[Q] help plz...been trying for hours. :( - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

My phone
sg3 i535
Verizon
4.4.2
NE1
Kernel version 3.4.0
I've tried rooting it, installing the cwm recovery, and CM11....I booted into recover and did all the resetting and wiping etc but when I go to install cm11, it fails and I have to reset from the loader (vol down, home pwr) or it hangs and tells me to take the phone to a Verizon wireless store because of illegal software.
What am I doing wrong?
From the beginning, assuming I have nothing installed (root/cwm ect)
What do I do first?

It sounds like the aboot isn't loading properly. Start from scratch again and use Casual and make sure the aboot takes.

You can only root VRUDNE1 using Towelroot. You can only install SafeStrap which only let you run other VRUDNE1 based TouchWiz roms. No AOSP roms. No CWM or TWRP. No custom kernels. Just custom roms based off of the 4.4.2 VRUDNE1 OTA. Here's a guide for more specific info.

Way to help by telling him something that is 100% incorrect and may lead to him bricking his phone. Casual does not work on 4.4.2 NE1, only towelroot works. Hell, the title of the Casual thread even reads "Up to MF1." Let the people who know what they are talking about help this guy.

I wanted to first off say thank you to not only you landshark68 but SlimSnoopOS and also BadUsername. You three always help people out and I personally started out by reading which is truthfully the best way to start anything when it comes to modifying your device. I tip my hat to you and @SlimSnoopOS for continuing to help everyone, and I do mean everyone. I am still more than willing to help the people who have done their homework but for whatever reason just seem to be struggling or don't quite grasp it all. Those who haven't done any reading or research are on their own. I know I should be nicer and help everyone, and I did it for years. But if people are not willing to put forth a little effort to read and research on their own why should I put forth any effort?

Its frustrating for sure at times, sometimes I'll read the topic but won't respond because I just get to the point where repeating myself becomes annoying. Your just giving what you get, I wouldn't sweat the small stuff. I agree completely with the last part! I get tired of people just assuming things

Right back at you. You may think you learned a lot from SlimSnoopOS, BadUsername, and me. But the truth is we all learn from each other. I have learned so much from reading posts by the three of you and from chatting back and forth with the three of you. I, like you, did nothing but read until my eyes hurt before I did anything to the first phone I rooted - a Samsung Fascinate. Pretty much anyone can root their phone if they are given detailed, step-by-step instructions. But if you don't understand what you did after you followed those instructions, did they really do you any good?

no need to be snobby, ive bricked one in my entire life and recovered it thru linux, when it comes to rooting, flashing roms\kernals, and phone software specs and hardware just to add im great, just didnt know how to fix this problem. this is my first htc phone and i love it. Ive always had samsungs before and i simply was asking for help. this isnt my first go round with development at all, i actually do it for a living, so if you can help me thank you but im not here to be riddiculed and treated like some noob that just doesnt understand the value of these phones. Android is my passion, and this circumstance happens to be one that i have never dealt with before. I thought thats what this community is for, like minded people with the same passion helping and learning from one another.
if your using the same phone you flashed a international rom i would run the ruu again which might fix some things the original fix didn't. then reunlock and flash twrp.

[Q] Help ASAP! Might have bricked Galaxy S3

Hey I'm pretty new to rooting, and I think I might have seriously f'd this one up.
I actually did the root just fine, no troubles with that. I just ran something called saferoot, verified the root and actually made a backup with Titanium (on my PC now). After that, I used an app EZ-Unlock which told me my bootloader was successfully unlocked.
Now comes the rough part. I got ROM Manager and used it to install ClockWork Mod. I hit "Make backup with CWM" it shut down my phone, and now I can't get it to boot at all.
I could really use some help ASAP here, I need the phone. Thanks guys
What Android version?

Thanks for pointing me to that awesome sticky, hoping that solves my problem. fortunately I have a microSD -> SD adapter here.
Pisses me off that I can't do this, I hate 4.3 already and this makes it worse.
Someone wanted me to help with an S2 root, their TouchWiz got corrupted. I think 4.1.2, that's fine right?

Yeah the s2 should be fine....should be but read up. The Verizon s3, specifically the 4.3 ota is the problem. They locked it down real good. Anything before the 4.3 ota would've been fine. Sorry
Watch, as I combine all the juice from my mind...
Thanks man. I found an explanation of how to do it online so I thought it was gonna work, but I guess not everyone can be trusted. Read through a tutorial on the cyanogen mod wiki for the S2, seems like it'll be fine.
That debrick fix isn't working...I have a year insurance on this, am I better off throwing this at the wall? Getting a replacement without them knowing it was being changed?

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S3 Trouble

Hello! I was wondering if any of you tech savvy people could help me out. I had bricked my Galaxy S3 and installed a new ROM on it in order to fix it. Needless to say it worked, or so I thought. Could you help? Details are below.
Model: Samsung-SGH-I747 (AT&T)
Issues:
-Camera won't take pictures, yet I can see what it sees.
-Video won't record.
-Mic won't pick up audio.
-No audio from phone at all.
-SIM is not being read
-Whole phone is a little laggy.
Please help me, Samsung chat wasn't very helpful.
Try flashing full stock via Odin

Changing a kernel is pretty easy, just download the appropriate kernel for your phone and flash it through any custom recovery, then wipe cache and dalvik cache to avoid any future issues, you are good to go then

I am using this kernel on my s3. Its really good, a lot of powerful options, and easy to install. Just make sure you read thru the entire OP and research anything you don't understand. Depending on how bad your phone is, it might not be a bad idea to odin the original firmware and start fresh.

This is a badass ROM. I am running the sprint version tho. This is the one ported to at&t. the kernel comes built in on the sprint version and probably is also on this one. I had to flash the att kernel to work with sprints new version of the s3. http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-att/development/rom-ported-wicked-x-v8-0-att-t2985227 Same thing there too. Read the entire OP at least and as much of the att and original thread as you can, and thank the devs.

B2 Root? Is root currently still being worked on?

Sorry to post this but havent seen any updates on any types of root lately, being that the Bounty Sampwnd thread is locked. i know that there is root for the Bootloader v1 but havent seen nothing lately on the Bootloader v2. Just curious as to if it is being worked on or forgotten. I know its a big job with Samsung putting its bootloader on super lockdown and i am in no way nagging a dev to rush, was just wondering how it looks or if files are needed or what may be the problem. Thanks.
PS. before a dev comes on here acting crazy, i dont need root, not as of yet, but, i havent seen the question asked lately and i know some people want to know but are afraid to ask haha. So im doing it for them. And Im pretty sure people, well maybe just me, is getting over flashing back to qk5 and to the next oreo update. Flashfire is a Godsend with that type of thing. Thanks
In my limited reading at this S8+ forum for a week, I haven't come across anything on it that seems current.. near as I can tell.

Yeah I guessed that much. Ice been messing around with the files that I have but to no succession as of yet. I will be messaging these guys hopefully if I have time tonight, and see what they can do for us cause it's possible, but, in their thats I haven't seen anyone ask for it. They modify a whole bunch of stuff for you and all you do is install and let them know what happened and if successful you are only allowed to share the finished product by giving them acknowledgement and a link to their site. Well that would mess it up for me hahaha. I'll see what I can do

luck is actually not needed in this process.. There is a developer who actually has had his QK5 rooted. He has been very busy working and said he will surely upload his method when he has free time. at the moment he is releasing the G950U bootloader 2 root. For those of us with rhe G955U will have to wait for a bit as he has to build it for us. Thankfully for him, S8+ has not been forgotten. Unfortunately the bootloader is still locked but thata ok. As long as we have some sort of root.
Will keep this thread updated once i receive confirmation of methods.

Is there another of obtaining root for say like the 2BQL1? Something similar to say SamPwnd or is root only obtained through an AP flash created by You? I ask only because on Christmas Day, I spent my whole morning and afternoon trying to get my phone to actually boot up into it and not sure why but flashed multiple times and couldn't even get stock to boot after continuously trying to get the Samsung account fixed on the Rom provided. But also so we all know that if we wanted to flash say any other bootloader 2 Rom we could have root on any. But in every current event, thank you partcyborg for your dedication, time, and hard work you do for us here in the s8 & s8+ threads.

But also so we all know that if we wanted to flash say any other bootloader 2 Rom we could have root on any. But in every current event, thank you partcyborg for your dedication, time, and hard work you do for us here in the s8 & s8+ threads.

If you are having flash problems the issue is your USB setup. The most common case is usb3.0 ports that are apparently not compatible with the s8, particularly with large files like the samfail images. If your ports are usb3 switch to usb2 ones and if you don't have one a usb2 hub has been reported to work.
Also try different cables and check your drivers
How does this works and where do I find it?

Yes definitely with partcyborgs Rom. If you were rooted on rev1, I didn't like the first root, you'll be happy with what he has done. Smooth and everything, well almost everything, just works. By far, a better root experience than what we've had.

Can someone give me a step-by-step tutorial to root the G930TUVSACSG1 firmware?

Ive been trying to find a root tutorial for the G930TUVSACSG1 for the past month. I've tried many alts but none of them work. if someone could please comment or send me a link to root the above variant? That would greatly be appreciated. thanks.

What have you tried so far? Did you try the g930U_REV_9_ENG_ROOT.tar? I'm wondering if that will still work along with s7_Oreo_Nougat_Adb_Advanced_Root_V12.zip. I was just given this phone today and was hoping it had an older version than this "A" version. I don't know if the Samsung Experience version being 9.0 means anything at all. This is the first post I've read on this version.
After a bit of digging on Google this shows up:

However i am not sure if it's up to date or not

Instead of the engineering file in the original OP use this file instead, otherwise follow the instructions exactly as written, step by step.

The Eng_Boot.tar that's attached is for the g935. Will that also work for the g930, or is there a different one? Thanks

In this case, the root thread linked is valid, but G930TUVSACSG1 is U10 and the engboot provided is U9. I happen to also be using SG1 (I should've checked XDA before updating, silly me).
I happen to have the U10 engineering ROM, but none of the tools to modify it like all the previous variants.

Well that's disappointing news, I've been back on stock for a while now and due to the age/usage of the phone, wanted to get rerooted to optimize what I can.
I'm on ACSI1 build though, for the curious, if anybody has any ideas or comes across a method to root, please inform me.

I just got my notification for the SI1 update. I don't have much optimism for our rooting future. I am really missing Xposed and the ad blocking capabilities. If I see or hear anything, I'll let you know.

I just rooted using this and the eng.boot.tar by BillA which is attached near the end of the thread. It might even be the same eng.boot you had. It's around 22mb in size. https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-s7-edge/how-to/root-s7-s7edge-oreo-nougat-t3819616

I just grabbed another phone two days ago too, but I'll give it a look when I'm bored and feel like geeking out lol.
Appreciate you letting me know!

Hey, I did receive another S7 (friends give me old phones because they know I love geeking out) and rooted successfully, so I appreciate the info. Secondly, I noticed a new eng bootloader was uploaded to AFH a few weeks ago, the one we used was rev8, this one being rev10, so I'm going to go ahead and start fresh to see if its any improvement. Just thought I'd share the info, return the favor so to speak, in case you're interested in checking it out. :highfive:
I'll follow up if everything was successful.
G930x_QC_ENG_BOOT_BIN_10_U10_REV10.tar
Edit:
Successful

Yea, I had rooted with his first few iterations of that thread, which obviously was iffy on whether it was worth having root due to overheating, battery drain, etc etc. The post you mentioned was me wanting to tinker with an extra phone that had been updated beyond what was considered exploitable. And while it's only day 2-3, and not my 'daily driver', I must say, it seems to be considerably more responsive and stable thus far, actually haven't noticed much in terms of drain, lag, or heat like before, so I can definitely recommend it. Obviously, results may very, but following procedure, I flashed stock beforehand, then rooted using instructions to a T, only swapping out the eng boot. Just had a response on the root thread stating he successfully rooted his s7 edge from the latest update (by renaming the eng boot, but honestly, an unnecessary step).
Feel free to let me know how it goes (if you try it out), and good luck! :highfive::good:

I want to give the v10 a try, but I just recently had to reroot due to trying to flash a Dolby Atmos zip that put me into an unrecoverable bootloop. I'm thinking that I'll have to reroot if I flash the eng.boot. I'm too lazy to set up my phone again so soon. Lol. When I do though, I'll let you know.

I feel ya, it becomes a chore at times, but just to update, it's been running smooth as silk for me, again, not my daily driver, but using it frequently enough that I can verify that this has been the smoothest running eng boot setup I've had (and I've had them all). I'm not usually very lucky in that regard, even with the technical know-how to optimize it to it's maximum potential, I'm fairly pleased with it. I dare say it's been comparable to running a standard oem root environment, but I'm hesitant because I'm sure thats when it'll turn around and bite me in the ass lol.

I hear ya. I haven't had any overheating issues, lag, or horrible battery drain with the v8 that I got from biila. Can't wait to try v10
