Q&A -- [ROM]TN-LickMePop-5.0.1-(alpha)-12/04/14 - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First, thanks vinman12, garwynn, tdunham and rompnit. Without you I would be looking at any ugly funny blue that counts my steps (kinda) and stupid slow transition graphics.
Ok, does anyone have screens for this rom? I honestly hate how stock looks.
Will "THE MISSING LINK" work? http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...pps/missing-link-aroma-powered-theme-t2870721
Any antutu benchmarks?
I'm on the latest MOAR with all TD's stuff and very happy but you guys know how it is, next level OS :silly:

There's Already a Q&A
Q&A URL is http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-s5/help/qa-tn-lickmepop-5-0-1-alpha-12-03-14-t2962221
Also this is an aosp based rom so it's stock. No TW or theming.

You have it backwards. TW is stock. CM12 AOSP based

What is your favorite "HOME"?

I know it's been asked for some specific roms, but it's really interesting wat ppl like more on any ROM..
Helix, period.
I don't like sense though, so sense lovers are going to disagree.
I'm confused about the difference between:
Stock plain android
AOSP look plain android
Unless you are talking about one black one white. But then you are getting in to themes and out of Home options.
I like sense, I wish they just go ahead and open source it, then we could really do some interesting things for it. Hell they could at least relase a widget dev kit, or specs on their widget api.
i like sense and now that it has working live wallpapers its goin to be the best

ok.. maybe i was wrong about that one.. I thought AOSP look wasnt a theme... but whatever i guess.. I do like AOSP look though, and I like Helix and Launcher, but I started to hate Sense look for some reason

Vanilla 2.2?

Is there a way to get an untouched 2.2 on the 3D?
I HATE LG's attempt at skinning up the 2.2, it looks crap and it runs badly, with loads of annoying features that I don't want or need.
you can try flashing fabs waterbear 3d rom and remove things that you don't like. Or else try to build up your own rom. There won't really be a vanilla 2.2 for O3D as there are things that LG needs to add in to make sure the 3D part work. So the best way is, customize on your own to suit your needs. That's the fun part of android anyway

Just use another launcher, like Adw Launcher or Go Launcher.

[ROM] Salvage-Sense 1.0 RC1 [2.1]

Salvage-Mod Sense

Welcome to SalvageMod Sense. This is a fun side project I've been working on. SalvageMod Sense is a HTC Sense project based off the Speedy Sense 2.1 upgrade. This does not contain the usual 3.0+2.1 merge you might be used to, and is not the goal of this project. So no asking. I thought I would share this ROM with you guys for anyone wanting a stable sense 2.1 experience. The ROM is uploaded to Google Code so if you're interested you may visit the links provided below.
This project features a fairly stock, yet enhanced, sense 2.1 experience. It also features a new kernel based on HTCs source code, ChopSuey. This kernel is open source on Google Code as well, again, links provided below. The kernel is fairly stock with a few additions, but more to come.
Why is it called SalvageMod!? I dunno.. I don't really like coming up with names. SalvageMod took a lot of brain power. At some point, my homie lith might join in and contribute to this one, so I figured we'd keep the team name together.

Thanks to leoisright for getting me interested in this port with the very first "alpha" he released. I have been picking away here and there ever since
Known issues:
-Boot animation is broke. Sits on "salvage-mod" but it's booting. Be patient.
-HDMI out?
: Disclaimer :
We are not responsible for any damage you do to your phone, or anything that results after using our software. Also know, this is a "release candidate". Although I consider it quite stable, the kernel and ROM are still new to the public. YMMV.

What does this ROM look like?
Sense.
To do:
Implement undervolting
Allow overclocking
Add a few more cpu scaling options to the mix
Few UI changes I have in mind
Fix boot animation (compression issue I do believe)
Fix slight alignment issue on lockscreen text previews (almost money)
Add more options to notification widgets
Implement some OG salvage goods?
Clean some more things up. Still a little overweight
Some system apps needs updating
Remove pesky location notification
Run a marathon
Take my dog for a walk
i'm freakin pumped about this man. thanks!
Nice! I'm in. Now, I can have Salvaged AOSP and sense

Any links yet?

Finally newer stable sense rom. Thanks!
barnacles, this is exactly what i was hoping for man. No disrespect to any of the 2.1 + 3.0 "accents" ROM's, but they just seemed a bit laggy for me (especially when pulling down the notification bar). This feels very quick, has enough extra, but still slim. Appreciate this!
hey, great job, it looks like you disable the flipclock, since you did that, you might as well finish it off by upgrading the screen from 4x4 to 4x5, as i beleive having the flip animation disables 4x5 and sticks on 4x4 no matter what.
Right on! Flashing this bad boy with lithid's kernal!
hey barnacles, i noticed when i get a text message on the lock screen that the text message icon is pink....can this be changed
edit: also, does anyone know how to update to the latest market? I tried clearing cache and data, but it's a no go.
edit 2: i'm not sure if DTa2sd is set up right, i'm not showing my sd-ext in titanium backup and when i run a2sd check in terminal emulator and it said something about no mount block.
Just trying to be helpful since this is an RC. Don't mean to offend anyone.
Edit again: i flashed the dta2sd beta 4 zip file and it's up and running now. probably something on my end, but if not, i hope this helps someone.
Chop Suey!
I would just like to mention that as I was reading this, "Chop Suey" by system of a down came on octane on sirius radio. Found it rather amusing! Downloading. Always dig anything from you brotha!
okay only this one could get me to go back to sense...
time will tell
Looking forward to this
Any chance of implementing landscape rosie support in this one? I absolutely love that feature, especially when the kickstand is out.
Who are you and what did you do with AOSP barnacles?
Downloading

I am going to download this and take a look. I like the way the 3.0+2.1 builds look but I have had some problems. I have tried Synergy and MikG. Had another bootloop while using the phone again today. I am not sure if the problem is the ROM or the Freedom kernel.
Great rom. Thanks for your work!
excellent ROM! nice everyday driver! I second the lock screen pink Icon, if that could be changed that would ideal....Also if you could raise the "lock ring" up a little that would be awesome too!!
The rom is the balls man. I love it. I've never been a big fan of the 3.0+ 2.1 roms. They never seem to work out or they lag too much and the battery life is usually suspect in my eyes. I'll be sticking with your rom for a while barnacles. Thank you.

Really liking this ROM. Nice, and simple. The only thing I would like to see the app selector on the lockscreen.
any screen shots for this ROM as of yet?

Touchwiz Apps on AOSP

I know there have been a few people who have asked this question before, but now that we have a few JB builds for TW, is there any chance we might be seeing some ports of TW apps available for AOSP Roms anytime soon?
What does jb touchwiz have to do with it working on AOSP?
Touchwiz apps are dependent on touchwiz itself so you can't
Devs can try but will take alot of coding making it nearly impossible AOSP

Well originally one of the reasons I heard was because AOSP was all JB builds, and the only TW roms we had were ICS.
I guess this is why I'm not much of a dev, but shouldn't it be as simple as pulling the pictures, strings, etc from framework-res and injecting them directly into the TW apks? Or is there a lot more to it than just that? If it's a matter of being tedious work, if someone could at least point me in the right direction then I'd be glad to give it a go, but if it's because most of the dependencies are scripts/etc that will require major edits in the code, then I guess I see where the problem is and I'll just let this thread die.

I'm pretty sure its way more than just pulling the correct files and it has nothing to do with which version of android we are on or were on it is just that the apps are too tightly interwoven into TW that they cannot work without that specific framework. There was a thread not too long ago on Rootz that it was being discussed in, specifically someone wanted the camera ported to AOSP. It has been done before but the dev who did it had to take a lot of touchwiz framework, which required a lot of code hacks to make work, and inject it into a ROM in order for it to work. I think it was done on the Vibrant but I can't remember for sure, if you wanted to read it just click on the Galaxy S3 forum and instead of going to Verizon Development just read the posts below the sub-forums. Really it would be way way easier to just add the features you wanted, kinda like CM did with all their mods like the pop-up texting. For instance if you wanted all the effects of the TW camera you could just figure out how to add them to the AOSP camera and create a flashable mod that will add them. Its kind of like the Atrix circle widgets that will only work if you are running the Atrix launcher because its dependant on the launchers blur framework, although our TW apps aren't that simple cause if they were we would all be running the TW launcher and using the TW camera on AOSP. God that would be nice....
I am no dev though so I may be wrong on some of that, but that's what I've been able to glean from the posts I've seen thus far. I am in the middle of trying to lean java and c/c++ to work on porting a PC game to android so whenever I've learned enough to tweak with this I am going to try my hand at adding some of the TW camera features to AOSP by breaking the TW cam apart and then figuring out how to code the features everyone wants from scratch on AOSP framework. I don't know how long its going to take me to learn enough since I have no one to help me learn this but if you have any ideas on where to start trying to bring them over to AOSP I am all ears cause I have no earthly clue aside from coding from scratch.

You sure you don't have it backwards op? Now the jb aokp messaging app works on jb touchwiz roms along with the camera.

Dang. You seem to know more than I do, so I'll just trust you then. That's not a bad idea trying to take the AOSP apps and adding the features, I'll look into that and see if perhaps I can just make a clone or something.

@primemonitor saw your review in the dev section. May i ask how is the rom performance-wise when using ram-intensive apps/games? I'm on rohan's cm12.1 and really tempted to flash this rom since it's aosp-based (honestly prefer aosp tbh, and really miss RRO layers supprt on XL) but a bit hesitant since it's a long process for me as i have a lot of apps and a seriously stupid intenrnet connection. TIA. ?
PS: also, why does it say here that the rom is 5.0.2? I thought it's 5.1 as per dev thread?

Sorry, I don't have any heavy games or apps installed right now I'll try NFS, but probably later, 'cuz I'm on a slow internet connection right now. However, I did check multitasking performance, and everything was running smoothly. Only time I felt some lag was when I was browsing on the internet (with many apps running in background) though I think it might have been a Chrome issue because Firefox was still pretty snappy.
Yeah, I prefer aosp roms too, which is why I shifted to this one from cm12.1. Haven't yet tried Rohan's cm build though (I'm pretty satisfied with this one for the time being), how was your experience with it?
Also, yay for RRO! Haven't yet seen it action, would love to try it out, see how it stacks against theme engine

Cm12.1 by rohan's great. I'm actually torn between his and varun's (both are my rom choices right now). I'm able to multitask decently and run heavy games (dh5 is what i'm playing right now). Did get a bsod twice a few hours after a clean flash, but i haven't experienced any since. And thanks for the reply. I'll be flashing this later today. ?
RRO is sweet. I just find it a bit more complicated to set up than cm's theme engine, but it was during its early days that i've tried it.
What is RRO?

What is this RRO you are talking about? By the way, how is the call quality? Is there echoing or down right bad voice quality through microphone of any sort?

So i flashed this rom around 8am today (it's almost 10pm here now), and i have to say i'm pleasantly surprised. I've never tried any Euphoria rom (cm or slim is usually what i run), but this rom is smooth. Handles reasonable multitasking well, no bsod or random crash of system/apps. Haven't tried calling nor heavy apps yet (no one has called me yet ?).
Only one very minor bug i've found: in settings, changing the nav buttons' dimensions doesn't work. I'm not sure if a logcat can catch that so i posted it here instead of the dev thread. If the dev wants me to get a log, please let me know, i'll be happy to (if something other than a logcat is needed, i may ask for instructions - i'm a veteran noob ?).
Really happy with this rom. Will update if any other bugs are found. great work. ?
Edit:
Thank you for including cm theme engine while we have no RRO support. ?
Rohan....can dolby digital sound mode work on Euphoria ?
if yes...then which...cm 12.1 or RR port...

My review of Euphoria 5.1
I don't compare hard work of devs!
Look and feel is the best I have experienced on my phone.Really love AOSP pure Vanila android Style. Renewed material design is a good thing! Very satified with it
Performace with stock kernel without any changes is pretty decent, but running heavy games, big multitasking lags a bit( No surprises here looking at phone specs)
Booting is pretty fast. Added features really make sense( navbar dimension change doesn't work through)
Some cons: I really wanted to avoid BSODs but with no luck unsure emoticon Today while charging I got this error.
Overral the UI is pretty fast & stable. Good work, Rohan and keep up developing and updating roms
Go to Application Drawer and Click on Doucuments and if you want to Show sd card than click menu key on top right corner>show sd card

5 days and no bsod (on tz 4.15 kernel). Not even once. I have to say, i love this rom and it's my daily driver now. No issues apart from nav bar dimensions (it'd be nice to have it working, but i'm totally fine without it).
You've outdone yourself, rohan. Great work.
This rom is smoothest of all the lollipop roms i have tried
and no BSOD's yet
using Tz 4.15
just wanted to know how to get rid of that visualizations which shows on the lockscreen over the album art while playing music
