I have had my XDA II for two months and since my last synch I find I am now tapping with the stylus in vain on my screen to enter the system. The screen is in perfect condiition but now does not respond. When I pressed the record or camera buttons on the side the programs load but I can't select anything because the screen does not respond to any stylus taps.
I did a hard reset and now I can't get past the first screen that says please tap here to continue.
Has anybody experienced this problem and can they suggest a way forward for me to get it resolved ASAP as a I am going to Spain tomorrow with an XDA II which is not responding to stylus taps.
Sounds like a hardware fault if you have tried a hard reset.
no response
I now know what the problem was.
I put on a new screen protector. And for some reason the XDA cannot sense any taps on the screen from the stylus.
I removed the screen protector and it works fine.
However the XDA did work with the last screen protector that I put on, so I do not know why it doesn´t with the new ones.

I have been using screen protectors from various manufaturers, each time I had to re-calibrate the screen (for that reason) but has never come across situation as described above

Tapping problem
hello mate
The reason for your stylus not to work with the screen protector is because you have the edge of the protector toching the sides od the xda.....make sure you have a very small gap between them.
You didnt mention the screen protector in your first post, I had the same with a protector on an ipaq that was slightly oversize and touched the very edges, no taps worked either until I removed the protector.
anyone else get this?
when applying screen protectors, the edges of the protector all along the right (or left, or bottom) won;t stick.. there's air gaps all the way long. Sometimes its the rigth, sometimes its the left, but with each protector i've tried it appears on them all. I've gone through three HTC protectors, and two Case mate ones, all had the same problem. I've tried wiping the screen edges with mild detergent before applying the cover, but i still have problems.
That's strange. Never had any problems with them on mine.
I am on my second screen protector since I got the phone back in May and I just use some cheap pack of 6 off ebay.

Same here ...
They seem to be just a little big. No more than half a mm or something.
Last time i used a paper-cutting-machine (!?) at work to cut a mm off.
Fits great now!
aha... so they may be a bit too big and somehow resting on an edge? thanks.. i'll try trimming them.
I used my Nexus S without a screen protector, and there was one day when I was using the phone heavily, this part of the screen felt a little rough to the touch when I was swiping it.
Now when I look at the screen I see these faint track marks on the screen that aren't scratches, but it's like something smudged the screen. I have wiped it with microfibre cloth (My Oakleys pouch) but I can't remove this smudge.
It's barely visible when the screen is on but you can see it if the screen is off.
Does anybody else have this problem? Is it a scratch or can I wash this off somehow?
I have similar spots... it's most likely the oleophobic coating wore off in that area. Not sure how it happens, but it seems to be ****ty coating.

I also have one such small spot that is only visible when the screen is off, and only visible at a certain angle with a lot of light. It's been there since I got the phone. It actually looks like it's under the glass, but I can't tell for sure. I can't feel it. I've been keeping an eye on it and I'll utilize Best Buy's protection plan if it gets worse. Im glad I'm not the only one, but this is a little disappointing.
It's problably the oleophobic coating like others said. I have the same thing on mine, and have been thinking of exchanging it because of it. But I think I might as well keep it, as this phone has no other problems, and I'm sure it will probably wear off any phone I get with due time.
Take a paper towel and lightly go over that area. I bet it comes clean so you can't see it anymore until you wipe your oily fingers in that spot again. It seems oils like to get stuck in those spots unless you clean it with something that absorbs oils, and isn't reused over and over.
Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah I am hesitant to do a return as my phone works great with none of the issues faced by others.
I'll try cleaning it as suggested. Thanks!

I had the smudges that Kayatoast talked about. I just wiped it off with a paper towel and it disappeared. I guess we must clean it with something that absorbs oil.
My smudges probably came from the hand lotion...
I've also decided not to return mine because I don't want to get a replacement phone with a worse problem.
As for wiping it off, this may work for others in some situations, but the spot on mine is definitely a blemish/defect. Cleaning it has zero effect.
I used iklear to clean the screen then wiped it down with a microfibre cloth. That took care of the smudge. Then I slapped a screen protector on it and that took care of the smudge..now to get rid of those air bubbles..lol.
I recommend this brand: http://www.protectionfilms24.com/pr...geraeteklasse=7&marke=Samsung&modell=4603&go=
Arrived in 2 days, made by 3M and doesn't affect my screen clarity at all.
I just realized the same type of smudge on mine today. It's not on top of the screen, but seems like it's under it. Like others, I didn't want to exchange it because everything else works fine plus I'm out of my 30 day period with no exchange.
If I remember, I'm probably going to do a warranty exchange before it ends.
When I was cleaning my screen to put on my cheap eBay screen protector, I noticed the same smudge in the middle of my screen. No amount of cleaning removed it completely. On went the screen protector, and "Voila", smudge disappeared .
BTW, the eBay screen protector is very close to screen feel as the naked screen and is completely clear. Free with the $3.99 shipped silicone case... gotta love eBay!!!

You know, I thought this was a joke until I got the cheap screen protectors that came with the S gel case. Yeah, it disappears. Weird since it looked like the smudge was under the screen.
Phew im glad im not the only one, the smudge is barely noticeable except under light and while the screen is off. Going to try to clean it.
Is the smudge you guys are talking about, blue by chance? I have a slight blue streak underneath my screen since it was purchased. To best describe it, it looks like a shiney blue streak from cleaning with windex that never dries.

I think I just ran into my first real problem with the phone. I got a glass screen protector on Amazon, and it absolutely refuses to recognize my fingerprint with the glass on it. The error just keeps telling me to press harder. I never had any issue before without one on.
Took the screen protector off, and now it's back to normal.
I have each thumb trained twice, so recognition shouldn't be a problem at all. I think it's just too thick and it isn't sensing enough pressure to register the fingerprint.
Anyone find a good screen protector that works with fingerprint? I may have to go with a plastic one that won't be as thick as glass.

This is disappointing. When I first looked into this, I found someone claiming to have tested the Oneplus 6T fingerprint sensor with 3 screen protectors on top of each other. I concluded it was not an issue. But now I am seeing plently or articles suggesting that it depends. E.g. "Vivo did mention that only screen protectors of a certain thickness will work with the sensor". I wonder if Nokia will offer or recommend a screen protector.
Also, I don't know if Nokia are using the same sensor as Oneplus, but this is interesting: "[when registering] make sure your environment is not too bright. If possible, you should register a fingerprint in a completely dark environment."
Edit, also spotted this: "We also recommend re-registering your fingerprint every time you add or remove a screen protector."
So as an update, I applied the second screen protector that came in the 2-pack. Removed all of my fingerprints that were stored, and tried to setup new prints.
Took me about 200 tries to get my right thumb registered (not exaggerating), but I couldn't get it to actually read when trying to activate it.
Couldn't get my left thumb to register at all. Just kept saying to press harder. I was pressing so hard I thought I'd break the screen if I pushed harder.
Tried in bright light, as well as a completely dark room. Didn't change the ability for it to register at all.
So overall for this phone, I'm going to say glass screen protectors won't reliably work with the fingerprint scanner. I've ordered a plastic screen protector. Going to try that out, as I'm pretty sure it will work.
I imagine the thickness of glass is the culprit here, due to how the fingerprint sensor works even without a screen protector applied. It seems more difficult to activate than other in-display readers (I have 3 others with in-display readers and they're all incredibly easy to use).
Fingerprint issues aside, I normally go for glass screen protectors because the plastic ones tend to cause more drag when using the phone.
I have generally seen two models. One which is clear and another which has a black border, both with cutouts for sensors, cameras and speakers.
I'm unable to add a link as I'm new to the forums but both examples can be seen on Amazon by searching 'GEEMEE 9h nokia 9 pureview'
Has anyone bought these or similar protectors?
I am interested to know if the black border one covers any part of the screen. I think it looks better on the pictures but in real life I'm not sure how it would look.
I got the Mr.Shield 9h glass and it works fine. The issue with the fingerprint is a software issue. The warning to press harder is not correct. I've verified that the reader will read with normal to light pressure. Hopefully they will release an update that fixes it within the next couple months.

I just got the screen protector with the black borders, and it doesn't cover any part of the screen. I think it looks good. But I was a bit sloppy when I applied it and one of the corners has an air bubble which I can't get rid of.
But since I applied it, the fingerprint scanner is causing me problems. It has problems recognizing my prints

I ended up going for a clear one tempered glass protector. I have a couple of tiny bubbles which was just me rushing as I was excited.
The finger print sensor works fine as long as I get my finger in the correct place but that is a challenge. My thumb is more difficult but still possible. It hasn't been a massive burden though because I have been using face and trusted bluetooth device to good effect.
I recently bought a Poco X3 NFC and after installing a Glass screen protector I found out that the Touch does not work properly on the top of the screen and this only happens when I lay down the phone on a soft ground like bed (vertically holding in the hand causes no issue!).
I even changed the Glass but the problem persists. Without a Glass there is no issue and Touch functions just smoothly.
I would like to know if anyone has experienced the same issue or this is just an issue with my phone.
