[Q] Completely dead Touchscreen - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there!
Yesterday i got a notification on my phone, and as I turned on the screen and tried to unlock I realised that the phone didn't respond to any touches.
As is normal, I did a hard reboot of the device, which didn't fix the issue. I then booted into recovery to reinstall my kernel, but as I have Philz recovery installed, I noticed that there were also no touches registered.
I proceeded to reflash my kernel navigating with the volume- and power keys, but after a reboot It didn't fix my issue.
Then I tried reföashing the latest modem, but that didn't help also.
After that I disassembled my phone to see if any connector was loose, but there wasn't.
From this point on I've got no clue what could be wrong as there is no visible damage to the digitizer glass, or the screen assembly in general. I also didn't flash anything wrong. As I said, I unlocked my device, and suddenly the touchscreen was dead.
I am taking my phone to a repair shop today, and I'll see if anything can be fixed. If not, I'll buy a screen assenbly online, and replace it by myself, but that is rather the second option as one either costs 130€, or it takes two months to ship.
Anyone else got this problem, or knows what is wrong?
Help is appreciated.
EDIT: Repair Shops website literally say "We repair any model from any manufacturer" but when I asked the guy he said, quote, "We don't carry those crappy China phones". Obviously he has got no f*ing clue what he's talking about, guess I'll never go there again
Edit #2: Touch now works but somehow only in recovery

Lol

Sometime when you put your phone in the pocket and you give the pressure too much it can break the chip of touchscreen too!

@chillstep1998 it sounds like touch screen driver has died. Send it to OPO to be repaired.

So i got.this off of warranty repair and they said this got no problems. I had this issue before repair. After repair and even after jelly bean...
I have filmed a video on this happening and thought of "attacking" the store where i bought this. And forcing them to exchange my device.
I have seen guys having this problem a long time ago, but now its happening to me!
Have any of you had this...
i only have this kind of problems when my display is not cleaned well.

I haven't seen your video but I came here to post a thread about this. When not plugged into the keyboard, there are basically ghost touches perpetually, I literally can't do anything. I restarted and it's still a problem, but not when plugged into the keyboard. I'll repost if I can/can't figure anything out.

Disregard that its terrible even with the keyboard its taken like 15 mintes to type this does a factory reset help?
I have done over 7 factory resets and no help it always comes back, but I started to think about the screen cleaness becaause this screen is very sensitive, i can press this with my nails and all sorts of cables. It also registers a touch even if my finger hovers over the screen so it would make so much sense if a small dust bit has landed on the screen and make it go crazy...

Wooooow..... I returned it 3 times to the store until I got one with a screen that doesn't bleed on the edges and has a working gps, and now that I can't return it to the store any more I'm getting this BS? It was completely fine until yesterday... If the factory can't fix the problem and return me a perfect tablet I'm going to lose my mind. It's already going to take a month just to send it in and wait for the repair/return........... How completely ridiculous.
There's NO fix for this? It has nothing to do with the screen cleanness, it happens all the time every time regardless of how crystal clean the screen is, and it never used to happen even when the screen got pretty messy. Any other ideas before I say goodbye to it for a few weeks.
Yep i think we both have a faulty device... think im going to ask for a exchange. :banghead:

HELP!!! One X randomly turns off

I was on the phone with my One X and the battery was green, when next thing you know I look at the screen and it's black and holding the power button does nothing. I then try to plug it in, but the LED indicator does not come up either, any help? Also, the computer does not recognize it when plugged in, it was 0n stock 2.20

I found a similar problem on androidforums and here is what he said:
Got my One X on Monday this week, haven't had any problems until now and thought it was a great phone. Just finished making a call though, went to press "End Call" and the screen didn't switch back on and now doesn't seem to want to do anything. Have plugged into the mains and it's not charging but when I call the phone externally it still rings.... Confused is not the word!
and the solution for him was holding the power button for more than 10 seconds, that doesn't work for me, although it was the exact same problem, please please please, any help would be greatly appreciated

yes i have. well the problem with that being, I bought the phone with a cracked screen a little while ago and it has been working fine, but haven't gotten around to fixing it and if I wanted to get a replacement from ATT I would have to fix the screen which is why I'm trying to fix it
The problems you guys were having is just proximity sensor and screen timeout together. His isn't even recognized by the pc. Since you recently had the screen replaced there is about a 99% chance a ribbon cable wasn't secured properly and came out or there was a hardware failure internally probably related to the phone having to get the screen repaired(scratching the board, or weakening or folding a ribbon cable blah blah) So I think your best bet would be going back inside and start checking all the ribbons and stuff

I think you're in the wrong place, this is the One XL forum and there is no Android Revolution ROM for the XL.
And looking at some of your other posts, this isn't the first time you've posted in the wrong place. Make sure you stay within the One X+ forum, that way you'll be able to get advice from people who actually have your device. Plus you won't accidentally flash something that's not intended for your device.

Touchscreen stopped working after soft brick...

Ok..
I had this phone for a while and I started using it again recently. I have fully replaced the digitizer/lcd bezel before with no problems (been a phone repair tech for 10 years) And it has worked fine.
The other night I reverted it back to stock because it seems to be the only way to get a constant data signal. Worked fine. I then updated it to the newest OTA update without a problem.
I then rebooted it and it stuck on a black screen loop with the buttons going on and off for hours. I spent 7 hours trying to figure out what was wrong, flashing, re flashing.. Nothing. Finally I get CWM recovery installed and find out my SD card is fried. So I put a new one in, and transfer over the roms I want t flash. 3 different roms, all with no touch screen.
Revert back to stock, still no touch screen.
Could something have gone bad on the board to have caused this? Is there something system wise not getting wiped that may cause this? Its to much of a coincidence that the touch screen and buttons would go out after all this happened.
Any help would be appreciated. Im waiting on a new digitizer now to check because Ive already gone over all the connections. But if its something software wise, Id like to try that before doing another digitizer replacement.
Thanks
funny you made this thread. i just got my hands on a soft bricked g2x that was stuck on the blue lg logo. after a quick nvflash it boots right up......but with no touchscreen. not sure if it ever worked as im not the original owner.
but i'll be keeping my eyes out on this thread for sure!
Id give a pretty to see inside both of your phones. Sounds like a bad contact on the ribbons.or one of them may have been ripped during a screen installation. I've never heard of the screen just up and quoting working without some major stuff happening to the phone. My guess is these screens were replaced with the wrong screen.just a guess though.

I have done phone repairs for quite a few years, It wasnt a wrong screen and has worked fine for a year since its replacement. I have already opened the phone again and made sure all contacts were fine. What Im trying to figure out is if there is maybe some part of the system/boot that holds the touchscreen drivers and they have bee erased?
Again, I find its a huge coincidence that it worked fine up until this happened then as soon as its booting again, stops working... Which is why I think its a software issue.
Try touching the corners of the screen after booting up start with the top left and go clockwise. One of the roms used to mess up the connectivity between phone and screen. And that is supposed to reset the touch screen. A old g1 trick

[Q] Phone accident, questions about touch input

Greeting my fellow phonenerds, today I accidently my nexus 5, in the water after having it and loved it with all my heart for more than half a year. My heart stopped and my breath was on strike, but i was quick in turning it off and leaving it for drying in the sun for a few hours (it was pretty hot this day), with the back case opened. I started the phone and saw some quite depressing and scary phenomena, like, flickering screen, lines switching rapidly, but also no touch input, nothing registered, it sometimes "touched itself on random locations" but without my control. So i shut it off, leaving it for more drying, i've also cleansed the electronic connections with acetone very carefully to remove any oxidation or dirt from the water, left it for drying again. The screen is ok now, some little flickering from whiter to darker, but mostly fine, no buggy ****. Altough it cannot still sense my touch input, but i've only tried booting to the main os so i thught, wel lets try booting it in recovery mode, and voila! the touch works fine, but not when booted into the home screen. What is the problem?
The problem is it got wet..... Lol
Sorry, but kinda a silly question.
Water usually fries something.
Send it for repair. ?
---------- Post added at 09:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:59 PM ----------
To be clear....water will not ever, in anyway, affect software.....so I'm sure you have hardware damage, as is usually the case with water damage.
Hey, flash stock to it and see. If it works, awesome!!! If its the same....game over.

Yes, its strange....but could just be how it is. Getting it wet won't alter files... Just fry hardware.
If its the same after a wipe and stock flash....you're probably pooched. That rules out software anyway.
Good luck!

It is strange, doesnt sound logical at all, does twrp use other hardware to sense input? no. Well, somehow the water made the phone buggy, because it works now Clean install of carbonrom.
Edit* I took my joy too early, its still buggy, sometimes the touch works great, then the os freezes and a simple restard of screen can make it funcion again.
I cleanflashed stock. Everything stock. After every clean install I can use the phone flawlessy for about 1 minute, before the screen freezes (animations still show, like background animations) and no touch is registered anymore, if i turn off n on the screen, i may be able to use touch for a few seconds again before it freezes. Im pretty sure my phone is broken, but im not sure what is broken, the touch obviously works, the screen works, its just some other problem, maybe a weird voltage builds up in the screen after you use it for a while because some little connection is fried i dont know. Im just curious what is wrong, maybe i should just send it in to a repair clinic.

Nexus 5 stuck in boot loop, probably power button problem, need some help

Today I was using my Nexus 5, I was on a call and suddenly it rebooted and got stuck in a boot loop then after. It would go till the Google logo or till the 4 dots animation and then keep rebooting itself again and again. I tried going into the recovery but it reboots itself within a second of entering into recovery.
At first I thought it was because of flashing Android L onto my phone, but I had done that several months ago and since it was working fine until today I was suspicious.
After some time I was finally able to turn on my phone but soon I found the probable cause of the problem. The power button wasn't functioning properly. Whenever I would lock my phone the screen would turn ON and OFF a couple of times and sometimes even the Power Off Dialog would appear out of nowhere. I'm guessing the power button is automatically being pressed by itself and is causing all these problems.
I bought my phone in Australia so I don't have the warranty covered here in India. I called LG, they told me the power button itself cannot be repaired, they have to replace the entire board of the phone and it would cost me around 13000 INR (210$)!!! I think the cost is too much for a power button problem.
Another solution would be to send it overseas to Australia where I bought it, but a couple of months ago I had also cracked the outer glass of the camera so I'm worried if it is eligible for replacement since it has some physical damage.
So can anyone help me here? Should I get the power button repaired by some local shop instead of LG? If I do that then maybe I'll even void my Australian warranty and lose my chances of getting it replaced overseas. Or should I just send it and get it replaced?
If anyone else has faced such problem then could you please give any advice to me. Thanks!
I would get the power button replaced locally. If your camera is cracked the warranty is probably voided anyway.

If your phone is still in warranty, consider contacting LG Care in Australia. At least they will give you a free replacement.

I've managed to start the phone once by hitting it :silly: and got the pictures by USB. After that I selected factory reset in order to erase all my stuff. The phone still doesn't boot after I moved it from the table that time.
I did not even rooted my N5, by the moment it has Android 5.0.1 (the first update after it got Lollipop).
It just lasted 11 months. Before the N5 I had the N4 and had similar issues, so I wont buy LG anymore.
Someone with a solution? Can I buy a replacement or something?

I'm so sorry. It is probably a hardware problem. Would still recommend contacting LG. Because if you've tried all that is suggested on this thread and it still doesn't work, there's little chance that a miracle will happen.

Fret not , my friend.
The estimate LG gave me was 13000 to replace the motherboard for a faulty power button.
Took my phone to a local trusted and reliable mobile repair shop.
He fixed it for 250 rs, so yes that's definitely doable!
The problem is theres ICs and **** right beneath the power button , so thats a risk you take when replacing power button.
Too much solder heat will fry the ICs right under where the power button attaches.
My repair guy was totally cool with it.
Im selling my N5 , getting a note 4 .
