Hello! I was wondering if any of you tech savvy people could help me out. I had bricked my Galaxy S3 and installed a new ROM on it in order to fix it. Needless to say it worked, or so I thought. Could you help? Details are below.
Model: Samsung-SGH-I747 (AT&T)
Issues:
-Camera won't take pictures, yet I can see what it sees.
-Video won't record.
-Mic won't pick up audio.
-No audio from phone at all.
-SIM is not being read
-Whole phone is a little laggy.
Please help me, Samsung chat wasn't very helpful.
Try flashing full stock via Odin
that or try a different kenel. It would be good tho to start all fresh with the right firmware

Thanks for the replies! I had flashed it with a ROM I linked below. Also, could you elaborate on what a Kernel is?
On the Samsung Updates page, Galaxy S III LTE (AT&T) SGH-I747, is the device. I selected the only ROM available.

Changing a kernel is pretty easy, just download the appropriate kernel for your phone and flash it through any custom recovery, then wipe cache and dalvik cache to avoid any future issues, you are good to go then

I am using this kernel on my s3. Its really good, a lot of powerful options, and easy to install. Just make sure you read thru the entire OP and research anything you don't understand. Depending on how bad your phone is, it might not be a bad idea to odin the original firmware and start fresh.

This is a badass ROM. I am running the sprint version tho. This is the one ported to at&t. the kernel comes built in on the sprint version and probably is also on this one. I had to flash the att kernel to work with sprints new version of the s3. http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-att/development/rom-ported-wicked-x-v8-0-att-t2985227 Same thing there too. Read the entire OP at least and as much of the att and original thread as you can, and thank the devs.

Im new to the android community and phones. I bought an Inspire with gingerbread (2.3.3) and would like to add cyanogenmod to it but the tutorials look so "harmfull" they scare me away so i have some question.
Can i downgrade from 2.3 to android v1?
Have anyone here rooted and flashed the same phone I have?
What is "radio? Can I change it to another one? how can I tell if it will work with my carrier?
please, please, please. READ
these questions you are asking concern me
1. you dont downgrade to v1....because it doesnt exist
2. we all have the same phone as you, otherwise we wouldnt have an inspire section
3. there is an entire thread dedicated to this very subject....look in the dev section.
there are easy to follow guides, tutorials, and walkthroughs here, but you have to READ...there is ZERO excuse for not reading and comprehending this stuff. if it is too much for you, you should NOT be doing any of it, and leave your phone stock

this question has come up several times in the last month. yes it works just fine
Hi, i just rotted the unit and everything was fine
So i decided to use, cyanogenmod, it installed
now i can make calls but it does not connect to the data network portion.
Any ideas?
I noticed the radio baseband is slighly different than the original. could it be?
Sorry. was quick. i entered the APN settings and it is now connecting.. just Edge....before (stock rom) i had "H" (guessing is 3G). Now it only connects to E (edge i assume).
The weird thing is that before whenever i was in an area with only edge It would not allow me to browse but now I can.
any idea jedi master?
you can try a different radio. look at the radio thread in the dev section
Sorry to bother you so much. I was able to solve the radio issue. Now, since the market app wasn't included i followed the guide on how to install gapps but after doing so i can't get pass the boot screen "touch the android to begin".
I try to wipe and reflash but still does not let me do it. Any ideas?
did you touch the android to begin?
Yes, sir. But it will still restart.
i try to wipe data and restart the process but same thing happens.
Tried taping the four corners and an still happening.
Someone said the the gapps file might be corrupted.
Right now cyanogenmod is a pain. is there a way to install another room or the stock one through recovery?
Thanks for all your help!

go to mounts and storage

Hello,
Couldn't find any solution in the forum.
My friend accidentally deleted data folder on sd card on his HTC Incredible. Now his phone is not going to boot at all. Are there easy ways to resolve this?
I have a little experience in rooting, flashing roms on my Desire Z. But feeling a bit scary to perform this with another phone.
Would appreciate any help.
UPDATE : I asked him again, now I'm not sure what exactly he has deleted. He is far from IT person, and unlikely that he has rooted phone or made something like that, that is why I guessed that he just deleted something from sd card. Let me try to explain behaviour of the phone:
When the phone is starting to boot, it at first shows htc screen, then screens on the pictures, then phone just freezes.
Holding Volume Down button with Power button allows to see menu, but then trying to boot recovery or just boot makes same thing as above, Trying to make Factory reset just freezes phone on the menu window.
ANY GUESS WHAT IT MIGHT BE? OR WHAT IS THE BEST THING I CAN DO?
UPD2: My friend deleted some apps (processes with names starting com...) from All applications menu in Settings in HTC Sense.

If he has a recent Nandroid backup then he can just flash that and let it rebuild what it needs to. Otherwise you can S-Off and root his phone, then install a custom or stock ROM as you like.
You will find more help in the HTC Incredible or HTC Incredible S forums, depending on exactly what model phone your friend has.
I think deleting any folder on sd card never cause this type of serious problem...
Unless and unless you screw in system files or boot files of your device this happens..
And as we all know that all these critical files stored in device memory so deleting anything on memory card never do this..
Just inquire him he must screwed up something in root directory of device..
we all should be polite enough to press thanks for anyone who helped US.
maybe your friend deletes data folder in which is in the internal storage.
maybo you can access you phone after a full wipe.
My suggestion is to restore with a NANDROID or flash a ROM.

Just full wipe! The data partition doesn't affect the rom, because rom is in system partition. The only problems are mismatches of data. Full wipe to assure the system "knows about your forced data wipe".

In that case, I would recommend flashing your kernel anew.
If it doesn't help, you could try to flash a stock firmware. If this didn't help, I would probably visit a repair shop.

Now that clarified it all. Of course you can flash it anew... Even in the worst situation your phone could be in, you can always flash kernels and firmwares!!!
Assuming the rooting process is same or simillar to Desire HD u could use hack ace tool to downgrade to stock rom, root and install cwm recovery.
After that you can flash any custom rom.

Note: In fact, you don't need the debugging on. You need flash drivers instead! Kernels may be flashed even if you don't have debugging on! I write from experience
Basically I am happy with the stock ROM but would like to get rid of the "fluff" that's there. Also want to theme I think. Anyway, What should I be looking for if I do the ROM? I am a 3 year past user of iPhone and had it jailbroke, so now I am reading and learning about Android.
The things that really matter to me are:
GPS applications
Photo Applications
Organization without the bloat

Thanks everyone. Sounds like that would be a good one for me but I will do some research on it first though. A few questions though, on the iPhone JB's it is pretty much a one click affair with the addition of tweaking and daemon removals for speed and such. How does one mount the ROM, do I navigate to a folder and drag it in (PC) or? BTW I am doing the research on this.
Also, how do I tell whether I have twrp recovery or CMW?

Well for beginners you picked the right Device, and welcome to the good side.
Recoveries are kinda user preference. TWRP is touch screen / CWM is button operated. Both work good.
You know what recovery your on but the one you flash.
Do alot of reading and Enjoy !

Reading through this guide I think I understand that you must update SuperUser before proceeding. If that's true where in the app is there an option to do so? I sure don't see it playing with the menus.

One clicks are great until something goes wrong. And when something inevitabley does go wrong you are up a Creek without a paddle since you have no idea quite exactly what the one click did.
Look at droidstyles guide. That will teach you how to do essentially everything with this phone. Just make sure you always verify that anything you flash is for the USA gs3 Verizon.
Sent from my cm_tenderloin using xda premium
Do your reading and read everything twice! Make sure you unlock your bootloader, and verify that you only flash files for the Verizon version of the phone!
Rooting is similar in some ways to Jailbreaking, but gives you significant more control. Rooting is simple, but it is only the first step if you want to flash custom ROMs, kernels, themes, etc.
Once you flash a custom recovery (TWRP or CWM) and start flashing things through Recovery, you are doing way more than you ever did with Jailbreak.
I already have ROM manager on my phone. Today I ready about and installed Titanium Backup Pro. I've been getting rid of bloatware with it and doing back ups. Don't Rom Manager and Titanium Backup do essentially the same thing?
What do you do with "kernels" anyway?
My phone
sg3 i535
Verizon
4.4.2
NE1
Kernel version 3.4.0
I've tried rooting it, installing the cwm recovery, and CM11....I booted into recover and did all the resetting and wiping etc but when I go to install cm11, it fails and I have to reset from the loader (vol down, home pwr) or it hangs and tells me to take the phone to a Verizon wireless store because of illegal software.
What am I doing wrong?
From the beginning, assuming I have nothing installed (root/cwm ect)
What do I do first?
It sounds like the aboot isn't loading properly. Start from scratch again and use Casual and make sure the aboot takes.

Way to help by telling him something that is 100% incorrect and may lead to him bricking his phone. Casual does not work on 4.4.2 NE1, only towelroot works. Hell, the title of the Casual thread even reads "Up to MF1." Let the people who know what they are talking about help this guy.

Amen to the above. Yet another person looking to brick their phone because they didn't do any research beforehand. I have stopped posting and helping in the forums and only come here to read threads like this for the pure entertainment value. I LMFAO all the time.

I wanted to first off say thank you to not only you landshark68 but SlimSnoopOS and also BadUsername. You three always help people out and I personally started out by reading which is truthfully the best way to start anything when it comes to modifying your device. I only know most of what I know from you three, you all are essential and I appreciate that a lot. Thank you again

I tip my hat to you and @SlimSnoopOS for continuing to help everyone, and I do mean everyone. I am still more than willing to help the people who have done their homework but for whatever reason just seem to be struggling or don't quite grasp it all. Those who haven't done any reading or research are on their own. I know I should be nicer and help everyone, and I did it for years. But if people are not willing to put forth a little effort to read and research on their own why should I put forth any effort?

Its frustrating for sure at times, sometimes I'll read the topic but won't respond because I just get to the point where repeating myself becomes annoying. Your just giving what you get, I wouldn't sweat the small stuff. I agree completely with the last part! I get tired of people just assuming things

Right back at you. You may think you learned a lot from SlimSnoopOS, BadUsername, and me. But the truth is we all learn from each other. I have learned so much from reading posts by the three of you and from chatting back and forth with the three of you. I, like you, did nothing but read until my eyes hurt before I did anything to the first phone I rooted - a Samsung Fascinate. Pretty much anyone can root their phone if they are given detailed, step-by-step instructions. But if you don't understand what you did after you followed those instructions, did they really do you any good?

Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [ROM][4.4.4] MIUI v5 4.8.22. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!

I can receive texts, make calls, take them everything but sending texts works for me, can someone help me? Is there something I missed?

Just a suggestion but put your post in the initial thread, I know it's an attempt at keeping the threads clean but this Q&A thing has gotten a little out of hand
From my CM11 S3
Well, tried, then it said you must have posts etc and automatically
directed me here, otherwise I totally would have, just love miui and want texting abilities

I hear ya. I'd post there anyways. That's just me though. And yea MIUI is pretty sweet
@coryj8915 it's merely because you don't have 10 or more Posts
From my CM11 S3
So of i dont have anything else to post on? I mean I guess I understand why it maybe that way, but I've no need to make 7 more Posts and just would like to get a fix or a direction and have other people with the same problem potentially find a problem as well.

Haptic level
Hi, I just upgraded to the 4.4 SCH i535 miui rom and can't find the option to decrease vibration strength for haptic. It used to be in the settings under advanced, but it's not there anymore, only the option to turn it on or off via sound menu. Is there another way to do this, or a WSM module? I've looked everywhere and can't find anything on this particular rom. Thanks!
Has anyone had issues with the alarm app force closing when trying to change alarm frequency in the latest update?
Wanted to try something else for a change on my S III and I am getting insufficient storage when installing certain root apps. Anyone know a fix for this?

Do you have any excess backups on your phone? I've used miui without any storage issues
My S3 running BlissStalk
Installed rom / Pico PA gapps / SuperSU and when I wanted to redownload apps from Google ( not restoring data ) just says insufficient space
---------- Post added at 06:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:58 PM ----------
And my internal still has 14 gigs open so super fresh install ( I did a full clean wipe. )

Seems like this is a known issue with the S3, did some digging and found a lot of information on xda as well as around the web. Unsure what the best bet is

Device Control in play store or KTweaker app either one will do the job

Not sure if this works in MIUI as I haven't ran this in a couple weeks. It was a nice rom though, I always did like MIUI especially the specialty MIUI built in apps..
Anyway, Device Control I'm 90 percent certain lets you adjust haptic feedback. I usually set mine to around 10 percent. The test button never works for me but when you hit okay, you can feel the difference.. There's a ton of other cool settings in there too. And it's free.
Also, if you use the KToonz Kernel, the KTweaker app also has the option somewhere in there to adjust the haptic feedback.
Hope this helps I know I may be late to the table, but maybe someone can make use of this information.

Corrupt KT747 Kernel
Greetings all. I was directed to this thread by the developer. So heres my issue:
I'm on SGS3 vzw. I installed MIUI 4.8.22 using TWRP (newest version). I cleared delvik, cache, factory reset thrice, flashed MIUI, then flashed gapps, then I flashed the cdma fix (I assumed that I needed it). I am unable to start a Xiomi cloud account and when I tried to flash the KT aosp 4.4.4 kernel, I got a "file corrupted" message. Is there an updated KT747 somewhere, or am I trying to install the wrong kernel or what? I would appreciate any help on the matter....BTW.....I really like the look of MIUI. I may keep it!
What Baseband to use?
I have a verizon SCH-I535 currently using VRUCML1 Baseband, running Android 4.4.4 and the phone is unlocked. Is there a newer baseband for this phone or should I continue using the currrent baseband? I haven't really found any topics that answer my question.
Thank You

Baseband/radio/modem are all the same thing pretty much. You can update the modem to NE1 without any issues. I also have a unlocked S3
