Can someone give me a step-by-step tutorial to root the G930TUVSACSG1 firmware? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Ive been trying to find a root tutorial for the G930TUVSACSG1 for the past month. I've tried many alts but none of them work. if someone could please comment or send me a link to root the above variant? That would greatly be appreciated. thanks.

What have you tried so far? Did you try the g930U_REV_9_ENG_ROOT.tar? I'm wondering if that will still work along with s7_Oreo_Nougat_Adb_Advanced_Root_V12.zip. I was just given this phone today and was hoping it had an older version than this "A" version. I don't know if the Samsung Experience version being 9.0 means anything at all. This is the first post I've read on this version.

After a bit of digging on Google this shows up:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s7/how-to/g930tuvs9csc1-root-t3948777
However i am not sure if it's up to date or not

The Eng_Boot.tar that's attached is for the g935. Will that also work for the g930, or is there a different one? Thanks

In this case, the root thread linked is valid, but G930TUVSACSG1 is U10 and the engboot provided is U9. I happen to also be using SG1 (I should've checked XDA before updating, silly me).
I happen to have the U10 engineering ROM, but none of the tools to modify it like all the previous variants.

Well that's disappointing news, I've been back on stock for a while now and due to the age/usage of the phone, wanted to get rerooted to optimize what I can.
I'm on ACSI1 build though, for the curious, if anybody has any ideas or comes across a method to root, please inform me.

I just got my notification for the SI1 update. I don't have much optimism for our rooting future. I am really missing Xposed and the ad blocking capabilities. If I see or hear anything, I'll let you know.

Hey, I did receive another S7 (friends give me old phones because they know I love geeking out) and rooted successfully, so I appreciate the info. Secondly, I noticed a new eng bootloader was uploaded to AFH a few weeks ago, the one we used was rev8, this one being rev10, so I'm going to go ahead and start fresh to see if its any improvement. Just thought I'd share the info, return the favor so to speak, in case you're interested in checking it out. :highfive:
I'll follow up if everything was successful.

Yea, I had rooted with his first few iterations of that thread, which obviously was iffy on whether it was worth having root due to overheating, battery drain, etc etc. The post you mentioned was me wanting to tinker with an extra phone that had been updated beyond what was considered exploitable. And while it's only day 2-3, and not my 'daily driver', I must say, it seems to be considerably more responsive and stable thus far, actually haven't noticed much in terms of drain, lag, or heat like before, so I can definitely recommend it. Obviously, results may very, but following procedure, I flashed stock beforehand, then rooted using instructions to a T, only swapping out the eng boot. Just had a response on the root thread stating he successfully rooted his s7 edge from the latest update (by renaming the eng boot, but honestly, an unnecessary step).
Feel free to let me know how it goes (if you try it out), and good luck! :highfive::good:

I want to give the v10 a try, but I just recently had to reroot due to trying to flash a Dolby Atmos zip that put me into an unrecoverable bootloop. I'm thinking that I'll have to reroot if I flash the eng.boot. I'm too lazy to set up my phone again so soon. Lol. When I do though, I'll let you know.

I feel ya, it becomes a chore at times, but just to update, it's been running smooth as silk for me, again, not my daily driver, but using it frequently enough that I can verify that this has been the smoothest running eng boot setup I've had (and I've had them all). I'm not usually very lucky in that regard, even with the technical know-how to optimize it to it's maximum potential, I'm fairly pleased with it. I dare say it's been comparable to running a standard oem root environment, but I'm hesitant because I'm sure thats when it'll turn around and bite me in the ass lol.

Quick question to the OP. Have you modified this to work with the A2? If not we've been down this road already and there will be consequences if you try to perform a recovery from a backup with this

Glad to have you here and knowing you are willing to lend a hand I just don't wanna see some noobs using this thinking everything is working and end up bricking their phones because right now we have NO way of getting back to stock with a FXZ yet.

Guys as JRW 28 has said.
This has been tried and done with fatal issues. Until nytroglcerin33 gets the official CWM package updated, there is not much I would try with this, we have done backups and restores, as well as attempted a flash or two with NO SUCCESS.
I am not trying to be a pain here, but there are some of us who have been working on these things for almost two months since this phone came out, try a search in the Atrix2 section next time as there is a thread already about this, and until we get the bootloader unlocked we are going to have very limited abilities on this phone to develop, if you want to help out someplace go jump in there.

No worries, that was not aimed at anyone, it was more in genral, so that anyone who reads this sees that this is a very slippery slope right now, we have had at least 2 people that we know of, who bricked their phones using the / a similar method that was in the OP here.

I wouldn't say I have had no success... I'm able to backup and restore system and data using that atrix 2 recovery. In fact, the bionic one worked as well but I only used it a couple of times.
I've been using it to go back and forth between 55.11.16 and 55.13.16, 8 or 9 flashes so far without a brick.
inb4 next flash bricks my phone
I think we should have our moderator swoop in and sticky the important things. It seems were not getting much love from him around here. It's kind of an annoyance to me that topics fall back a page or two then are reintroduced as a new thread a week later. Just saying.

[Q] Would downgrading from the ics soak #2 hard brick or soft brick?

Hello,
Iv'e got a question?
Would downgrading from the soak test hard-brick (white LED) or soft-brick it (fastboot)?
Thanks in advanced,

Currently, you cannot FXZ from the second leak(soak test image). You will hard-brick.

Soft brick, those that have done it, have softbricked with a modified fxz that alteredlikeness and I cooked up, but with any non modified fxz it will be a hard brick for sure.
The issues that we found that caused the hard brick were the CDT.bin and the CDROM files that caused several others to not load, and caused the soft brick, so if you want to look someplace, that is where I would start.
Again one last time Please, we could have handled this through a PM, no need to create ANOTHER new thread, since this really is a dev thing, and not an everyone thing. You have all our user ids and we will answer any direct questions you have, I understand that you may not like me, but there are others.

Depends what you try to downgrade with...
I believe if you use the unmodified 2.3.5/2.3.6 fxz package you will hard brick (white led, no screen).
If you use the modified ones we have for ICS leak#1, you will soft brick (but, it's a pretty firm soft brick, stuck in fastboot). This seems to be true for ATT and HKTW.
That's understanding of it.

I see by your signature, you're quite young. I'm not saying that as an insult or an implication of your limits of abilities, but as you've seen before, you need to go through the 'proper channels' around here so you will be much more well received. I understand you are being very ambitious, and that's great. However, please do just pace yourself and try not jumping the gun with your development. If you take your time, and spend some time collaborating with the established (and well respected) developers here, you will be better off in the long run. You can PM any one of the devs, or anyone else for that matter if you need help along your way. But, again, just focus on being a little less impetuous, and a lot more 'behind the curtain' -that way, when you put something out there to the community, it has been tested/modified/verified by the guys here who have dealt with this device from essentially day one of its release. This is just a suggestion, take it however you see fit...

I was thinking to join to be more behind the curtains and to be part of the developer community.
And I was just parsing some cdt tables and realized that the cdt.bin version needs to be higher in order to downgrade. It's all in the cdt table. So how did this Chinese user do it is the question we need answered in order to downgrade. Did he use the rsa signature from the other file or something?

I just sent you a PM with information.
I think this question is relevant to this thread, so here goes: Jim has been gracious enough to attempt to fix my softbrick because it failed to flash CDT.bin and CDROM. However, I never flashed the second leak, only scv7leak2, and from there the CM10. It was my understanding that you could use a modified FXZ to get back from this, just not the official leak #2. Is this correct, or am I wasting the Jim's time?
I would've sent a PM on this, just figured if answered here it would help others.

Stable S6 ROM

I am new to rooting and flashing custom ROMS. I have an AT&T Galaxy S6 and I want to know what's the cleanest and most stable way I can root this device and install a custom ROM? I have been having issues since I received an over the air update from AT&T, and even when I reboot my phone to factory settings that update still gets pushed through. So my choice now is get a new phone or try a custom ROM and see if that helps.

Due respect, aren't we here to help?
Instead of saying it that way, why don't you guide him through, everyone needed help at the beginning, and you are not an exception.
I have been using the ROM someone linked above (xtrestolite 3.3.1) since I got the phone used several months ago. It's been nearly flawless, almost no lag at all, battery life much better than stock. I tried a couple other roms and had issues almost immediately so I went back to this. I'm sticking with it until after custom roms based on the nougat update come out, so several more months likely.
You can use alexis rom it's very good.with pretty handy feature s like clock position in status bar, network speed indicator, touchwiz launcher gestures etc..

Indeed, you're right in every word you said but to be honest, I was going to message him to help him but something disturbed me and I forgot about the whole case. Apparently, everyday users post something like that, asking for the "best ROM and kernel", I just got tired seeing those posts, in fact, it's the first time I reply to this kind of post. With all my respect, thanks for clarifying your point and opinion.

Exactly haha. Not sure why people are jumping the gun on development for this phone already. My Moto g5 plus took longer than this from its initial release to get development going. And now that phone is very active in the community.
Anyway, point is, just give it some time like this guy said. The phone isn't exactly a flagship anyway. And the Android one version hasn't even been released here yet.

thanks for the comments. how long have you been in the developer scene with HTC. Also nobody is jumping the gun. We aren't allowed to go to devs and ask for eta's so I just made this thread so they may see and hopefully give some love to this phone. All I need is root and a recovery I can do the rest.
Look on the bright side, pixel 2 been out for a month. And even we are slow on development. You'll get root and probably a few roms, it will take time though.
Also the fact that bootloader is unlockable when phone cost less than $400 is kinda big deal

We aren't allowed to go to devs and ask for eta's so I just made this thread so they may see and hopefully give some love to this phone. All I need is root and a recovery I can do the rest.

I could ask you the same question. If you've been in it so long yourself, why don't you figure this problem out yourself? Hah.

Very well put. I only usually get the flagship HTC phones but this time I chose this since it was T-Mobile specific. And I waited to long to get u11 so using this till next HTC flagship comes. I look forward to seeing you around.
HTC phones from my experience don't take too long to get root. They average about a month or so. Keep in mind my last HTC was the EVO LTE.
You don't need a custom recovery for root.
You can use Magisk to patch a stock boot.img for your device (for example, one found here) and flash the patched image via fastboot. Then you're rooted, and you didn't even need TWRP.
I won't be purchasing this device, so unfortunately I can't build a TWRP for it (that and I'm retiring in 8 posts). If someone else wants to pursue building it, I'm willing to offer minimal assistance.

Thanks so much for the info. I'm on to something now. About building it what can I use as a pre-built kernel or will I have to wait for source to drop? Sorry for using your last posts to help us

There's a thread on xda about building TWRP. I've never built TWRP before, but I know about using build environments and whatnot. Google "how to build TWRP" I believe haha, as simple as it sounds it should come up in the top few results.
Anyway, I think you and I should help each other out here like you said. I'm using an older imac since I sold my old PC. It only has 4gb ram, but I'm going to install Ubuntu tomorrow on the Mac as a partition, and then hopefully I can get a build environment going quickly and start work.
What are you doing so far? Are you able to build too? Or maybe we can both research and bounce ideas off each other while I try it out. Whatever you prefer. Just PM me I guess.

I can build I have a great machine and all ready downloaded the source. The only difference in building twrp for a new device is we have to make our own files from scratch. And it would be nice if we had an ruu to restore back from if things don't go well during testing. We can figure it out. Help is always good more people trying different things usually gets results faster.

I read somewhere about an emulator sorta program for testing your TWRP build without messing up your device.

Did you try that magisk rooting (without TWRP) method? I haven't tried it yet.

Happen to know where there may be stock boot.img files for the Life that are free? I don't want to pay for a membership on that site you linked..

that's gonna be the hard part. Finding a boot.Img for T-Mobile version. There's no links to software anywhere that I've seen. We may be stuck waiting for an update just to get the files we need

I'm not giving up I'm still gonna try whatever I can on my end.
Hopefully something good or I'll end up with a bricked device till ruu comes
I would love to eventually see a ROM that gives the T-Mobile variant a similar appeal as the Android One version. I bought the U11 Life as a backup to my Pixel 2 (and to benefit from T-Mobile's Carrier Freedom promo, as well) and I was very surprised as to how much I actually enjoyed using the phone!
Brought me back to the days when I had the One M7.
Just so everyone is aware...... Once you unlock your bootloader you can then go super CID, once you are super CID you can flash ANY GSM boot.img , so there is no roadblock on that end. The roadblock is no custom recovery, if we had a custom recovery then we are open to a world of wonders and amazement. So get to work......

B2 Root? Is root currently still being worked on?

Sorry to post this but havent seen any updates on any types of root lately, being that the Bounty Sampwnd thread is locked. i know that there is root for the Bootloader v1 but havent seen nothing lately on the Bootloader v2. Just curious as to if it is being worked on or forgotten. I know its a big job with Samsung putting its bootloader on super lockdown and i am in no way nagging a dev to rush, was just wondering how it looks or if files are needed or what may be the problem. Thanks.
PS. before a dev comes on here acting crazy, i dont need root, not as of yet, but, i havent seen the question asked lately and i know some people want to know but are afraid to ask haha. So im doing it for them. And Im pretty sure people, well maybe just me, is getting over flashing back to qk5 and to the next oreo update. Flashfire is a Godsend with that type of thing. Thanks
In my limited reading at this S8+ forum for a week, I haven't come across anything on it that seems current.. near as I can tell.

Yeah I guessed that much. Ice been messing around with the files that I have but to no succession as of yet. I will be messaging these guys hopefully if I have time tonight, and see what they can do for us cause it's possible, but, in their thats I haven't seen anyone ask for it. They modify a whole bunch of stuff for you and all you do is install and let them know what happened and if successful you are only allowed to share the finished product by giving them acknowledgement and a link to their site. Well that would mess it up for me hahaha. I'll see what I can do
Good luck.

luck is actually not needed in this process.. There is a developer who actually has had his QK5 rooted. He has been very busy working and said he will surely upload his method when he has free time. at the moment he is releasing the G950U bootloader 2 root. For those of us with rhe G955U will have to wait for a bit as he has to build it for us. Thankfully for him, S8+ has not been forgotten. Unfortunately the bootloader is still locked but thata ok. As long as we have some sort of root.
Will keep this thread updated once i receive confirmation of methods.

podagee,
Thanks for the info.
However, I was using "Good luck" as a colloquial expression, not litereal.

As far as the root for Oreo, not sure if it will stick as of yet. still downloading the Bl and AP from Partcyborg. I was gonna try and make a system only update for it so ill let you know when i get done with it.

Is there another of obtaining root for say like the 2BQL1? Something similar to say SamPwnd or is root only obtained through an AP flash created by You? I ask only because on Christmas Day, I spent my whole morning and afternoon trying to get my phone to actually boot up into it and not sure why but flashed multiple times and couldn't even get stock to boot after continuously trying to get the Samsung account fixed on the Rom provided. But also so we all know that if we wanted to flash say any other bootloader 2 Rom we could have root on any. But in every current event, thank you partcyborg for your dedication, time, and hard work you do for us here in the s8 & s8+ threads.

If you are having flash problems the issue is your USB setup. The most common case is usb3.0 ports that are apparently not compatible with the s8, particularly with large files like the samfail images. If your ports are usb3 switch to usb2 ones and if you don't have one a usb2 hub has been reported to work.
Also try different cables and check your drivers
How does this works and where do I find it?

Yes definitely with partcyborgs Rom. If you were rooted on rev1, I didn't like the first root, you'll be happy with what he has done. Smooth and everything, well almost everything, just works. By far, a better root experience than what we've had.
