[Q] Issues with Gallery(accidentally deleted stock app) - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Have rooted device(5.0.1 stock) and made the sad mistake of deleting the google photos app accidentally. I have tried a few different ways an could not restore it. Downloaded a few other gallery apps and I am having issues with them also, the error "android.database.sqlite.SQLiteCantOpenDedatabaseException:unknown error (code 14): Could not open database" keeps coming up and I believe it is tied to this. Anyone know how to go about fixing this? Or how I can get the Google Photos app? tried adb sideload for GAAPS and that didn't work.
It would be preferable that I didn't have to reflash the rom.
Thanks in advanced!

If you are on stock, you can flash the factory image without losing data...
Just delete the -w flag from the script.
use fastboot update image.zip
with fastboot -w update image.zip it would wipe your data, without -w it keeps your data
see: http://www.howtogeek.com/176284/how...-without-waiting-by-flashing-a-factory-image/
hope this helps, cheers

You need the apps, that you removed and install them via root explorer.

Even if he talk about reflashing, this is better option, because you don't have to look for system dump and study which apps you have to install to fix things up.

I ended up reflashing it thanks. Even with the google photos app on my phone i'm still getting the error "android.database.sqlite.SQLiteCantOpenDedatabaseE xception:unknown error (code 14): Could not open database" do you know what could be causing this?

I think that you have fo flash again, but this time wipe your data too. In some cases also data partition can cause problems.

If that is the data containing them, then you have a chance. Try factory resetting and formatting all partitions, reflash your rom and restore that data img. Make sure the rom you flash is the same one were on.

If the backup was done at the time you had the messages, they should be in the data img. Reflashing the rom and restoring the data will bring them back (if they are in it). Your apps, settings, etc. will also be brought back.
i m wondering if the img is incomplete though...because it had stopped not in data.img but i think in system or something else....anyway to solve md5 mismatch?
what are my steps from now on(except from praying messages to be in there..)

Try formatting your data partition then use "Advanced Restore" to restore it. I was referring to the folder - Did you rename the folder which the file is in?

[Q] Whtsapp stopped working and now throwing unknown errors

Hi everyone,
I have been using my nexus 5 since 4-5 days now and everything was working fine till last night when whatsapp started giving me errors (unfortunately app has been closed). I uninstalled whatsapp and when I am trying to re install it, its now giving me error "unknown error code on application install -24"
I have tried installing via apk, playstore's website, cleared the cache and data of playstore app, rebooted phone but nothing works.
I am hesitant to root my nexus 5 as there is no official recovery available and people are having issues when rooting the device and I cannot afford to have an unstable phone. Hard reset is an option but I would like to avoid it if possible. I have read that if I delete the related whatsapp folder from data/data folder somehow then it will fix the issue. Is there any way I could access and delete that folder without being rooted or if someone has any other solution to my problem.
Any help is much appreciated

Same thing happened to me, Did you enable ART? Because that's what caused my errors (force closing). After switching back to Dalvik and trying to re-install, i was getting -24 error on the play store. I rebooted a few times and left it for a few hours. Tried again and it worked.
Whatsapp is i believe in-compatible with ART.

Okay, As for as i know, it did fix itself when i rebooted a few times and after a while it just worked.
Things i also tried that might have helped. Clear cache for the playstore which you tried. i would do this again after you switched back to Dalvik. and make sure whatsapp is uninstalled before switching to Dalvik. Once you switch back and have cleared cache from the playstore, try to re-install Whatsapp.
As for the backup, on your phone is a whatsapp folder that has a backup of your messages and photos etc. When you re-install whatsapp it'll pick that up and restore your stuff. There is no need to delete that folder.
I Hope that fixes it for you.

Right so far thats what i did, and thats exactly what happened to me. I just left it for a few hours and tried again it worked. Just give it a few hours and re-try / reboot and re-try.
It didnt work. I had to factory reset my phone eventually and wasted my evening doing all the restores, I wish Android had a seamless backup system something like that of Apple's. Helium/Titanium/mybackup, all of them have some kind of flaws

I am not rooted at the moment so TB wasnt really an option. Helium works fine only for apps and their data but I am looking for something that can restore my phone exactly how it was before the reset including home screens, settings etc without being rooted.

That what you are looking for would be a nandroid backup made in a custom recovery, that restores everything. But not possible without root.
Hi,
I have the same problem. Error -24 if I want to install Whatsapp from Google Play Store. Local installation after downloading the APK from Whatsapp gives also an error (app not installed).
Tried several times to delete the cache and setting of the Play Store app and the Google Framework. Followed by restarts of the phone. Until now I was NOT succesful.
As far as I read on other forums, the problem is, that in data/data/ already exists a Whatsapp-directory and therefore Whatsapp doesn't want to install. You could delete this directory, but only if you are rooted. I avoided this step until now, because it's a new phone with warranty and after rooting, all data ist wiped.
I also tried adb to delete this directory, but same effect. Because the phone is not rooted, I can't remove this directory by remote shell.
Is there no way to clean up such remains WITHOUT root?

[Q] Cancelling In-Progress OTA Updates?

Hello, all!
I'm wondering, how do you cancel an OTA update once it has started? I mean after it has downloaded, and you have chosen to install it.
Here's my problem: Everyone talks about how running an OTA update unroots your phone. No problem, I can just re-root it. What no one talks about (at least I didn't run across it before doing this) is installing OTA updates when you have TWRP installed...
So, my phone downloaded the update, and it asked me to install it. I accepted, it restarted, and TWRP came up. From there, nothing happened. I tried restarting it, and it booted up just fine. After about a minute of being up, the "Phone is shutting down" (or something along those lines) message pops up, and it reboots again.
I'm wondering, how do I go about cancelling the update? I've read online I need to download the update manually and run it through TWRP, but until I learn how to do that (and spend a few hours downloading it on this freaking slow internet connection), I would like to be able to use my phone.
Another alternative that I don't know whether is possible, can I somehow use TWRP to browse to where the OTA update was downloaded to, and install it through there? If so, what would the procedure be for doing so?
Thanks!

Boot into TWRP, click install, click(Up A Level) until you are at "/" and look in the cache folder for the update zip.
It should be in there.

Is it the "Blur_Version21.23.4.peregrine_retus.retus.en.US.zip" file? If so, that didn't work... Unfortunately it failed.
Here's what it said just before failing:
Verifying current system...
"/system/bin/debuggerd" has unexpected contents.
E: Error executing updater binary in zip '/cache/..."
Error flashing zip '/cache/..."
Updating partition details...
Any ideas?
Thanks!

You must have stickmount installed. Uninstall it and try again.
Note: If you changed or deleted anything in /system partition the install will keep failing. You'd have to fastboot flash the system img's from the 4.4.3 firmware.

Nope, Stickmount is not installed. Not sure what other apps there are that could cause this.
Not sure whether I've changed anything in /system... I don't believe I have, but an app I installed very much could have.
I'll look up this "fastboot flash" you are referring to.
Anyway, for now I am good. I copied the .zip OTA downloaded file to another location, hit the "clear dalvik and cache," rebooted, and I'm back to a working 4.4.3.
Problem solved until I decide to try to get 4.4.4 installed! (which I may never end up doing... Now that Cyanogenmod is officially out for Peregrine, I'm probably going to flash it with that when it gets stable enough (i.e. no RAM issues)).

Link2SD completely messed up my phone

Alright guys I'm about to blow my top off here. The most recent Link2SD update completely messed up my entire phone.
For reference, I'm currently running an LG G3 D851 4.4.2, stock ROM and rooted. Everything was fine until recently when I started noticing a Play Store update app error "-110".
Not knowing what it was, I investigated, and found that my entire group of app installations have been completely screwed up.
1) First off, I can't install ANYTHING. No app, no nothing. I need to probably install an updated Link2SD to fix this nonsense...right? Can anyone direct me to how I would install the apk using ADB?
2) My mount script is broken and it's not working. It tells me "Mount script cannot be created. mount: Unknown error 150". As a result, my SD 2nd partition remains unmounted....which I think is the source of this entire problem.
3) Viewing my internal storage through DiskUsage, I've discovered that every single app I used to have installed has been "merged" into a single folder simply called "System data". Referenced through this photo here: http://i.imgur.com/ksukQGG.png . Instead of showing the individual folders, e.g.: Google Translate, Pocketcasts, etc, it just shows that big anonymous block of "System Data".
4) If I go to Settings -> Apps. Every single app shows up with "0.00b" as their app size.
HELPPPPP PLEASEEEE I will seriously monetarily tip someone if they can provide me with a solution to this.

Thank you so much for the detailed response. Unfortunately though, it looks like I already have the most recent version installed, 4.0.9? Would this solve anything by basically reinstalling it? I was hoping there would be like a 4.1 version that would fix the issue or revert changes or something.
Update:
Tried installing an app through ADB and it now shows me this:

Any idea anybody? Like before, I'd be willing to donate to anybody who can provide me with the solution. Thanks!

I can uninstall apps, but I can't install or update anything. That's why I was trying to install through adb instead, which unfortunately still doesn't work. When I open up Link2SD, it doesn't give me an option to reload, it only gives me the option to "Recreate mount scripts". If I click on it, it gives me the mount script error - "Mount script cannot be created. mount: Unknown error 150."

Is there any really important data on your installed apps? If I was you I would simply reflash the firmware and start from scratch instead of spending hours to find a solution. The point is that you don't know what you changed that your phone became like this. I have send a email to the Link2SD developer but I'm not sure if he can provide a solution.

I'm actually backing up all my app data as I'm typing this. The only concern I have though, is that my phone is actually on the stock recovery. I only rooted it because I didn't want to deal with the potential for something like this to happen (which would suck up all my time, haha). As a result, I can't flash anything. So if I decide to stock factory reset, would that clean the /system /data, and everything else that needs to be cleaned for my phone to work properly again? I thought that root (and potentially whatever screwed my phone) persisted through a stock factory reset, which would make trying to do that pointless.

I thought that root (and potentially whatever screwed my phone) persisted through a stock factory reset, which would make trying to do that pointless.

I really don't know, if your root survives a factory reset. Probably it will. A custom recovery is really usefull as you can make complete nandroid backups

I suppose so, I'll have to make sure I can flash it properly though considering I'm finding it impossible to install apps right now. This is getting to be highly frustrating

Any progress here? Developer has answered my mail, but not offered any solution yet

Well, I solved the mount problem by formatting my SD card. But that didn't fix anything else unfortunately.
I also noticed a couple interesting things:
1) Android and Link2SD show my data and cache for ALL apps to be 0.00b. I know that's not true because I went to the /data/data/app directories and found the data exists.
2) I can use all my apps normally with no problem. that means all the files are there, and can communicate correctly(?)
3) I still can't install any app at all.
Next course of action: Completely disable link2sd's boot script perhaps? So what would that entail, deleting install-recovery.sh from /system/etc/ ? Anything else, or would that be good enough?

Deteled some system apps, now stuck in a bootloop

It is just as the title states. I would like to somehow fix my phone instead of just recovering.
I can still access twrp, and the app(https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jumobile.manager.systemapp) is used to create it with has created some backup files that i can still access. Is there still hope?

If you have some idea which apps you uninstalled then you can put them back in the right directory/folder, the app you used probably created a folder to backup them anyway for the next this app is not recommended to use it blindly; it doesn´t have a good criteria to determine what´s important and what´s not.
Or you can flash only the system image and after that wipe caches, reboot.

Yes, there are some apps on PlayStore that can do that but you can´t boot right now to use it, probably you can take some logs through adb while in TWRP, check this https://github.com/IzzySoft/Adebar
The app you used creates a folder in the SDCard, probably it keeps the apps there, if you have TWRP you can navigate to it and you´ll find them.
the app has created an xyz.apk.backup can i just use adb install, or should i do something different?
hmm, i think just reflashing the system image would be easier. So should i just reflash the lineageos.zip?

Yes, the first is identify the apps and then you can install them using adb through TWRP or copying the app to the folder where it was previosuly.

What´s inside the LOS zip? And what exactly didn´t work?
it's just the zip i used when installing the custom rom. i can send the file if you wnat.
META-INF/com/android/metadata
system.new.dat.br
system.patch.dat
vendor.new.dat.br
vendor.patch.dat
META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary
META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script
boot.img
install/bin/backuptool.functions
install/bin/backuptool.sh
system.transfer.list
vendor.transfer.list
META-INF/com/android/otacert
i was still inside a boot loop

It could work if you do it correctly:
- Wipe system, caches and data (not format)
- Flash the LOS zip.
- Flash the GApps (if you had previously Google apps on it)
- Reboot.
it worked, thank you very much. Is there a way to restore my phone to its previous state? i made a twrp backup just in case

Great, you can restore it just at the same time you did take the backup, if at the moment that this happened you didn´t take a backup of course you can´t anyway if you had some apps synchronizing with the cloud then this will be the only way. It works similarly as Windows (or Linux distros) also work if you have some idea from.
