[Q] desperately need for help..recover system files on p500..recover user data.. - General Questions and Answers

hello guys..sorry for my terrible English..I desperately need your help and maybe only you can help me..Yesterday i tried to install an app from googleplay to my p500 and all started going wrong..i couldnt start it..it was looping on cyanogen boot screen..i have read an internet solution that suggested me to flash rom via adb shell..but it couldnt work(luckily because i think that it would wipe my data forever)somehow i thought to connect it via usb to my pc..and it did start..but all of my sms messages(threads had gone).all the other files and settings where ok..but now threads...from that time i tried to recover them somehow..the problem is that now i m again on the boot screen and it will not startup...is there any way to recover files via clockworkmod?or anything else?please help me...

If you didn't make a backup, there is no way to restore them.

If that is the data containing them, then you have a chance. Try factory resetting and formatting all partitions, reflash your rom and restore that data img. Make sure the rom you flash is the same one were on.

so to be crystal clear..there isnt any way, even a paid solution to recover them...right?i have to create a custom rom install?oh,God i have no idea...
why all the other settings AND files keep as i had them?phone contacts,images,themes..only this sms threads...
and another thing..how can i restore them without reflash the rom?to keep apps..

also clockworkmod recovery gives me a bad boot message "recovery" any ideas what does that mean?

If the backup was done at the time you had the messages, they should be in the data img. Reflashing the rom and restoring the data will bring them back (if they are in it). Your apps, settings, etc. will also be brought back.

i m wondering if the img is incomplete though...because it had stopped not in data.img but i think in system or something else....anyway to solve md5 mismatch?
what are my steps from now on(except from praying messages to be in there..)

Try formatting your data partition then use "Advanced Restore" to restore it. I was referring to the folder - Did you rename the folder which the file is in?

I don't think it will work as I think you have a corruption somewhere, but if you really need the data have a go anyway. Let me know how you get on.

[Q] Error while restoring nandroid of old GS3 to new replacement GS3

I got a replacement GS3 from Verizon because my current one had a charge port issue. I rooted and am using CWM 6.0.2.3 and get "error while restoring /system" when I try tp restore the nandroid of my old phone to the new one. How do I fix this?
Did you change the name of the nandroid at all? It's also possible that the backup you made contained individual phone information specific to your old phone...I seem to remember a thread before that mentioned it wasn't a good idea to move a nandroid to a new Samsung phone.
Edit: I found the thread shortly after hitting submit - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1795031

there are a couple of apps where you can just extract the nandroid apps on the play store, but if you want the full restore, the file is probably corrupted.

Yeah I used to use titanium backup but my phone is very customized, CM10, diff kernel, and a very highly customized home screen so I'd rather restore the nandroid if there is some kind of workaround. I also want all my data, texts, etc. without using titanium backup. When I used ti backup in the past, I had a bunch of different issues restoring apps and data, force closes, etc.

I followed the directions in the last post of that thread.. I made a backup of the new phone, moved the old nandroid from old phone to the twrp back up folder in my new phone. I copied the new backup name and deleted the new backup. i pasted the name into the old back up, I tried to restore and i get an error "no partitions selected for restore. Is it because Im using twrp and I made the old backup with CWM?

TWRP Failed to make backup folder

Today I was trying to back everything up because I needed to do a clean install. I used to have CMW, and it would work perfectly. Few days ago I switch to TWRP because of its friendly UI. Everytime I try to make a backup, I get this "Failed to make backup folder". When I go to the mount tab, or explorer, it shows my sd card and the folder named TWRP...is there any solution to this? Or should I switch back to cmw?
Thanks

If you're using the version of TWRP modified to work with SELinux (needed for KitKat 4.4.x ROMs) you may need to shorten the name of the target file before starting the backup.

Thanks a lot!! that fixed my problem. One more question: TWRP backups dont have the boot.img file in their folders. I read that it automatically flashes the boot.img when Im restoring the backup. Will it still flash it even though Im s-on?
Thanks

TWRP should backup your /boot partition to the boot.emmc.win file. As far as I know it should also be able to restore this, even if you are S-On. However, I am not positive about that

TWRP Restore Error 255

Hi, I'm restoring from a nandroid backup but once it starts restoring data it fails with error 255. I have no 999 files, and ran the steps here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/how-to/255-error-twrp-backup-restore-999-t3801632 to remove 999 folders (it didn't work but I looked in those folders and saw no 999 folders) and have NEVER used Paralell Apps.
Is the backup salvageable?

No, because I was on the P beta, but wiped everything including system. I tested a restore with everything else except data and it worked, just data failes, and recovery.log says "==> extracting: //data/reserve-lib/com.oneplus.soundrecorder/ (mode 40755, directory)
tar_extract_file(): failed to extract //data/reserve-lib/com.oneplus.soundrecorder/ !!!" so I'm assuming that's the issue, but I don't think there's any way to edit nandroid backup files like a filesystem, is there?
Edit: So I made the data backup into a .tar file and I can see the offending folder, but can't delete it from within WinRar, but I can make it a folder and delete it. Once I have that, how do I make it back into a .win000 file?

Yea I editited it saying I did that, but can't figure out how to make it back into .win000. I guess I will just transfer it onto the phone, backup that and then restore (as just transfering will probably mess something up)
i'm having hte same problem , i never used parallel apps and i'm getting the same error on a restore for no freaking reason!
I need to restore so badly, i can get into OS just fine now but i didn't backup my apps prior to doing the wipe after the backup.. any ideas please?

Did you get this working? I'm not very good with TWRP yet so I don't know all the lingo, but I too made a backup and receive the error 255 when trying to restore using TWRP. When I restored the backup and unchecked data like you mentioned, it finishes without error but get this error "Your device is corrupt. It can’t be trusted and may not work properly" when I try to boot it. Restoring the backup without the data box checked still doesn't restore everything obviously. I'd like to restore the data too. Did you get it all working to where you can restore all?

So I edited the backup and removed the offending files and then put the file back into the backup but that didn't work because I guess it broke the signature or something but it wouldn't restore data at all once I edited it. Idk.
I just don't bother with backups anymore, too much of a hassle haha, and it makes no sense why it fails, since I have no parallel apps or anything
Thanks very much for the response and info! No backup at all? Bummer. I've tried to backup several times using twrp and keep asking around. In the root directions it's said how to backup and restore. Surely it's been done in this os since instructions are there.
The second time I tried, I was able to backup and restore all partitions "successfully" using the newest bluespark twrp version from a couple days ago... But I get this boot issue saying the device can't be trusted and doesn't boot.

Deteled some system apps, now stuck in a bootloop

It is just as the title states. I would like to somehow fix my phone instead of just recovering.
I can still access twrp, and the app(https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jumobile.manager.systemapp) is used to create it with has created some backup files that i can still access. Is there still hope?

If you have some idea which apps you uninstalled then you can put them back in the right directory/folder, the app you used probably created a folder to backup them anyway for the next this app is not recommended to use it blindly; it doesn´t have a good criteria to determine what´s important and what´s not.
Or you can flash only the system image and after that wipe caches, reboot.

Yes, there are some apps on PlayStore that can do that but you can´t boot right now to use it, probably you can take some logs through adb while in TWRP, check this https://github.com/IzzySoft/Adebar
The app you used creates a folder in the SDCard, probably it keeps the apps there, if you have TWRP you can navigate to it and you´ll find them.
the app has created an xyz.apk.backup can i just use adb install, or should i do something different?
hmm, i think just reflashing the system image would be easier. So should i just reflash the lineageos.zip?

Yes, the first is identify the apps and then you can install them using adb through TWRP or copying the app to the folder where it was previosuly.

It could work if you do it correctly:
- Wipe system, caches and data (not format)
- Flash the LOS zip.
- Flash the GApps (if you had previously Google apps on it)
- Reboot.

Great, you can restore it just at the same time you did take the backup, if at the moment that this happened you didn´t take a backup of course you can´t anyway if you had some apps synchronizing with the cloud then this will be the only way. It works similarly as Windows (or Linux distros) also work if you have some idea from.
