[Q] 32Gb classes 10 & 6 MicroSDHC UHS-1 not supported by TF300T(G) - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Preamble: I curently own a TF300TG on JRO03C.WW_epad_10.4.3.9-20121106 stock, locked and not rooted
I've recently bought a Samsung 32Gb Class 10 MicroSDHC UHS-1 and the tablet failed to recognize it, while my i9000 and the PC had no trouble accessing it.
I've tried formatting it again to FAT, exFAT and NTFS without any luck.
Next I sent an e-mail to Asus support, who replied that my and any other card above class 6 is not supported, which seems to be backed up by statements of some people having similar trouble with smaller sized cards of class 10.
This post servers both as a warning to those interested in buying a card for their tablet, and as an interrogative mark for everyone: do you have a working class10 microsd in your TF300T(G)? If so, what make is it, and what firmware are you on? Do you think this is a hardware or a perhaps a stock firmware limitation?
Thanks,
Cheers

I have a microSandisk 32 Gb class 10
It worked on ICS rom from Asus.
Asus JB rom I do not know.
Have changed rom many times.
It works with Surdu_Petrus roms and kernels
Can not get it to work with Clemsyn kernels
:crying:

I'm using a Sandisk 32gb class 10 on my TF300T running JB with no issues at all. :good:

Hi guys,
Given your answers, and to the fact that my old i9000 recognizes it without problems, I tend to incline it'd be a stock firmware limitation, rather than a hardware one... Also I got another reply yesterday from Asus, which among others, reads: "This is a hardware limitation, not a software one. Although with a firmware update you might be able to use your card"
I'm thinking of buying a class 6, and keep this one for my Hero2.
Cheers

Yea if it works haha. I'm curious, if it doesn't I'm wondering if it would be the ROM and if the one you built would help. I knows the card slot works as I've had a 16 class 10 work in it.

Well, I have a feeling Paranoid Android would read it since its reading my 32gb.
Oh,I didn't build the ROM either, I'm just running it.
Keeganmccallum ported it for us.

Update: Got a Samsung class 6 32GB microsd UHS-1 and history repeats itself. Well kind of, because when I plug in the card, the OS becomes unresponsive for about 2 minutes, but in the end I still can't use it.
I'm wondering if it's not a UHS related firmware limitation...

Hello and happy new year, I'm back some news:
- Got a Kingston 32GB Micro SDHC which didn't work as well.
- Finally bought a Sandisk 32GG Micro SDHC UHS-1 which finally works without any problem. For future references I've attached below an image of the package I received

You guys need to make clear, this is for the built-in MicroSD slot, right? Not the SD slot in the extension keyboard...

The title does not say anything about the dock / extension kb, and we're talking about Micro SD(HC) not about SD cards, but just to make it as clear as possible yes, we're referring build in MicroSD slot.

SanDisk 64GB Micro SDXC

Who's buying one of these, they don't come cheap at $219, but according to this article:
http://androidcommunity.com/sandisk...working-on-multiple-android-devices-20110927/
They work on the Evo 4G, and if they work on devices from way back then, then it should work on the DHD/Inspire.
Can anyone test it for the DHD?
I'm Android Communities source - here is the source material (which includes a YouTube video that they omitted):
http://www.androidnz.net/2011/09/sandisk-64gb-micro-sdxc-cards-confirmed.html
I'm really very certain it will also work in the DHD, but as always confirmation is nice - I will be at an Android meetup next week so hopefully can test it in lots of devices (bound to me a DHD there).
Afaik, it shouldn't be able to access more than 32gb of its memory, even if it works.

There are also reports that they are working on many older devices for those wondering. Some include the EVO 4G, original Galaxy S, and even the HTC Desire Z (aka T-Mobile G2). With both old and new, smartphones and tablets being able to take advantage of the 64GB SD cards this is a good sign many more will have the same fate.

Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital#SDHC_and_SDXC_compatibility_issues
SDHC and SDXC compatibility issues
In the 3.0 specification, the electronic interface of SDHC and SDXC cards is the same. This means that SDHC hosts that have drivers that recognize the newly used capability bits, and have operating system software that understands the exFAT filesystem, are compatible with SDXC cards. The decision to label cards with a capacity greater than 32 GB as SDXC and to use a different filesystem is due solely to the limitations in creating larger filesystems in certain versions of Microsoft Windows.[citation needed] Other operating system kernels, such as Linux, make no distinction between SDHC and SDXC cards, as long as the card contains a compatible filesystem.
SDHC and SDXC cards and hosts have these compatibility issues:
Existing SDHC hosts will only support the SDXC cards at up to UHS104 speeds.[45]
SDXC hosts are backward compatible with SD and SDHC memory cards.[61]
The operating systems that support SDXC, as of 2011, are: Linux (with a proprietary driver for the exFAT filesystem),[62] Microsoft Windows 7, Windows Vista SP1+,[61] Windows XP SP2 or SP3 with KB955704,[63] Windows Server 2008 SP1+, Windows Server 2003 SP2 or SP3 with KB955704, Windows CE 6+, Mac OS X 10.6.5 or later.[64]

Why would you buy this card for 219$? It's way too much...I just bought a 32GB class 10 card on eBay for 51$ (Ridata brand. Although it's not Sandisk but it's a known memory cards company).
Price goes up logarithmically as you aproach the top.
This has been true for almost everything, everytime in technology, from processors, ram, motherbards, hdd.. etc
But no, i would not give 219$ (or half of it) for a 64gb card. If it where a 2tb card, perhaps

It works as it should. Let's get something straight, the Desire HD DOES NOT SUPPORT SDXC. That, doesn't mean it will not work. Just that HTC washes their hands of it.

I'm currently looking at the new samsung cards. I believe they are the fastest class 10 micro sd's around with a 24 MB/s read and write speed.

You should be advised though, that's MAX/PEAK transfer speed.
The sdcard reader/writer in the dhd might not even support it!

Why do you think so?
Isn't 64 gig to big for dhd. May be lagging a bit?
Is you 500gb computer any slower with 1tb ?

can't mount 64gb microSDXC ultra sandisk

this card works fine on my S3, i'm really shocked as my 10.1 note does not even mount it, when i install it it says its now safe to remove, tried restarting, formating, swapping with 32gb and it mounts it fine, please help as i paid alot for the 64 and its not refundable
The problem is that right now the note doesn't support exfat whichthe 64gb cards ship with. I can confirm that a 64gb card does indeed work if is is formatted as fat32. There is a guide out there somewhere for formatting the 64gb cards as fat32 (windows doesn't show that option for 64gb cards) but I can't remember where I saw it. A Google search should be in order for that.

solved
note 10.1 is not as good as s3, s3 accepts the 64gb format, to make it work on the note 10.1, you must downlaod a tool on windows to allow format memories bigger than 32gb to format to fat32, although it wont be the fastest, but atleast got it finally working
so i confirm the memory working but not out of the box, you need a custom software on windows to format fat32 as windows maximum formats 32gb to fat 32

All 64gb cards read as 59gb... Its due to the manufacturers calculating 64000x1000 instead of 64000x1024.... The tab uses the binary system - that a kilobyte is 1024bytes not 1000bytes. This happens with ALL digital media...

What is the largest microSD card proven on the PhotonQ LTE? details?

Motorola's website says 32gb microSD is the largest supported by the Photon Q LTE and the Droid 4.
But, I have read the Droid 4 is reading 64gb microSD cards.
So, what is the make & model of the highest GB microSD card that's been proven to be read by the Photon Q LTE stock?
Modded?
Method of Modding?
Recommended microSD card and vendor?

I'm using the SanDisk 32GB Class 10 microSD card you linked to, and it works great. I've read that 64GB cards work, but I don't own one of my own to verify it.
Typically, 64 GB cards will work, they just need to be formatted to FAT32 before the phone will read them. Most/all 64 GB cards on the market are shipped formatted to ExFAT.
Personally, I am using the 32 GB class 10 SanDisk card with no problems.
Using ADATA 32 GB card, class 10, no problems.
I just tried using one of my 64GB class 10 cards this morning. No bueno. I tried formatting as NTFS or exFAT. FAT32 was not an option for formatting a card that size.
So I tried to format it from the phone directly, but it wouldn't do it.
I believe the support for 64GB is in Android 4.1
You have to format it either over a tool like "MiniTool Partition Magic" or use linux.
Microsoft is blocking FAT32 on "too big" external storages...
32gb SanDisk card here.
I think the 64gb story is correct, it will work formatted FAT32. Use basically anything but the built-in Windows utility to format...
samsung 32gb, no problemo.
I am using a 64 gb San Disk. I have been using it since February with no problems. :good:

You'll have to make sure the card is formatted FAT32. I've heard a lot of the cards larger than 32gb (beyond SDHC) come formatted exFAT.
So, I called Moto Tier 2 tech on the phone and they told me the Micro SD will support Class 10 speeds.
Then, they tell me that 32gb should be the max used.
They said that "If you use a 64gb card, it will cause issues and errors because it will overwhelm the hardward and RAM of the PhotonQ".
I was about to order a Snadisk 64gb Class 10 card, but not I'm not comfortable.
Any thoughts ????

I'm not an expert, but that doesn't make much sense to me. I've never seen that to be the case with anything else, either it works or it doesn't.
I'm also not an expert, but there was a similiar problem on PCs with 32 bit and HDDs with over 2 TB.
Some programs could not use the space over 2 TB or made problems with those HDDs.
Maybe there's a limitation in the ARM architecture?
Can only guess.

The hard drives over 2.2TB is a problem with the MBR
No, that was not the only problem.
In connection with cryptsetup the "plain" module had also problems.
The "plain64" module have no issues. -> http://code.google.com/p/cryptsetup/wiki/FrequentlyAskedQuestions#5._Security_Aspects (look at 5.15)
As I said, I am not an expert, but if there exists a plain64 (like 64bit?), I assume the old one was 32bit code.
It's just a guess, I don't know exactly, why the problem exists.
Honestly I think this is just Motorola practicing CYA (Cover Your A**). Most end users aren't going to have a clue that an SDXC card needs to be formatted in FAT32 to work with the phone, nor are they going to know that they need a third party utility to do so in Windows. Motorola probably just doesn't want to deal with support issues and unhappy customers when a 64GB card doesn't work out of the box. I see no real reason why it would "stress the hardware" any more than any other SD card, it doesn't require more voltage or amperage.
There is no issue with the ARM architecture, as it handles 64GB just fine on other phones, once the card is formatted to FAT32.
If you are right, then I am sure, that a 64 GB will work.
A friend of mine own such a SD-card (if I remember correctly), I will ask him if I could try it out.
If he owns this SD-card, then he should be using it with a Samsung Galaxy S3, stock firmware.

Which 64gb microsdxc card will you get?

Just wondering which 64gb microsdxc cards are you guys looking to use with your new s4? WIth al the issues with the sandisk 64, wondering if it's worth paying the little extra for samsung 64gb pro UHS1 (does the s4 support that speed?) Anyone know?
Also are you guys planning to use exfat? I hear some of the roms w/the old s3 had issues with exfat and needed fat32
Haven't heard of any problems with the s4, pretty sure there will be more info by next saturday
So I ended up getting the samsung 64gb microsdxc UHS1 speed rated, and also bought a USB 3.0 card reader that supports it. I suspect however the s4 (like the s3) will not support the higher UHS speeds:
I ordered the same card yesterday. I think the quality is alot better than sandisk. And even if the sgs4 dont support the full speed. It's still worth the few bugs more.
But maybe it do support it? Will have to wait and see.

That's also what I have. I've had no problems using it in my Sansa Fuze and Galaxy S.

Yeah the sandisk is no doubt good enough. But the samsung is faster. But the question is. Does the phone even support the ekstra speed.

Don't you have a promotional deal from Samsung in your country? We, in the Netherlands, get a 64gb c10 sd card from Samsung with the S4.
i really love faster loading apps, though i'm normally limited in how many apps i can store on the sd card... however!
-the faster write speed will definitely come in handy when taking dual shot video
-the faster read speed is definitely worth getting UHS-1 but i doubt that you will notice much difference between the sandisk and samsung versions no matter what you're doing.
still, much thanks for the benchmarks, the samsung card will definitely offer a more future-proof solution
How does the Samsung 64GB MicroSD stack up in terms of speed vs the Galaxy S4 internal memory? Also, is it worth the extra $10 or so for the Samsung version vs Sandisk?

What issues are you referring to, testinguser? I'm using the same card mentioned above in my SIII with no issues.....

my 32gb sandisk was effed in my s3, mounted and unmounted every minute, could take a battery from 100 ~ 30 in an hour with screen off in your pocket.. replaced it with a new one and has worked fine since, there's a visual difference of the memory array on the card, so i think there's a upgraded hw version of the sandisk microsd cards. got my bad one from bestbuy last black Friday

Huh.... strange, I bought mine during Black Friday too, not from BBY though, and hasn't caused any problems! But that's what "a bad batch" means, I wasn't in that batch, thankfully
thats good news!! i have not had a bad card either

I went with SanDisk because I've had the fewest problems with that brand compared to say Sony or PNY. I tried using the card as exFAT and ran into problems. Furthermore, it's incompatible with CWM (due to the Microsoft patent, they can't include support), so I used guiformat to reformat it FAT32, and now it runs smoothly and is visible to CWM. Having so much room at hand is quite liberating.
For what it's worth, the 64GB Samsung Extreme Pro card is $49.99 at your local Frys (if you have one nearby) until 5/23.

If not, Amazon recently dropped their pricing to $52.98 shipped.

Picked that up at Radio Shack for $43 before Christmas. Formatted it to fat32 for my Note 2 and popped it in the S4 with no issues.
When I buy another one it'll be SanDisk or Samsung.

[SPECS] All about Acer Iconia Tab 8 A1-840

I got this new tablet, it´s the HD version of the Acer Iconia Tab 8 A1-840. I did some research but I didn't find anything about it, except for this guide of how to root it http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/guide-root-acer-iconia-tab-8-a1-840fhd-t2933317
The tablet is an alternative to the Dell Venue 8 or the Asus Memo Pad 7 ME176C, and it has a great price. Also, it's shape is equal to the A1-840FHD.

kitkat 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 ?
Are you sure your android version is 4.4.4 ? What time you get an update ?
Yes it's 4.4.4 and Acer has not given any date, but they said Lollipop will be released for some devices.

This was at Costco for $150.00 but with RAM 2 GB and a WUXGA 1920x1200 screen. They give the battery a Wh rating: 17. It seems to be a credible replacement for a dead Nexus 7 I have. With the better screen and the micro SD card slot. I wanted to write reviews last week but couldn't find anywhere to do it because this version is not out there yet.

I also saw this at Costco but a bar code scan did not 0887899841224 return any information about it.
My question is about the 32 GB micro SD card slot.
Is that strictly hardware limitations or can it be increased with a custom rom flash?
It would NOT read my 64 gb micro SD card when I took it from my phone and tried it on the display unit.
My beloved Asus tf101 Transformer is finally dying after so many years.

I'm sorry I can't really help you with that. I took them at their word and picked up a 32GB card. It would be great to be able to step up to 64GB though. Also I am not able to move data from a jump drive straight to the tablet. It needs to be unlocked for that to occur.
All in all for the price, its a nice deal.

Thank you for responding so quickly. Is there an actual product number from the literature that it came with?
The reviews that I looked at are over a year old and I do not believe it's the same item as they said the screen was only ok. I looked at the screen and wow that's vivid and nice.
Is the bootloader locked?
You think we will be able to root it? Custom rom it?
My Asus tf101 transformer tablet was built in 30 March 2011.
It currently has an outstanding development person that has a KITKAT 4.4.4 that's outstanding fast.
Faster than what it shipped with, AND he's working on the 2nd or 3rd version of lollipop.
On the fence here, thinking Asus or this tablet.

There aren't any reviews of this model out there only for the 1 GB RAM and a lesser screen. Here are a couple of pictures from the box. The safety instructions and such are pretty generic. (Sorry they are upside down.I am left handed and when I grab my phone camera I always take pictures upside down.)

Icona Tab 8 A1-840FHD_2Cws_L16T at Costco
I use SwiftKey but it sometimes has problems with Web entries like this.* I would rather use Tapatalk 2, but IMO the company that produced the Tapatalk 2 application in order to force an upgrade to their horrible ad filled product have disconnected the search for servers. I use Titanium Backup already connected with a backup set that hooked up to XDA.
I noticed the root thread at the beginning of the very first post.
but that looks like it involves hooking it up to my pc, so that will have to be tomorrow, or the weekend.

It may have been the demo model that had it sd card reader disabled.
I got root. Had to use a different laptop.
I am impressed with the standby abilities of the tablet.
My first thought was let titanium backup this baby and freeze non essential item that are running.
A moment latter thinking, well actually it's doing a great job of not loading the acer software or the other preloaded applications.
Anyone working on lollipop rom?
