 is great. Too different to compare.

A fix is being pushed out today to address this issue. S3 is bar far the best phone you will find out there...
do you have a source about that?
Verizon is super frustrating. I switched from Sprint and got the Gnex, along with the "mute issue" where all of a sudden your microphone stops working during a call and you have to hang up. I've had the phone replaced and the replacement still does it so they offered me an "early upgrade" if I buy the S3 for $200.00. I did some research and found out about the no sim issue on the S3 so when I called back to tell them I didn't want an S3 they offered a RAZR M at $99.00 :/
I'm really considering breaking my contract with them to get a phone I like that works as it's supposed to.
Ya. This issue is really bugging me. I honestly believe there is a hiccup between the phone and the tower when a text is sent. I noticed at home that when I have wifi connected, and then send a text, the S3 will connect to 4G to send the message. At that point, something triggers in the phone and it loses connectivity with the SIM.
Not that this helps much... I explained it to level 2 support and they kept telling me how it was a new to them issue.

You're not kidding. I don't know if they REALLY don't know about these issues or they are just lying.
Tier 2 was who was helping me with the replacement phone and when I mentioned the No Sim error they said they had never heard of it and the only problem he's ever seen with an S3 is when a user doesn't turn off their old phone when activating a new phone :/

Ya, it amazes me that their "level 2" support still tries this excuse. Every time they try this with me, I ask them to tell me what the latest S3 software update addresses, and then the phone gets quiet, followed by excuses and them never hearing about it... even tho Verizon put out a patch to fix the issue.
Keep documenting it, tis the only way it's going to get addressed, or at the very least you will have ammo to get a new phone.

Have you tried the new HD modem for S3 yet?
Following guidance from the 2nd level tech after calling tech support, I stopped by the local verizon store today to pick up a new SIM. This is my third SIM, but she assured me there was a bad batch floating around the stores. We'll see... fingers crossed.

A friend of mine had the same issue, we both have the GS3 and live in the same area. She gets constant sim errors while I've never got one and I switch between 3G/4G frequently. She recieved a new sim a few weeks ago and hasn't had an error since. Seems a lot of sims are incorrectly configured with Verizon's network, just an educated guess.

Samsung s4 Google Edition on ATT

Don't see a forum for Samsung s4 google edition so I am posting here.
Anyone else having an issue when trying to activate this phone on ATT? They act like they never heard of it, give all these lame "well we cannot gaurantee it will work since it's unlocked" and then telling me their system will not allow them to put a LTE plan on it..
wtf?

Noticed a couple threads similar over the various s4 sections.
I'm in Canada but know that my device is not required by my provider it enable data. I change devices about every 8 months and can just swap out the SIM and I'm good to go.
If AT&T has issues with the Google edition s4 couldn't you just say that it's a normal s4 bought of eBay or Craig's list to have an lte data plan enabled?

No because in the IMEI comes up as unlocked device in their system and they pretty much are trying to get you off the phone at that point. Tried 3 diffrent reps and asked to be connected to next tier tech support.
Another update.. I gave them an IMEI from a note 2 i have.. LTE plan went on fine.. but the phone doesn't get anything more than hspa+.. 4mb down. THis is BS.. if they cannot connect the phone or I have to jump through hoops like I had to with the NExus 4 (which i had to call in like every month to have something reset) I am going to just send it back Not worth the headache.

Doubt it.. got escalated up to manager,.. basically you will not get lte on these devices. Only on att branded phones. That is the message I am being told directly. This is total BS I f'n hate ATT. Whoever is buying this for ATT beware.. your going to have a bad time. I am sending this right back as it's just as crippled as the nexus 4 with this carrier.
I bought a I9505 and had same issue (no LTE).
I have 3 lines with AT&T and I could watch the AT&T website update as I used different SIMs in the I S4, the Vivid and a Nexus 7 (3G).
I was lucky that I bought the i S4 from Amazon so no problem with refund.
I suspect if you had a never used SIM and a S4 IMEI you could get LTE.
One line was ready for an upgrade.
I got the AT&T S4 and used an 'old' SIM and connected to LTE with no problem.
As soon as I bought the AT&T S4 an email was sent and it provided a process for on line registration of the S4.
I've never seen that before and didn't do it.
I got my GE on AT&T today. My notification bar says LTE. I ran some speed tests and got about 10 mbps down but I am at work in a poor reception area. When I get home I'll try it but I better get at least 40 mpbs down or this is being returned

I ended up giving them an imei from a note 2 and they said they were able to put an LTE plan on.. yet the signal bar shows H.

I am going to just return this I think if I try elsewhere later and stil get slow speeds. Just was shocked multiple people saying they do not support it. I even contacted google and let them know. Doubt they care.
Just get a imei number from a att phone and give it to them, it'll work. I had to do this with my galaxy nexus to get full hspa+

What should we be getting for DL/UL speeds?
Why would you call to activate it? Just pop in your Sim card and your good to go. I never had an issue doing this and I get lots of different phones unlocked and from different countries some times.
But I agree why is there no forums for this phone? Does motochopper root method work on this phone and I assume we can use T-Mobile version recoveries and Roms fine on this phone? Does anybody know? Sorry to get off topic.

If you already have a LTE SIM on ATT from another phone just pop it into the GE and it will work just fine. If you do not you will have to go through the process the OP is taking about as the IMEI is not loaded as a LTE device and they will need to put one in for you to activate the LTE.
Saves a lot of time and headaches to already have an LTE SIM for ATT.

Just FYI if you do this and have tethering/hotspot in your plan then you will need to call AT&T so they can add the new IMEI. THey will also delete the old one on file, so if you're into swapping SIMs (I like to go between the iPhone 5 and S4, although in the past few weeks it's been all S4), then you won't be able to turn on hotspot/tethering without arranging a workaround or calling AT&T every time.

check to see if you have the right APNs.
I saw over in the HTC ONE forum that the GE came with a weird APN.

Take it to ATT store. They are pretty good compared to technical support over the phone.

I guess is more accurate to say was previously on ATT LTE with a phone. Every should know if they have been on ATT LTE already. If not you have to spend some time on the phone with ATT.
just do it and swap the sim card in. i have never had a problem with service or data when getting a new device and putting the AT&T sim in it. went from S3 to S4 that way, also S3 to Sony Xperia Z, Xperia Z to S4, S4 to S3, etc.

[Q] AT&T on Nexus 5 (D280 AM Version)

Hello, I am new to XDA! i am not "Technologically Advanced" but i do know my way with Android. I currently have a Google Nexus 5, but before i ask you my question let me give you a back story, that will give you all of the info you need to answer my question I have had my line at AT&T since august 17th, i bought an Galaxy S4 (RED) and after updating it, it lost bootloader unlock (you had to use safestrap, not a huge fan as i like stock android) so i pre-ordered the AT&T Galaxy Note 3 (HUGE Mistake that was, should have bought T-mobile variant as they had LiquidSmooth 4.4.2 as of now) So i hated Samsungs "TouchWiz" i only got the note 3 for the battery and bige screen, now i just swapped my sim out of my s4 into the note 3 when i got it, so when i got my Nexus 5 (Black 32Gb) i just put the sim right out of my Note 3 into it, Data worked right out of box, BUT i cant get LTE to work, and when in town (as the only places with LTE in my street and the highschool about 15 minutes away) so we only have EDGE and HSPA+ (3G) but when i compare mu service to my moms note 3 or my sisters iPhone 5s, they all get HSPA+ all through town, while my phone goes in and out of "H+" and "E" (Mostly E) now im checking the band support, all of the bands on AT&T are on the Nexus 5, (Besides bands 29,30 which wont take in until the end of 2014) what can i do? i dialed 611 and they entered my IMEI in and tried updating, but they said the bands of service required in my area dont match my phone because its an unlocked phone (now i know that is just bs, and they just said that to try and get a phone directly from att) i tried entering in a new APN and everything, but this constant searching for a better connection is KILLING my battery (we are talking 4 hours on screen time and 11 hours total, before you ask, i am running a custom rom, it is cataclysm rom, but the problems were there before too, in advance thank you for all of your help:laugh:
Seeing how you know your way around android and know about unlocking/ rooting your phone, flash the latest radio found here: http://goo.im/devs/bigxie/hammerhead/LGD820_KOT49E_RADIO.zip
ATT is full of freaking crap about your phone being unlocked and you should by one directly through them..... Sneaky sneaky to people who have no idea about smartphones.
edit: four hours of on screen time is a lot.
Okay, I flashed it, haven't seen a change, but I haven't left my house. I should be going to town today, and I will see if this fixes my issue. Thank you!

Had a similar issue with no LTE once I got my N5. Go on your my AT&T account online. You will see that it all shows your old phone. Try updating all that so or reflects the new changes. Wait for a few minutes after you made g the changes and restart your phone.
That should make it somewhat better. At least, that is what for me LTE.

[Q] Verizon sch 1535 network problem

I bought a verizon 4g lte galaxy s3 16gb I wanted to put it on at&t's network with the straight talk bring your own phone thing. So I got it put the SIM card in activated it then I got Samsung kies and updated my android to 4.3 then I rooted it successfully. But I am only getting edge data speeds and its really slow. I have looked through these forums and googled so much but I really can't find anything. The straight talk box said I could get lte speeds and I really want to know is there a way to get them or at least 3g speeds or just anything faster than edge I think dial up is faster. I will happily donate a good sum if someone can help me with this problem

I think your best bet is sell the Verizon S3 and get an ATT S3 instead. (you could sell on Ebay and get an ATT S3 for about the same price). Unfortunately, it can't be done as Verizon uses CDMA and ATT uses GSM. Means radios are completely different. The most you can get is Edge data speed.
k
It gives me the option in mobile networks to switch to gsm. You absolutely sure there is nothing I can do to increase my data speed. I do have it rooted with supersu titanium backup lucky patched build prop editor and apn back and restore

AT&T is straight talk so shouldn't be any issue. I found a thread here you can read up on how to set APN for straight talk http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781935
BTW: Straight talk also offer a "straight talk S3" which using LTE without any modification.

will a T-Mobile Galaxy S8 work on Sprint?

So you know how T-mobile S8 are so much cheaper than other carriers? i was thinking of picking one up, but will it work on sprint? Aren't the internals the same? Shouldn't flashing the sprint ROM do the trick?

I have a TMO Galaxy S8 and switched it over to Sprint no problem. Everything seems to work and has been working for about three months so far.
But, the other day suddenly it would not recognize the sim card. I did all the normal troubleshooting and finally had to resolve it with a master reset then all was good. I still get the same problem once in a while. When I open up either the phone app or contacts, the screen within is totally blank. No phone keys, no contacts. A pwer reset bring them all back. I am using the Samsung Dark theme. I don't know if this is all related to the sim issue, or a problem with the S8, but, once again I had no problem with my TMO S8 on Sprint for at least 3 months.
