Note Edge Qi Wireless Receiver (3rd Party) - Note Edge Accessories

Just wanted to mention that finally, there are some Qi Wireless Receivers showing up on Ebay...
Type "note edge qi wireless receiver" on the Ebay search and you will see a few already...

I guess it won't be able to support fast charging, but it's still really neat to just lay your phone on your desk and have it charging

Ordered. Thanks for the heads up.

Mine arrived yesterday. Fits without issue. Almost no battery door bulge to speak of. Also, it adheres to the phone's body, not the battery, which means you can still swap. Bonus!

NFC problems?

I found this on ebay, is compatible with the American models, does anyone know if the electrical contacts are in the same position of the model sold in Europe?

If you mean the Exynos version then yes, my 915S from Korea looks to have the same contact points.
The only thing I have a question about is that if you only need those 2 contacts for wireless charging what does the other 4 contacts on the official qi backing support?

Fast charging maybe?
Anyone have any verification on this affecting NFC? Full Charge time?

Absolutely no issue with any of the 3 cases I have (two off brand TPU-style and the UAG case). NFC works just fine as well! No reason not to buy this. Thanks again to the OP.

Is fastcharge supported through Qi if I have a samsung Qi charger?
I only have a Ravpower powerbank/qi charger combo which I doubt would support it if it did exist for Qi.
Asking so that my test can be more accurate. I guess I'll test to see if the charge time is the same without fastcharge.

I got mine yesterday.
The only problem i have experienced is the 2 buttons not making good contact with the phone. It seems that the case cover wont press down on them hard enough.
All i did was got a bit of electrical tape and made a small square, so that when the case cover is put back on it puts more pressure on the contacts.
Aside from that it works great.
I have a incipo case and it charges with it on the Note Edge.
Have not tested the NFC but i dont see that being an issue if the phone is charging.

Is the weak contact when you have it in the case or off the case. I feel like if it's inside the case it would make the back press down a bit more?

It seems that the qi piece isnt making contact. Like the gold contacts are not big/thick enough to make contact. So If i just put the qi receiver with no tape and the battery cover, it wont charge. When i add the little bit of tape it, and put the battery cover on its enough to push the qi receiver contacts down to make better contact.

Its no big deal to me. Its not like you see it. and it doesnt make the case bulge any. And it works.

No contact issues here. None at all.

Question about Touchstone and Pogo pins.

I've been following the guide located here: http://www.android-hilfe.de/anleitu...eitung-induktionslade-mod-fuer-das-one-x.html
except that rather than actually opening my phone up, I'm lining up the wires inside the case to touch pogo pins 1 and 5.
So I know that the Touchstone and the back both work fine, because my multimeter says that there's current going through the wires when the Touchstone is connected. However, when I connect the wires to the back of the Touchstone (I connected the bottom wire to the top pogo pin, and vice versa, according to the German guide), the phone doesn't charge.
However, I know it's not a connection issue, because I stupidly decided to see what would happen if I connected the top wire to the top pin and vice versa. The phone shorted.
Luckily - LUCKILY - it booted up afterwards and appears fine, but I'm aware that I easily could have bricked my phone, so I'm not too keen on trying other dumb things.
Am I using the wrong pogo pins? The guide I referred to uses an international One X, so if there's any variation there , that could be what is making the difference. Or, it could just be that the Pre requires much less power than the One X, and the phone is charging, but it just doesn't realize that fact.
If it makes a difference, I'm running CM10.
Edit: also, if anyone has any idea how to get the contacts to touch the pogo pins securely while the phone is inside the case, that's another thing that's been stumping me for a while. It sucks that the pins are recessed...
I'm not 100% sure, but i've heard somewhere that pogo pins don't not work on custom kernels [stock support it], so if you are on CM10 you can't get it work.

Ah, neat! How did you get the wires to stay in contact with the body of the phone? Did you just tape them on or something?
And the bottom Touchstone contact (GND) goes to the top pogo pin, right? And the top Touchstone contact is 5v, and goes to the bottom pin?
It would be great to see this work.
It's been done before, I just haven't personally gotten it to work.
I've been trying to get it to work on mine too. I don't have a multimeter on me so I haven't been able to test my connections but they seem ok? I'm using copper tape.

I'm planning to do this on my wifes HOX. I did this mod on my Galaxy S3 and now she wants it too. I think you should try using some copper tape instead of hoping that taping the wires down would work. Take a look at the Galaxy thread and how the copper tape was used: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877191 You can get copper tape from Michael's.
I've got some ideas for a different approach to this. I'll post later this week if I can get it to work--parts are on order.
can somone post pics and details on how you got this working, i would love to do with mod but that German Page is getting me all confused.

Hi to all! Bought one kit yesterday. It's a great invention but, once again, the "engineers" managed to somehow design, computer assisted , the thickest heaviest cover ever!!
My S Charging Cover lasted about 2 hours and now, I've surgically extracted the important stuff. The insert will be inlaid into the S View Cover that can be machined with a micromotor. This cover is thick enough to get the inlay.

I'm using a Cruzerlite TPU case and the Metrans wireless charging insert. NFC and wireless charging are working together, if that helps. At least with my NFC tags. I haven't tried it with an NFC payment machine yet.

Interesting, My NFC did not work with the Metrans insert. I even took the back cover off and actually touched the tag to the battery and still nada. If I shifted the tag to the left as far as it would go and still make electrical contact, the NFC would work, but then it actually was past the edge of the phone. I thought about trimming it down, but the leads from the IC to the contacts run on that side of the insert really close to the edge so I would have cut them.
For now, I am waiting for two more tags...and the note 2 NFC antenna. I will get a combo working. And if not, I may just get the Sammy one and go caseless. Maybe someone will at least make a bumper or something someday.
Its really a shame its not built in....one of the phones big weaknesses in terms of hardware.

as you can see, just between the PCB and the induction coil, there is a rest of the NFC extra antenna that I've cut. the NFC wires overlap those from the induction coil. it seems samsung guys supplemented the NFC antenna from the battery, in this charging cover. I can assure you NFC is still working with the original battery included antenna and the insert in the photo..

May I ask if anyone knows which QI charging pad is compatible?
Samsung is releasing their own Qi charging pad/station pretty soon. I personally use the one from TYLT. It's been great with my Nexus 7 and my friend's Nexus 5.
I believe any QI standard charging pad is compatible.

Well, when the Note 2 first came out I tried two different QI charging pads that were supposed to be compatible. While one worked partially and was impractical as it would connect/charge for a few seconds and disconnect randomly, the other would not work at all. Perhaps I'll wait for the Samsung one as I am sure that will be reliable.
Has anyone seen the measurements on the wireless backing. I have a few cases pre-ordered and hope they will work with the official back. On the Note 3 I had to get rid of the official wireless back and replace it with the Tylt wireless pad and the original back.
This is a good news.

Thanks for the info
I just got my Note 4 today.
The wireless charging pins on the back look very close to the same as the S5.
I have a QI receiver for my S5 that I am going to try when I get home and see if it works with the Note 4.
Anyone else want to test it out in the mean time.

My local Verizon store had the wireless charge S-view cover for $50, a hell of lot easier on the wallet with the link posted to Expansys. Appreciate it !!
MY guess is that it won't fit most cases, so keep us updated.

Without a doubt the official Qi back will be at least 1.5mm thicker than the non Qi back making it incompatible with nearly all cases. The way to go is by just dropping a Qi receiver behind the original cover.

Spridell,
Any luck getting the QI receiver from your S5 to work with your new note 4? I'm hoping it does work so I can get one ordered for my Note 4 shortly after it arrives. I've been using one with my S4 for the past year plus and definitely don't want to add to the thickness of the Note by using the Samsung QI back cover.
Thanks!

Any reason you didn't just use double sided tape on the back side?

I tried that.. Trust me I've tried everything every which way.
Nothing held it in place perfectly like this did. Literally half a mm shift and it doesn't make contact. It has to be exactly precise.
This way it's really locked into place and ive used it on 3 different chargers and it's been perfect
Bought the same setup as you and i am experiencing an issue with thr charger...if i set the phone on the charger in landscape in the vertical slanted position it will charge for a while but then stop and i can hear a clicking that comes from the charger. Sometimes the charger will even cycle from charging to not and the blue light on bottom starts blinking.
Have you had any issues?

I should have added... I sent back that charger. It was terrible.
I am only using my CHOE 3 Coil Wireless Charger which is unbelievable. Huge sweet spot and never failed me in the 2 years I've had it. I think it's about $20 on Amazon.

Ahh ok. That makes sense. I guess i ought to return this one tooas it seems to be garbage. The charging coil itself seems fine though.
Thanks

The hard part is lining the receiver up in the back cover.. If you need some tips let me know. I have mastered this now doing it on 3 devices and friends phones

I did this on my S4 with a hot glue gun by placing the receiver on the phone itself, put a few small dabs of hot glue on the wireless receiver then put on the back cover. Now when you remove your back cover the receiver will be attached in the perfect location.

That's an excellent idea and I thought of doing that but didn't have a hot glue gun. That would definitely be very accurate
Does it deform the oem back cover? I have the cheapo ebay receiver and the phone won't sit flat.

Some Accessories

for now there are just a few accessories that I have found so far, I'm just preparing for my new upcoming MI MIX.

Hmm not bad I need both of those
If anyone finds a case for Mi Mix, which has this built in - please post a link here. Wireless charging is the only thing that's missing from this phone, besides OIS in the camera. A case with built-in receiver would take care of that.
Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/222313275944
That's great case

Can you find one with built in wireless charging receiver though? By the way, I think 0.6mm is too thin. Having extra slim case has its advantages when carrying it, but one of the main purposes of having a case is to protect the phone from shattering if you drop it. Because Mi Mix's screen goes all the way to the edge with no bazel - I think the phone wrapped in 0.6mm case will still shatter, if you drop it on a hard surface.

i'd say pretty much 0 percent chance you are going to get a charger with a wireless receiver in it considering how small of a release this phone is and its not worldwide. so few phones have those chargers built into the cases.

All good arguments, and you're probably right - a case with built-in wireless charging receiver may not ever get released for Mi Mix. However, there is still hope, and a number of those Chinese eBay sellers, who sell phone accessories, have a small factory and make those accessories themselves. Who's to say someone won't do it? As a last resort, I may purchase a standalone receiver, like the one I linked earlier and a case, and then pay some local tech shop to merge the 2, and create a custom accessory.
Does anyone know if any third party charging dock would work with this?

Ordered this one
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B01HSYAJM4/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And it works perfect, I use the supplied power supply so I am not sure if it uses all of the rapid charge but works for what I need.
Hope that helps.
Does anyone know of any back protector for this awesome phone.

Not helpful at all. It's a wireless charging receiver sticker, pretty much same one I linked in my original post about the product I'm looking for. I don't think you understand the difference between external sticker like this and phone case with built in wireless charging receiver, which is what I'm looking for. You quoted or replied to my posts already several times, each time providing a link to a different product, unrelated to what I'm looking for. You link either regular cases, or external wifi receiver stickers, neither of which is helpful.

I saw a film type back cover on eBay ... https://goo.gl/9Xc8yL . Was going to get but feel like a TPU case offers little protection worth having so using one of those.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 using XDA Labs
Anyone know what I should be looking for when buying a 2pin adapter for UK. Does the power need to be converted or just a standard adapter with 13amp fuse will be ok.
I received this semi-transparent TPU Case yesterday:

I went for the black color option, which is actually more of a smoke color, not a true black, the pic in the description is accurate.
Anyhoo, the fit & cut-outs are perfect, the volume/power button cutouts make finding both a lot easier than when using the stock leather case.
Yeah, the OEM MIX Leather case has this one beat in the looks department, but, the button cut-outs & slimmer profile, which makes for a better feel-in-hand,trumps the aesthetics of the stock case.
It's a shame to cover this phone at all, but, the case actually makes usability a bit better,a more sure grip,so,this one does it for me.
I've got a clear TPU Case & a (black) Pelosi case on the way,I'll update when they arrive (ETA any day now through Dec 23rd).
