Does anyone know of a good case for the Atrix 2 where the opening for the MicroHDMI/MicroUSB ports is large enough to allow easy connecting with the Lapdock 500 connection cable?
With the case I have now, it's very difficult to connect because the side edges prevent the cable connectors from being inserted all the way into the ports so that everything is right flush up against the side of the phone. The opening would need to be longer in order to allow the rubber piece with the lapdock connectors to push flat against the Atrix 2, but pretty much every case I've looked at on Ebay appears as though it would present the same issue.
Has anyone ever seen a case with a sizable enough window for the ports that wouldn't interfere with the lapdock connector plug?
I am using a OtterBox for my girlfriend it has a Huge Side port for Charger and HDMI.
I am not sure how big the Dock Connections are.

Thanks for the reply.. is it the Commuter or Defender version of the Otterbox that she has? On the lapdock it's not the metal connectors themselves that are large as they fit perfectly into the phone ports. It's the rubber plug part that they stick out of, just like with a standard electrical plug that goes into a wall outlet. The two little metal prongs protrude from a rubber base piece, and it's this piece that gets blocked by the edges of the case around the port window, and prevent it from being completely flush against the side of the phone itself. As a result the metal connectors don't quite stick all the way in, and the connection can be flaky because of that. If I take the phone out of the case, there's no issue at all.
I'd love to try the Otterbox but since they're expensive I need to know which version it is so I can buy the right one.
Thanks!

I'm not sure if they still are, but AT&T had the Commuter for $5 (plus shipping?) on their site for quite a bit - check a few threads below this one for the link.
I've got the Bionic Lapdock but haven't tried connecting the phone (in the commuter case) to the lapdock yet.
Good luck, regardless!
ETA: Here's the link to all the cases for the Atrix 2 on their site, I see a few $5 ones on there, including the Commuter. https://www.att.com/shop/en/wireless/accessories/accessorieslist.prod5280631.html

Thanks for the tip and link.. it seems that AT&T will only ship to USA addresses and not to Canada where I am, so I ordered a commuter case from Ebay instead and will hopefully receive it this coming week. I'll update the thread with results of lapdock compatibility once it arrives.
So the Otterbox Commuter case arrived yesterday, and I've been able to test compatibility with regard to the above question. The port opening on the hard-shell portion of the case is definitely considerably larger than others I've seen, but the rubber cover-flap on the soft inner-shell component interferes and stops the lapdock connectors from being attached to the USB/HDMI port on the phone, even when that flap is flipped open completely. Both components of the case must be used together as the phone won't fit into just the hard shell on its own.
I decided to remove the USB/HDMI rubber flap completely from the soft shell and re-combine the case, and in this state with the phone inside, the Lapdock 500 connector is able to stay reliably attached to the phone even though to the eye it still doesn't necessarily look as though it's clicked in all the way completely flush against the edge. I can at least use the phone with the lapdock any time I want without removing it from the commuter case, which is ultimately what I was hoping to be able to do.
hi guy, need some advise in regards to making a magnet charger like the Z1 onward model
found this on the forum, looks promising

Hi all.
There are alot of good ideas out there and I would like to share mine with you.
I was looking for a way to have magnetic attatchment of the charging cable to the phone as jimsey did in post #25.
However I wanted the actual contact to be magnetic.
This is how i did it.
Order magnets from supermagnete or somewear else, the price was just 5 EUR for 20 magnets.
Article: Q-05-04-01-G
Description: Block magnet 5 x 4 x 1 mm, ndFeB, N50, gold-plated
Order conductive silver glue price is similar to magnets.
Modify a microusb cable, attach magnets and solder the correct cable to them (polarity of the magnets is important, you dont want them to stick to the wrong contact on the phone).
Get to work!!!

however, this method requires modification of the outer body of the phone
so i was thinking
if i can get small magnet piece like 1mm x 2mm x 2mm or similar
(because the contact opening area on the phone is roughly 3.5mm x 1mm, about 0.8mm deep)
i could just modify the cable but not the outer casing
so i found this online
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/50-Tiny-Neodymium-Block-Magnets-3mm-x-2mm-x-1mm-N52-Grade-Craft-Warhammer-3x2x1-/161333701115?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item25903ce9fb&_uhb=1
but this is Neodymium
from my understanding they are like super strong
what i need to know is do they pass current like the type used by mb29661 above?
also will neo magnet damage mobile electronics, SD card ect
other wise,
what will be the best type of magnet to use for this application?
any info will be great help
thanks in advence

The type of magnets I used was Neodymium and they work perfect for passing the current. They have a thin gold outer layer. I to was thinking of using smaller magnets in the charging ports but decided to go for bigger ones to get a stronger connection.

so it's save for the electrical and sd card? great~
i was worry because it might wipe memory or cause some problem with the hardware that's all
since they are so cheap on ebay ect, i will get a few different size to test out :good:
btw, what kind of solder you use to solder wire to the magnet?
just normal tin/lead ones for electrical work?
coz i am no sure what will stick
can you please show me a photo on how to solder the wire to the magnet if you still got them plz?

Any normal solder will work fine since the magnets is goldplated.
Hey guys and gals,
I am looking to purchase a Car Qi Charger. I have not yet found a thread for this, though there were options mentioned in the regular Qi Charger thread, but this one is specifically for the car.
I have found 2 which look promising but just want to know other peoples input. Plus want to know if they will hold with a case on the phone.
Itian: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M685JTG/
C1: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H1XU6A8/
Both of these look pretty good, have mixed reviews, but just want to know what you guys think would be best and if anyone actually used these in the past?
I know that there is also the AirDock, but I doubt it would hold the Note 4 all that well, so not bothering to include it.
I currently use this item in my car as a regular holder, so I wish there was one (other than the AirDock) which can utilize the ability to hold and charge the phone by mounting into the CD Slot of the car head unit: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004G1L52Q/
Please add to this list if anyone has better solutions.
I've been agonizing over this choice myself, but I'm even worse off than you- I've gotten hooked on having a magnetic mount (currently using the Bracketron Si earth elements mount), and I REALLY like the S-View cover, so what I really want is a car dock that does Qi charging AND holds the phone magnetically, with strong enough magnets to hold through the S-View flap! Unfortunately, it seems that at this point there aren't ANY magnetic Qi docks (apart from the Airdock, and I'm right on the same page as you there), let alone one that would work through the S-View flap! So basically if I want Qi I'm stuck either sacrificing the magnetic holding feature and going with arms, or I'll have to build my own custom dock. Haven't quite decided which route I'll go yet, but man do I wish there was a decent magnetic Qi dock!
Anyway, as for Qi docks that DO exist now, in my research I've found a couple that seem to really stand out and come up time and again as the go-to's for Qi in the car. Here's the best options I've seen so far:
The iOttie: http://www.iottie.com/Product/Detai...for Google Nexus 5 and Qi Enabled Smartphones
Amazon's got this one for $55 also: http://www.amazon.com/iOttie-Wireless-Standard-Motorola-Smartphones/dp/B00IRHQZTI
Nokia CR-201: http://www.mobilefun.com/38310-nokia-qi-wireless-charging-nfc-car-holder-cr-201-Reviews.htm
bit more expensive, but has some nice features.
Then there's this:http://www.tylt.com/vu-car-wireless-charger/
Not available yet, but it looks like it may be a decent option.
I've read a lot of mixed reviews on the plethora of non-name brand Qi gear thats out there, some people say that they work just as well for cheaper prices and others say that they're total junk. I guess I'd say if you see one you really like then just make sure that you read reviews on it so you don't get stuck with something that doesn't work or worse.
As for a mount that uses the CD slot, I haven't seen any Qi docks that come with that option but many docks share similar or identical mounting solutions, so once you find a Qi dock that you like you could probably find a non-qi dock that mounts in the CD slot and then just replace the actual dock with the Qi one. Personally I don't think I'd trust the CD slot to hold up a phone this heavy, I'd be worried about damaging the CD player not to mention it'll be much less steady, but hey if that's what you like then good luck!
Thanks for the input
I will have to look into the Ottie one as it does look fairly decent. The Nokia one is way over priced and I cannot say I am a fan of it. The Tylt is nice, but I am sure it is going to be quite costly due to their original designs of their products.
The reason I want it as a CD mount is because I currently have one (minus the Qi of course) and it works just fine, hold the phone super good, without issues at all what so ever. Plus, no damage done to the head unit or CD Slot (not that I use CDs of course lol).
I just want something very low profile, but for it to do the job you know. The reason why I do not want anything mounted on the windshield is because I hate wires and I like for the phone to be close to me while I drive. I do not text and drive though! I plan to run the wire behind my head unit and bring out just enough to plug into the Qi holder. This will be a pain in the rear of course, but I am anal when it comes to wires lol. I have a radar, dash cam, and soon a Qi charger, all of which I want to make fairly invisible with regards to wires.

and another
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-...S3-S4-Note2-Nexus-Nokia-Lumia/1795791846.html
I use this one:

I used it for my S3, and it does fit a Note 4 with the Ringke Fusion case on it with a little room to spare. I haven't used it for Wireless Charging on my Note 4 yet because I'm still waiting for my wireless receiver to arrive, but it has worked perfectly on my S3 for the last 6 months.
It doesn't go in a CD slot, but it does offer both the suction cup and the air vent hooks.

Keep in mind that none of the chargers that people listed here except for the Itian have the One Touch operation. Paradoxically that includes the iOttie charger (people who invented it). So to me they all seem ridiculously overpriced for the limited functionality they provide. I am using Itian, and so far pretty happy with it. If you really need some sort of specific mount (CD, Vent, or whatever), you may be able to take Itian head (it's detachable) and glue it to the mount that you like. I had to do that myself because by dash has rough texture and the only suction cup that would stick is iOttie gel cap. So I used a suction cup plus arm form a low end iOttie charger ($13.99 on sale) and Itian head ($27.99). Cheaper and more functional than name brands.

I actually ordered the C1 yesterday, but ordered it from AliExpress for $34 and should hopefully be here in about a week or so.
I will report back. I am wondering about purchasing the Itian though and seeing which one is actually better, but not sure yet.
I used AirDock with my LG G3. It should work with note4 also. Got nothing bad to say about that dock!

Disregard my earlier suggestion. Now that I finally have a Qi Receiver sticker for my Note 4, I'm finding that this one doesn't charge because the receiver isn't centered in the phone. I did cut up my receiver and turn the coil as close to the center as possible (careful not to cut the actual wires!), but it still doesn't charge for more than 2 seconds before the charging indicator turns off on the phone.
I ordered this one as a replacement and it's working great:
http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F5XPCSC/
Caveat: I don't know if it would work with the receiver sticker still in it's original configuration... :/ If I had to guess, I'd say it would because I can slide my phone to either side a little bit and I don't lose connection.
I had it with my Note 3. With the Note 4, I upgraded the car charger to a QC 2.0 charger and my car charging need is solved. It charges way faster than the best Qi charger that I've tried.

Can someone with the AirDock comment on the strength of the magnet? I've been pretty interested in it, but the problem for me is that I really like the S-View case, so the magnet in the AirDock would need to be strong enough to hold through the S-View flap. Maybe someone could test how well it holds with a piece of cardboard or something between the AirDock and the phone? I've totally gotten addicted to having a magnetic dock, but I also love my S-View and I want wireless charging! I mean cmon, can't I have everything???

Right, I would assume I'd need to use the sticker but what I'm wondering is whether the AirDock will hold the phone with the S-View cover flipped around to the back. Basically the sticker would be on the back of the phone, then the S-View cover would be between the sticker and the AirDock. Are the magnets in the AirDock strong enough to hold the phone even with the cover between them and the sticker?

The nexus 5 has 4 metal discs in it specifically to make magnetic docks easy and allow for some self aligning.
The airdock with the nexus 5 works reasonable well. Not perfect, I do have to realign the phone more than once per day and end up grabbing or holding if if there's a big dip/bump/whatever.
However even with a thin case the n5 is unusable with the air dock. What's worse is that the airdock + note 4 is worse than the airdock + n5. I'm guessing the note 4 doesn't have the 4 discs.
I have an airdock and it works great with the Note 4.
i use an itian charger and it works great with double sided scotch tape for outdoor mounting. sticks vertically to the dash and holds the note 4 with two prongs.
While shopping for cars, I found out the camry and Avalon can come with wireless charging. I ended up with an Avalon Hybrid with tech pkg.
I'm not happy with this one - lost allways the connection - looking now one with three coils like my Itian desk charger, this one works perfect....

I like the iOttie...
Alright, so I have been using my regular OTG cable and usb setup for the device and lately I have been thinking of the possibility of somehow attaching my usb to the rear of the device case (with some velcro) so it is not hanging loosely to get pulled out (and impact the port). I have been googling around and at present can only seem to find an OTG cable with either a right angle to the left or right. My question is, is there a rear facing OTG cable with a 90 degree angle to the rear of the device where the cable can be secured in place and the cable naturally bent to the rear to relieve potential pressure to the port and allow for easy velcro-ing ability of the usb/otg usb A section of the cable to the rear of the case.
I presently have a sandisk dual micro OTG usb adaptor which is rather good (however i have seemed to misplaced it) but i can already see a problem with this once i get a half decent case (thinking poetic revolution series).
My last solution will probably involve the use of a right or left angle OTG if i cant seem to find what i am after.
cheers for the help
I know there are mini otg adapters that just fit a microSD card. They are about the size of your thumbnail. The name slipped me.

I actually have one of these and it works well for now that I have nil case (due to there being none available in Australia) but once I get a hold decent case with a cover over the ports I just know the bulk will hit on the case port opening in and prevent the little adaptor from attaching to the device. I'm not to keen on getting a slimline folio type cover and was going to get a poetic case similar to the otterbox
