Do not update! Use sunshine to unlock then upgrade all you want with out worrying about the bl becoming locked again!

[Q]Might buy this instead.

I might be buying this instead of the M. But first, some questions.
1. When I first get it, will I be able to unlock and root it straight out of the box, with or without OTA update?
2. How good is the dev support for this phone?
I'll update this when I think of more.
Yes you can unlock the bootloader and root and and flash a recovery. And about Dev support well we just got official CM10.1 and PAC and alot of other roms.

Um, no, you can't unlock the bootloader anymore on the latest OTA. You can still get root by downgrading to a previous firmware and using Voodoo to protect root before upgrading again, but you will never be able to unlock the bootloader since the trusted zone partition can't be downgraded.

So don't OTA when I first get it?
I mean, I'm fine with a non-unlockable bootloader. But if I have the choice to unlock it when it comes in, I won't be OTA-ing it. Speaking of which, whenever you activate the phone, doesn't it OTA?
Also, whenever I receive this what version will it be running on? And what version did they patch the bootloader method you guys were using? I'm not gonna be OTAing. And if activating the phone means OTAing, I'll unlock it prior to activation.
What you'll more than likely get from Verizon is a phone running the 4.1.2 firmware, build number starts with 9.16. This will be rootable, but you will not be able to unlock the bootloader. You will be asked to update with an OTA to firmware build number which starts with 9.18. You won't be able to root 9.18, but if you root on 9.16 first, use VooDoo OTA rootkeeper and then update, you should still be rooted on 9.18

So anything before 9.16 and I should be good to go? Hopefully they don't ship it out with 9.16+
Actually, would it be possible to downgrade to below 9.16 whenever I get it?

You can't unlock that system version. You'll need to update to KK, root, and unlock.

It's not a ROM you flash. Your best bet is to get the KK FXZ and flash it using either House of Moto or use RSDLite to flash it. It's not a ROM.
Flashing an FXZ either via fastboot (House of Moto) or RSDLite will work since you are upgrading to a higher version, so the encryption keys will work and update your trusted zone, etc.
Once you are updated to KK, then you will be able to root via towelroot, install Motopocalypse and then unlock your bootloader.
Go here for instructions -> http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/46155-rootunlock-442-182183-razr-hdm-only/

Go here first -> http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/45494-fxz-442-1834610/
The instructions are simple. Download the three things listed and then run them in the order SamuriHL tells you to.
Once you have done those steps, you are upgraded to stock KK.
Next, you need to go root (via Towelroot) and then install Motopocalypse and run it and then you'll be unlocked and rooted.
Again, the steps to root and unlock are listed here -> http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/46155-rootunlock-442-182183-razr-hdm-only/
Just follow what is listed. He does state if you take the 183.46.14 OTA, you will not be able to root nor unlock. But, don't worry. That hasn't been released to the general public yet (at least, not officially by Motorola and Verizon), so the upgrade to KK you did in the previous link is to 183.46.10, which is what you want.
Just download Towel Root and Unlock (HOLY SNIKES!) which are linked the post and install Towel Root on your phone first. Then, run it to root your phone. Once you are done rooting, then install and run Unlock (HOLY SNIKES!) to unlock your phone.
That's it.

[Q] Unlock, root, and install roms on Moto G (1st gen) xt1028?

Hi, I was just wondering if this was possible, aside from that temporary root method.
When I do that thing for retrieving an unlock code on the motorola site, it says I'm not eligible to unlock my phone, but there has to be another way, right?
I was just wondering, if there was anybody who had this phone, and who already had theirs unlocked, thanks
Not yet
Hi! I've just own this device used from verizon with kitkat 4.4.4. And all metods not working for me: I can't unlock bootloader using motorola site, even for now can't find how get temproot (towelrool and moto PIE - nothing happens), and they says that this methods fails on 4.4.4 firmware((. SunShine also not working - it reqires temp root & maybe also didn't work on 4.4.4). So will be waiting... If something happens (also if temproot is possible) - please let me know!!!
P.S. But maybe on locked bootloader & official firmware we get OTA of LoliPop 5.0 soon!!

[Q] Rooting & Getting Lollipop update

Hi!
Gladly we got root for our awesome Z3.
My question is:
when rooting the device, will I be able to get OTA updates? Will I even be able to get the Lollipop update then? (I know I can flash a tft everytime).
And when so, will root remain or will I have to wait until somewhone finds an exploit to root the update or lollipop again?
thanks & have a nice day everyone
Even if possible, I'm pretty sure that you would lose root.
The best way to update a rooted device is by using PRFCreator tool in order to create a pre-rooted firmware. You don't even need to unlock your bootloader since it requires only a recovery to flash that package.
Rooting will not stop receiving OTA updates. But notice that unlocking the bootloader will do it.

Droid Ultra Maxx 4.4.4 SU 6-7 Unlock Possibilities

So I dropped my original Droid Maxx in water and had to get a new one. Unfortunately, the new device came with a new update that I have since downgraded to 4.4.4 SU 6.7 and rooted it.
My goal is to get back to an unlocked boot loader via the Sunshine app. but I need to downgrade first.
Is there any current way to do this?
I have tried to downgrade the 4.4.4 SU6-7 to 4.2.2 and 4.4.4 SU4-21 on RSD Lite with multiple failures on "flash partition "gpt.bin"
Does anyone know of a way to downgrade or did I lose a lot more than just my phone in the water?
Thanks in advance...

Unfortunately, there is no possible way that you can unlock the bootloader, if you are once upgraded to version 4.4.4 SU 6-7.... unless your device is a developer edition.

Atleast nobody has found a vulnerability and written and exploit yet. I'm sure there is a targetable vulnerability, rather someone can find it and figure out how to exploit it to achieve unlock is entirely another matter.
UGGGHHHH! Math it...I'm going out for a Droid Turbo. I found a thread with a confirmed bootloader unlock and root. Thanks for the info gents.
