[Q] Verizon sch 1535 network problem - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I bought a verizon 4g lte galaxy s3 16gb I wanted to put it on at&t's network with the straight talk bring your own phone thing. So I got it put the SIM card in activated it then I got Samsung kies and updated my android to 4.3 then I rooted it successfully. But I am only getting edge data speeds and its really slow. I have looked through these forums and googled so much but I really can't find anything. The straight talk box said I could get lte speeds and I really want to know is there a way to get them or at least 3g speeds or just anything faster than edge I think dial up is faster. I will happily donate a good sum if someone can help me with this problem

I think your best bet is sell the Verizon S3 and get an ATT S3 instead. (you could sell on Ebay and get an ATT S3 for about the same price). Unfortunately, it can't be done as Verizon uses CDMA and ATT uses GSM. Means radios are completely different. The most you can get is Edge data speed.

k
It gives me the option in mobile networks to switch to gsm. You absolutely sure there is nothing I can do to increase my data speed. I do have it rooted with supersu titanium backup lucky patched build prop editor and apn back and restore

Unless someone could hack the radio, up to now..none. So yes, the most you could get is edge.

AT&T is straight talk so shouldn't be any issue. I found a thread here you can read up on how to set APN for straight talk http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781935
BTW: Straight talk also offer a "straight talk S3" which using LTE without any modification.

[Q] S3 HELP!!!

Ok all I'm a newbie here so don't hate on me please.
My problem is that I cannot receive MMS and have no data other than WIFI??
I just rooted a Galaxy S3 (Verizon) SCH-I535, 4.1.2, Build#JZ054K.I535VRBMA2.
I set up the phone GSM/UMTS and am using an AT&T sim card from my old phone (HTC Inspire), the sim card that was in my inspire was on of the large kind that did not fit the Galaxy so the guy at Best Buy had a little stapler looking thing that actually cut it to the right size?? I don't know if that has anything to do with my problem or not? I don't think so since I CAN use the phone for calls and text messages, but you guys are the pro's. UPDATE: I did go to AT&T and get the proper sim card.
I used ODIN 307 and a file named-root66_VZW_I535VRBMA2_nowipe.tar.md5, to root the phone. I installed APN Manager Pro and Titanium Backup, both paid apps. I made APN Manager a system app in Titanium Backup just like I have read in other forums.
I have tried to use my old HTC settings for the APN and various others I have found online, including NET10 but nothing seems to work! I still can't receive MMS or network data??
If anyone can help me to figure this out I would greatly appreciate your help!
Thanks in advance!!
That's not gonna work...

You're attempting to use an AT&T sim card in a Verizon device. Setting the device to use GSM/UMTS instead of CDMA/LTE while using an AT&T sim card that has been modified to fit a Verizon slot still wont work... it's still a Verizon device. AT&T and Verizon may both use the same frequency bands of 850 MHz and 1900 MHz for 3G, and 700 MHz for LTE, but their commonality ends there. To my knowledge you can't get what you're trying to do here to work. Even if you could get it to work, it would likely not be an easy task.
If you want your Verizon SCH-I535 to work, you'll need to use a Verizon sim card with an active Verizon Wireless plan.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news man... but its not gonna work.

Actually I did get it to work....somewhat. I downloaded the app HiAPN Global for the play store, made it a system app and viola! I now have data and MMS, HOWEVER it is not good by any means. All of my MMS come across as group messages and the data is EDGE at best.
I am wondering if I need to flash a new ROM and recovery....bootloader?? I'm kinda lost with all the information out there but cant seem to find my exact situation.

You will only get EDGE. i used to use at&t Sim in Verizon S3.
The way I got data to worm was flash CM10 stable FROM AT&T Version (i747) to the Verizon version (i535)
That doesn't mean ALL roms will work like that. You don't have to believe me that it worked as some people will say "You can't flash a att ROM on a Verizon phone".
Some Roms have MULTICARIER support. Try one of those. But again, you will not get any speeds faster than EDGE. Verizon has those bands locked for US carriers, but there unlocked for over seas. (Weird huh)
Edit: IM NOT TELLING YOU TO GO FLASH A AT&T SLECIFIC ROM. ALL IM SAYING IS I USED A AT&T VERSION OF CYANOGENMOD TO GET MY DATA WORKING.

[Q] Getting LTE on AT&T w/ Nexus 5

Hello,
I'm coming from a Nexus 4, and have never had an LTE phone on my AT&T account before. I've read that since AT&T doesn't have Nexus 5 in their system, that it will be a hassle for them to activate LTE through the phone. I can't really find any concrete answers or info, so I figured I'd stop by here and see if anyone has any ideas?
Does AT&T have to activate LTE on their end for it to work? Or can I just adjust my APN once I get the phone?
Has anyone had any issues with this at all? How did you get around it?
Thanks in advance!
I would like to know too... Im thinking about switching over my corporate account from VZW to ATT and I ordered a Nexus 5 to try out ATT coverage in my area first. I was going to head into the ATT store tomorrow, now Im worried I won't be able to get it setup (Im not familiar with how ATT works). Do I need to get a IMEI from a phone in the store and give to them? I don't get my N5 until tomorrow night and I was planning on going the store tomorrow morning and getting either Gophone or shared plan SIM setup so I can pop it in when the phone arrives. Will they need an IMEI to even get me an account activated?
If they need an IMEI at activation, would it matter if I didn't have the device in front of me, like if I tell them I ordered a S4 and gave them a IMEI from one? Do I need to find someone on ATT to give me their IMEI and tell them at the store I have it ordered? Sorry if these request are way off based on how it actually works, but I want to be able to test out my N5 tomorrow night! Thanks for any help you can give me..
EDIT: In the ATT world, would It be considered shady for me to tell them all this info? For instance if I told the salesmen this problem and asked if they could use an IMEI off one of their phones?

I'm assuming that this will work similar to how it worked for the N4 and enabling HSPA+ on AT&T.
You will need an LTE plan added to your account. It won't cost more, but the account needs to enable the LTE service. In order to do this, I believe AT&T will need an IMEI. Since the IMEI will not be recognized, then you need to get another AT&T LTE device's IMEI code. Maybe a friend? I know some people would copy it off a demo device in the store.
Good luck.
FWIW: I put my LTE sim in the phone and everything was autoenabled correctly. This was better than with the N4 where it autoenabled wrong, and I had to change the settings.
I'll clarify this, AT&T has different data plans. They have all their data plans for 3g phone (3g data unlimited), and all their 4g data plans. You can not get 4g unless your data plan has been switched to the 4g version. You can keep your unlimited plans with this. Just call and ask them to switch your data plan to the lte version.
Sorry double post

So, to clarify, did you just activate LTE with an N5 coming from an N4 and it went smoothly?

i'm in the same boat, i'll know for sure when i get the n5 tomorrow but from what i've seen AT&T does have to provision your SIM for LTE. My plan is to goto an AT&T store and ask them if they can get my sim sorted; if they screw around or say they "can't" help me then i'll either grab an imei from one of the demo phones or from a buddy and call them and give them that.

This looks to be the thing to do. I just had someone inform me that they brought the phone into AT&T, and the guy punched in the numbers off the sticker on the back, gave him a sim and he was good to go. I'll make sure to come back here and report my own findings first hand since this question seems to be floating around a bit.

Do identical IMEI numbers conflict if its already on the network? Can I use the same identical IMEI from a friends ATT phone or do I need to change some numbers?

I've read imei's are never checked
I already had an LTE Sim. I just used the LTE Sim in my n4.
check out the thread I made for a very simple solution! It'll get LTE working on the N5 through AT&T guaranteed

College Station, November 4, 2013 Verified - LTE addon
I can verify coming from a "Nexus S" BYOD.
I went to an AT&T Store in College Station, TX to get a new microSIM because the Nexus 5 only takes microSIM form factor.
I then got an LTE signal, but no IP address.
Chatted online and they told me to wait 1 hour then reboot the phone. Did so.. same response, gets on the LTE network fast, but nevers gets an IP address.
So I then called 611 on the Nexus 5 and talked to Tech Support, told them:
1. I have never had an LTE phone before and thought I needed LTE service added to my Account Profile.
2. I wanted "No changed to my legacy Unlimited plan"
They told me
1. My "legacy Unlimited plan had just been removed by 'mistake' and would have to be restored by the (backoffice)"
2. They were updating my account to enable LTE service
I then had to reboot the phone, did so and the Internet service came right up.
Now I have to wait up to 72 hours for AT&T backoffice to confirm they have restored my Unlimited plan.
I put a pass-code on my Account, and strenuously stress every time.. DO NOT TOUCH MY UNLIMITED PLAN !!!! -- And they do it any way.
.. exasperated ...
They also do not know what a "Nexus 5" phone is yet.. so I think only the call in Tech Support can interpolate what to do. I think the kee was to keep calling it an "LTE enabled Nexus 4" and then things just "worked".

This thread's a great resource. Thanks!

can i somehow use a custom rom to gain hspda+ on h2o 4.2.1 i535

well im going thru alot of postings im certain my answer is no but just in case i may have missed somthing its been awhile since i had a s3
got my hands on this s3 4.2.1 did casual and just using it on h2o with a mini sim got e
but thats boring
will upgrading it to 4.3 enable anything
like on my verizon s4 upgrading to 4.3 enabled lte for my old tmobile sim but yeah i know thats diff bands altogether
but i went to h2o so as to be able to use my iphone too without unlocking it
so im just screwing around poping my simcar din and out of all these devices
im happy with hspda on the s4 and 4g on iphone
but using this s3 is almost archaic to me now with edge 2
im wondering if either changing recovery loading a rom and or kernel radio combo woul dyeild anything interesting or just waste my time
for refrence
h2o is att mvno
ill keep looking in the meantime
i also had a really odd issue with another s4 verizon where h2o failed to even register on 4.2 i never did figure out what was wrong i even went as far as upgrading it to 4.3 it acted like it was blocked out in the end the only way to get it to even register service was to root enter service menu and set the band myself global mode seemed to aquire signal then bump off network or get network but couldnt place a call i never did figure out what was wrong with that dumb handset
i wonder if forcing this handset onto a certain band would do anything or acquisition order or am i missing the band alltogether
ill keep poking around
this is also my first galaxy handset with screenburn how wonderfull looks like ghosted dialer screen ..

hello i just want to start off by saying i have searched everywhere for an answer on this. so i recently got a s4(free upgrade)and i want to let a friend use my s3. they have straight talk so im trying to figure out how to make it work. i tried to call verizon to get an unlock code but they said there was no such code they could give me and referred me to samsung. so all im wondering is how i can get this phone working on straight talks cdma towers. i know the 4g doesnt work but im not worried about it. if i have to root it i also dont mind just please point me in the right direction. i know its possible. it would be cool to be able to put a straight talk rom or something that will make it like the s3 that ST sells. thanks

Unsure about straight talk roms myself but as far as getting the phone to work on straight talk it's not all that complicated. I know you have to go to there website or contact them to get one of there sim cards. I'm looking into moving to straight talk myself soon, I'm tired of the high bills. As far as roms don't quote me on this but I think as long as it's bootloader unlocked you can use almost any rom that's d2lte which is basically a universal rom for all the d2=S3 us versions
And from what I've found on there website they do have 4GLte as they use verizon towers

Well the only sim card i would be able to get would be a $g sim card as CDMA phones don't use reg sim cars and i'm almost positive ST does not offer 4G through their verizon towers. I really just want to find out how to unlock it and activate it. I went on the ST website and they said to enter in the IMEI and then send an activation kit but it says not available in my area code. So im stuck atm.

Straight talk SCH-S986C

So I snagged a straight talk galaxy S3. I've already got it rooted running official cm12 for the Verizon varient. Is it at all possible to get this thing to pick a verizon/page plus sim? From looking around I've come to the conclusion that the Verizon S3 is the most similar. What would be the options?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Anyone?

There is a sim slot. I actually have Verizon contract. After flashing everything an changing a few settings I have talk, text and data but its steady roaming..I wonder if I'll get charged for roaming? Anyways I'm sure if everything is working there's gotta be a way to stop it from roaming.

Maybe a modem? Been scared to try it because I'm confused as to what will cause my boot loader to lock.
Don't know why it worked but *228 just fixed my roaming problem. I thought you couldn't *228 a LTE phone? I know the straight talk S3 has 4G disabled but I'm still running a 4G LTE sim card. This is really strange lol. Never in a million years would I have thought I could get a prepaid phone running on Verizon contract. Maybe pageplus will work as good so I can get away from these high bills and get unlimited internet.

Wondering what it takes to make this phone a full Verizon phone. It runs off the Verizon towers, its running a Verizon ROM and recognizing it as a i535. What else would need to be changed? And exactly where do they disable 4G? In the modem or physical hardware of the phone? Maybe someone will help! I do not want to use this s4 anymore. Locked bootloaders kill me lol.

Well I'm making the switch to straight talk today. Hopefully cdma workshop can get 4G working. I've searched and searched and I can't find any explanation as to why or where the 4G is deactivated. by the process of elimination, I've come come to the conclusion that it has to be in the physical hardware. I'm going to try one more thing before I start tinkering with cdma workshop. I'm going to try to flash a d2lte rom to see if that does it. anyone know of a lollipop d2lte rom?

I didn't find any with a search but If I come across one I'll post it here, the two d2vzw lollipop roms I seen are both lollipop but not & d2lte roms.
I think the issue with the straight talk S3 is indeed the hardware, they managed to remove the 4G option on this variant and the VZW prepaid version also

I'm wondering if the process they used is the same process page plus retailers used on 4G devices..because my girlfriend had a Verizon s3 that they had to flash to 3G so it can be used on pageplus..when she switched to a note 2 a few weeks ago they told her they offered Verizon's 4G coverage now and she would get it on her note no flashing required. Worked right outta the box. We took her old s3 and hooked it up for my mom. They said that it had to be flashed back to 4G so I'm wondering if straight talk flashed this phone to 3G only with flashing software..if so, is there a free program anywhere to do this? The CDMA workshop trial has never given me the outcome I was looking for.

About 2 weeks ago I was using this straight talk s3 on Verizon postpaid, not prepaid. I just flashed a Verizon ROM and setup the apns and threw my Verizon sim card in and it worked. It stayed in a roaming state but it worked fine. Calls, texts and data. I think I did dial *228 to get it to lock onto the network. I still have the line if you would like to see some proof

If you are saying that you were on Verizon because you had the Verizon wireless showing in your status bar or because it said it in your phone somewhere then no you weren't on Verizon, your phone showed that stuff because it has that stuff in your build.prop, that doesn't mean you were on Verizon, the only way to actually be on Verizon is if you actually setup an account with them and activated the phone on their network. Supposedly Verizon won't let you activate a straight talk phone on Verizon account, this device is not able to carrier unlock and that's what you have to do to actually switch carriers and use your IMEI on another network. It shows SCH-I535 because of the build.prop, all of that Verizon stuff and the i535 stuff can be edited in the build.prop, that has nothing to do with who you actually have service with, that's just there because its written in the ROM.
