I'm trying to find out how you guys manage without a sdcard...do you carry a otg cable and usb stick always with you... Just asking if I should trade in my HTC ONE M8...for a OpP...Can you please explain....

I'm talking about your nandroids backups...and personal stuff incase I wanted to change roms.... My SdCard holds all my personal stuff and when I flash other roms to test ....my sdcard does not get touched...
^^ the one plus one has a "virtual" SDcard... which all data stays perstiant on between flashing...IIRC
So your saying is that this Virtual SDCard...uses up the 64gig that the unit comes with.???
not all 64...looking at my phone it says 54gb total
64 - UsedBySystem = More than enough
For Nandroid backups I use a USB Stick and then store it on the server, for pictures or so I use Airdroid.

As previously stated, your personal data is never wiped unless you actually do it yourself, this is standard for any device that doesn't use an external sd card. The 64gb overall storage is partitioned in such a way that you end up with about 55gb for yourself, with the rest taken up by the ROM and other system needs. And yes, I'd ditch the HTC for this phone in a heartbeat.

Like everyone else stated, your files will remain untouched while flashing a new rom (unless and until u manually wipe them from recovery). I keep my nandroid on my phone itself, but i actually prefer having my OTG pendrive along with me all the time. i have made a backup of all my important files on it as well. reg jumping from M8 to the One, 1+2 is still some time away from us (late Q2 or maybe Q3 of 2015), so 1+1 is still your best bet. I had a nexus 5, sold it off to get 1+1. no regrets! heck, the lollipop roms here are as stable as the nexus 5 ones.
I had the S4, then M8, then nexus 5 (16gb). Didn't have the nexus that long, and sort of missed having the extra storage. But didn't miss the SD card coming to OPO as theres plenty with the 64gb version. If anything I'm more put off by 16 GB phone models even with the sd card. The nexus isn't too bad as it's pretty bloat free but with the 16gb S4 or M8 I was still mindful of the internal storage as you lose a fair amount for the OS and you can't move all apps to the SD. Hopefully manufacturers ditch the 16gb models soon. Even a 32gb model with and external SD would be fine, but 16gb feels a bit stingey these days.

Absolutely. My last device was the 16gb HTC One XL and in reality you only end up with under 10gb user-accessible space, which gets used up pretty quickly.

Probably not unless you REALLY have to have ICS right away and the upgraded camera hardware. I'd say wait until you're upgrade eligible, unless you are now, in which case I'd probably upgrade cause I really like this phone.

When you call it an UPGRADE then yes it's worth it
It's a lot more future proof than the Amaze IMO, probably going to have a lot more development as well.
How can a such high caliber HTC One S lacks a microSD slot? Don't know about you guys but the available ~12Gb or so just AIN'T enough.

why should u bet all your music collection in your phone, when u wont listen to all of it anyway?
ATM I have 8gb sdcard, and still 1gb left + alot of music I dont even listen to. I could easy free up even more space...
Just dont take "all the ****s" with you, Change music in your phone time by time instead of taking it all with you and just "skip -> skip -> skip -> 5x skip -> ok this is nice song"

I mean, when you have to wipe the phone, youre gonna have to copy all that stuff on the phone to a PC and then move it back later?

Storage isnt an issue... it comes with 25gb drobox space, You can take all your stuff with you..
And are you really gunna need 12gb worth of pics and music and whatever on your phone ?? As said above its easy to just swap stuff over, Load it back to dropbox and download something else. Keep it fresh
And i think its silly they dont have an SD slot, But look how thin this device is ! its soo slim, compromises had to be made..
And when you do a wipe, Unless you wipe internal SD card, (which you dont need to when doing a 'wipe') all your media will remain, Only the partition that keeps apps and data will be wiped. So again, Its no big deal..
Look at the potential this phone has, when development starts, nothing is gonna keep this bad boy down

azzledazzle is wright, but you can also wipe the sd partition and then mount usb storage to copy files on it (rom...gapps) from cwm recovery. I did that on Nexus S last night.

I think people are getting too much of a hard on for Krait. Yes, the S4 soc is amazing. But there are plenty of downers to this phone already.
1) HTC's amazing track record with batteries... Don't get me wrong, love HTC... but omg I've had to replace batteries on several phones after a year. Much nicer when you can just pay $20 for a chinese battery off amazon that works wonders as opposed to having to get the phone serviced.
I mean, honestly, why couldn't the phone have been build like the Sensation/Amaze and lift off that awesome aluminum back?
2) T-Mobile's coverage and the 25 GB of cloud storage - Depending on where you live, this 25gb is gonna SUCK because you can't access it worth a damn.
Though to be fare, everyone who's said "Just swap out your data" is completely right. You don't NEED 32gb of storage on your phone unless you want to be all "Hey, look at all the **** I've got." Which is something the cult of Apple has nurtured in a lot of people through iTunes.
3) Bottleneck - The parts are better than the software they run on. Honestly, this isn't a gaming PC. This isn't a PC at all. You can't just keep throwing higher and higher end parts into a phone expecting it to work better, you hit a performance plateau. Beyond benchmarks, we are starting to see android's limits at this point in standard use. I honestly feel that the HTC Sensation and Amaze are the best Gingerbread and ICS will offer in phones. Everything else is just stylish masturbation.
4) The Micro Arc Oxidation treatment has been shown to not be as durable on some phones as it should be. I've seen a couple blogs and several owners attest to this. If I can't have my HTC One S with that kickass plasma treatment and red accents without it flaking off I don't want it at all
Really guys, the Amaze (and it's lil bro the Sensation) are both great phones. If you don't mind taking the time to upgrade the sensation to a sensation xe rom you can get a very stable 1.5-1.7 ghz overclock and the Amaze battery fits in it, leaving you with one very very nice piece of machine. I got one to replace a busted Amaze and it runs very nice and I almost don't want to use my Amaze again now that it's fixed...
But back on to the One S... It's pretty, but it's really just HTC's one up of the Galaxy Nexus and Razr MAXX. Don't give in to the stylistic oneupmanship, just hold off and get the next monster they put out. I guarantee you we will see a monster of a phone in a few months that will basically be the next Amaze.
It's small and stylish. Feels great to hold in the hand as opposed to the other giants HTC has released during the years. Why all so called "flagship" models must have ridiculous screen sizes is beyond my understanding - the One S fits right in where it belongs and I think the upgrade is more on the aesthetic side than anything...
Like the above poster, I don't think that the storage space is an issue at all. (Coming previously from a Galaxy S 8gb model which I never really maxed out) and use the cloud if you need the space, hell it's even recommended why wouldn't you want your stuff sync'd all the time? I don't really see the point in having on board storage that I can't backup 24/7 anyway and with today's free data plans, most of us don't care for storing things locally.
But that's just my 2c.

What about when you're somewhere where theres no service or limited service. Viewing, transferring or downloading from dropbox will be impossible.
Or how about this senerio, starting to have to start saving our best, most intimate photos, important files to dropbox because you're already out of space in internal storage and dropbox crashes. Everything lost, forever.
No SD card slot for expandable storage is ridiculous.
For me it makes perfect sense. All my music is streamed through our Subsonic server, pictures auto update to a private G+ album, docs are on Gdocs.
If I'm going to the mountains I just preload some music and I'm good to go.

I agree wholeheartedly. I get why people don't like the cloud but I have never had any issues with cloud storage. I also use Subsonic to stream my music and it works great. The Subsonic app also caches music on my phone so if I have a bad connection I still have tunes. Also, I have no problem uploading my pictures and everything to Dropbox. Honestly, the lack of storage doesn't concern me at all.

surely you wont need 8GB+ storage for one day ?? you must have access to a computer where you can swap files and remove some stuff you wont be using ?
if the storage is such a problem for you... dont get the One S.. get something else

My device is my computer. Why would I need to be around a PC to swap files back and forth. Why go through that hassle with a mobile device? Then what would be that point of a mobile device?
Yea, you're right. I won't be going for the one s for sure. Amaze will be a better choice.
Mobile devices suppost to help by having data with you, but it cannot replace PC if u want all ur things with u then it wont be so mobile anymore, thats why ppl make cloud storage and cloud computing

I ordered a new Sandisk 64GB SDcard but after reading many threads on the topic here, I have a question about the format. From what I've read, in order to have the card recognized by CWM and other custom recoveries, it needs to be in Fat32 format rather than exFAT. Many people have suggested that you can use a Windows based 3rd party software to properly format the card, but I don't have a SDcard reader on my PC so I'm not sure what my options are at this point. I tried searching the forums about posts from people in a similar situation (i.e no card reader on PC) but was unable to find anything. Any suggestions or ideas on what I can do to retain the full 64gb capacity and still be compatible with CWM without having access to a SDcard reader? Thanks very much.

Will need to find a PC to format it. It comes ExFat and not only recoveries won't see it but roms/kernels may not see it either. The program is guiformat. Can Google and find it easily. The site is little confusing. Click on the picture of the app and it will give you the download.

I actually dug around in my basement and found my old PC tower that has a built in 8 in 1 card reader that supports SDcards. If I can find a way to extract it from the old tower and hook it up to my new one, I may yet find a way. Thanks again for the continued help.

Yea. Only difference between 32 and 64 is don't need a special program for 32. Windows can do it natively. Good luck.

Is there any chance I could stick the 64gb card in my old Droid X, connect it to my PC, and then use the program you suggested to format it to FAT32? I guess I was hoping the phone could act like a SDcard reader of sorts for my PC. Thanks again.

I had a droid x but I'm not sure if it handled a 64gb but if it does you should be able to format it the way you want.I bought a $4 usb micro sd card reader for my SanDisk 64gb card and I hooked it up to my pc usb slot and used a partition program and was able to successfully format it to fat32.Have not had one problem with it being recognized by any Rom or kernel, think it gave me 59gb total after it formatted.

Won't work from phone but go to radio shack and get cheapest one of these you can find. May be able to get with 1GB card. Take pic and show them what you want. Sorry I been busy and didn't think about it. Good call Droid. $12 max.
So I purchased a SDcard reader, hooked it up to my PC, and formatted it with the guiformat program that was recommended earlier in the thread. I set the allocation size to 65536 and left the Quick Format option checked. However, after it finished, both Windows and the S3 only show it as a 32gb card (approximately 27 GB total storage space). Is there another formatting program for Windows or any other ideas you could recommend so I can get the correct storage size (64gb)? Thanks again.

I tried using a few different programs to format the card to FAT32 but every time it still showed up as a 32gb card. I ordered it directly from Newegg so I don't think the authenticity is an issue, but I have no idea what could've caused this to happen. Regardless, I sincerely appreciate the help I got from the folks in this thread and via PM. Thanks again for your time and effort.

I encountered the same "hiccup" as you pertaining to the 32 gb issue.
I ended up using a program called EaseUS Partition Master to finally get all back to normal. I wiped my sdxc partition, it did come back with some message that something didn't complete ???, but then I formatted as fat 32, primary partition, and got the entire 64gb back and so far... ( fingers crossed ),.. all seems to be working well.
With the card formatted as exfat, as soon as I got around 8 gb of music, photos, etc.. the card simply would loose its' file structure and just start acting weird. All files would still show up if I pulled the card and put in an sdxc reader on the PC... but my Galaxy S3 never would recover them properly.
This has got to be some kind of "bug" in the phone as you'll see in the other thread this problem is quite common.
For what it's worth.. I seemed to have much better luck transferring large chunks of data with the card in the reader opposed to hooked up while in the phone. ( speeds kept dropping via the phone cable )

Sure... I vaguely remember I had to try to format as NTFS first for some reason before I got it to properly format with entire 64gb fat 32. I spent countless hours trying to work out all the bugs with this card and exfat. Samsung states the Galaxy S3 phone is compatible with it... but there is definitely an issue with file structure once you start loading it up.
Quick update:
I ended up returning my Sandisk 64GB and replaced it with a G.Skill 32GB (Class 10) that was on sale for $22 from Newegg. Surprisingly, it came already formatted as FAT32 so I didn't have to mess around with it to get it working with CWM and custom kernels. Seems to be working great so far, and is plenty fast, so I'm pretty happy with the end result. I guess it might have been nice to have an extra ~30GB, but I mainly stream all my music/video anyways, so I'll have a tough time even filling up this new card.
Thanks again to everyone who gave me their advice and input on trying to get my first SDcard formatted correctly. Even though I wasn't ultimately successful, I sincerely appreciate everyone's time & effort.

There is no easy way of doing it you need to have int-d to do it and even then its not an easy solution
Unfortunately its not Samsung but google which has developed the new version in such a way that you cannot move apps one of the reason being their concept that there should be only one memory and hence there is no sd card slots in nexus devices

You could get a 32GB model.
ive done it the zedomax way i have 64gb iternal now downside of this is wen transfering movies from pc to tab takes ages
I wish I had got the 32 gig model now but I wasn't expecting this problem, I just have to manage my space a bit more proactively. As I want to use my 64 gig card with exfat (to store films over 4 gig) I have do clockwork backups to my internal SD and then copy them across to get the space back. This is far from ideal but I have got used to it now.
I found that using my SD card as internal SD slowed my device to much for my liking.
I had a 64 gig sd card in mine and I noticed that recovery mode would not see that 64 gig card which was a real pain when trying to use different roms. I put my 32 gig card back in and everything is good

Has anyone used link2sd with the shield tablet and if so does it work and also is it worth getting the 16gb version or just wait for the 32gb, I was looking forward to buying the 32gb today but then found out it has been put back till the 30/09/14:crying: and has anyone used a scandisk 128gb ultra class 10 with the tablet and are they any good

If you decide to buy, I would recommend the 32GB. I find myself shuffling games between the SD card and internal storage.
Having said that, if you plan to play tegra games be aware that the tablet still loses charge when plugged in to an outlet. Nvidia has not acknowledged this yet.

Yep I used it, and found that it worked. But, I did find that trying to flash updates that clobber root make for a stressful experience when trying to set up the tablet again.
The app puts a config file on your internal sdcard that basically makes the user partition invisible to the tablet until you get the external sdcard relinked again. Then all your apps show up again.
With the baked in solution NVidia offers, you can use the external sdcard for other stuff. With link2sd, your sdcard is your internal card.
I wouldn't mind trying foldermount to see if that differs in features and reliability.
Foldermount is my preference used both.

Interesting. I have the plus version of both, but have used link2sd as it seems to have more scope of files. I don't really want my 64gb card in 2 partitions though. You think the stock method is the best? What do you then use folder mount for

Phew, this turned out to be a long post (sorry about that).
Regarding the question about splitting your SD card
If you only want to use your 64gb card specifically as the symlinked device SSD, then you only need to put a small NTFS (from memory) partition as the first partition.
Again, it was a while ago, but I believe it only needs to be 10mb or something miniscule. link2sd then treats that as the "windows/mtp/ptp" directory, and the second partition with the remaining size formatted to EXT4 (again, read the docs: the file system type is explicitly stated) is the symlinked SSD.
Regarding your question about stock method/foldermount
I've been upgraded to an LTE 32GB, so I don't need to use this solution any more. I found that most games with a huge DLC bundle (Anomaly 2/Defenders, Sine Mora) allow you to offload the obb file to the ext sdcard anyhow.
The only advantage that could be worth investigating would be whether implementing link2sd or foldermount would allow you to continue to use the symlinked sdcard when you connect it to a PC. I seem to remember that when I did that with the stock solution, there was a caveat that some apps would stop working correctly because windows would steal the sdcard mountpoint for itself, thereby rendering the apps offloaded to the sdcard unavailable.
Summary
I would not bother unless you have a lot of large games, or heaps of local music or videos stored on your device.

I finally was able to upgrade my tablet.
I do not want to use adoptable storage... but noticed i can no longer move apps to external SD. The ones that were moved previously, im given the option to move them back, but not vice versa. From what im reading this only seems possible now with adoptable storage?
I would just like to know if thats the case. I am on stock... but rooted MM with TWRP recovery.
Yep. It's a security feature in Android now; it is a compromise that Google made with the people who own the phones (and desire to have more storage) and the people who want to make sure that the system is secure (developers, and so on).
If you want to stay on stock those are your choices at the moment.

Funny thing is, my Shield TV just updated to MM as well. I opted out of adoptable storage as well, but that still lets me put things on my SD card without issue...

That is interesting! I hadn't read anyone dealing with the MM on the Shield TV. I don't have one so I hadn't read up on it. I'd hate to think about why that is.
That being said, Samsung and LG have expandable storage on their new phones, but they won't let you adopt them as internal storage, which only confuses the matter more.
I had to format my sdcard to NTFS on lollipop and haven't had trouble with it since the upgrade to mm. I just had to make sure to set the root of the sdcard as the home folder for the file browser
