[Q] Advice, urgent - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay so my moto g is on lolipop gpe converted, but i want to go back stock. i know how to flash it and stuff but is there a chance i can brick it due to bootloader differences or anything? like how do i go about this do i need 4.4.4 or is 4.4.2 ok? thanks. *URGENT*

To be safe, flash a 4.4.4 ROM but don't flash motoboot.img even if you don't have the 41.18 bootloader.
I was able to flash my xt1032 with the 41.18 bootloader back to stock Telus 4.4.4. I was even able to flash stock US Retail 4.4.4. I never tried 4.4.2 and I never flashed motoboot.img.

how do i know if its 4.4.4 or 4.4.2??

You'll have to look at the Moto g firmware names. Sometimes, you have to guess. It;s important because you want to ensure that the modem in your phone supports the ROM and carrier.
Do you have the xt1032 (i.e. falcon)?

yeah mate thats the one

What bootloader is on your phone? If you have the 41.18, you'll experience the ripple effect on your phone until you lock/unlock your phone using the lockscreen.

Can this work..

Now all varients of the moto g are receiving the stock 4.4.4 update. Can I restore back to that 4.4.4 stock firmware?? Where can I find the XML file or when would it be released?

In theory, yes. But, if you have a soft-bricked Moto G buy downgrading from 4.4.4 to 4.4.2, is most certain that you lost your IMEI, so if you can resolved the soft-brick, you still have a broken phone withou networt.

My phones not bricked,i dont know what it is, but its working, i can flash 4.4.4 roms, any other roms previous to 4.4.4 give me a encryption error? Fastboot gives me bootloader validation errors when trying to flash things.. its wierd man, like my phones in a custom rom comba ahha
So you think when they release the files for the stock 4.4.4 roms i can flash stock 4.4.4?

GPE to stock, firmware image

Hi, i've been reading a lot of posts explaining how to do "GPE LP to KK", and other things, but i want to know if i can flash the BR 5.0.2 firmware image directly above my 5.0.1 GPE without any problems. Thanks in advance
If you manually flash the stock BR 5.02 to each partition using fastboot commands, you should be fine. Every file will flash except for the motoboot file. I say this because I was able to flash stock Telus 4.4.4 on an xt1032 that I converted to the GPE edition.
So doesn't matter if motoboot refuse to flash, because GPE and Stock LP have the same included, right?
For me, stock 4.4.4 and stock 5.02 both worked on my xt1032 with bootloader 41.18.
Even if you tried to flash an older bootloader, it would fail the validation check.
Ok finally i managed to downgrade to EU retail 4.4.4 and then OTA to 5.0.2. All the process was great. Thank you for your help [emoji4]

Upgrading XT1032 bootloader

Hi all,
I just tried to upgrade my old CyanogenMod from January to a recent nightly and got hit by an error caused by my old KK bootloader (http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...uently-questions-t2996087/page24#post59520890). The guy in that thread offers a supposedly official Brazilian Lollipop bootloader, but I'm a bit hesitant 1) downloading something like that from unknown origin on the net and 2) I have a UK XT1032 (I think it was unbranded, bought in Tesco), not Brazilian. So what are my options?
Can I get the official bootloader from Motorola, by downgrading to 4.4.4 and then get the OTA? Or is it not available yet for my phone?
If I were to do that, can I unlock/root the phone again and get a custom ROM or is there no unlock yet for the Moto stock LP stuff?
What are my options, besides staying on my January CM ROM?
Thank you very much for any input!
You could manually flash the GB 4.4.4 stock ROM for the xt1032, update apps, take the 5.02 OTA update, and be running a Lollipop bootloader.
I just flash manually stock 5.0.2

Which version do you recommend for the xt1032?
Or, if you're skilled enough, just manually fastboot flash the tz, rpm, sdi, aboot and sbl1 partitions extracted from any 5.0.x OTA package for XT1032. I did the procedure on my 1031 (with corresponding files for the 1031, of course) and it worked nicely.

it doesn't need the ota-update-way

That sounds like a good plan. So
1) GB 5.02 OTA is already out for all XT1032 devices? I read somewhere else we're still waiting?
2) Is my phone still unlocked after this, i.e. can I install a custom recovery, root etc. and custom roms afterwards?
Thanks =)
The 5.02 OTA for GB ROM has been released from what I have read.
Once the phone is sim and bootloader unlocked, flashing ROMs, recoveries, etc. will not relock the bootloader or sim lock the phone.

That's great to know! My worries was about that flashing the bootloader could result in a newly locked one. Thank you very much!

How to downgrade 5.0.1 GPE to Motorola 4.4.2 non-GPE?

I have a XT1032. In the past it ran Motorola (not GPE or anything) Kitkat 4.4.2. Three months ago I upgraded it to GPE 5.0.1, because of my stupidity for not realizing what "GPE" meant. I hate this GPE and have already done with it. Could you guys, please, show me a way to go back to Motorola firmware Kitkat 4.4.2. I don't want anything relating to GPE anymore. :crying::crying::crying:
My XT1032 is en-us version, FYI.
Download the stock 4.4.4 ROM for your phone from here: http://www.filefactory.com/folder/c6cdedc45a775d27/?sort=filename&order=ASC&show=100&page=1
Flash it manually using fastboot commands. Do no flash anything below 4.4.4 as doing so may brick your phone.

Thank you. Instead of downgrading, can I upgrade GPE 5.0.1 to Motorola 5.0.2, then wait for Motorola 5.1 OTA update? Is there any risk to switch between GPE and non-GPE (Motorola)?
The partition layouts are slightly different and I believe the data partition on gpe (ext4) and stock (f2fs) are not the same.

audit13, I really don't understand all the commands I need to type when using mfastboot. When upgrading my phone to GPE, I followed this post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/general/gpe-ota-lrx21z-5-0-1-xt1033-xt1032-t2969847). Is there any difference? Could you show me some links to learn about how to use those commands? I don't know what I should type, what I should do step-by-step. Thank you.

Moto G xt1031 Stock Firmware Bootloop

well this is interesting whenever I try to flash the stock firmware for my Moto G xt1031 ... it goes into a boot loop upon it saying "starting services" the only fix I found is to install a custom ROM... and I also cannot activate it with boost since I want to sell this phone.
Look for correct firmware for your Moto..
And local firmware..
Need more info...
What firmware are you flashing?
What's your system version?
What's your bootloader version?
Did you erase userdata?
Did you flashed the lollipop soak test?
Did you "upgrade" your bootloader?
Are you getting any errors when you flash the stock firmware?
Are you flashing with fastboot or mfastboot?
