Xiaomi Piston 2 In-Line Mic? - X 2014 Accessories

Hi,
I've just received my Xiaomi Piston 2's and the in-line volume buttons don't appear to work on the Moto X. The central pause/play button works fine. They work fine on a Nokia Lumia that I have lying around, so I don't think it's a problem with the earphones. I haven't had a chance to test them in any other Android phones though.
Additionally I'm having an issue with Moto Voice. I can launch Moto Voice by pressing and holding the central button, but it appears to be listening through the phone's microphone, not the in-line mic on the earphones. When using Google voice search straight from the home screen it picks it up fine from the earphone's mic. The microphone works fine in-call. I am disappointed because one of the main reasons I purchased these was to use Moto Voice while cycling.
I'm on stock Lollipop 5.0. I haven't tested them on KitKat.
Anybody experience anything similar? Any tips or advice?

I have the same issue as you
My headset works fine with nexus 5 but not with Moto X

I have the same problem with 5.0.2 in my Moto X2 but in my Samsung S2 the volume buttons works fine, so as you said its a Moto X2 problem

The volume controls on all three of my headsets (various manufacturers) do not work on my Moto X. I'm pretty sure it's just not compatible with volume controls.

The earphone buttons work grand in my other phones...
Does anybody know any workaround or "fix" for this? I'd really love to be able to use these with my Moto X instaed of bringing the Windows Phone around with me...

I was reading reviews about the Xiaomi Piston 2.1 headphones and came across this:
"remapping the button controls on android are a little more challenging. Your options are apps in google play to do this, going to mi.com and downloading/flashing xiaomi mi launcher for android, or living with the mapping as is. Volume up down for the two button side and pause, or answer call on the one button side."

Thanks, but I think that's just for remapping them, they *should* work fine without assigning custom actions to them.
I'm after dropping my set out of my pocket while cycling home so unfortunately I can't test it...
OT: Does anybody have any suggestions for earphones that do work with the Moto X (specifically with Moto Voice through the in line mic) ?

Xiaomi Piston 3 - also not work with MotoX
I have a Xiaomi Piston 3 and only middle button works to play/stop music.
Anybody founds a solution for others buttons?

it probably is an uncompatibility with audio jack in moto x 2014. these headsets uses ctia plugs, while moto x 2014 uses omtp jack. dont know if a conversor would make it work.
ps.: sorry, i'm not good in english

I think that's the case. Moto x 2014 as well as Moto X 2013 just don't support volume controls on headsets. Shame on Motorola. Those were not budget phones to cut the functionality.

Headphones w. Mic

Hello guys!
I'm interested in a pair of headphones/handsfree, but I've tried a few "universal" units and either the buttons or the mic doesn't work with the RAZR HD.
Is there any way we can identify which headphones/handsfree fit on our unit?
Thanks in advance.

I will try out my wife's Klipsch Reference One's when I get home and next week I will have a pair of Miles Davis Trumpets to try out too so I will let you know.

There are two specifications for implementing headset-based remote controls. One way is the way Apple implements headset controls. The other way is how everyone else in the industry implements headset controls. (sounds very "Apple-like" doesn't it?)
You can use this general rule:
If the headset says it works with the Apple iPhone, then it probably won't work for the Droid RAZR.
Quick example of this:
Klipsch Image S4: Version of headphones without headset controls.
Klipsch Image S4i: Same headphones, has headset controls that work with Apple iPhones (but not Android)
Klipsch Image S4a: Same headphones, has headset controls that work with Android.
Thanks for the input, but I have tried samsung galaxy s hands free for example and they don't work.

Just to be clear... the headphones and mic for these kinds of heatsets will always work regardless of intended Apple / Android manufacturer. Handling audio is just pure analog electrical signals.
However, the push button controls will depend on how the smartphone manufacturer implemented the control specifications. So even though your Dr. Dre Beats for your iPhone works for your Android smartphone, I'll bet that the buttons (Fast Forward / Rewind / Skip Track / Mute / Volume Up / Volume Down) does not work for Android the way that it works for iPhone.
I have been using Skullcandy ink'd with mic for over 6 months. At TjMaxx and Marshall's for $9.99. I also have Klipsch Promedia with Microphone. They both work flawlessly, but you can't go wrong with Skullcandy for the price. They sound awesome, come with lifetime warranty, and cost so little.
anyone can tell me if this

is compatible with razr hd?
thks a lot!
I would assuming they are the mic one they will. I have a pair of skullcandy fmj's and they work just fine. Also have a pair of Skullcandy 50/50 just the track control buttons don't work but the middle button and the mic work

I always find problems right in-ear headphones.
The classical noise -cancelling headphones I find after a while very troublesome to wear and uncomfortable.
On -ear is not the right option .
The best experience so far I 've been using Apple EarPods and additionally EarSkinz .
I was a bit skeptical about Bose Sound True , but has shown that the headphones very comfortable to wear and deliver a balanced sound quality.
The headphones I use with my OnePlus One - all buttons function as it should.
Got them, only pause works..... was the same on my Moto X 2014...... that being said, they sound amazing. I would buy them again
Does the inline microphone work with the opo?
SportSound Problems
I recently bought the Bose SportSound ear phones, Samsung Galaxy edition and they fit and sound great BUT none of the volume keys nor the mic work with my opo. Any suggestions?

Bluetooth earpiece that supports Moto Voice/Google Now

I actually have not yet received my Moto X, but I am looking for a new earpiece to go with it. I obviously want something comfortable with good sound quality, but my "killer feature" would be one that supports Google Now or Moto Voice search when pressing the button. I saw that the Moto Hint is "always listening," and while I don't need that I would take it if there was an earpiece with better battery life/sound quality than the Hint.

Pretty sure most bluetooth earpieces support it. Most of them have a voice command button now that works with Siri and Google Now. I have the Aftershokz Bluez 2 and they work with both Siri and Google Now/Moto Voice.
I use the lg tone pro Bluetooth. Works perfectly plus there's an app that offers just a little extra functionality... Don't know how many bluetooths offer that

I currently have an older Jabra BT2080 and the voice command button pulls up an old-style "voice dialer" on my Nexus 5. My Moto X is arriving today so I can test it there but I assume it may be the same. Also, I am really looking for an earpiece, not a stereo headset.

I wasn't actually recommending them, just using them as an example. Though I do recommend them for someone who is looking for that type of headset.
I'm sure any newer earpiece will advertise if it works with Google Now. The Moto X actually alerted me when I first paired my headset saying that I can use the button with Moto Voice/ Google Now.

I use Moto Buds and seem to work fine with the Moto Apps.

Ah, thank you. I am finding a few that advertise they are Google Now compatible but it seems to only be the more expensive options of each line, like the Jabra Stealth but none of the cheaper options. Even Motorola's own Motorola Boom doesn't advertise itself as being compatible like the Buds and Hint do...
I had the Motorola boom and it worked great with my Moto x 3013 and 2014. You just push the button on the side of the headset and say your command. I would say it worked well 95% of the time. I lost the earpiece and decided to get a Plantronics edge since it had built in sensors. That way I could just stick the earpiece in my ear to answer the call. However, support for Google now and moto voice is not so good. I push the button on the side of the headset and tell it to call someone specific and most of the time it dials the wrong contact. While the Plantronics edge is nice I would not recommend it if you are looking for Google now and Moto voice support.
However, I would recommend the boom. It works great, sounds good and has long battery life. Also, it can be had for about $50.
I also have the boom. Works great with the 2014 X.

What headphone music controls will work with the Moto X 2014?

Wasn't sure where this would go, please move if inappropriate.
I bought the Sennheiser Momentum In-Ear (Android Version) back in October. They worked great with my Nexus 5 and the Note 4 I owned briefly. The buttons worked to control music playback and volume with no issue. On my Moto X 2014, the controls do not work at all. Play/pause, volume, skip track, etc... are all completely non-functional.
I thought that there were only two standards, iPhone and Android, and that all Android phones should work with the controls designed for any Android phone. Obviously I was wrong. Does anyone have IEMs/headphones that have in-line controls that actually work with the Moto X 2014? Note I am speaking only about wired headsets, not bluetooth.
My LG HBS-800s work perfectly with my Pure edition running Lollipop. I have only tested it with Play Music though.
Thank you for the recommendation. I am really looking for wired options though.
I have the Bose IE2 and the newer version and they both work.
I have noticed that my Samsung headphones dont work with the X either. Volume pause etc. Not sure why but I think it is on motos end why it doesn't work.

We had this conversation over on the Motorola site. Android does not bake in headphone control (except pause/pick-up/hang-up). Some manufacturers have, such as Samsung and I guess LG, and those work with all of the controls. Motorola does not add in the functionality. There are some headphones that work with a software driver (app) that looks for button press, but I've never tried those. I have gone to bluetooth for my phone.
My skullcandy Ink'd work. Play, pause, skip, previous.
Not my preferred pair but when I need the controls...

Hm, that's... odd since the headphones work on Nexus devices. And I would assume anything built in to a Nexus device is baked into Android...

Question The stereo speaker gyp- how to get around?

I'm sure I'm not the only one that upgraded to a new Motorola and discovered after-the-fact that they nixed the stereo speakers I was especially angry because the "Motorola Moto G Stylus" is listed everywhere as having stereo sound, but the 2021 version does not.
After it was delivered, my carrier and Motorola both basically told me thanks for your money, get lost.
The speaker on the 2021 is okay, though I had a Motorola Moto G 2nd Gen for almost a decade and was always proud of the fact that it had stereo, and certainly wanted it with the upgraded phone.
Aside from feeling I was deceived.... the speaker works except in games like Jackpot, where the sound most definitely only comes from one side of the phone, and it just ruins the experience.
I'm intrigued by one thing though- the 2nd earpiece speaker already on the Motorola, even in the 2021. Why can't that be turned on too? Surely that would make a difference, not true stereo like the older Motorola phones... but at least enough so some games don't sound so one-sided.
I believe people are calling the concept "Dolby Atmos Surround Sound", per an app I can't find a way to install......turning on the earpiece ALSO when playing videos and games (see video). But so far I haven't found a step-through for the Motorola Moto G Stylus 2021. Has anyone done this, and can they help?
I've found an app that will play music through the earpiece only, but no mod to turn on and use both speakers when playing media & games.
Use the Earpiece & Speaker Together for Surround Sound on Your Galaxy Note 3
Located at the bottom of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 lies the speaker from which music, notifications, and most other audio comes from, which provides warm and clear sound when needed. When you need the audio to be louder, that's where third-party speakers come in handy, which you could have at...

Solution for the Galaxy Note 3 only.
bummer
Here's how to do it on the OnePlus 6.
I'm surprised nobody knows how to do this for a Motorola Stylus?
But surely.....
Galaxy S8 stereo mod instructions. I guess I just bought the wrong freaking phone :/
