I resently purchased a Samsung Brand MHL cable for my Galaxy S4. I found that there is 1/8" interferance with my micro USB slot when I have my Otterbox Defender on it. The cable works great once I remove my case, but I don't want to have to remove it every time I want to use this cable.
What opions do I have. Do I shave down the MHL cable, Shave down the otterbox plastic, try to find a micro usb extender (if they exist so far have been very tough to find) or just deal with the removal of the case?
Thanks to all in advance for your help.
Is that an 1/8" on each side or 1/16" on each side, 1/8" total?
If you don't have to take much off the connector, that would be my first choice.

I bought a really small USB cable for my nexus one but I'd like to use my Nexus as a massive thumb drive too.
Any suggestions on a super skinny thing usb cable? One without such big thick plastic on either end.

1.5ft for $0.85 good enough for ya?
I have an even shorter cable but my question was more is there something with thiner metal or plastic ends so it could fit more comfortably in my case or with my phone at all times.
I've seen lots of usb sticks with wildly thin plastic usb ends like the OCZ micro whatever stick.
So any cables like that exist?
On a standard USB data/charger USB A - Micro USB 'B' cable that comes with a Nexus 7 (for example) the 'Latch Head' metal connector that sticks out from the molded plastic boot is 5mm long.
I checked the specification on line and they should be 5.4mm minimum
I found when charging with these Micro USB B cables they don't fit tightly/properly, especially with a Nexus 7 as the molded USB head touches the Nexus case. The same is true when using a case on a mobile phone.
But, I have one cable where the Latch Head is 7mm long and it fits everything so much better.
When inserted you can see a little bit of the metal connector of the Micro B in between the phone and molded shoulder of the cable.
Has anyone else noticed this?
And does anyone know where to buy these? I have tried a lot of Google searches and no-one seems to be aware of these cables.
I want to replace all of my USB data/charging cables with the ones with a 7mm Latch Head.
I will try and post a picture and dimensions of my 7mm cable as soon as possible.
If anyone has any info or ideas that would be great!
Anyone know if these exist?
Have not tried this cable, but people are saying it fits from the reviews:

That's not an OTG.
I noticed that it is difficult to find anything that will work. I have one of these but sadly it doesn't fit with the Spigen case... but to be fair, it doesn't fit with any other cases that I've tried either.
I found that I had but two options:
I could remove the top portion which revealed additional space for the adapter to fit with the case on allowing it to still function properly. However, it also means that you'll have to "break" it to use it.
Find an extension cable of some kind. One that will fit with the case on and allow MHL OTG connectivity to the adapter. I haven't had any luck finding one but I'm sure they can't be too difficult to make. I mean, after all it's only a cable. LOL! I guess there's just not a huge demand for it but they have to be out there. Let me know if you find one because that's my personal ideal solution.
You can use any. Use a razor blade or knife to slice the plastic or rubber tip of the micro-usb connector at an angle on both sides
Alright, so I have been using my regular OTG cable and usb setup for the device and lately I have been thinking of the possibility of somehow attaching my usb to the rear of the device case (with some velcro) so it is not hanging loosely to get pulled out (and impact the port). I have been googling around and at present can only seem to find an OTG cable with either a right angle to the left or right. My question is, is there a rear facing OTG cable with a 90 degree angle to the rear of the device where the cable can be secured in place and the cable naturally bent to the rear to relieve potential pressure to the port and allow for easy velcro-ing ability of the usb/otg usb A section of the cable to the rear of the case.
I presently have a sandisk dual micro OTG usb adaptor which is rather good (however i have seemed to misplaced it) but i can already see a problem with this once i get a half decent case (thinking poetic revolution series).
My last solution will probably involve the use of a right or left angle OTG if i cant seem to find what i am after.
cheers for the help
I know there are mini otg adapters that just fit a microSD card. They are about the size of your thumbnail. The name slipped me.

I actually have one of these and it works well for now that I have nil case (due to there being none available in Australia) but once I get a hold decent case with a cover over the ports I just know the bulk will hit on the case port opening in and prevent the little adaptor from attaching to the device. I'm not to keen on getting a slimline folio type cover and was going to get a poetic case similar to the otterbox

Hi guys,
I am wondering if there are "chinese" or "original" (OEM) micro USB cables, I mean I bought from eBay 2 micro USB cables (not the cheapest ones), so I tried to flash a Samsung and Galaxy Nexus phones via this cables, and it did not work, it says that "Connection with devices was lost" or it could not find it at all, but if I'm trying to flash a firmware with an OEM Samsung S2 or Galaxy Nexus cable it works well, so what's wrong with this? and how can I find a good cable for that on eBay or Aliexpress?
By the way, I noticed that cables bought from eBay are made from a harder material, it's close to plastic, but the OEM cables are made from a silicone like rubber. So I suppose there is some magic
@Denees,
Yes, OEM cables are available online, but I'd recommend getting them from Amazon.
By the way, the external material can and often does differ between cables, but there's really no "magic" - the only magic going on there is better quality. A cord with a plastic-y outside and a cord with a silicone outside will perform exactly the same if they're the same product, just with a different outside.
