So I'm loving the Note 5, but I have a few small issues with it, one being the layout of the status bar.
I'm currently unrooted, but I'm considering rooting again, but before I trip Knox (I might wait until I at least get a chance to try Samsung Pay), I want to know if I can change the following about the status bar?
Change the clock to hide the AM/PM sign, but still be in 12-hour mode
Replace the WiFi and Data icons with the AOSP icons OR
Hide the up/down arrows on the WiFi and data icons
Change the font size of the clock to be smaller
Hide the NFC Icon
Have the bluetooth icon only show up when certain Bluetooth devices are connected
Disable the location icon
Change the Vibrate/Silent icons to the AOSP icons
I know for sure Wanam Xposed can fix the NFC and WiFi data arrow icons, but the rest I'm not sure about at all. I've been searching around for a while, but i'm not able to find anything easily.
Thanks for all the help.

Wanam is one of my favorites but there is also xblast tools and xuimod that have a ton of really cool customization feature plus status bar tweaks. There is another one specifically for the status bar and I can't remember the name. If I think of it I'll post it. Not sure if the clear app defaults dialog module works on the Note 5 but it's a good one. Removes that annoying default app pop up.

It was my mistake. I downloaded it, but didn't see the option to install it. I'm already considering paying for the pro features because the icons that aren't flat are a total eye sore.
Using wanam and flat style status bar indicators.
Thanks for all the replies and help guys.
I'm going to wait a little bit before rooting to see how long it takes Discover to support Samsung Pay (so I can show off at least once), and then do it.

Hi all,
To keep people from inventing the wheel while others already went there before, I decided to create this topic, to share Xposed experiences on the Z1.
Let me kick off with my test results:
Bootmanager 1.3.5 (thanks DAddYE and POWER1FM)
Various results... it works for some apps, for others it doesn't. But it does appear to overheat the phone.
Gravitybox 2.7.1
Most of the mods in this package work.
Not working (could be that there are more options, but I'm sure these don't work:
Statusbar transparency
Lockbar transparency
These need additional modules to work:
Statusbar flip settings mods (you need Xperia Flip Settings for that to work)
Greenify 1.95
Works as specified.
Gxmod extender 4.2.3 (thanks to gregbradley)
Causes systemUI crashes after the latest update.
Hide Stamina Mode Icon 1.1
Works as specified. Be sure to reboot.
NotifyClean 1.3.2 (thanks to Frank_B)
Works perfect and you can hide the nerving GPS Icon.
Swap volume Keys 0.3
Works as specified.
Tinted status bar (thanks to crimsonm)
Makes the statusbar transparent in Nova Launcher.
Xperia Flip Settings 1.1
Works as specified. Use Gravitybox to tune the flip settings area to your own taste.
Xposed Additions (thanks to slonn)
Works as specified. Remapping the hardware buttons. Can be used to wake the phone with the volume buttons.
Z1 Camera Tweaks (thanks to slonn)
Works as specified. Can be used for faster opening camera using the specified cam button.
Feel free to add your experiences! I will keep my post up to date when there's something to update. Please keep the topic clean, don't ask any questions about XPosed framework itself, just keep this topic as a reference.
Find Information and ask questions about Xposed Framework here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401
Most modules can be found through the download feature inside Xposed framework.
NotifyClean 1.3.2
works perfect and you can hide the nerving GPS Icon
Xposed Additions - for remapping the hardware buttons. I use it to wake the phone with the volume buttons.
Z1 Camera Tweaks - for faster opening camera using the specified cam button.
Bootmanager's fastboot option extremely overheats my device.
Where can I download these?
deleted
Bootmanager doesn't work really with me, I mean no errors at all but I tried to put some apps, like *clean master* but it keep starting at boot. Then; there are many apps that starts on boot but they are not recognized.
Anyone try HaloNotification modules? It makes the z1 slower?
@Chillout
Mate, if you could add all that mods, modules and Xposed apk here - it would be awesome.
Tnx mate

I won't add mods, because there's the 'download' feature in Xposed framework. But I will put up a reference to the Xposed topic/download.
Also, I will update the main topic, because the Bootmanager seems to drive my Z1 hot as well...

I can change framework via Xposed but just won't make my status and nav bar transparent?!?

here is the file i used to make transparent back at my computer now. needs to be flashed in recovery usual make a backup etc etc
is it possible ? it is only transparent in the home screen not when you open apps unfortunately, the reason is that the screen would appear much bigger if it was transparent always, all navigation buttons are still clearly visible even in transparent mode.
the color could be adjusted with :
<color name="nav_background_opaque">#000000</color>
(com.android.systemui/theme.xml)
but I do not know if we can force to be transparant
if anyone has tested ?
I use the "Flat Style Colored Bars" Xposed module to tint my status and nav bars according to the currently running app. Makes Android look more like iOS and also much more "integrated". Give it a try!

XPosed 2.5.1 and Flat Style Colored Bars 1.0.5 (latest version)
Did you activate the module in XPosed and did you reboot afterwards?
I we have the same ver. Installed. I dont know why it wont work for me. I ticked the box to activate it and reboot. I reebooted twice just in case. Did you change your dpi? Bcuz I did.
I found an app. Autohide softkeys... not only it can make the nav bar autohide. You change the buttons, make it transparent and change colors. It really is hidden so it may cause a problem. When youmake it show, it will cover the bottom part of the screen. It wont move the screen up to make space.

You could try this. It can hide, make transparent, change color, change button theme change size too. You can turn off the auto hide by unchecking all of the options.

As far as I know you can only achieve that by reducing the dpi, either globally (for the whole system) or just for the app that controls that status and nav bars, which is System UI. However, when changing the dpi of System UI, the nav bar buttons will veer off to the left instead of staying in the center. That's an unfortunate side-effect of Huawei's heavy skinning.
Apps you can use to change dpi are texdroider dpi (changes global dpi) and App Settings Xposed module, which lets you set the dpi for each app individually. I use 420 dpi (instead of standard 480) globally, and re-set some system apps back to 480 to prevent a mess in the layout ...
Btw there's a whole thread dedicated to this topic somewhere in the Mate 7 forum.

Thank you for your well detailed reply. Im using nova on 380 dpi. I chnaged the sys ui back to 480 but the stat and nav bar are too big. For some reason the dimesion editor on xposed is not working on my phone so i cant change the nav and stat bars. Still finding the sweet spot for my liking. Thanks again.

You can change the color setup of ghe nav bar and buttons. You can have the smallest transparent or colored nav bar you have ever seen. The thing is. It always overlaps the anything that you are in. Try it out to know what i mean. Just needs root.

I have modified the Galaxy S6 SystemUI so that you can add custom toggles in the quick settings. For some reason Samsung went away from using the toggle icon png files that are located in the drawables (other than the "off" toggle).
You will need to install the 3 minit apk first in order to flash this first one because it has the 3 minit battery built in to it. The custom toggles I put into this download is Bobcat's theme from the Galaxy S4. Here's his thread. He does great work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2372902
If you want to add your own toggles you will need to rename the "on" icons as "off" because the off icon is all that is being used.
Example: tw_quick_setting_icon_wifi_on.png needs to be tw_quick_panel_icon_off.png. When the icon is off it will be dimmed so you can tell the difference between the two.
Flash at your own risk. I am not responsible for anything bad that might happen to your phone. Do a backup first. I'll be adding some without the 3minit battery and a couple with different colored backgrounds.
This works on odexed roms as well. Make sure you have a root explorer installed. After flashing you will not have a status bar or toggles. Go into system/priv-app/SystemUI/arm folder. Delete the two odex files then reboot. All should be good.
Flash this 3minit apk first or your SystemUI will force close.

I like the clock on the right side of the notification bar and I don't really want the internet speed.

Yes! This is perfect, thank you so much! It's a really clean look too that goes hard
Flash in TWRP.
This Aroma has all the mods from my normal Aroma but there is one last step. Like the other, you must flash one of the bases at the bottom of the Aroma first. One is stock WiFi-Dara icons, one includes traffic up-down arrows. Then flash any other mods you may like in any order. When done, flash the very first option which is the Magisk Module Maker. It will make a zip in a folder on your sdcard called magisk.zip. After you back out of the Aroma, go to that folder and flash that zip and reboot. I did notice that QS background doesn't play nicely with live wallpapers though that might be semi-transparent only.
The Aroma comes with the following options:
Comes in all bases
Full systemui tuner
Invisible Power button on far right side of Statusbar
Full 4 way rotation
4 column QS tiles
OPTIONAL WiFi-Data up-down arrows
Options
Clock positions and formats
Navbar height adjustment
Navbar Remover
Enabled stock WiFi-Data in-out arrows
3 Minit battery
Rainbow Battery
Battery percent on AOD
One Percent Battery Mod with 7 different batteries
Colored statusbar icons
Colored Navbar Icons
Colored Traffic speed meter up over down or separately. Up and down can be different colors.
Colored Notification Backgrounds
Colored Notification Text
Colored QS backgrounds
Colored QS text
Navbar swap of back and recents
Old Nexus statusbar icons option
Navbar remover (completely) 3,4,5,6,7 column QS options
Invisible power menu button in far right hand corner of statusbar. Tap closes the screen, long press brings up the power button menu. Now this option can go either, and, or on the NavBar too.
The 3 Column QS option is a mod. Flash a base first, then 3 Column. There are now mods for 5, 6, or 7 column QS.
If you want Navbar gone, flash the one that matches your Navbar height. Base is 36 dip. There are 3,4,5,6,7 QS column options for Navbar gone. (There is an option near the bottom for putting an invisible Home button on the left side of statusbar for those times when LMT or other 3rd party navbars don't kick in for whatever reason). Then can select other mods.
I don't know a much about Magisk but this evil themer-Magisk combo was made by djb77 at this thread:

@Tulsadiver what does full SystemUI tuner mean? Is that like how some custom ROMs used to expose every icon so you could hide them? Including the ones like the VPN key that you normally can't hide on stock?

I believe normally you get statusbar and do not disturb
I'm not seeing full systemUI tuner as an option in this aroma when I flash it

It isn't an option. It is included in the bases.
Ah, my bad! thanks again for putting this together. It's working great!
One last question is there a way to increase the padding on the left side of the screen? When I pull my notifications down all the text and icons are a few pixels away from the edge of the screen instead of having the same padding as the notifications on the status bar.

I uploaded a new one with additional padding.
Perfect! It looks great. Thanks again for your help.
March update had been uploaded.
My February mods carried over after running the image install without the -w flag for some reason.

How did you change your font to that and may I ask what font is it?

It's the Google product sans font. There's a magisk module for it. The only issue is the colon on AOD turns into a square in the time.
Ja
Can't seem to get module to install, keep getting failed installation. Here's the log.

Try something for me. Unzip the aroma. Go to Magisk folder. Delete the config.sh file. Zip back up and try again. If you aren't comfortable doing that I'll do it. Give me a bit.

Yes there is. The first thing I did when I got my S9+.. First, use adb to turn the nav bars to immersive mode. That will hide them but you can still swipe up. To completely get rid off them , you need Substratum+Andromeda+Samsung System Mods theme. Go to the theme and there is an option to remove them completely under System UI. The remove option requires the immersive mode first. Make sure you have your gestures navigation working prior to remiving the Nav Bars. I use Edge Gesture myself and it works great.

works like a charm, i'm using all in one gestures. default launcher has an issue though, the homescreen and app drawer won't stretch, also the keyboard brings up a blank bar.
also, is the launcher mod for removing the page indicator working for you?
How do you setup gestures, sorry for hijacking the thread

I use Nova. Dumped the default launcher because of the Oreo crappy notifications with Samsung Launcher along with the gap space when removing the Nav Bars.

Are you guy still interested in remove navigation bar
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9/how-to/remove-replace-navigation-bar-t3813885/post77020140#post77020140
The best way for me so far
I tried almost all app to remove and replace the navigation bar for my Samsung S9 but all of them facing serval crop screen and app UI issue. For example Samsung Internet new tabs alignment, Crop grey backgound when windows popping up (I will attache screenshot below.)
And now I think I found the best way so far to fix all these issue
- "Oneplus Gestures" is best one for me for the alternative app to replace the navigation bar because not like others, the pill of this app is always at the bottom (not shift) and it work on overlays app (ex: FB messenger)
- "Hide Nav Bar" is the app that I choose to remove the native nav bar but for now it has some issue which cropping some app and I have solution for that. You have to enable global immersive mode then exclude the apps that cropped. So far I found these apps need to exclude: Smart Capture, Edge Widget, Instagram, Gallery. By filter immersive mode for these app you could use "Immersive Mode Manager" app or just write this adb command
Code:
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.navigation=apps,-com.samsung.android.app.smartcapture,-com.samsung.android.app.widgetedge,-com.instagram.android,-com.sec.android.gallery3d
- Not finish yet, the fix other UI issue (Samsung Internet, Gallery) you need to use "Routines" app belong to Good Lock 2018 app to use Samsung Hide Nav Bar for Samsung Internet and Gallery app.
Then enjoy your edge to edge screen with gesture navigation. This work around fix all my issue when remove and replace navigation bar on my S9. If you find other issue feel free to discuss.

I want to thank you a lot for your post! The combination of these 2 apps works great!
Same here. I have been using one plus gestures and hide navbar for over a month now and I love it! I am so used to it that I can't go back to the navbar!! It is the best way to enjoy all the beautiful screen of our s9+
