Need some help.
I am usually pretty good with working with firmware and software issues.
I have a friends OPO which they had issues with and somehow got it into a state where the only thing it seems I can possible do is get it into the stock Cyanogen Recovery.
I tried going into fastboot (Vol Up. + Power) but this yields no result it always ends up booting into cyanogen recovery.
As far as I know (with this friend not being very technical) i doubt it had an unlocked bootloader, or even USB debugging on prior to the crash.
The only way I can get the PC to recognize the phone in ADB mode is to enter the Apply update section and hit apply from ADB which puts me into ADB for sideloading.
If I could get it into Fastboot I would be able to move forward.
When it boots, I see a quick flash of some sort of error/failure screen but it is so quick I cannot identify the image.
Try this:

I actually came across that thread while waiting for a reply to my own. In the state that it is in the msm tool is the only thing that can help me?
Well without fastboot you're going to find it very difficult to get anything done. CM recovery isn't really of any help because it can't actually flash anything that you need it to flash. I find it very odd that you can't get to fastboot. Have you tried adb commands while in recovery?
Transmitted via Bacon
I tried the button configurations to get into fastboot to no avail, it just boots into cyanogen recovery. As for adb while connected, only way I can use it is by going into the section to sideload an update. Within there I can adb, but most commands give me "error: closed".
Adb reboot bootloader doesn't work?

Hi,
I tried to install a ROM but it got stuck on the white screen with the HTC logo. I tried to do factory reset but it gets stuck again. I don't have clockwork recovery, and I rooted my phone using adb and ace recovery, which is not on my phone. I only temporarily used it to flash my rom, stupid I know. :-/ When I connect my phone to the PC it is not being recognized. I tried putting the PD98IMG.zip file on my sd card but it just says that it the image is incorrect. Is there anything I can do? Is this fixable?

I just went through some similar stuff. What type of computer are you using? PC/Mac? Are you using the original cable? What troubleshooting steps for connectivity have you done? Different cable? USB port?
Can you access the bootloader screen when you pull the battery and reboot while holding the volume button down and holding the power button? By accident, I found that the phone and PC will communicate with each other when "Fastboot" is selected on the bootloader screen (you should hear a connection chime and it should change to "Fastboot USB") except I could only get fastboot commands to work. The good news is that should be enough to flash a boot or whatever else you need to get back in business.

Hi, Thanks for the reply.I am using windows 7. I downloaded the drivers for HTC, and I am using a data cable and the USB port in the back of my computer, nearest the mother board. I do see "Fastboot USB" on the phone but when i type in the command prompt "adb devices" I get nothing.

That's great you're getting the fastboot usb message! As long as you're not using a hub or some other usb extender, any functioning usb port on the pc will do. Again, I learned this by accident (ie the hard way) and found that in this mode, only fastboot commands will work, not adb. (on a side note, and others should correct me here, adb and fastboot work together when the phone is rebooted normally or in recovery but not in the bootloader screen)
Great test for connection: fastboot devices (if you get anything else except a serial # with fastboot after it, then close the cmd window, unplug, and pull battery/reboot to bootloader), fastboot reboot-bootloader. Once it reboots back into the bootloader screen, make sure you press the power button while fastboot is selected and you should again hear the chime and see fastboot usb come up. This is your phone saying it's ready to accept your fastboot commands.
Do let us know how it works.

As far as I know, fastboot only works when your phone is in fastboot mode. ADB works in recovery or system.

Flash a rooted stock ROM from recovery. Whether you have root is in your system partition. Whether your bootloader is unlocked is in your bootloader. Whether you have a custom recovery is in your recovery partition. Three separate things.
As for your post in your other thread, read my signature.

I'm guessing that you're trying to flash a PD98IMG.zip or a RUU. You need an actual stock rooted ROM, probably from here on the forum. Or just flash Android Revolution HD, an optimized rooted stock ROM, also from here on the forum in the development section. For more specific steps read the Ace Think Tank linked in my signature.

Dear friends,
I have this problem: I got a brand new TCL S720 and the Google Play did not work, being a known rom issue. So, before doing anything, I've managed to make a backup of it's original rom with MTK Droid tools whichI supose it did it well. Then I've tried to install a CWM recovery to try a custom rom for it. The CWM recovery seemed to install succesfully but I didn't manage to install the new rom. If I remember well, it stucked on boot logo. Then tried to revert at it's original stock recovery, managed to have the phone back as it was in initial state, but doing more tries, It remained stucked on boot logo. The problem is that my computer doesn't recognise it anymore, when I connect it to USB it tries to install MTP usb driver but even before the driver was installed well, now it refuse to install, like the driver is not good or the proper driver doesn't exist. So the only thing I can do is to boot on stock recovery but even I tried to copy the original rom update.zip on external SD and to flash the phone using install update from sd card in recovery mode, It doesn't find the external sd card. So I'm stuck here, the computer doesn't detect the phone to try flashing it with SP flash tool or MTK Droid tool, and I also can't flash it from sd card. Have you any idea how to make it work again?
Thanks in advance.
Guys and gals, men and gentle-ladies, can anyone help me find a solution?

Not able to get to fastboot (vol+ and power). phone only boots into stock recovery. adb sideload works. installed stock cm11s via that the installation was successful but rebooting the phone takes me back to Stock Recovery (CyanogenMod Simple Recovery). This is a defect and OnePlus should be replacing my phone but, they are being very slow to respond, so I'm looking here for alternative solutions. It's a beautiful phone, but it just doesn't work

Hmm. Not getting into fastboot is weird indeed..
Did you try another recovery? Did you try to adb reboot into booloader (fastboot)? Maybe the volume up button is not working..
Actually it looks like I may be in fastboot, but fastboot devices doesn't show anything. I tried the ColorOS install method in this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/help/wrong-kernel-black-screen-fastboot-adb-t2835696 and looks like I've installed ColorOS, but instead of my previous problem, now I am stuck with a ColorOS Recovery Bootloop

Hello all
I have a baaaaad situation going on!
I have been trying to delete me superuser in twrp, but something terrible happened....
1) When i boot my 1+ it just stays black.
2) When i boot into fastboot it just shows a linux penguin logo and noting else.
3) When i go to twrp i can do multiple things like adb sideload, and i can push a rom to my phone.
-> but everytime i do this and try to install it, it just fails and says i have no OS installed when i want to reboot.
I've contacted support from 1+ but nothing yet so far...
Anyone here who can help me? (i'm open for teamviewer and even want to pay the person who can fix my Oneplus)
Hoping one of you can help me!
Greetz
Michel
(I have a picture of the logo but i can't post i due to beiing a new member here )
You can't communicate with your phone through fastboot and ADB? Oh ****...
How did you manage to replace the bootloader with a Linux penguin? When you go into fast boot and type does fast boot devices does the pc recognize the phone?

The thing is, i was rooting my device and after i've done that my rootchecker told me the root was incomplete...
So smart as i was i started a complete unroot, to do it all over again...
In this process my device got stuck... so i booted in TWRP recovery to uninstall everything from the root over there..
Here i managed to delete my complete OS.... 8-|
After reading every tutorial and guide i figured out that on my phone my developper otions were NOT enabled...
So i contacted the oneplus support, who even remotely connected to my computer from Beijing to Belgium.. but never the less my problem was not solved and i was still stuck on the f*cking Linux logo...
So i started searching for a flashable ROM (in this case i found Pacman Nightly Signed) to flash on my phone through command on Windows.
After many hours and even more attempts i managed to go in adb en flash it by the sideload way.
So not through "adb push romname.zip /sdcard...." but by "adb sideload romname.zip /sdcard...."
And the pacman rom started to install and booted my phone to language selection...
PS: i cried :cyclops:
Glad to hear that you fixed your phone. I wouldn't contact oneplus support for things like this, chances are you'll get a reply back from xda faster as well as searching on your own to resolve the issue.

More info required. What recovery do you have installed? Exactly what error are you getting when flashing the ROMs? You probably just need to flash the right firmware first.

I'm using TWRP
When I did manage to push some files to the device and tried to install them it failed instantly. I tried Cyan Hacker V2 the new Oxygen os and cm-11 and one of my backups, but all of them had the same issue. I can only vaguely remember the command which I think said 'partitions updating' then under the completed tab at the top of the screen in Red text it said failed.
This isn't my main concern anymore the device has died and won't charge so I can't get it to boot into fast boot or Recovery all its done when connected to the charger is light up with a black screen, vibrate then turn off, it repetats that a couple of times then it goes off again and no life at all, if I leave it of the charger for bit and try plugging it in again I get the same flashing black screen but again no charge.

Yep, it's almost definitely a case of not having flashed the right firmware after coming from Oxygen. Leave it plugged in for eight hours, don't touch it in that time, then try to power it on again.

If you want to flash a Lollipop ROM the best way is to first perform a full wipe (system, data, cache, dalvik cache) in TWRP, then flash this firmware:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B98G0KTJwnBFdVgxZ0x5RzNJSE0/edit?usp=docslist_api
Then flash this modem:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B98G0KTJwnBFU0Z1TUIyVE50WW8/edit?usp=docslist_api
Then go to the reboot menu and reboot back to recovery. Then flash whatever Lollipop ROM you want to use, and reboot your phone. If you still have no success after doing that then you'll need to try to flash the stock images with fastboot, I have a download and instructions in section 8 of my guide thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2839471
If that gets your phone booting then you can go ahead and try the above steps again to flash a Lollipop ROM.
No, this wouldn't be covered by warranty. Unlocking the bootloader and rooting this device doesn't void the warranty but they've stated that if you brick the phone while flashing (or the like) then it isn't covered. This is a case of user error, you didn't ensure that you had the correct firmware before flashing.

okay
thank you for all your help hopefully I'll be posting later with some good news
So I have gained access to the device in both TRWP and fastboot mode but I have encountered more problems,
Theirs is no OS, but their is a recovery the logical thing here would be boot it in fast boot and push files to the device and install those using the recovery easy right!!
no the boot loader is locked and so I can't flash anything I've downloaded about 2 or 3 tools kits to get it unlocked, when I use them the device reboots but wont load into fastboot, I can get it to with some tampering it doesn't have an exact method
any ideas guys?

Why did you lock your bootloader? You need to go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/development/mod-reset-unlock-tamper-bit-t2820912
Flash that through TWRP and your bootloader will be unlocked again.
PS. You can't push files to the device in fastboot mode, only adb can push files and adb doesn't work in fastboot mode. Once you've unlocked your bootloader again you'll need to flash the stock images with fastboot. Download and instructions are in section 8 of my guide thread:

I have similar issues at the moment. I tried to flash over Oxygen OS and it kept failing. Upon factory wiping the current OS to put CM 12 Nightly, I accidentally deleted all of my data. Now 54,xxx MB is on my phone, meaning it wiped all internal memory, the system is only 20MB and data is 6MB. I tried to plug in my phone to fast boot mode, and my computer wouldn't read it. I did all I could to maybe get it to read, and not a single thing popped up. I do not believe my bootloader is locked, but there could be a possibility that it could. Any suggestions to get an OS pushed over through ADB or Fastboot??

Now 54,xxx MB is on my phone, meaning it wiped all internal memory, the system is only 20MB and data is 6MB. I tried to plug in my phone to fast boot mode, and my computer wouldn't read it. I did all I could to maybe get it to read, and not a single thing popped up. I do not believe my bootloader is locked, but there could be a possibility that it could. Any suggestions to get an OS pushed over through ADB or Fastboot??

It looks like you did the same thing that I did.
Its a pretty easy fix your going to be able to avoid all of the unlocking boot loader issues I had.
To begin with when your try an turn the device on is the screen flashing black?
I am trying to flash the 5.0 official image to my N5 and it is now stuck on "waiting for device". See attached image.
I was able to see my device in adb, i booted to fastboot mode and adb fastboot listed my device. It sent/wrote the bootloader to the phone, but now is just waiting.
Can i safely kill the flash process and start again? I am a little worried that it is just stuck.

That's right ya'll wanna flash but don't wanna read :silly:
Thanks guys. Much appreciated.
So I got somebody to help me out with the $25 on Sunshine, S-off, unlocked, rooted. I go to Google Play and get TWRP and go to "TWRP install" select my phone type, the newest build and I install it, says it installed fine and asked to boot into recovery mode which just takes me to a triangle and an exclamation point. I vol -/+ power to restart and it sticks me on the "HTC" boot up screen, I vol + and power with a quick transition to vol - to try and do a factory reset and start over again and it won't even allow me to do that. Now what? Did I brick it? Does anybody have a link that'll get me out of this mess and get a custom rom flashed on here?
Thank you!
I'm still at it trying to get an older version of TWRP on it via ADB which I installed on my Mac but I can't get the Mac to recognize the M8 so I am messing something up along the way. Does anybody know how to get this done?
I always do my best to document my progress so that it's solved for the next person that has an issue. I'm still stuck and have tried installing the SDK tools on both Mac and Windows and I can't get ADB to pick up the device in fastboot mode on either. I'm typing this on a Linux machine, I guess I could try it from here for fun but I'm guessing there's some other issue going on. I'm just trying to figure out how to get TWRP flashed on at this point so I can get out of my soft brick issue.

While phone is in fastboot, you need to use fastboot commands, adb won't work. Connect phone to pc while in fastboot mode then try typing in "fastboot devices" and hit enter. If it shows you device S/N then you are good to go. To flash recovery you normally use "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" assuming you renamed the twrp file to recovery.img
If you cant get that to work, you might try looking for the RUU file for your device to reset your device back to completely stock firmware and start over.
Hope this helps!

That was a HUGE help actually and this is way easier on my Linux box. It's communicating in fastboot but won't boot into TWRP when I go to recovery yet. I'm trying to fastboot a custom rom to it now to see if that works but am having some issues thus far but will keep at it.
****Edit So I think it was the version of TWRP I was using that was the issue this entire time. I tried 2.8.7 which caused the issues, then to flash 2.8.3 and 2.7.0.1 to try and get something to recover from with no luck and finially I used fastboot on Linux to get 2.8.0.0 on it and it's going into recovery find from that.
****Edit 2.0 I have TWRP working but can't wipe or install and keep getting an error "twrp unable to mount /system" so I need to address that somehow, how sure what the issue is but I'm worn out on it so any help or ROM suggestions to use from here would be amazing!
****Edit 3.0 After retrying with 2.8.7 and it not working at all I tried with 2.8.0.1 and had the same issue so I went up to 2.8.0.2 and that fixed it now I just need to find the right rom to download and flash.
****Edit 4.0 Okay I am all set and figured out the issues and have SlimKat running on it now. Thanks for that little nudge in the right direction!
