I got this new tablet, it´s the HD version of the Acer Iconia Tab 8 A1-840. I did some research but I didn't find anything about it, except for this guide of how to root it http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/guide-root-acer-iconia-tab-8-a1-840fhd-t2933317
The tablet is an alternative to the Dell Venue 8 or the Asus Memo Pad 7 ME176C, and it has a great price. Also, it's shape is equal to the A1-840FHD.

Stock firmware and drivers: http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers
I noticed that the files inside the update.zip of the firmware are not compressed into .img files, like in a ROM, so I might soon create the first custom ROM which could be flasheable in stock recovery .
kitkat 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 ?
Are you sure your android version is 4.4.4 ? What time you get an update ?
Yes it's 4.4.4 and Acer has not given any date, but they said Lollipop will be released for some devices.

This was at Costco for $150.00 but with RAM 2 GB and a WUXGA 1920x1200 screen. They give the battery a Wh rating: 17. It seems to be a credible replacement for a dead Nexus 7 I have. With the better screen and the micro SD card slot. I wanted to write reviews last week but couldn't find anywhere to do it because this version is not out there yet.

I also saw this at Costco but a bar code scan did not 0887899841224 return any information about it.
My question is about the 32 GB micro SD card slot.
Is that strictly hardware limitations or can it be increased with a custom rom flash?
It would NOT read my 64 gb micro SD card when I took it from my phone and tried it on the display unit.
My beloved Asus tf101 Transformer is finally dying after so many years.

I'm sorry I can't really help you with that. I took them at their word and picked up a 32GB card. It would be great to be able to step up to 64GB though. Also I am not able to move data from a jump drive straight to the tablet. It needs to be unlocked for that to occur.
All in all for the price, its a nice deal.

Thank you for responding so quickly. Is there an actual product number from the literature that it came with?
The reviews that I looked at are over a year old and I do not believe it's the same item as they said the screen was only ok. I looked at the screen and wow that's vivid and nice.
Is the bootloader locked?
You think we will be able to root it? Custom rom it?
My Asus tf101 transformer tablet was built in 30 March 2011.
It currently has an outstanding development person that has a KITKAT 4.4.4 that's outstanding fast.
Faster than what it shipped with, AND he's working on the 2nd or 3rd version of lollipop.
On the fence here, thinking Asus or this tablet.

There aren't any reviews of this model out there only for the 1 GB RAM and a lesser screen. Here are a couple of pictures from the box. The safety instructions and such are pretty generic. (Sorry they are upside down.I am left handed and when I grab my phone camera I always take pictures upside down.)

I use SwiftKey but it sometimes has problems with Web entries like this.* I would rather use Tapatalk 2, but IMO the company that produced the Tapatalk 2 application in order to force an upgrade to their horrible ad filled product have disconnected the search for servers. I use Titanium Backup already connected with a backup set that hooked up to XDA.
I noticed the root thread at the beginning of the very first post.
but that looks like it involves hooking it up to my pc, so that will have to be tomorrow, or the weekend.

It may have been the demo model that had it sd card reader disabled.
I got root. Had to use a different laptop.
I am impressed with the standby abilities of the tablet.
My first thought was let titanium backup this baby and freeze non essential item that are running.
A moment latter thinking, well actually it's doing a great job of not loading the acer software or the other preloaded applications.
Anyone working on lollipop rom?

Hello guys!
I wonder if you can help me out. I live in Brazil and I want a tablet. Nexus 7 was my main choice but it doesn't supports HDMI (nor MHL) and I'll use it a lot to watch movies on my TV and stuff like that. So I came across XOOM. Seems a pretty solid tablet but I was looking around the forum and I have the following question:
Should I get Motorola XOOM Wifi (I believe it's model is Mz604) or a Morotola XOOM 2 (the one with 8.2" screen)? It seems that support for original XOOM is better or am I wrong? please help me with this one.
Thanks a lot!
I think you can go for xoom 2.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Yeah but what about JB support? I dont really want to be stuck on HoneyComb... The specs are almost the same, so I'm on a impass
anyone else???
imo go for xoom (mz604) much more support and jb available and bigger screen better if out and about etc

just got XOOM (first model, wifi only).. should arrive by tuesday
good choice!

No one should ever buy a Xoom 2.
Well, I guess it depends on what you want from your tablet.
The XOOM2 is a fine tablet if you do not have any plans on leaving ICS/Honeycomb. I don't think any XOOM2 is going to see Jellybean any time soon. However, if size is more important than performance to you, the XOOM2 might be worth it for you.
However, if size doesn't matter to you, the original XOOM WiFI (MZ604) is an excellent tablet. Even if you don't modify the tablet, the tablet is solid, fast (because there is almost NO BLOATWARE), and it has even gotten the latest Android 4.1 Jellybean (if you GEDify it if it is not a U.S XOOM). All around, I feel that the original XOOM WiFi is a great tablet, However, the price of the tablet even today can be a bit steep.
While the final decision is yours, between the XOOM and XOOM2, I would get a XOOM.

I understand. I got the XOOM because I like the 10" screen and I DO want to customize it (new kernel, new rom, etc) as I do with my Nexus S device. How can I get more infos on this GEDify process? Is it hard to do?
Thanks!
hmmm i found this http://www.simonjstuart.com/2011/07/23/gedify-your-non-us-wifi-xoom-for-n00bs/
it seems that GEDify is to install a US ROM on the tablet.. is that it?
Honestly, I traded my nexus 7 8gb for a Xoom 32gb MZ604, the quad core tegra 3 was nice and all but I use the rear camera, 32gb of memory, and expandable storage more then I do the tegra 3's performance.

Yeah.. The Nexus 7 was my first choice but the lack of HDMI kept me away from it I'm glad XOOM is almost like a Nexus device because after I got my Nexus S, I can say that I will never get an android device that isnt a GED hehe
The Nexus 7 is, by all means, a great device. But the lack of expandable storage for a device that is primarily used for media consumption is hard to get over. On my xoom, I am using about 5GB of space simply for "additional content" for games like Dead Space, GTA3, Max Payne and a few others. And thats also not taking into account the need to store video files; sure using streaming sources is convenient but what about when you have no wifi (public transit is a good example).
Lack of hdmi out is a bit annoying too, though an adapter can fix that. I'm really hoping they start a 10" Nexus series so I can have something to look forward to down the road as an upgrade to my Xoom. A 32GB internal storage option would also be nice.

I dont think there is any adapter to get HDMI to work on Nexus 7
My Xoom arrived today will get it after work.. Should I GEDify it ASAP or try the luck and see if JB is available for me without GEDifying?
If its not a wifi Xoom in the US, then its not a GED and its not going to have Jellybean yet (or any time soon, by my guess).

got the XOOM (MZ604). updated to 4.0.4 and stopped there, then I have flashed an US 3.0 firmware and now im on stock JB
By the way, the nexus 7 at stock gets around 3500 on quadrant bench, my MZ604 xoom wifi only with TeamEOS 137 build gets 3000 stock, and around 4100 overclocked to 1.5ghz

Hello,
Preamble: I curently own a TF300TG on JRO03C.WW_epad_10.4.3.9-20121106 stock, locked and not rooted
I've recently bought a Samsung 32Gb Class 10 MicroSDHC UHS-1 and the tablet failed to recognize it, while my i9000 and the PC had no trouble accessing it.
I've tried formatting it again to FAT, exFAT and NTFS without any luck.
Next I sent an e-mail to Asus support, who replied that my and any other card above class 6 is not supported, which seems to be backed up by statements of some people having similar trouble with smaller sized cards of class 10.
This post servers both as a warning to those interested in buying a card for their tablet, and as an interrogative mark for everyone: do you have a working class10 microsd in your TF300T(G)? If so, what make is it, and what firmware are you on? Do you think this is a hardware or a perhaps a stock firmware limitation?
Thanks,
Cheers

I have a microSandisk 32 Gb class 10
It worked on ICS rom from Asus.
Asus JB rom I do not know.
Have changed rom many times.
It works with Surdu_Petrus roms and kernels
Can not get it to work with Clemsyn kernels

Hi guys,
Given your answers, and to the fact that my old i9000 recognizes it without problems, I tend to incline it'd be a stock firmware limitation, rather than a hardware one... Also I got another reply yesterday from Asus, which among others, reads: "This is a hardware limitation, not a software one. Although with a firmware update you might be able to use your card"
I'm thinking of buying a class 6, and keep this one for my Hero2.
Cheers

Yea if it works haha. I'm curious, if it doesn't I'm wondering if it would be the ROM and if the one you built would help. I knows the card slot works as I've had a 16 class 10 work in it.

I'm wondering if it's not a UHS related firmware limitation...

The title does not say anything about the dock / extension kb, and we're talking about Micro SD(HC) not about SD cards, but just to make it as clear as possible yes, we're referring build in MicroSD slot.

An Android tablet with Intel's HD 4000?!!!
This could mean some SERIOUS gaming performance, on par with PC class discrete graphics cards.
The one thing I'm worried about is app compatibility.
Can anybody verify? Does anyone have benchmarks?
If not, I'm returning my N7v2 very soon and will find out for myself!
No this can't be right. Why would a nVidia Tegra 4 use Intel graphics. It's like an oxymoron.

I realize it's completely backwards.
I just spoke with an HP salesperson on their website. They confirmed that it does indeed come with the HD 4000. I also asked them about app compatibility, and they said there will be no issues whatsoever (but I'll have to see for myself.)

And the fact that NO ONE is talking about this is just weird! THIS IS THE BIGGEST NEWS FOR ANDROID!

The spec sheet that you can download on the HP site does not have Intel graphics listed but in the main spec list on the store front clearly has Intel listed for graphics. I wish HP would clarify this...even if it turns out to use the Nvidia GPU its still a beast of a tablet. I'm waiting on reviews and/or availability in retail stores to teat it out. Very interested though

Thank you! Finally someone else who understands how REVOLUTIONARY this is!
For the CPU, spec sheet says: Nvidia T40S, 4-Plus-1™ Quad
Could the "Plus 1" mean the Intel HD 4000?
Edit: No, I just found out it doesn't.
"The so-called 4-plus-1 processor cores are in fact five ARM Cortex-A15 CPU cores where the fifth core is used largely for power-saving purposes."
Hd 4000 confirmed
I just spoke with an HP Customer Representative:
11:27:11 AM : Me: Initial Question/Comment: HP Slatebook x2 with HD 4000?
11:27:11 AM : Welcome! Our HP Home & Home Office Sales Chat Team serves the US only.
11:27:16 AM : We do not provide product support. We will refer you to HP Technical Support, the HP Parts Store or to non-US sales help.
11:27:16 AM : If you still need US sales or ordering assistance, please stay in queue. Our Sales Chat Representative will be with you shortly.
11:27:31 AM : Michka D. has joined this session!
11:27:31 AM : Connected with Michka D.. Your Reference Number for this chat is 2057637.
11:27:51 AM : Michka D.: Thank you for contacting HP Home & Home Office Sales Chat and welcome to our Back-to-school Sale. My name is Michka.
11:28:01 AM : Michka D.: Can you please rephrase your question and provide greater detail so that I can better assist you?
11:28:24 AM : Me: Yes. On your website, the HP Slatebook x2 is listed in the Specs as having an Intel HD 4000 for a GPU.
11:28:32 AM : Me: But on your HP Data Sheet, it doesn't list the HD 4000 anywhere.
11:28:38 AM : Me: Does it come with the HD 4000 or not?
11:29:26 AM : Michka D.: I'm sorry for the confusion, Me.
11:29:31 AM : Michka D.: Let me check it for you.
11:29:41 AM : Michka D.: I need to check my resources first in order to answer your question. May I place you on hold for 1-2 minutes while I check my resources?
11:29:45 AM : Me: Yes.
11:30:01 AM : Michka D.: Thank you.
11:33:21 AM : Michka D.: I appreciate your patience, I want to ensure I’m getting you exactly what you need. It will just be another minute or two. Thank you for your understanding.
11:33:29 AM : Me: No problem.
11:37:56 AM : Michka D.: Thank you for your patience.
11:38:36 AM : Michka D.: Me, rest assure that the HP Slatebook x2 has an Intel HD Graphics 4000 in it.
11:38:47 AM : Me: Alright. Thank you very much!
11:39:46 AM : Michka D.: Thank you for informing us regarding this, I'll take note of it for them to revise the date sheet.
11:39:55 AM : Me: Thank you once again!
11:40:31 AM : Michka D.: You are welcome.
11:40:41 AM : Michka D.: Are you in the market today in purchasing the HP Slatebook x2?
11:40:48 AM : Me: Not today, but soon. Thank you!
So yes, because of Me (rofl) they will be revising their Data Sheet soon on their website!
THIS IS THE FREAKING NEWS OF THE CENTURY FOR ANDROID GAMERS!!!!
Ok so no Intel graphics that's fine. I always thought it was a little odd...anyways now we need to know when and where this will retail in physical stores!
All I know is that someone that speaks English needs to do a comprehensive review of this tablet on YouTube. For a device that has been trickling out world wide there HAS to be someone reviewing it and/or bench-marking it. SOMEONE PLEASE!
As far as i can see it has nvidia graphics (which would be logical), you can see that at the comparism page of HP

HP has fixed their spec page now. It does NOT come with Intel graphics..which is fine...what is more concerning is that the rest of the world gets 32 GB and 64GB internal storage variants and the US so far only has a 16GB listed. That would prob give us 8-10 usable GB for apps and DRM videos which is not much. Come on HP bring the bigger ones to the US!
See this HP forum post for more info on the 32/64 GB versions: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Androi...X2-32GB-Internal-version-spotted/td-p/2822377
The performance on this tablet is superb. It definitely beats my asus infinity tf700 (still have) and nexus 10 (which i've returned) I don't see any lag or stutter and this is what android tablets should be. Which I can't say the same about the tf700 even with cromi x rom or data2sd mod. The nexus 10 has some stutter issue as well although not as bad. Now I did have wifi issue on my first unit but HP replaced it and sent me one overnight. No more wifi issue on this one. The only gripe I have is the screen does not have a high contrast like my tf700 and it has a warmer tone to it. Also cannot get as bright as the asus. I wish though that HP went with a higher res screen as when I connect to my TV via HDMI it either zooms in too much or I can change my tv setting to "fit" but I have black bars on the side. But it is very smooth on my tv and lag and stutter free. My infinity lags when connected to my TV. Also the rear camera is crap but I never use tablet cameras anyhow. Build quality is pretty good. Keyboard is great but lacks a unlock button. But the multitouch mousepad is great. I can pinch to zoom or do anything I can do with the screen. I really hope Asus' new infinity pad will perform as well as this as this may just be a place holder till they release it.
If you buy from HP LOOK FOR COUPONS.. I got for $455

The good thing is it supports 64gb card. Just put my Sandisk ultra 64gb class 10 and I can see it whether its in the tablet or dock.

I'm wondering the same but haven't found one anywhere even outside xda. Wonder if the slate 7 root method will work. Have to find that thread again. How did you get a 64gb version? I wanted a 32 but could only find a 16gb version on hp.com.

That's what I'm afraid of. Since the tablet is only 16gb I need to be able to use Folder Mount or maybe GL to SD and both require root

Hi,
Does anyone know how much storage is actually left
on a 16 GB Nexus 5 phone???? Or do you need the 32GB??
Just Wondering,
Ken
I'd always never get a 16gb of anything cause after a few games or music your device is full

I guess it depends on how you use the device. I have my old android device that I use at home for music (sort of a designated mp3 player) and a tablet for watching full length movies and reading for long periods.. both of them have expandable microSD. I was also tempted to get a 32gb for the sake of having more than enough... But, I realized the 16gb is perfect for people with my habits... using cloud storage for many work files.. and using google play to stream my music library.. or even using Songza. I found that I have 7gb or more left. Unless I stuff it with mp3s or full length movies.. I really do not need more storage. Also, I do want to add that I do not play much video games that require 1 gb+ of storage. I get bored of games way too easily and do not have time for them.
Of course, if I did not have the tablet's microSD to use for media consumption at home, I may think differently about the storage limit. So it boils down to how you plan to use the device.... is it your main source of entertainment (locally stored movies, music and gaming)? Or, is it designated largely for work and outside use... while you rely on other devices while at home?
Also, if $50 is not a big factor... Go for the big one so you do not have to worry if your habits change in the future. For me, it would have been overkill. In fact, I had an HTC One that had 20gb free at all times.. so it helped in my decision.
Don't agree that the 16gb is not big enough on storage I've got all my music and apps and still have over 6gb left so its just a myth these days with all the cloud storage and Google's own built in storage I have a 32gb ip5 and its got all my music plus films and its still got 12gb so I think 16 GB is plenty IMO the 8gb n4 was a little to small but that's gone. Love my N5
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
If the N5 is my own mobile device, then maybe 16GB isn't enough going forward for the next 2 or 3 years when offline & cloud storage aren't available. I managed 2 HTC's with external mSD cards, a 8MB and a 16MB - both are fine for what it's used for - unless you store lots of mp4's and ripped dvd's on it to watch. Easy solution - rooted N5, Stickmount and 32MB USB (external) drive for DVD playbacks.
At the moment, my 16GB is doing just fine - 12.55 GB total space with 1.25 GB used for about 70+ apps installed, 2.5GB for most recent TWRP & TB backups stored on the device (rest is archived securely offline) and about 1GB worth of MP3's (that's about 30+ hours of playing time, enough for flying nonstop to Asia & back in the unlikely event that IFE on those 777's aren't working) and some photos - leaving about 7GB free and that's plentiful.
When we travel, the Nexus 7 (32GB model) is nearly almost alongside and it has about 13GB free - as companion to the N5 or vice versa - I would be worried more about running out of power than anything else, IMO - same capacity as Mrs. L's iPad2 whereas SIL's tablet only has 16GB & is running just fine. I have gotten into the habit of moving & storing zip files & roms, etc. for development purposes offline on the desktop - and, not to leave everything on any mobile device, in the unlikely event it is damaged, lost or stolen, etc. etc.
End of my generalization, YMMV - of course.
Thanks

I have a Samsung EVO 256 GB Micro SD. Will it work? Different sources tell me different things, the huawei website says only up to 128 gb, but maybe someone has found that 256 gb works for a certain rom?
Also, not sure if it matters, but I am in the USA and would be purchasing from Bestbuy.
only 128gb

256gb won't work in that phone, it supports only 128gb
It should
Gsmareana says otherwise and so do some reviews. The honor 8 should support it considering it uses the same filing system.
I've seen reports of people using 256GB working, but was told going 256GB could hurt the card's longevity.
Is this from mine, but I have a US model.. Don't know if it makes a difference.

So 256 GB is working without any workaround ?
Why would someone want a 256gb card?
Movies - screen too small
Uncompressed music - dac not good enough
RAW shooting - 128gb is more than enough
4K shooting - not available
Also 256gb card isn't affected in its longevity.
I got it for free from Samsung. 32 gb isn't enough for me, and it'd be nice if I don't have to go out and buy another one.
Anyone have any thoughts on why Huawei lists it as 128gb limit for expandable storage?

If I had had any 256Gb card around me I would try it for you but unfortunatelly I hadn't. I see there are different oppinions about this case but nothing certain.
If this is the only thing keeping back you from this phone than I can't help but since it is not such a big deal to buy a 64-128GB on ebay/aliexpress (and even you can sell yours) and I would buy the phone.
(I think it would work but I wasn't the guy giving the specifications at Honor).

You don't know how many files other people keep. If I had that much space in SD, I would've used 200 of it.

True. But it has to be an exception. Regular Joe doesn't need that much. Even an enthusiast user.
For the card just format extFAT in the PC and put it in the phone. It won't break anything. The worst it might happen is the sdcard not being recognized.

In an other thrad there is a user who has a 256Gb card in his phone. So it seem to be working but I would highly recommend asking him in PM which version of the phone he is using. Link
256GB should work, if it's anything like other phones with 128GB limit. As far as I'm aware, manufacturers only normally test and approve up until 128GB, but it will most likely work.
On another note, I wish the 64GB version was available in Europe!

So why did they put a 128GB limit if 256 will work just fine?
Sent from my honor 5X using XDA Labs
How long have the 256GB cards been available in the micro form factor now? (It doesn't seem like it was that long ago that the biggest was 200GB...for some reason?) I'd guess either 256GB cards weren't available or Honor just didn't put some through the validation process. They still come at quite a price premium over 128GB cards, so that was almost certainly worse a year ago.
I'm using the 256 gb card and it is working fine
