Verizon replaced my phone due to issues with 5.0 - Verizon Galaxy S 5 General

I had so many issues with the upgrade from alarm clock not working, phone getting hot to missed calls due to phone going straight to voicemail that when I called Verizon they decided to replace the phone. I asked for one with the KIt Kat OS and got one today. Phone working like a champ again. Yes, I did the cache clearing and did factory reset twice. My phone just didn't like the Lollipop. Anyway, it's an option for those that are having issues.

Not really only until Google releases a patch for the issues that some people have been experiencing. IN the mean time I can use the phone as I need it. If it works for you then be happy about it. I shouldn't have to use workarounds to use my phone.

Id take the update again. Surely the same issues aren't present in your new phone

I didn't have any glitches with my phone, but I didn't like how Lollipop handled the notifications in Silent mode (no notification light.) So I ODINed back to KitKat. That, and if I understand directly, Lollipop runs in ARTS, meaning no XPOSED when rooted, meaning to Root Cloak (which I need for the Softcard app.)
The official Lollipop is not for me, but I'll keep an eye out if a talented developer can "fix" these issues in a custom ROM.

Not sure and not willing to take the chance. I was missing too many calls before. Yeah, I could have used Odin and gone back but I took the easy way out. Frankly, my days of messing with the phones are over. Did the whole BB and the earlier Android rooting on Evos and other phones but I'm getting tired of doing that. I was a flashaholic for a long time trying different OS's all the time. The S4 was my last playtoy.

I've found my battery life to be dramatically high now that I'm on LL. I may go back to KK as well unless someone knows of a way to correct the high battery use

I've also been experiencing some issues with the Lollipop update.
•high battery drain;
•phone sitting on table w/screen off, picked it up to find it overheating and was failing to cool itself down; had to pull the battery;

I went back to the old phone and I'm trying to make it work. Did more factory resets and it seems like the phone is actually ringing and allowing me to answer calls now and I'm getting notifications again. Maybe the 4 or 5 resets finally took hold. The replacement phone was bugging the hell out of my trying to force me to download 5.0 every time I used it. Going tp play with it a few more days before I return one of the phones to Verizon. Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated.......

A new Xposed that work on ARTS is currently under development. Viper4Android incompatibility is a major reason I went back to KK.

Cool, that will help greatly. Maybe an XPosed module will also help with the notifications too (my issue is the LED in silent mode not working, but I think I've seen others having problems with no alarms or anything in silent mode either. Not sure, never tested that before going back to KK.)

[Q] BeanStalk Q&A

These aren't development questions, so I wanted to keep these out of the development thread. Anyhow, I just installed BeanStalk, and I just have a couple questions, and probably more later, and probably other people will, too, so here's a nice thread for everyone to ask their BeanStalk questions.
Anyhow, question 1: I installed the themed MMS and Contacts package on initial install, but I'm not really diggin' it. I'd like to just go back to stock. So, is it just as easy as flashing the beanstock.zip in CWM just as I installed the beanthemed.zip, or is there more prep involved now that something is already in place? Does anything need to be uninstalled first? Or can I just power down, re-flash the new zip, and be good to go?
Question 2: I like the lock screen widgets, however, I'm not a fan of the camera widget on the lock screen. The problem is, it seems to be quite permanent. Does anyone know how to remove the camera lock screen widget?
Thanks much.
Hi guys. Might be just my phone, but I flashed the 4/10 build and my cpu was pegged at 98-100% and never dropped. Battery stats showed media the culprit. I tried disabling it with Android tweaks, but that didn't work. OS Monitor showed "system" at upper 90's. This was draining my battery faster than I could charge it and it was hot of course. Had to revert to 4/1 build. Is anyone else seeing this? If not, maybe I'll try again. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I did read that a couple of times, but didn't think it was related to my issue. I didn't have any lock screen freezing, just fully pegged CPU. I'll definitely try the new build. Maybe tonight?

I agree it doesn't sound like the same problem he or some others were having, but it is known that there is a problem with that build. May be showing different due to installed apps or any number of reasons.

Constantly Reboots!
Hey Guys!
I am having a constantly reboots on my XT925 nearly every 20 hrs.
I have read that user need to have a logcat in order to have a look at the background process and it is hard to catch as logcat cleared on every reboot so i used catlog application to see my logcat
Whole Logcat : XT925.ZIP
Some Exception Logcat attached as a screenshot but i recommend you check zip file.
Please guys i want as assist from developers in order to determine the cause of this reboot, Please Please Help Me
Hey guys am not a developer and i know nothing about it as i bricked my phone using font installer and after long long search i came up with custom ROMs and all these stuff
Device : XT925
ROM : Beanstalk 8
Android : 4.3
Recovery : OUDHS
Bootloader : Unlocked
I'm having battery problems. I get it charged fully, but it doesn't last no more than 2-3 hours. Also when I restart it suddenly shows a battery life of 12 %, and even then, the 12% goes up to 16% all without a charger... Then goes back down again for which i have to recharge or the phone dies. I tweaked around with the battery settings on android tweaker pro, and it's not helping.

Configure and test the second screen - NO ROOT REQUIRED

First you'll need to install QuickShortcutMaker or other similar apps to enable making custom shortcuts. Then search "signboardtest", run it you'll see a page as shown in attached screenshot.
Here you can perform bunch of testings on the second screen, including posting various kinds of notifications (warning: do not test ProgressBar as notification type ?)
What's more important is you can modify the notification size and how long it sticks. Those are what I've found so far, hopefully we can dig something useful here and find a way to modify it the ways we want.
Great find ! Thanks for sharing!

Did you happen to install anything else? I've searched for this (as I'm having an issue with my 2nd screen at the moment) and I don't have signboardtest as an option, even searched for signboardtest with Root Explorer.

You can change all of that, but it doesn't actually stick.. Tried all them last week. Change the notification to 7 secs and then exit out, then test a real notification(not from sign test app) and count the seconds it stays on second screen, it will still be 3 secs..

So you're telling me that the notification stays legible for a full 7 secs? I just did it again and still goes off after 3. It may say 7 secs, but it's not actually staying on for that long, screen on or off.
Is there a way to push Tasker variables to the second screen?
Awesome!
This is Fantastic. Worked for me! VS 990.
Don't know how many times I went to click on a Text notification and right as i clicked it the notification disappeared and I opened one of my 'Quick Apps' ... sent a text to myself to verify that the notification displayed for 6 seconds...
WINNING!
Thank you!
... Also you can find this shortcut with the 'AnyCut' app.
Tried it with the stock messaging app and it did stay on longer, but haven't found any other notifications that stay on for the full duration.

I ported it from the hong kong version. It is it's own apk with odex and libs. It doesn't come on the Tmo version. It wasn't working for me before, but after a reboot the notification time stays to whatever I set it in now. I thought I was going to have to mod the app for it to work, but it is fine now.

6.0 MM Update - Pros & Cons

Wanted to make a place where we could compare different Pros & Cons that users are experiencing with the 6.0 update finally coming to the V10.
Pros:
• Fingerprint Scanner working very fast with/without case on
• Phone seems a little snappier (could be placebo)
• Android pay seemed to work quicker
• "Silent Mode" option added to 2nd screen when main display is off
Cons:
• Battery seems to be draining slightly quicker than LP
• Currently unable to root
• Some users having FP scan issues
• Not all FP apps are showing the FP security option
• Bloatware added back in
How do you root it?

The internal battery management has been reset and needs to re-calibrate.
The same thing happened on my G4 after updating.
It's tied to 'Doze'.
Give it a week or so ... :good:

Wanted to make a place where we could compare different Pros & Cons that users are experiencing with the 6.0 update finally coming to the V10.
Pros:
• Fingerprint Scanner working very fast with/without case on
• Phone seems a little snappier (could be placebo)
• Android pay seemed to work quicker
Cons:
• Battery seems to be draining slightly quicker than LP

Im not seeing anything visually that really jumps out at me, especially because im still using the stock LG launcher. Im not seeing any big changes to the 2nd screen. Im at work and trying to play around with it at the same time so im still figuring out all of the new functions.

Seems pretty much the same. I hate that in mm, the sdcard icon stays in the notification bar until you swipe it away. Fingerprint is way faster though.

[APP]Google Pixel 2 Portrait mode now works!

This thread is not to be in anyways to flame or downgrade the Essential's dual camera/portrait mode! I am simply just posting so others can have something to tinker with in low lighting! Essential's portrait mode is amazing in great outdoor lighting, but indoor lighting it suffers bad due to compression issue and color algorithm. If you pay attention, indoor pictures including portraits taken when lighting is at soft white, ~2700K to 3200K or so, the pictures turn out very washed out. There are no saturation to the picture at all, or sharpness of details and it just looks bad.
Arnova8G2 has been porting the BSG version of the google cam and it is AMAZING for non-google devices, including ours, however his version somehow does gives a greenish tint to our devices since he original was working on the port only for the OP3/3T. Now, he has combined Charle Chow's Camera NX portrait mode to his app here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75047190&postcount=2270 .
Please report all bugs or any errors, and color issues related to our devices here and tag him so he will know. Thanks again @Arnova8G2
Edit: NEEDS TO BE ON OREO BETA 1 OR 2!!
New version uploaded by Arnova8G2: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1hvonKrb7hUqhqll4Qbglc9epdvanzFKW . Front camera works flawlessly, however we lose all sounds when taking pictures regardless front or back camera. Can anyone upload a logcat here? I can't get matlab to send my logs, kept crashing no matter what I do.
FIX FOR SOUND LOSS! Thank you to radaloel: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75062638&postcount=31
What hdr settings are you using?
On 7.1.1, most of the settings are crashing the app.

Could you upload some shots to compare?
Messing with the settings and it seems that "Config camera HDR+" has to be set to "No HDR+" or the video recorder does not work.

Can you see if you can replicate this bug? Take a picture in hdr+ on, using the 6P setting, normal or portrait mode. You should lose sound immediately. If you still have sounds, use fb messenger, trigger the voice message function and send your friend a voice message. Now you should lose all sounds and requires a restart. I don't know if this is a bug caused by the ported app or in oreo beta.

And I just rebooted and got sound back then tried using voice command in regular messaging app so it looks like it might be something to do with voice recording or the messenger app itself. Not a deal breaker for me cause I don't ever use messenger voice messaging.

Fb messenger has no issue if you do not activate gcam. It works fine by itself. At first I thought it would be my pixel 2 launcher I installed that is crashing all sounds but it's not because it works fine in Nougat.
I have the freezing issue too when I restart. It just goes to a black screen. Did you take a logcat of all that scenario?

I would like to help, but I am not your device and your rom.
So even if you tell me the sound does not go or I have a black screen, it's impossible for me to correct if I do not know where the error is

This has been a known issue on PH-1 for any GCam port I've tried. I had been using a BSG port from back in November, dealing with loss of sound intermittently after using the app. Fear not!
As far as I can tell, the mic does not stop working. You need to turn off all notifications for the Gcam app. Just turn 'em all off. The whole app. Reboot to be safe once you have. Fixed my issues right up. No guarantee using camcorder will not cause sounds to stop though, I haven't tested it. I don't take many videos.
Also, I'm using @Arnova8G2 Front HDR+ version posted here. I'm using these settings with great results (actually the same as I what I posted in the other thread forever ago! Glad it still works.)

I can confirm this DOES NOT work in oreo beta 2. When I was on Nougat in Essential, all the BSG version I used worked when trigger the microphone, ie.. facebook messenger or recording video. It did not work at all in oreo since beta 1. Arnova8g2 version never worked at all either! I used the same configs I used in Nougat as well. Turning off notifications allows sounds but stopped as soon as you trigger microphone. Then when you hit restart, the phone freeze and you have to do a hard restart by holding the power button down.
Even on that version when I use HDR+ and switch to video it causes the problem. I turned off HDR+ and tried again and the video still causes the sound issues so this is not a stable app just yet for our device imho hopefully the dev can iron the problems out for us to enjoy this great mod. I really like the selfie portrait was pretty sweet

I honestly think this is due to nougat being beta because even bsg version I used that works in Nougat does not work in the beta oreo at all.

There's an update for TMO phones

It added a "Horizon light", but still no AOD.

Wait...I only have the 8 with the damn sloped side screens..
So there's no AOD with the tmobile 8t.....yet?! Is ONEPLUS stuck in 2009 still?!
Horizon light has never worked from day one on any of their phones! Yes, you may get it to flash a notification for an email, or some other missed communication...but it only flashes ONE TIME (unless they've finally made it adjustable???) and unless you're looking directly at your screen when it flashes then you will miss it, so it is basically useless. I mean if your looking at your screen then chances are you're doing so in an effort to pick it up to turn on the screen for some reason anyway. SMH
