Original micro USB cable - General Questions and Answers

Hi guys,
I am wondering if there are "chinese" or "original" (OEM) micro USB cables, I mean I bought from eBay 2 micro USB cables (not the cheapest ones), so I tried to flash a Samsung and Galaxy Nexus phones via this cables, and it did not work, it says that "Connection with devices was lost" or it could not find it at all, but if I'm trying to flash a firmware with an OEM Samsung S2 or Galaxy Nexus cable it works well, so what's wrong with this? and how can I find a good cable for that on eBay or Aliexpress?
By the way, I noticed that cables bought from eBay are made from a harder material, it's close to plastic, but the OEM cables are made from a silicone like rubber. So I suppose there is some magic

@Denees,
Yes, OEM cables are available online, but I'd recommend getting them from Amazon.
By the way, the external material can and often does differ between cables, but there's really no "magic" - the only magic going on there is better quality. A cord with a plastic-y outside and a cord with a silicone outside will perform exactly the same if they're the same product, just with a different outside.

Best small USB Cable? So I can easily keep a cable on me at all times.

I bought a really small USB cable for my nexus one but I'd like to use my Nexus as a massive thumb drive too.
Any suggestions on a super skinny thing usb cable? One without such big thick plastic on either end.

1.5ft for $0.85 good enough for ya?
I have an even shorter cable but my question was more is there something with thiner metal or plastic ends so it could fit more comfortably in my case or with my phone at all times.
I've seen lots of usb sticks with wildly thin plastic usb ends like the OCZ micro whatever stick.
So any cables like that exist?

Expansys DHD cradle

I just received my dock from Expansys, and I gotta say, it is awesome. I cannot find any bad points about it, the phone fits nice and the base of the cradle is very solid.
I recommend!
Oh, that is a good looking cradle Does it include an usb cable?
Nice looker, does it come with a charger? Also any chance of a quick video?
Gah I want one that will fit the otterbox commuter case with it.
Looks like a universal dock it is.
Nope, does not come with a charger. I ordered a 3m micro usb cord with it, works fine. It is always connected to my computer.
I can shoot a video, maybe tomorrow
There you go! Sorry for the quality, I had to shoot in medium/low light.
I need some dock for DHD but I have silicon case on DHD, do someone know some dock for it?
I've had this since release day, it appears to be excellent in all respects apart from not being about the mount the sd card as a usb disk. If I connect my phone directly to the usb cable this works fine, however, when via the cradle cannot see my sd card.
Are you having the same issue?

Mine works fine ??
I ordered the same. But I will never order one again, atleast, not at expansys. I never had such a bad customer service. The product is good. (the dutch site says it comes with a cable, but it doens't, the english site says it doesn't come with one).
It's very stylish and stable, but hell no. What A pain to get that thing send to me.
I want another dock for work, so I'll ook elsewehere. I like the one with the 3,5 mm jack out.
Thanks for the video jkoljo, it looks like good quality and a nice fit.

hey quick question since i hate wall chargers. coming from a blackberry that just had to sit in its cradle to charge without any plugging in of some micro usb end whatsoever, does this cradle allow for easy sliding in/on and out or do you basically have to yank it out like the male connector of the wall charger that sits extremely tight in the micro usb port? I'm always afraid of breaking off/bending that thin thing sitting inside the micro usb port. Not only does it look easily breakable, i've seen it break on other phones before
I have brand new one available for sale, advertised in the Marketplace http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=899525
fana05: It is not as tight as the wall charger, but the device will definitely not fall out the dock if you turn it upside down. The dock has nice edges that go around the device, so I think that it is not very easy to break the connector.

[Q] Otter Box Defender and Samsung MHL cable issues

I resently purchased a Samsung Brand MHL cable for my Galaxy S4. I found that there is 1/8" interferance with my micro USB slot when I have my Otterbox Defender on it. The cable works great once I remove my case, but I don't want to have to remove it every time I want to use this cable.
What opions do I have. Do I shave down the MHL cable, Shave down the otterbox plastic, try to find a micro usb extender (if they exist so far have been very tough to find) or just deal with the removal of the case?
Thanks to all in advance for your help.
Is that an 1/8" on each side or 1/16" on each side, 1/8" total?
If you don't have to take much off the connector, that would be my first choice.

Best replacement cable?

My stock cable is a little bent. What's the best cable for charging? Preferably avaiable on Amazon please.
Thanks!

Hi,
i use this one for replacement of my original samsung one. http://amzn.com/B00C28L5UW
I couldn't detect any differences in loading speed between this and original samsung one.
But the phone side plug is very big. So be careful before buying and measure if its fit if you use any case. I use the Urban Armor Gear Case and it fits perfectly.
Also flashing works without problem with this cable.

Thanks for the link, I need a new cable
I just got 2 new cables AND chargers from ebay for $18.99 delivered. They are OEM and appear to be from Verizon because the stickers on the USB cable mention Backup Assistant. The are both brand new & packeged in bags. They have 1 cable & charger for $8.99.
I have tons of black USB cables and was looking for colored ones to make it easy to grab in the car (black interior). Found these iFrogz in different colors and slim profile. Good reviews on Amazon, sold at Staples, but can be found for only a few bucks on eBay.

OTG Micro USB that fits Neo Hybrid Spigen?

Anyone know if these exist?

That's not an OTG.
I noticed that it is difficult to find anything that will work. I have one of these but sadly it doesn't fit with the Spigen case... but to be fair, it doesn't fit with any other cases that I've tried either.
I found that I had but two options:
I could remove the top portion which revealed additional space for the adapter to fit with the case on allowing it to still function properly. However, it also means that you'll have to "break" it to use it.
Find an extension cable of some kind. One that will fit with the case on and allow MHL OTG connectivity to the adapter. I haven't had any luck finding one but I'm sure they can't be too difficult to make. I mean, after all it's only a cable. LOL! I guess there's just not a huge demand for it but they have to be out there. Let me know if you find one because that's my personal ideal solution.
You can use any. Use a razor blade or knife to slice the plastic or rubber tip of the micro-usb connector at an angle on both sides
