So I dropped my original Droid Maxx in water and had to get a new one. Unfortunately, the new device came with a new update that I have since downgraded to 4.4.4 SU 6.7 and rooted it.
My goal is to get back to an unlocked boot loader via the Sunshine app. but I need to downgrade first.
Is there any current way to do this?
I have tried to downgrade the 4.4.4 SU6-7 to 4.2.2 and 4.4.4 SU4-21 on RSD Lite with multiple failures on "flash partition "gpt.bin"
Does anyone know of a way to downgrade or did I lose a lot more than just my phone in the water?
Thanks in advance...

Unfortunately, there is no possible way that you can unlock the bootloader, if you are once upgraded to version 4.4.4 SU 6-7.... unless your device is a developer edition.

Atleast nobody has found a vulnerability and written and exploit yet. I'm sure there is a targetable vulnerability, rather someone can find it and figure out how to exploit it to achieve unlock is entirely another matter.
UGGGHHHH! Math it...I'm going out for a Droid Turbo. I found a thread with a confirmed bootloader unlock and root. Thanks for the info gents.

what information do we have on rooting after the 4.4.2 ota update? Also is there any information on unlocking the bootloader? I'm trying to see what other people have tried before I keep going at the same things that have failed. Also is there any information on changing the imei/flashing this? My end goal is cyanogenmod on Virgin Mobile. I've done this with other phones and I just got my hands on this one but there doesn't seem to be as much into on this as others.

****. So I'm holding an unrootable piece of crap? What information do we have on methods of root attempted and such. Maybe I can contribute to this I've got nothing but time.
Edit: your thread unlocks gsm support. VM would probably need me to reprovision everything and change my IMei to match a donor phone.
I've been attempting various root methods for 4.4.2 and for the RAZR in general. I've had no luck. Is there a collective of people working on this cause I'd love to contribute however I can.

Just as an FYI, that is called "lambda" which is a greek symbol.
Also, this works on 183.46.10 (the current KK ota that came out a few months back), but it does NOT work with the latest soak test (183.46.14), so you need to stay on 183.46.10, root with towelroot and then unlock your bootloader. If you do not do this AND if you take the soak test, you will be unable to root as a root exploit for 183.46.14 does not exist.
I don't want to say it won't ever be rooted, but as more and more exploits are patched up, it becomes harder and harder to root this phone, so your best bet is to root and unlock the bootloader on 183.46.10. Don't take the chance on whether a root exploit will be found or not. You'll save yourself, and the rest of us, a lot of headaches.
If you have already applied the 183.46.14 before rooting and unlocking your bootloader, you are SOL. There is NO way to go back to the previous version and root and unlock, so please do NOT ask how to revert back from the current soak test (183.46.14) and root and unlock your bootloader because you can't. You just can't, so don't ask.
I repeated what I just said because people always ask "well, if you flash back to 183.46.10". The problem is, the exploit that allowed unlocking of the bootloader is in a protected area that even unlocked bootloaders cannot write to without the proper encrytion keys. Once that area has been patched via the latest soak test, you have no way to write over it again because you would need the proper encryption key inside the image to flash in order for it to work. Unless Motorola becomes nice and gives you the key, it won't work. And the previous OTA's key is now invalid, so again, flashing the previous FXZ (183.46.10) will not work. It will just skip writing the protect area.
Clear as mud? Hopefully.
thats lambda....but you knew that

Yes.
But, here's something even better. With the new Towelroot for locked bootloaders on KK, once rooted, you can then use Motopocalypse and unlock your bootloader.
Nice going, Motorola! With the KK update, someone must have pulled in the old code to allow the exploit to unlock the bootloader (that was patched as of 9.18) to work. Way too funny, but I'm sure many people out there are bowing to Motorola for this, even though I'm sure it wasn't supposed to happen like this! :silly:
So, those of you with locked bootloaders, go root RIGHT NOW and UNLOCK those bootloaders. You're warranty was voided as soon as you rooted, so what harm is there in unlocking it as well? That means when the next OTA comes out (not sure when, but it will probably be soon since I got a new email for a new soak test), it means root will definitely be broken for those with locked bootloaders. With an unlocked bootloader, you'll be able to sideload SU onto your phones when the new OTA comes out, so better to be safe than sorry.
Good to know...

Well, technically there is no going back.....you can use SamuriHL's HouseOfMoto...with the JB FXZ files to generate the scripts, and then use the Universal script to flash....this will flash everything EXCEPT the tz and gpt partitions, at that point you should be able to flash a JB ROM.
You cannot downgrade tz and gpt so dont waste your time trying...

Advantages:
Latest security changes that include security fixes in 4.4.4 revision.
Supposedly, fixes blue-tooth issues.
Some say better battery life.
Disadvantages:
Security fixes which means Towelroot exploit is patched.
Security fixes - in original KK OTA for this phone, you could unlock the bootloader. If you take the latest update and haven't unlocked your bootloader, you will be SOL for unlocking the bootloader AND rooting the phone.
Some say battery life is worse.
Some say blue-tooth isn't fixed.
I'm trying to help my buddy root his Razr Maxx HD, but he already took the 182.46.15 update, which breaks Towelroot. Is there a way to flash back to 182.46.10 so he can use Towelroot & unlock the bootloader?

No. Once he took the 183.46.15 update, the trusted partitions that would have allowed you to unlock the bootloader were overwritten and there is NO way, repeat, NO way to revert back to the previous version. It won't allow writing to those trusted zones with older versions. There is NO way to fool it due to checksums, so don't try or ask. It's been asked thousands of times all with the same answer.

No. As I said, there is NO way to unlock it, legally or illegally.
The unlock tool on Moto's site is for a select set of phones. The XT926 is not one of them.
Face it. There is NO way to unlock the bootloader now that it's on 183.46.15. That option is gone. I don't know how much more I can stress that fact.

No, you cannot unlock .15 yet.
Thos method only works for unlocked bootloader. This was made up for phones already unlocked which have lost root access after an firmware upgrade.

Do not update! Use sunshine to unlock then upgrade all you want with out worrying about the bl becoming locked again!
Sent From My Droid Ultra
I purchased the phone brand new thinking it would come with the very first firmware so I wouldn't run into this issue.
Well. I'm scratching my head debating whether or not to send it back.
I have successfully obtained ROOT using Towel-Root. But I'd really like to unlock my boot-loader!!!!
I have Googled everything I could think of, watched NUMEROUS videos. But no one else is running 9.30.1.
I have read that if I take the OTA update to 184.x.x then I would be screwed with ROOT and boot-loader.
Am I missing something? Or is it not possible to unlock boot-loader on 9.30.1?
If it's not possible, is it possible to use fastboot to flash Cyanogenmod to my XT926 without custom recovery since I have obtained ROOT?
This really sucks. I just upgraded from an XT907 running 184.46.15 and was upset because I could not gain root.
Can I update to newer android OS and still obtain root on my XT926?
I've done it!
Download the 183.46.10 update.
Use RSDLite 6.1.4 to flash the update.
Towelroot to root.
Motopocalypse to unlock bootloader.
PROFIT.
