[Q] Nexus 5 Radio shuts off, can´t turn back on - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I hope someone can help me with an issue i've been having since i got my nexus a week ago.
The problem is that the phone looses signal at random times and it doesn't come back on it own, ever. When i check on the developers menu (*#*#4636#*#*) i see that the radio is turned off, and there's a button to turn it back on that doesn't do a thing when pressed.
The only thing that has worked so far is swapping the sim card for another one, and then inserting the original sim back again. I have no clue as to why this works. Needless to say, this solution is not acceptable to me.
The phone is running android 5.0.1, with the latest radio installed.
Any ideas?
Extra data: I ordered the phone thorugh amazon since I live in argentina and google won't take interational cards. I ordered a D820 and while in the back of the phone it says it's a D820. In fastboot I actually see, it is the D821 (same when i go to about phone and regulatory info). I have no explanation for this and can't figure out if this might have something to do with the malfunctioning.

Open a case on Amazon and ask for a refund

[Q] HTC Surround Frozen?

Okay, googled, and bing'd the crap out of this and it looks like so far everyone who's had this issue has had to send their phones in for repair, but before doing that I thought I'd ask here aswell to see if anyone has been able to solve this problem.
I've had my HTC Surround for about a month now and this morning when I went to use it I noticed I couldn't read my emails, it said something like "Oops we were not able to retrieve your email." I thought no problem I'll just restart my phone. I turned it off, and turned it back on. Ever since then the phone has been stuck on the white HTC start screen. I've pulled the battery four times and tried restarting it. I've restarted it holding the volume up and down buttons and I get a bootloader screen (no option to hard reset). I can plug it into my computer on the bootloader screen and the computer recognizes the device as an HTC SD card. (This is nice to know seeing as I can, if I ever get the phone working again, load files on the phone's SD card that Zune won't let me) however this is bad because Zune will not recognize the phone.
Sooo, anyone else had this problem and been able to fix it themselves? I don't want to have to send it to HTC because I have no warranty. I bought the phone used. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
And this is running 7004, I have no unlocked the phone or tampered with it in any way. (yet)
Have you looked in the development forum for your stock ROM and tried flashing it from the bootloader?
I couldn't find a rom to flash. Maybe I will just use this as an opportunity to switch to Sprint and buy an Arrive. That way I can be done with ATT's crappy service.
I'm on my third surround now, with both previous ones dead with the exact same situation you have described. I called ATT, had them replace them on warranty for free. I'm waiting for this third one to die so I can get a different model
P.S. I tried flashing the stock ROM, hard resetting, and everything else trying to get both phones back to life but I ended up just having to warranty them. Call up ATT and have them send you a new one.
Thanks, I was able to do a warranty claim. Technically I wasn't allowed to because I bought the phone outright (used) on craigslist. But since the person at ATT was lazy and didn't check when I went in the sent me to my local device support center and I was able to walk out with a new phone in 5 minutes.
Hope this doesn't keep occurring though. If they were to ever check how the phone was purchased I'd be screwed.

I had the same problem with my Surround a few months ago. Then I had another one that kept losing the data off the device. I'm on my third one now and it has been holding up for three months.
I also noticed in the store that all the display models of the phone were having the exact same issue.
I think they changed something up, as this new one seems to be hanging in there much better than the last two.
hi
i am new , post post post

Can someone who's had their fone apart help me out?

My girlfriend's fone had the screen replaced today and i picked it up and bought it home, we've put the sim card back in but its not showing any service. Its recognised the card and the sim contacts but won't connect to the network and if I search for networks in settings it just says error searching
Any ideas? Have they left something unplugged inside etc?

They could very easily have left something disconnected, but I'm not sure exactly what it would be. My DS is currently apart while I wait for a new LCD screen and it is in a load of parts. Although it is quite complicated, the only real culprit would be the little pop-on aerial cable that runs from the main board down to the aerial connector board.
Your best bet is to take it back to the shop (with your SIM card) and ask them to fix whatever they've screwed up for you. Taking it apart is unlikely to be a good idea if you needed to take it to a shop to get it fixed in the first place.
Ah then I'll take it back to them tomorrow! Thanks!
I just wanted to know what it would be if i take it back

Lumia 820 turns off and wont turn back on

Im having a problem with my 820 and its pretty darn annoying. Every one and then it just turns off and the only way to turn it back on is to take the battery out. Anyone else having this problem?
Yep
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2021800
Hope you get it sorted.
Yep, I had it once, it was just after I paired it via bt to my car but it hasn't happened since.
Sent from my RM-825_eu_euro1_217 using Board Express
I think the system update released yesterday fixed this.
Yep, instead of taking out the battery, turn it on while holding volume down.

thats doesnt even work... have to take out the battery.
This crap happened 3x in the last 24h. Phone is going back and I regret that I didnt take another Android phone...
Had to send mine back, Bear in mind this is a hardware issue and not related to the OS as my replacement is working faultlessly, Androids have their hardware issues too and I have had to send many a HTC back for repair, Am none too impressed with Nokia ATM as the wifes Lumia 900 has just had to go in for repair with a non working loudspeaker

I agree, this is Nokias last whistle if they want to survive in the phone market and so far they are blowing it... ;/
I got a Lumia 820 for X-mas with the same error.
I have update the firmware to verion 1232.5951.1249.1003 and there is still this problem where the screen is turned off and I have hold down power and "volume down" button to restart the phone. It is very annoying, special when the alarm is not working in the morning.
Is there a software/firmware solution to the problem or is it a hardware error in the phone?
I found this at nokia forum:
http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Nokia-Lumia/Lumia-820-freeze/m-p/1613474/highlight/true#M25637
I will try to turn off speech in setting and see if the phone will continue to freeze
I gave mine into to get replaced... Pissed me off too much to try and fix it.

After 4 days with the Speech settings turned off have the phone only freezed one in that time. The phone used to freeze 3-4 times every day. The phone af been constant turned on and I can use the alarm to wake up in the morning.
Update:
Today the Lumia 820 freezed. The only thing have have changed is that the Bluetooch have been turned with my headset, used and then turned off again.
got my phone back today... Unfortunately its the same phone... reflashed. Reinserted my SIM... 30min and it froze.... THANKS NOKIA! First and last phone from you.
That really is bad work from Nokia, I ended up selling my O2 replacement as got short of cash but cannot fault O2 as they did replace my faulty handset.
I am now debating whether to get another Nokia as had nothing but trouble with all of the Lumias me and the wife have owned, From Proximity sensor failures to loudspeaker to Device not waking up,
Think they really are in trouble now as they have shifted yet another 1000 workers

They are definately in trouble. This was there last chance and they blew it. Shoulda gone Android when they had the chance and not bash it. Some really good looking phones with crappy software.
Time to go b*tch at the guy from the store again.
Possible Solution !!!!
THIS IS NOT MY COMMENT, only copied from http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Nokia-Lumia/Nokia-Lumia-920-freezing/td-p/1604040/page/13 from user CloudStrife
I think there are many problems all software related. I wonder if all the Lumias were made using the same hardware, i.e. the same wlan adapter, the same video processor etc etc... if the answer to this question was NO, then there might be compatibility issues with the driver for different components.
Some experience the issue with the WLan I read, I exprienced that with the data network, leaving it only WLan never made it freeze. Some others with the "find my phone" option. That maybe could explain the crashes during the night?
However... I found and tried to follow a suggestion that one user reported coming from both Microsoft and Nokia, and surprisingly it seems to have fixed my issue.
I removed the SIM, then turned up the phone and left it on for 10 minutes (I read that when the "no sim" message appears, some files are supposed to be deleted, and written again when the SIM will be put back in the handset and recognized as new).
Then I shut it down, inserted the SIM back, and turned it on.
It has never frozen again, it's about four days.
My issue was when I had both network data connection and WiFi, or when I had only network data connection but with low service so it was often switching between 2G (Edge) and 3G data connection.
From when I tried that I left enabled both WiFi and network data, and it never froze again.
I don't know if it's a definitive solution, but I hope so.
What I'm pretty sure of is the fact that if I left both WiFi and network data enabled before, it was a matter of hours for it to freeze.
I hope that my experience can be helpful for someone... at least, it worths a try.
OR
Try this:
If automatic date/time settings are on, the phone freezes if there is problems with the date/time sync:
1. On Start, flick left to the App list, tap Settings , and then tap Date+time.
2. Tap to toggle Set automatically to Off.
3. Perform a "Soft Reset", i.e. press and hold the power button and volume down button for about 10 seconds; the phone should vibrate and reboot your phone.
4. After reboot date+time should be wrong! Thus, on Start, flick left to the App list, tap Settings , and then tap Date+time.
5. Tap on each of the options to set your current Time zone, Date, and Time. When you're done, tap the phone's back button.
IMPORTANT Don't turn on automatic date+time setting again!
OR
It is the Network + update and affects everyone!
after software update ,not switching on
after the windows software update automatically my lumia 820 gone for restarting,, after that it shows nokia logo and gone off again,, now my phone is not switching on,, is there any problem happen with the software update? how to recover from this problem?

Phone dead after trying new SIM

Hi! first of all, this is the first time I write here, but I've been reading XDA for a while.
OK, thing is, my Nexus S, which I bought in Spain a year ago died two days ago in the USA (i'm an exchange student). Is a free phone, I mean it has no carrier and in Spain I've used it with two different companies with no problems.
I went to a Tmobile store to get an american SIM card, the man asked me a few questions, among them what was the phone's IMEI. I turned it off and put the new SIM, but the phone won't turn on. I've tried my old spanish simcard and also no simcard at all and nothing works. Also I've tried holding the button for 20 seconds and holding power+volume, but it's dead. It gets warm when is charging and also shows a blue screen when I put the battery on it, or sometimes when I press the button.
The phone has never been rooted, the bootloader is locked and the rom was the last official JB for nexus S.
My question is, is this just a coincidence or there is a possibility to brick a device by changing the SIM? looks like a great coincidence that it just decided to die there.
Can it be just a dead battery? Is it worth to try to buy a new cheap battery in ebay?
What can I do to try to revive it? It's hard to be so far away from home and with my beloved Nexus Dead:crying:
Sorry for the long post!

WiFi just refuses to turn on

When I tap the WiFi toggle option, either from top menu or from the settings, it refuses to turn on. It is the exact problem being shown in the video I've attached at the bottom of this post.
Details:
- The phone is Mate 9 (MHA-AL00).
- I can't claim warranty.
- I've tried wiping the cache in recovery mode.

This is really strange. Today morning when I tried to turn on the WiFi, it just turned on as if nothing had happened. Really strange.
So weird issue.
Check whether you have some special network management app installed on your device which would block the WLAN feature.
Anyone found a solution here
Hello,
For 2 days now, I have exactly the same issue with wifi and Bluetooth. As soon I switch them on, they get switched off instantly.
I have tried to reboot, safe mode, cache wipe, full factory wipe, but no results. This happened a month ago but came back to normal by itself. But this time it won't.
I contacted Huawei, they told me that my phone comes from China, where they have only one year warrenty, so they cannot it fix it in France even if we have 2 years warrenty here! Super!
Do you have any idea or tutorial on how to purchase and change the wifi/Bluetooth antenna?
Thank you for your help.
Great I'm on a MHA-L29C567 (US) model and as of about a month ago the same thing started happening me. I thought at first it was a radio update and reset the entire device back to stock but now the device is doing the same thing and worse now randomly reboots.
Really frustrating because I really love the phone but for the rear color camera focus sticking and this issue now. Looks like I may need to abandon the phone.
Your motherboard is crapping out, there is no other fix but a board replacement.
