Oneplus has no OS installed. - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all
I have a baaaaad situation going on!
I have been trying to delete me superuser in twrp, but something terrible happened....
1) When i boot my 1+ it just stays black.
2) When i boot into fastboot it just shows a linux penguin logo and noting else.
3) When i go to twrp i can do multiple things like adb sideload, and i can push a rom to my phone.
-> but everytime i do this and try to install it, it just fails and says i have no OS installed when i want to reboot.
I've contacted support from 1+ but nothing yet so far...
Anyone here who can help me? (i'm open for teamviewer and even want to pay the person who can fix my Oneplus)
Hoping one of you can help me!
Greetz
Michel
(I have a picture of the logo but i can't post i due to beiing a new member here )

You can't communicate with your phone through fastboot and ADB? Oh ****...

How did you manage to replace the bootloader with a Linux penguin? When you go into fast boot and type does fast boot devices does the pc recognize the phone?

The thing is, i was rooting my device and after i've done that my rootchecker told me the root was incomplete...
So smart as i was i started a complete unroot, to do it all over again...
In this process my device got stuck... so i booted in TWRP recovery to uninstall everything from the root over there..
Here i managed to delete my complete OS.... 8-|
After reading every tutorial and guide i figured out that on my phone my developper otions were NOT enabled...
So i contacted the oneplus support, who even remotely connected to my computer from Beijing to Belgium.. but never the less my problem was not solved and i was still stuck on the f*cking Linux logo...
So i started searching for a flashable ROM (in this case i found Pacman Nightly Signed) to flash on my phone through command on Windows.
After many hours and even more attempts i managed to go in adb en flash it by the sideload way.
So not through "adb push romname.zip /sdcard...." but by "adb sideload romname.zip /sdcard...."
And the pacman rom started to install and booted my phone to language selection...
PS: i cried :cyclops:

Glad to hear that you fixed your phone. I wouldn't contact oneplus support for things like this, chances are you'll get a reply back from xda faster as well as searching on your own to resolve the issue.

Fast boot flash a TWRP image. Flash CM12 nightly via OTG. You will be good from there.

More info required. What recovery do you have installed? Exactly what error are you getting when flashing the ROMs? You probably just need to flash the right firmware first.

I'm using TWRP
When I did manage to push some files to the device and tried to install them it failed instantly. I tried Cyan Hacker V2 the new Oxygen os and cm-11 and one of my backups, but all of them had the same issue. I can only vaguely remember the command which I think said 'partitions updating' then under the completed tab at the top of the screen in Red text it said failed.
This isn't my main concern anymore the device has died and won't charge so I can't get it to boot into fast boot or Recovery all its done when connected to the charger is light up with a black screen, vibrate then turn off, it repetats that a couple of times then it goes off again and no life at all, if I leave it of the charger for bit and try plugging it in again I get the same flashing black screen but again no charge.

Yep, it's almost definitely a case of not having flashed the right firmware after coming from Oxygen. Leave it plugged in for eight hours, don't touch it in that time, then try to power it on again.

Okay I'll leave it through the day. After I get it to charge how will I get an OS onto it and how will I ensure that its got the right firmware? And if it all goes caput is this a valid reason for a renewed device from oneplus?

If you want to flash a Lollipop ROM the best way is to first perform a full wipe (system, data, cache, dalvik cache) in TWRP, then flash this firmware:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B98G0KTJwnBFdVgxZ0x5RzNJSE0/edit?usp=docslist_api
Then flash this modem:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B98G0KTJwnBFU0Z1TUIyVE50WW8/edit?usp=docslist_api
Then go to the reboot menu and reboot back to recovery. Then flash whatever Lollipop ROM you want to use, and reboot your phone. If you still have no success after doing that then you'll need to try to flash the stock images with fastboot, I have a download and instructions in section 8 of my guide thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2839471
If that gets your phone booting then you can go ahead and try the above steps again to flash a Lollipop ROM.
No, this wouldn't be covered by warranty. Unlocking the bootloader and rooting this device doesn't void the warranty but they've stated that if you brick the phone while flashing (or the like) then it isn't covered. This is a case of user error, you didn't ensure that you had the correct firmware before flashing.

okay
thank you for all your help hopefully I'll be posting later with some good news

So I have gained access to the device in both TRWP and fastboot mode but I have encountered more problems,
Theirs is no OS, but their is a recovery the logical thing here would be boot it in fast boot and push files to the device and install those using the recovery easy right!!
no the boot loader is locked and so I can't flash anything I've downloaded about 2 or 3 tools kits to get it unlocked, when I use them the device reboots but wont load into fastboot, I can get it to with some tampering it doesn't have an exact method
any ideas guys?

Why did you lock your bootloader? You need to go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/development/mod-reset-unlock-tamper-bit-t2820912
Flash that through TWRP and your bootloader will be unlocked again.
PS. You can't push files to the device in fastboot mode, only adb can push files and adb doesn't work in fastboot mode. Once you've unlocked your bootloader again you'll need to flash the stock images with fastboot. Download and instructions are in section 8 of my guide thread:

I have similar issues at the moment. I tried to flash over Oxygen OS and it kept failing. Upon factory wiping the current OS to put CM 12 Nightly, I accidentally deleted all of my data. Now 54,xxx MB is on my phone, meaning it wiped all internal memory, the system is only 20MB and data is 6MB. I tried to plug in my phone to fast boot mode, and my computer wouldn't read it. I did all I could to maybe get it to read, and not a single thing popped up. I do not believe my bootloader is locked, but there could be a possibility that it could. Any suggestions to get an OS pushed over through ADB or Fastboot??

Is fastboot working? Unlock bootloader and push custom recovery there. Go to adb sideload and that should work eventually. I had an issue with HTC One M7 - someone deleted sytem, and cyanogenmod installer helped, because it pushed CWM recovery, maybe try that one as well?

Don't give up.... I was in the same position like you for a couple days....and now is fix by my self..... If you unlock your bootloader try to lock back (fastboot oem lock) now try to flash via fastboot Philz Recovery ( try until is rebooting himself into recovery) .... After that put on a memory stick the new system .... You may need to mount the USB flash drive ..... That's exactly what I have done....Good Luck ...
It is damn near IMPOSSIBLE to actualy, truly "brick" these devices. There are way too many safeguards in place.
Be careful before announcing that you are "bricked". Bootlooping (which is what your device was doing) is not "bricked". As long as you have fastboot, you can always reflash recovery, and then use recovery to reflash your custom ROM (or you can bypass all of that and reflash the factory images from fastboot).
Don't panic, you know more than you think you know. Just don't get freaked out, and read. You'll be fine.

I tried that. My computer is no longer recognizing the device at all. I thought I was making progress through the first part of the day, but for some reason, usb recognition seems to fluctuate.
I'm normally pretty alright working with this type of thing, but this phone has me completely baffled.

I supposed I should have been more clear. Fastboot will work, but all of the adb commands fail as the "device not found". I have tried restarting everything multiple times, updated all of the drivers, deleted the drivers, re-installed them, and while it makes the chime noise when I plug the phone in, all I can do is look at it in device manager. I'm running windows 8.1 and twrp 2.8.5.0, by the way.

If your phone is S-ON, flash stock recovery first and relock the bootloader before running the RUU

Can't boot into recovery. any idea if this can be fixed?

I tried to root my Opo, but it started to go wrong after i flashed it. It went to reboot into TWRP, but all that happened was it crashed. the 1+ logo comes on and then the screen goes blank. This Happens all the time when I try a "fastboot oem unlock", factory reset, or a boot recovery.. the fastboot does work, but the device is also locked and i can't do a recovery due to this. I tried to do the root tutorial on youtube by C4ETech.. help please!
@nickizm, when you boot to fastboot and enter the command "fastboot devices", can you see your device listed on the screen?
Thanks for the reply.. The fastboot work fines apart from when I try to unlock the devices and it reboots into recovery, it crashes and doesn't unlock.. the rest of the phone works fine apart from the recovery... my bootloader is also locked and I can't unlock it due to crashing
(bootloader) Device tampered: true
(bootloader) Device unlocked: false
(bootloader) Charger screem enabled: false
I can't be certain but I'm pretty sure I read a similar issue to this a few days ago that was caused by not having the latest fastboot software, the user resolved it by downloading the latest android sdk and trying again.
Worth a shot.
Hope it helps.

Have you tried using a toolkit to do the unlock for you? People usually advise against using toolkits to do it for you as it prevents you gaining the experience of doing it yourself, but since it's not working when doing it yourself I don't see any harm in trying a toolkit.

I think you might be out of luck, unless someone here more knowledgeable than I can help.
If you have a recovery image (not zip) you can try running the following command (make sure the img file is in the same directory as your adb/fastboot files and rename it "recovery");
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
What this allows you to do is boot into the TWRP recovery without having it installed on your phone, but I think I read somewhere that this command no longer works.
EDIT: If the above command will let you boot into TWRP, you'll want to read the guide here and flash the script.

One last effort, after a bit of reading I've seen a few people with your issue have resolved it by flashing ColorOS (Chinese Stock ROM) and then going back to a custom rom once everything is fixed.
You can find a guide on how to do this here

can you give a little detail about
"device is also locked and i can't do a recovery due to this"
you did fastboot oem unlock. so saved data is wiped. but you should be able to boot into android system,
if so, enable "developer options" by clicking "settings" --> "about phone" --> "Build Number" click it 7 times,
then go into settings developer options and enable USB debugging.
then, use not fastboot, but adb to boot into recovery.

That doesn't work as my device crashes when it goes into recovery..
eg: "fastboot oem unlock", factory reset, or a boot recovery all crash as my recovery isn't working. When my device goes to reboot in recovery the 1+ logo comes up, fades out to like a blueish from the white 1+ logo and crashes.. so basically it's looked and I can't get into recovery.. thanks for trying

Completely stock OnePlus One stuck in bootloop after latest CM OTA update

Hi everyone,
I'm hoping you can help me. I've had a OnePlus One since August 2014, completely stock. Never modded it, never 'flashed' anything, never installed anything outside of the Google Play Store. Always installed the official OTA updates as they pop up on the phone itself. Basically a reeeeealllly boring android user!
So Thursday morning (09/06/2016) I got a notification that a system update was downloaded and ready to install. Clicked install, the process began, phone rebooted as per usual. However, on the install progress screen (the green android with the spinning cogs), about one third of the way through the phone freezes. About 20 seconds later the phone reboots itself and then tries to install the update again. Freezes. Reboots. Tries to install. Freezes. Reboots. Tries to install.... I think you get the idea. It was doing this for a couple of hours before I checked it.
I'm moderately tech-savvy but never really got involved with android modding, rooting or flashing. So I'm a bit confused as to why my completely stock phone is stuck in a bootloop after installing an official CyanogenMod OTA update. The current status of my phone is that I can only boot into Fastboot mode via VolUp + Power. I can get my computer to detect my phone in Fastboot mode, however it informs me that my bootloader is locked. Attempting to boot into recovery mode via VolDown + Power just starts the update install and enters the bootloop.
I've done some research in to flashing a recovery image or manually applying the OTA update. One problem I've noticed is that I have absolutely NO idea what version of Android / CM my device was at before the update, and I have NO idea what version it was trying to update to. I do know that it was some version of Marshmallow before it broke. I've had no issues with the phone before this, aside the occasional self-reboot.
I REALLY want to keep all my data (pictures, contacts etc.) and am very nervous about actually doing anything because I have very little idea as to what I'm really doing.
Can anyone offer any advice on how to get my phone to boot/update/recover through Fastboot with a locked bootloader and without losing any data?
Thanks,
Stormin'
AKA the "HOW DO I PLAY BOOM BEACH NOW?!" guy
Edit: I solved my issue. It might work for you too, permalink to my post (#9) below: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67278091&postcount=9
Are you able to get into recovery mode? If so, you should be able to just flash a new ROM. Sideload one using the adb push command, wipe your data (this will clear settings, apps, etc. DO NOT SELECT SD CARD - that will wipe your personal files including your photos). Then install. Hopefully it should all work fine.
If you can't access the recovery can you access the bootloader sceen (the one with the big green bugdroid)? Then I'd suggest using Fastboot to install a new recovery. Then try the above.
If you can't even get to that stage you're screwed, just like me (unless anyone has any ideas). I've had soft bricks many times before but today I can't even get to the bootloader screen. ADB says the phone is offline. The screen is back and flickers on for a split second every now and then. Bloody CM Updater.
As IBM9001 has said, if you can get into recovery - even being stock - you can still clear your cache - don't do a full factory reset, just the cache, this may help, but even if it doesn't it still rules out one option.
I can't access recovery mode, using the key combo it just boots straight into the installer.
I've got a support ticket open with OnePlus and a scheduled remote assistance tomorrow. However from the preparational email it looks like they are going to factory reset the phone and then clean install CM. They've instructed me to make sure that all my files are backed up... I assume this means I will lose them.
Is there ANY way just to access or pull the photos off my phone? That's the most important bit. Dropbox hit its storage limit at the beginning of 2015 and I refused to pay, so now I have 18 months worth of pictures that I have no other copies of on death row
The only thing I can access is Fastboot...

I can boot into Fastboot mode, and plugging my phone into my PC works i.e. it is recognised. I have the fastboot .exe and USB drivers, and can issue commands to my phone through cmd such as
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
which works.
How do I use a recovery .img through Fastboot? or can I pull the contents of the sd card through Fastboot?
Hey mate i had same problem with my friends phone. But in that case i was able to open recovery mode.. So if you can do that just download any full zip of opo.. Like cm12.1 or cm13. Then flash it without clearing data.. So will not loose amything not even a single application..
I did that by using adb sideload just google it how to use it. And for that download full android sdk toollit and then download only fastboot and adb domt download whole studio. Because somete old version of adb and minifastboot will not work on adb sideload... So good luck with that..
Hi guys,
I have the same issue!
If I flash a new recovery from fast boot will I lose my data on sdcard?
Thanks.

I'm currently having a very similar issue, but my phone completed the update. It's just stuck in a reboot/"optimizing apps" loop. I can boot into recovery and I tried to clear cache, but It's still just optimizing apps then rebooting and optimizing again over and over. Do you think your suggestion would help me too?
Wooooo, I've fixed it! I don't know why what I did fixed the issue (probably bypassed something) but my phone is up and running again! First thing I'm doing is making a freakin' backup!
So I was just trying everything in desperation. So that others can attempt to fix the same problem, here's what I did:
1. State of phone was either boots normally and crashes when installing update, or boots into fastboot. Would NOT boot into recovery!
2. Booted into fastboot using key combo (hold Volume Up, then Power Button)
3. Attached phone to computer via data usb lead
4. Started up cmd console, used command "fastboot devices" to check that device was recognised (note you need the fastboot files and USB drivers etc., Google it if you're not sure)
5. Used command "fastboot continue" to continue with 'autoboot'. This rebooted my phone but skipped the installer and went to the 'optimising apps' stage. Left phone alone for a couple of hours but it got stuck in another bootloop optimising apps, rebooting, optimising apps and so on.
6. Turned phone off, then booted normally with just the power button. This started the update install again except it didn't crash, and completed the update install. Then it optimised the apps again (albeit with a different total app count) and once finished, phone starts up normally.
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! Happy to have my phone back. Now to go through the half-dozen or so voicemails I've collected over these last few days... great.
Hi guys,
@stormin, congrats!
@masterjigar, so you didn't lose the data like photos etc. doing so?
I can boot to recovery, but can't connect by PC to it.
In fast boot mode my PC sees it as well as in dab sideload mode.
I haven't the boot loader unlocked then I have to do it first, right?
But cyanogen site says that unlocking the boot loader will wipe all the device data.
Is there any way get the photos and other files back?
Thanks.
From the FAQ:
Q4a: Can I flash ROMs or SuperSU or anything else with the stock recovery?
No, the stock recovery can only flash zips that are signed by CM, this means official updates only. You need a custom recovery to flash anything else.

Does it mean I can flash an official CM firmware without unlocking the boot loader?
Thanks.

That's what adb sideload is all about. It will give you temporary adb access (which is always after unlocking bootloader and root). So you can also flash xip via sideload. Without losing data and media..
Same problem, Also PC not detecting my phone
Hey Guys, I am Stuck at the same thing at Bootloop. But to do anything further I need to connect my phone to the PC. I haven't been able to connect my phone to PC since the time I have got the phone. You can't adb sideload .img or a partition.
You have to use fastboot.
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot_img_name.img
or
Code:
fastboot boot boot_img_name.img

Yes but then I have to unlock my bootloader first. And unlocking bootloader erase all the user files....
Is there other way to to run cm-13.1-ZNH2KAS1KN-bacon-boot-debuggable-b19ebe021f.img on the devise?

[Help Needed] Semi Bricked - Remove substratum overlay or somehow backup my data

Hey Guys,
So my idiot brain decided to mess around with substatum themes after I updated and rerooted my OP7P. I rooted with magisk but forgot to put TWRP recovery on.
Anyways, got the phone semi bricked when applying one of the overlays. The phone boots and I can see my lock screen wallpaper but the screen is just flashing on/off.
I cant use the fingerprint or pin to get it. Is there a way for me to backup my pictures and data or somehow remove substratum?
Biggest problem is that for whatever reason, the update revoked my ADB authorization so it looks like I cant do anything with ADB.
If someone has any way to salvage my situation, please reply. Factory reset is my last resort due to no backup.
Thank You
Try booting into TWRP and using ADB there.
Well boot to fastboot. Flash twrp there and then reboot to twrp.
Flash rescue zip and you should be good to go

Problem is, I dont have TWRP recovery flashed, looks like it reverted to stock recovery after I updated. I rooted with Magisk which does not put TWRP back. I forgot to flash it after.
I also probably wont be able to do anything in fastboot either because the update removed the ADB Authorization and I am unable to accept it since my screen doesnt respond to anything, I will attempt this route though.
Edit: No go. ADB vendor key not set and I dont think I will be able to accept it on my device due to unresponsive screen

Fastboot doesn't need adb.
Switch off the phone, reboot to fastboot.
Then type fastboot boot (filelocation of twrp.img)
Then your phone will boot to twrp.
Flash rescue.zip.
If it is still a no go. Then use msm tool

Rebooted to fastboot, entered the PIN but Fastboot is a no go. Just keeps saying <waiting for any device> and nothing happens. Would that be because the authorization keys were not accepted after the update?
I am downloading the MSM Tool and will try that if I cant get it to work with fastboot. Will update if it works.
Thanks for suggestions
Ended up using the MSM tool. Did not know it wipes data and also put me back to Android 9.
Oh well, lesson learned. Gotta make monthly backups, make sure twrp is installed and working before messing around with substatrum.
Thanks for the help.
