is it possible ? it is only transparent in the home screen not when you open apps unfortunately, the reason is that the screen would appear much bigger if it was transparent always, all navigation buttons are still clearly visible even in transparent mode.
the color could be adjusted with :
<color name="nav_background_opaque">#000000</color>
(com.android.systemui/theme.xml)
but I do not know if we can force to be transparant
if anyone has tested ?
I use the "Flat Style Colored Bars" Xposed module to tint my status and nav bars according to the currently running app. Makes Android look more like iOS and also much more "integrated". Give it a try!

XPosed 2.5.1 and Flat Style Colored Bars 1.0.5 (latest version)
Did you activate the module in XPosed and did you reboot afterwards?
I we have the same ver. Installed. I dont know why it wont work for me. I ticked the box to activate it and reboot. I reebooted twice just in case. Did you change your dpi? Bcuz I did.
I found an app. Autohide softkeys... not only it can make the nav bar autohide. You change the buttons, make it transparent and change colors. It really is hidden so it may cause a problem. When youmake it show, it will cover the bottom part of the screen. It wont move the screen up to make space.

Just tried it, what a PITA ... Flat Style Colored Bars is still the best option to get a seamless look imho. But it direly needs an exception list.

You could try this. It can hide, make transparent, change color, change button theme change size too. You can turn off the auto hide by unchecking all of the options.

As far as I know you can only achieve that by reducing the dpi, either globally (for the whole system) or just for the app that controls that status and nav bars, which is System UI. However, when changing the dpi of System UI, the nav bar buttons will veer off to the left instead of staying in the center. That's an unfortunate side-effect of Huawei's heavy skinning.
Apps you can use to change dpi are texdroider dpi (changes global dpi) and App Settings Xposed module, which lets you set the dpi for each app individually. I use 420 dpi (instead of standard 480) globally, and re-set some system apps back to 480 to prevent a mess in the layout ...
Btw there's a whole thread dedicated to this topic somewhere in the Mate 7 forum.

Thank you for your well detailed reply. Im using nova on 380 dpi. I chnaged the sys ui back to 480 but the stat and nav bar are too big. For some reason the dimesion editor on xposed is not working on my phone so i cant change the nav and stat bars. Still finding the sweet spot for my liking. Thanks again.

You can change the color setup of ghe nav bar and buttons. You can have the smallest transparent or colored nav bar you have ever seen. The thing is. It always overlaps the anything that you are in. Try it out to know what i mean. Just needs root.

I have the Battery Bar Pro, latest version from the Play market (v2.0).
I have the option checked to hide the battery bar when the statusbar is hidden (for full screen apps). I am fairly certain this worked a week or two ago when I first upgraded to the Pro version.
However this no longer works. No matter what I do with that option (checked or unchecked) the bar always shows when the statusbar hides.
Phone: Motorola Triumph
Android: 4.0.4 / CM9 alpha 0.6.11.0
Battery Bar Pro version: 2.0
Not sure if this helps or not, but I have the Height set to 2. If I rotate the phone in a fullscreen game, I noticed the bar height changes to 1! Sure enough, if I use 1 as my height then when the phone is rotated it hides the bar properly. It still won't hide in portrait mode though.
I do not have the free version installed.

pvy, any chance on ever adding multicolored battery bar? Like at 100%... it would show green, orange, and red colors at once instead of just green? It would make things more colorful and interesting also a bit of nostalgia for the old Windows Mobile 5 battery bar app. Sorry, I know I have asked this before but not sure if the idea got passed or forgotten or what Eitherway, great work guy!

Thx bro
Is there any difference in battery/cpu resources used between the mod and the app? On the one hand, I already have a crapload of apps and don't wanna add another unless I have to so I'd like to use the mod. On the other hand, I'm lazy when it comes to doing mods like this, so I'd prefer the app. Then again, having another service running sounds like it would consume (some) additional resources so again, I prefer the mod. On the final hand, I'm extremely unlucky when it comes to doing mods like this, so I prefer the app...
I have no idea what's going on...
:thumbup::beer:
Edit: nvm, looks like the app has more features. Free version worked as advertised, getting the paid version, nice work here! Keep it up!
Is there anyway you could maybe add a % left somewhere in the drag down ?

METRO STYLE TRANSPARENT NAVBAR MOD
Hi guys
This mod is for guys who dont like to use the hardware home button much.
I always liked using onscreen nav buttons on note but it had few drawbacks: the bar was huge, pitch black & unsightly, and not so good icons
So here is the mod to make the nav bar more attractive And it really looks awesome
Use it on ur own risk, I am not responsible if ur note explodes
Make a backup before flashing
It will replace all ur themes and icons to stock
The systemui and framework i have used are taken from LSZ, Iworks fine on LT4
WHAT THE MOD HAS
Framework edited to enable navbar
Height of the navbar reduced to 25 dp from default value of 48
Icons changed to metro style
Navbar set to transparent
Optional black navbar
Optional circle battery with transparent notification bar
FLASHING INSTRUCTIONS
Flash in recovery

hi drvijayanand,
i have to say this is a very nice mod! Much nicer compared to the standard navbar you get on stock via build.prop edit.
I do have two questions though:
1. Are you able to modify the arrangement of the buttons too? I ask because I'm left-handed and much prefer the 'back'-button on the left side.
2. Any chances on getting this for XXLT4?
Thanks a bunch,
Pong Lenis

AWAITING A POSITIVE RESPONSE from EXPERTS
regards
where is the files???
file not found
also can you explain how to make navigation bar transparent???
I want to make transparent in other device
About a week or so ago, everything was running fine with my LCD density set to 280 DPI. However, while tinkering with some of the settings, I changed my navigation bar to put the back button to the right of the home button, since I was coming from a Samsung tablet that had the back button to the right by default. Immediately after that, when I put my phone in landscape mode, I could no longer see the navigation buttons at the bottom of the screen. I tried changing back to the stock button config (back button to the left), but it doesn't make a difference. My current workaround is to run at 320 DPI, which puts the nav buttons to the right side of the screen instead of the bottom. I also run the "Application display effect" in reducing mode, so that helps a little, but this still uses a large font in Chrome, for example. My preference would be to just run at 280 DPI to get the nav bar back to the bottom.
Info:
-It's a GEM-703L model.
-I'm using Nova Launcher on the phone.
-I'm rooted, but not using TWRP (another thread for another time)
-I'm running B106 SP1.
Here's what I've done so far:
-Wiped the phone and install B106 from the Huawei recovery. Once I restored all my settings, the same issue came up. I didn't check to see if I used Nova Launcher without applying my settings if everything was fine, as I was in a hurry to get the phone up and running again.
-Tried Apex and stock launchers, same issue.
-Tried various other DPI, but I can only go down to 320. Anything lower and the nav bar disappears in landscape mode.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I assume you are seeing the navigation bar but without buttons in landscape mode.
This used to be a problem in EMUI3.0 for lower dpis. Since EMUI 3.1 came, i see navbar buttons in landscape in all dpis i try as low as 120(just experimented). I am settled at 170(set font=huge).
I can see you mentioned you are on B106sp01. What changes have you made in build.prop or /data/cust/* or local.prop ?
---------- Post added at 07:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:17 PM ----------
btw try this if you have not done so already.
- Set application display effect to standard mode.
- in build.prop add 1 more line 'qemu.sf.lcd_density=xxx' and set ro.sf.lcd_density and hw.lcd_density to xxx.
Thanks for the help. I had the qemu.sf.lcd_density=280 line in my build.prop file, along with the ro.sf.lcd_density set to 280. I had hw.lcd.density still set to 320, so I changed that to 280, but the buttons still didn't appear. You were correct that the navigation bar appears to be there, but there aren't any buttons. Unfortunately, I've still not posted enough to post pics.
Figured out that I could create an album here in xda, so here are the pics.

Sorry - off topic: 9 Dock icons? I have "Nova Launcher" only up to 7 icons. How do? Thanks.
I don't know if it has to do with the dpi, the size I've set to my icons or that I have the paid version, but I have the option of up to 12 dock icons in Nova.
@ajsmsg78, it didn't work. What I ended up doing is set to 320 (all 3 lcd settings) and change the app layout to reduced. That simulates de dpi i want (somewhat) Thanks for your help!

you're probably getting that limit because of DPI. cell phone and tablet options may vary due to that particular setting. if Nova detects that you're running it on a tablet (low DPI) it will allow for more content to be displayed, therefore allowing you to set a higher limit of icons in one row.
just by your picture i can tell you have a cellphone-like/higher DPI because Nova is displaying the menu fully on your screen compared to the same menu in mine that has empty space on the sides between the menu settings and the screen vessel.
try changing the app layout (if you have that option in your ROM) from whatever you have it to 'reduced' (settings > app layout). if you already have it on reduced then look for tutorials on how to change the DPI on your device if that is something you'd like to try.

hey, not a problem. happy new year! and thanks for getting back to me.
So I'm loving the Note 5, but I have a few small issues with it, one being the layout of the status bar.
I'm currently unrooted, but I'm considering rooting again, but before I trip Knox (I might wait until I at least get a chance to try Samsung Pay), I want to know if I can change the following about the status bar?
Change the clock to hide the AM/PM sign, but still be in 12-hour mode
Replace the WiFi and Data icons with the AOSP icons OR
Hide the up/down arrows on the WiFi and data icons
Change the font size of the clock to be smaller
Hide the NFC Icon
Have the bluetooth icon only show up when certain Bluetooth devices are connected
Disable the location icon
Change the Vibrate/Silent icons to the AOSP icons
I know for sure Wanam Xposed can fix the NFC and WiFi data arrow icons, but the rest I'm not sure about at all. I've been searching around for a while, but i'm not able to find anything easily.
Thanks for all the help.

Wanam is one of my favorites but there is also xblast tools and xuimod that have a ton of really cool customization feature plus status bar tweaks. There is another one specifically for the status bar and I can't remember the name. If I think of it I'll post it. Not sure if the clear app defaults dialog module works on the Note 5 but it's a good one. Removes that annoying default app pop up.

Bottom line bud.. You can pretty much do all of the above, but you will need to be rooted, custom rom and xposed to get it all. [emoji106]

So I am on stock OKC, rooted with TWRP and I don't know all that much about xposed. Can I simply flash it to have the customization options mentioned here, or do I have to be using a custom rom?

As long as your rooted, xposed should work. Here is the xposed link.

I couldn't get the flat style bar indicators to work. I installed the latest version, but there was no module to enable, even after rebooting.

It was my mistake. I downloaded it, but didn't see the option to install it. I'm already considering paying for the pro features because the icons that aren't flat are a total eye sore.
Using wanam and flat style status bar indicators.
Thanks for all the replies and help guys.
I'm going to wait a little bit before rooting to see how long it takes Discover to support Samsung Pay (so I can show off at least once), and then do it.
Any way to disable navigation bar and use only navigation gestures?

Yes there is. The first thing I did when I got my S9+.. First, use adb to turn the nav bars to immersive mode. That will hide them but you can still swipe up. To completely get rid off them , you need Substratum+Andromeda+Samsung System Mods theme. Go to the theme and there is an option to remove them completely under System UI. The remove option requires the immersive mode first. Make sure you have your gestures navigation working prior to remiving the Nav Bars. I use Edge Gesture myself and it works great.

works like a charm, i'm using all in one gestures. default launcher has an issue though, the homescreen and app drawer won't stretch, also the keyboard brings up a blank bar.
also, is the launcher mod for removing the page indicator working for you?
How do you setup gestures, sorry for hijacking the thread

I use Nova. Dumped the default launcher because of the Oreo crappy notifications with Samsung Launcher along with the gap space when removing the Nav Bars.

Are you guy still interested in remove navigation bar
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9/how-to/remove-replace-navigation-bar-t3813885/post77020140#post77020140
The best way for me so far
I tried almost all app to remove and replace the navigation bar for my Samsung S9 but all of them facing serval crop screen and app UI issue. For example Samsung Internet new tabs alignment, Crop grey backgound when windows popping up (I will attache screenshot below.)
And now I think I found the best way so far to fix all these issue
- "Oneplus Gestures" is best one for me for the alternative app to replace the navigation bar because not like others, the pill of this app is always at the bottom (not shift) and it work on overlays app (ex: FB messenger)
- "Hide Nav Bar" is the app that I choose to remove the native nav bar but for now it has some issue which cropping some app and I have solution for that. You have to enable global immersive mode then exclude the apps that cropped. So far I found these apps need to exclude: Smart Capture, Edge Widget, Instagram, Gallery. By filter immersive mode for these app you could use "Immersive Mode Manager" app or just write this adb command
Code:
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.navigation=apps,-com.samsung.android.app.smartcapture,-com.samsung.android.app.widgetedge,-com.instagram.android,-com.sec.android.gallery3d
- Not finish yet, the fix other UI issue (Samsung Internet, Gallery) you need to use "Routines" app belong to Good Lock 2018 app to use Samsung Hide Nav Bar for Samsung Internet and Gallery app.
Then enjoy your edge to edge screen with gesture navigation. This work around fix all my issue when remove and replace navigation bar on my S9. If you find other issue feel free to discuss.

I want to thank you a lot for your post! The combination of these 2 apps works great!
Same here. I have been using one plus gestures and hide navbar for over a month now and I love it! I am so used to it that I can't go back to the navbar!! It is the best way to enjoy all the beautiful screen of our s9+
