[Q] Failed to go into Recovery - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just upgraded my XT925 from 4.1.2 (JBBL) to 4.4.2 (KKBL) via OTA. Bootloader was already unlocked. I then flashed in philz-touch 6.58.7 recovery. Flashing completed without error. However, when I booted the phone into recovery mode via pressing buttons or adb command, I always got "No command" and a dead green android with exclamation mark.
How can I get back into recovery (stock or phil-touch) ? Do I need to root the phone first before flashing recovery ?
Thanks.

Found the answer from another thread. All I had do was that:
1) unplug USB cable right after recovery was flashed
2) tap the power button
3) immediately hold down power and up-vol buttons to boot
4) select recovery (down-vol) and the up-vol to boot into phil-touch recovery.

[Q] Vol. down + power dosen't enter the bootloader

After I updated my (unrooeted/locked) Nexus S (9023) to 4.0.3 I wanted to try the 4.0.4 upgrade. After the 4.0.3 the recovery mode lost the backlight, so I figured the it was a good time to root.
I tried this one-click script to unlock. It worked and I installed CWMR and flashed the 4.0.4 upgrade. After a reboot the phone had ICS 4.0.4 and got root.
But not all is working. I lost the ability to get into the bootloader by pressing 'vol down.' & 'power'. The phone just starts normally.
The only way I can get into the bootloader, is to "reboot to bootloader" from a command line. If I choose recovery, I get a picture of an android at its back with a red ! (2105.dk/temp/img_1161.jpg). After two minutes it automatically reboots. What has gone wrong? What does it mean? And how can I fix it?
I'm new at this, so i'm out of ideas
try Vol up + power
Ahhh... now i'm feeling a bit stupid
Okay, i'm able to get into the bootloader, but the problem with the recovery still remains. (what does the picture mean? - 2105.dk/temp/img_1161.jpg)
I've tried both CWRM and TWRP. They seems to flash with no errors, but i still can not get them started from the bootloader (fastboot mode?).
Not sure if it's what you are looking for since I can't see the picture you are talking about but I think it's the recovery "security" screen. When you are there press power first and maintain it to press vol up, you should now be into the recovery...
Also remember stock rom has a script that overwrites any custom recovery with stock recovery each time the rom loads.
Yes, pressing [power] + [vol. up] at the recovery "security/error" screen, starts up a recovery.
I also didn't knew that the stock ROM overwrites the recovery. I never seen it mentioned any where else.
Thanks for the hints.
Okay, after learning how the stock OS trying to reinstall stock recovery, I managed to rename /etc/install-recovery.sh to *.bak
Now the stock recovery stays away, and CWM recovery stays on permanent.
Also, the error screen doesn't show up any more. (never found out what it means)

[Q] Red Triangle on Android Man

I have a Xoom WiFi on Android 4.1.2
I was trying to Unlock, Flash Recovery, Root and then Flash a Rom. I have Flashed on my phone a couple of times so I am a little familiar with the process.
I did the following:
1.
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot reboot
2.
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery "name of file".img. (the file i used was "recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.3.1-wingray.img").
3.
Once you have verification on your device that this has been flashed, reboot your device by holding volume up + power.
Then 3 seconds after you see the Motorola logo, hit volume down. You should now see "Android Recovery" in the top left corner. Hit volume up to boot into recovery.
This is where things go wrong.
Upon reboot,
I press down volume upon seeing the logo.
It then says Android Recovery.
I then press up volume.
then it says entering Android Recovery Mode
reading ODM Fuse:1
Then the Green Android man shows up with the red triangle.
It sits there for a while then boots into Android normally.
I have been searching for a solution since this morning. Everything I found about this has not helped.
Earlier in the day I did Flash a different Recovery so I think I have two. I installed the ROM manger app. It shows two installed.
ClockworkMod Recovery
Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP)
I am stuck as to what to do... Please help.
Thanks
Jim

Please follow the Root Method mentioned in the 2nd Post of LAIOT thread . You can easily find it within the Development Forum , or my signature.
"This Story Ends Where It Began" - Octavarium (Dream Theater)
Sent from my GT-I9505
One of the files link is broken.
The requested URL /atftas/OEM/Motorola/XOOM/Xoom-Universal-Root.zip2 was not found on this server.
I have another problem.
Now I have two devices. If I unplug the Xoom it still finds emulator 5554. What is emulator 5554?
Thanks
Jim
I got around the emulator 5554 problem by using the -d option. I followed everything and all went fine. I installed the app Root Checker Basic but it says Sorry! this device does not have proper root access.
All steps completed with no errors.
I guess I'm stuck again.
Jim
I flashed back to stock. Did all the steps again and the same thing.
I tried several more times and it still would not work.
I went to another site and downloaded the root.zip and it worked this time. The root file on this site would not work for for some reason.
The Android man with the red triangle problem is also gone. Not sure what fixed it. I assume that it was because I flashed back to stock and used a different root.zip file.
Thanks for all the help
Jim

[Q] I can't reboot onto recovery

Hi! I'm trying to install a cm rom in my xt926, I have the bootloader and, aparently, I can flash properly the custom recovery, but when I try to reboot onto recovery it doesn't work, shows the motorola logo and, after 1 or 2 minutes, reboot normally, and I canĀ“t enter the recovery to flash the cm rom... Anyone can help me? I don't know what else to do... A lot of thanks.
Sorry for my bad english
I have this Problem as well! Stock KK on XT926 build 183.46.10.XT926.Verizon.en.US. I've tried all the methods I could find.

Is your bootloader unlocked? If it is and you can really flash recovery while in fastboot mode - what do you do after that? Reboot the phone into Android and then try to reboot into recovery? If you're doing that, then that's the problem.
You need to reboot to recovery straight from fastboot, otherwise the stock system deletes the custom recovery. When you flash the recovery - unplug the cable and just press the power button once and the phone will turn off. Then hold Volume UP + Power and the boot menu will show up and then you select recovery and you should be good to go
Solved!
I've found the solution! I've flashed the wrong recovery. My stock rom is kit kat 4.4.2, this recovery works very fine

[Q] Recovery help

Ok, I have tried google and search and can't get any help, I can't access the recovery on a xt926, it is rooted and unlocked on 4.4.2 but I can't get it to load from the PWR/ VOL UP menu immediately after flashing either twrp, or cwm. when I try to use fastboot to flash the recovery I get told that the variable is not supported but then it continues with flashing and says it's complete but obviously doesn't work.
Any ideas?
I have an XT925. I got the latest DROID_RAZR_HD_Utility_1.41. Used that included TWRP 2.7.1.0 specifically for the XT 925.
Make sure you have the most recent drivers for your PC to recognize the XT925.
Boot to fastboot.
Connect the phone and make sure it is recognized.
Flash into the recovery partition the above TWRP.
yes, I also received the 'variable not supported' message. But the flash does confirm completion.
Once the flash is completed, unplug the phone. Then a quick press and release of the power switch to turn off. Once off, use simultaneous power and Volume+- press to get into boot menu. From there, select Recovery option and you should get into TWRP.
This worked for me after I thought I had completely bricked my XT925.
Cheers

Power phone off and press volume up, down, and power buttons simultaneously and hold them until you see white text with boot options. Scroll down to recovery and press vol up. Of thia still doesn't work, then you may be flashing a bad recovery image.
Thanks guys, I already got it fixed, I used flashify and it worked great.

moto softbricked (bootloop, can't enter into TWRP recovery )

while i was trying to flash another rom on my device it turned off in the middle of the flashing and since then it is stuck in bootloop , i tried to enter in to the recovery (twrp) but it again gets into the bootloop after showing the TWRP logo, tried flashng the TWRP recovery but the phone is not being detected on PC .... kindly help me people

i would while booting the device keep pressing the power button to force shutdown the device. immediately after turning off, press and hold both power button and vol - keys for 10sec or more and release. this will get you into the bootloader screen. on that keep pressing vol - to select 'recovery' and press vol + to go into the recovery. good luck

that leaves you only with one option. get into the bootloader screen, and flash the latest stock ROM using fastboot commands. then try flashing custom recovery, custom ROM from the beginning. i would skip flashing bootloader though.
